Thirteen years for evil bonfire killer, aged 13
A 13-YEAR-OLD who savagely beat a "helpless" man to death for no reason before throwing his body on a bonfire had enjoyed a trip with social services to Alton Towers just three days before the fatal attack. The remains of Stephen Croft's badly-charred body was found in the embers of a public bonfire in the early hours of November 6 last year. Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Henry Globe QC, yesterday told the schoolboy he will be locked up for a minimum of 13 years. ~ more... ~

Boy Kills Man And Then Throws Him On A Bonfire
A 13-year-old boy was jailed yesterday for an indefinite period after battering a vulnerable young man to death and then throwing the body onto a bonfire on the 6th November 2007. Jamie Smith was said to be high on Cider and Vodka when he murdered Stephen Croft, 34-years-old, in the early hours after Guy Fawkes’ night. Smith [...]

Bonfire! “O Rookieo, Rookieo, Wherefore Art Thou, Rookieo?”
Nascar and Shakespeare? One talks in circles and the other rides around in circles. I’ll leave it up to you to decide who does what. Or is it whom does what? Once again, I’ll let you do the deciphering. I just write the stuff. Doesn’t mean that the words I put [...]

Bonfire! These Are The Good Ol’ Days Of NASCAR
Parity! They talked about it during the broadcast on Sunday. I believe its true and I like it. Though Nascar gets their share of criticism and I will admit, I’ve expressed my displeasure in one form or another. But I will also give credit where credit is due.

      Bonfire! Sick As A Dog
Cautions! What happened to them at Bristol? Though it was somewhat exciting with a few laps to go with Tony getting dumped by something other than Goodyear. The rest of the race was ho-hum without anything earth shocking. Might have had something to do with the toughness of the COT. There were [...]

      Bonfire! Attention, Please!
A baby needs a bottle (I mean Kyle Busch needs a bottle), NA$CAR needs more money, the Packers need a quarterback, a racetrack needs a fan (yep, that’s you, Atlanta), Tony needs a good tire, and Craig needs attention. That almost sounds like a country song, doesn’t it? Since I am not musically inclined [...]

Firewalk with me: Drunk burns feet in bonfire promenade
Firewalking is a technique that has been popular for centuries, ever since some fakir with a cart full of placebos to unload first gathered yokels around a coal pit and took the fiery walk in the hopes that they would believe he escaped burned feet because he was wearing the deity’s own socks and that the stinking concoctions he was doling out actually had some medicinal value.Motivational speaker Tony Robbins was able to use firewalking to much the same effect – in his case unloading tapes and books featuring innumerable hours of him giving you advice that could be boiled down to the Fred Flintstone soundbite “Think big, be big Barney.” It should be noted that Robbins was not suggesting the intervention of a deity, but rather that spending a whole wad of cash to listen to him go o

Botticelli: From the Birth of Venus to a Bonfire of the Vanities
Most of the Western world is familiar with the image of Venus rising from the sea on a clamshell in the famous Italian Renaissance painting by Sandro Botticelli. With its lyrical, graceful beauty, the work we know so well is properly named The Birth of Venus and sometimes affectionately known in contemporary culture as “Venus on the Half Shell”, Botticelli’s work continues to inspire contemporary art, literature, and film. Botticelli’s mythological painting and its sister painting, Primavera, were commissioned by Lorenzo de’ Medici for his villa in Castello in 1485. More probable though is that the paintings were commissioned by Lorenzo for his teenaged sons, Piero and Giovanni. After the death of his father, Lorenzo de’ Medici with his brother Giuliano assumed power in Florence in 1469 at the age of twenty. Giuliano died in 1478, but Lorenzo went on to become known to posterity as ‘Il Magnifico’ or ‘The Magnificent’ during th

      Queens Park bonfire
Always one to be different, I thought we'd have a snap of the Queens Park bonfire before it goes up in smoke. Not sure about stewards looking after the pile of timber ahead of lighting, you wouldn't want to tackle these fellas, would you?As for this evening, yours truly is working nights - so no snapping for me. So if you take any good photos of bonfires, fireworks (other details on THIS post), fairground stuff or friends and family enjoying the entertainment around the borough then please email them to Crewe blog. Enjoy tonight and be safe...

      Bonfire Scum
Had the following call about 1 hour ago from an "Intelligent Fucking Customer". This is real. "[Dr Hamhock,] sorry but it's really to do with the state of our country at the moment. Could you arrange for your final skip to be collected as soon as possible. The skip you were using outside my store, some little scummers pulled all the wood and stuff out of it last night and proceeded to make a big bonfire up against the wall of our shop. The old man [the shop owner's Father] luckily managed to take some photos of the them in the act....BUT...... read more

      bonfire tasting finale
Life is busy. Yesterday I was so low I was going to quit blogging and my business. Today I have phone calls to make and orders to place. Starting something like this is not as easy as I thought. In the mean time, Ryan has Bonfire Vineyards. Our tasting was a huge success and I want to thank everyone who attended on Sunday. We sincerely appreciate your support and feedback on the wine. Always the first to arrive and always the last to go. We are in the debt of Farley, Bryon, Ben and Lisa who never fail to lend a hand and see us through to the bitter end. (Case in point, the night before our wedding I was happily going home, alone, to get a glorious nights sleep before the big day. Well, not if Smooth, CrispySoft, Bec, Tomoko, Shige and the Cherba brothers had anything to say about it. I was up till 2am surrounded by dozing friends who didn't want me to be alone or nervous without them.) Best friends, like Smooth and CrispySoft, usually show up for our parties while we are still

Pour in the egg, beer and melted butter; stir with a whisk just until blended - a few lumps are okay. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Coat with vegetable oil or cooking spray. Did they have marshmallows at the bonfire?
I spent Christmas in Zimbabwe. My birth-place and happy home for over 30 years. I was lucky enough to play a great deal of cricket here and give something back as an administrator and fund-raiser. Cricket was fun – great good fun for players and spectators alike. A lot of effort was made by the top players, and this showed in the way that they seemed able to punch above their weight in international cricketing circles. I am positive that the fun and passion they had for the game helped compliment the hard work they put in. I won’t even mention the financial side of it and the creative employment that cricket lovers and entrepreneurs provided to keep great players playing at home. Effort, passion and pride all round. And what of it all now? Corruption, threats and intimidation, arson and

All Hallows' Eve Bonfire Bash 2: The Wrap-up
It happened again. Just like last time a thirsty hoard of ghouls, goblins, and (scarier) celebrity impersonators descended upon our house in suburban Minnesota to feast and drink on ... well food and beer, mostly. It was a great time, this past Friday night, with a bonfire and fire "juggling" and even bobbing for apples of all things. I am a bit disappointed that we only had 1 person crash at our place, though. That represents a 300% decrease over last year. But mine was not the only house to be haunted that night. Take a look at some great photos on flickr tagged with "Halloween Party" I like the shots from the Industrial Light and Magic party (and while some of these are great costumes why did I still expect more). Some favorites: A giant digital camera that actually worked, Katamari Damacy, Borat, and the whole Monty Python crew of knights (complete with giant Trojan rabbit). Marie Antoinette was looking good too. Just look at that detail in the wig!

Wigan ready to piss on Manchester United bonfire
Thirteen years ago, Blackburn Rovers won the Premier League title, despite losing 2-1 to Liverpool on the last day of the season. This was because rivals Manchester United just simply couldn’t get over the finishing line at West Ham, drawing 1-1 and spurning several chances to land the spoils. Could history be about to repeat [...]
