It has 106 patterns that are life size (no trips to the copy store). I found t
I've mentioned Gary Chapman's books on love languages a few times on this blog, and I've mentioned them even more often to friends and family members. The Five Love Languages was very helpful for us in the early years of our marriage and The Five Love Languages of Children has been a welcome resource on this parenting adventure.

Win a Free Copy of KPMG's Tax Planning For You and Your Family 2008! Just arrived in sunny Vancouver today for two weeks of visiting with my parents and with my BC clients, so I needed a quick post to whip up! As luck would have it, someone sent me an extra copy of KPMG's Tax Planning For You and Your Family 2008, so I thought I would give it away through a contest on the blog. Every year I keep the updated copy with me almost at all times (home or work), and to be honest, I do even read it at night for fun on occasion. The book is not daunting at all, it's actually set up mostly in a point-form format with very quick and succinct information that is surprisingly easy to read. Anyone who has an interest in personal finance should consider buying a copy. I think most people would

GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED!Our family is big on laughs. We have silly little traditions that we follow through with each and every Christmas. Like my mother's marathon Christmas Eve breakfast (you either laugh or cry at having to be up so early), singing for our presents (we can't open them until we all do), and reading this particular book before the mad opening of presents begins.Cajun Night Before Christmas is just a terribly funny spin on Twas The Night Before Christmas, only Cajun style. Someone gave the book to my aunt one year, so we break it out every Christmas Eve when we gather at her home for our celebration. Let's face it, ya'll. The holidays can be enough to send anyone screaming into the night. Let's not go there this year. Let us be merry! And bright!I know this book would bring a smile to your face and a laugh to your lips. And I want that for you this holiday season! So..I'm giving away a brand new copy of Cajun Night Before Christmas to one of you lucky re
I never really stopped to realize just how much I complain in a single day until I was reading a book review in Oprah magazine about A Complaint Free World by Will Bowen. Bowen has a plan for ridding the world of uneccessary complaining, one complainer at a time. It's a pretty big task, but Bowen feels confident that starting small will produce a bigger, positive effect. He's already seeing results. And let's face it, people who complain ALL the time end up becoming toxic to those around them. Not a very flattering way to be known among your friends, co-workers, and family. Also, did you ever stop to think what complaining is costing you professionally, emotionally, AND physically?I complain. A LOT. I complain about things that really should be looked at from a blessing standpoint rather than one of complaint. My child gives me daily fits. But praise the Lord he is healthy and strong. My husband's work takes him away from home often. But Praise the Lord he is employed. I

Last week I introduced my Pay It Forward book exchange idea and it seems to be well received. So, I'm launching this idea with a free book giveaway!Let me just recap the Pay It Forward Book Exchange concept for those who might have missed it.Most all of us love to read and get “new-to-us” books, right? And if you’re anything like me, you love winning things (what a rush), not to mention getting fun stuff in the mail! So here’s what I'm proposing:1) Once a month I'll pick a book to give away to one lucky reader (you don’t have to have a blog to enter). It may be a book that I’ve purchased new or used, or it may be a book that someone has shared with me that I really like. It’ll probably be a paperback, just to make things easier, but no guarantees.2) Details on how you can enter to win will be listed below.3) If you’re the lucky winner of the book giveaway I ask that you, in turn, host a drawing to give that book away for free to one of your readers, after you’ve ha

I just read an excellent book that a friend from work gave to me and I want to pay it forward by sending this book to one of my faithful readers. The book I'm speaking of is The Memory Keeper's Daughter by Kim Edwards. This stunning novel begins on a winter night in 1964, when a blizzard forces Dr. David Henry to deliver his own twins. His son, born first, is perfectly healthy, but the doctor immediately recognizes that his daughter has Down syndrome. For motives he tells himself are good, he makes a split-second decision that will haunt all their lives forever. He asks his nurse, Caroline, to take the baby away to an institution. Instead, she disappears into another city to raise the child as her own. Compulsively readable and deeply moving, The Memory Keeper's Daughter is a brilliantly crafted story of parallel lives, familial secrets, and the redemptive power of love.If you'd like this gently used book sent to you, here is what you must do:1. On your blog, write a post about this
Hey, did you realize that Joyful Days is giving away 5 Christian fiction books from Glass Road Publishing?! I just figured this out.The first of 5 books is titled Gone with the Groom.Hope over to check out the details if you're interested in winning. :) Be sure to tell her I sent you. :)
Anne, with Author's On the Web, sent me another book for review. This book, Unbroken, is by Tracey Elliott, Mrs. Texas 2006.Unbroken shares details of Tracey Elliot's troubled childhood. Orphaned at the age of 6, she was sent to live with her grandmother and her grown, unemployed alcoholic uncles. The story tells of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her uncles, and her spiral into alcohol, drugs, and eventually stripping.Without sharing all the details, the book tells of how her life was put back together by the power and redemption of God and the love of her husband and children. It also shares interesting details of her month spent in rehab before she went on to win the title of Mrs. Texas in 2006.To be honest, I though this book was "okay." It wasn't bad, but it wasn't phenomenal either (you know, the kind of book you just can't put down). Perhaps I feel this way because I couldn't relate to much of what Tracey had experienced. I just couldn't empathize enough. Perhaps y
