I attended book club last Saturday and I immediately thought of how much you guys would LOVE to see it!We read 'The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette' and Katrina out did herself! The food was delicious and the decor was so incredibly beautiful! I was amazed at all the details and love she put into the afternoon. There was silver tulle and vibrant flowers everywhere!Even on the chandelier, there were fresh roses and pink tulle. Breath taking! She brought out her china and tons of tea lights for the special occasion. Those napkin rings are to die for. Here's a peek at Katrina's mirrored buffet - so elegant.Did I mention how yummy the food was? Scrumptious. Be sure to go to Katrina's blog. She has more details on decorating and the food. It was such a beautiful afternoon. I can't thank Katrina e
I don't think I'm the target audience for this show, but hopefully it will be for some of you out there. The Globe reported this weekend that:"Open Book Club," a new monthly TV show hosted by actress Christy Scott Cashman and Debbie DiMasi, wife of the Massachusetts House speaker, debuts next weekend. Filming at Cashman's Back Bay home, the show premieres on NECN at 7:30 p.m. on May 4 and airs on the first Sunday of each month. The first episode includes Tom Perrotta, Sue Miller, and Andre Dubus III. Next month Cashman heads to the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of Abel Ferrara 's new film, "Chelsea on the Rocks," in which Cashman is featured alongside the pic's stars Ethan Hawke, Dennis Hopper, and Bijou Phillips.Part of the lack of appeal for me is that I have no idea who

This guy is new to me but I have to admit that I like his idea of a "blurbing book club" and, since he made me smile a couple of times, I wanted to pass on his idea. After all, writing a "blurb" has to be easier than writing a 500-word review, so maybe this is something we can all use from time to time. Enjoy the temptation, anyway.
From the looks of things, the "vlogbrothers" have been

MENTAL STATUS: "Distracted". Lower back problems still a minor problem, but I did some exercising that helped a bit.Well, since I remained on my back most of this weekend, I was able to do a quite a bit of reading. Which reminded me that I forgot to mention that on one of my critique forums, we're doing out own kind of online "book club".Each of us members have a certain genre "specialty". So we thought it'd be kind of neat to expose one another to--or share-- what we each generally like to read. You know, get out of our comfort zone and try something new. What's on the agenda for the next few months? I'll tell you:November is DRIVEN by Eve Kenin , WIRED by Liz Maverick or MOONGAZER by Marianne Mancusi (it didn't matter what we chose, since the book club leader planned to read all three) I chose DRIVEN. All are supposed to be fairly dark SF with romantic elements and strong female protagonists.December is CATCH OF THE DAY by Kristan Higgins. A romantic comedy.(My choice. Suprise su
The ladies of my neighborhood book club met last night. We discussed “Sugar Street,” the final volume of Naguib Mahfouz’s Cairo Trilogy, a history of El- Sayed Ahmed Abdel-Gawwad and his family. Against a backdrop of social and political detail, the work spans three generations, and shows the intimate relationships between family members. I found the account of the search for faith of youngest son, Kamal, very touching.Throughout all three volumes, the patriarch’s power erodes. Mahfouz records with a critical eye the passage of time: he follows the family through the 1919 Revolution, the era of Saad Zaglul, the British occupation, and the reign of Fouad. The author has written elsewhere that "The cruelty of memory manifests itself in remembering what is dispelled in forgetfulness." Click the title for an interview with Naguib Mahfouz by writer and journalist Mohamed Salmawy.
Thanks to the interest expressed in the last post, I whipped up this little baby tonight to get us reading. Come on over and join the book club (you'll need to register an account to participate in discussions). We'll start the first discussion in September. The Hollywood Flakes Book Club

Today through mid-week next week is looking insane for me, so I need to warn you now that you may have a drought of bowel movement posts, posts about how my hair looks that day, and/or posts that only I think are funny. I apologize in advance; I hope you will forgive me. (Or not, but keep reading regardless. You can read mad. I don’t care.)
Lemme tell you why yesterday was THE BEST DAY EVER:
I was hosting Book Club last night, and had other errands to run, so I took off early to clean the house. Unbeknownst to me, my hubby had beat me to it. When I arrived home, the house was SPOTLESS. I mean, even I was impressed. So I literally could kick back and watch The People’s Court for an hour.
(Of course, I couldn’t do that. I tried, but instead, I buzzed around the house finding ANYTHING to do.)
The Boy came over for a visit, sporting his new XCalibur t-shirt from his trip to Vegas. The one thing he thought was most awesome? They served chocolate
For those paying attention, you'll see a new item in the sidebar: "The Blah Blah Book Club." And, while Amazon might pay me money if you click over and buy something, that is not really its primary purpose. It is intended to keep everyone in the loop as I struggle to finish reading the entire list of the Modern Library's 100 best novels of the 20th Century. It's also to remind me to finish, since I've now missed my original deadline by about 8 months. I've only finished 30 of the books; I've started more than that but have lost interest. I get too distracted with new books and non-reading activities. So, if you want to join me in the reading, go ahead. Maybe I'll post blog items so that we can talk about the books. If I ever get back to reading them . . .
First of all, I am aware of the fact that book was built for over-coverage. This is because a highly disproportionate number of journalists and bloggers are 30-something indie-mindset fathers of small children. In other words, we are alternadads. M...
