What she meant was that black folks were one of their own worst enemies, they destroy their own progress and want more responsibility than they are ready to handle. She meant that as long as emotion had control over logic black folks would undoubtedly take 1 step forward and 2 back. Once they ruled the backwaters, poled along by one or two men, heavily loaded with rice, coconut and other commodities. But in the recent times, the kettuvalloms have been replaced by more and modern modes of transport, relegating them to neglect and decay. It takes great skill and meticulousness to construct these giant House boats by tying huge planks of jack wood together. Curiously enough, not a single nail is used in their making of a houseboat. There used to be an entire clan of artisans who were involved in kettuvallam construction. Click to enlarge images

      Rc Boats
For some reason, being able to control a miniature boat as it skims over the water of a local lake is something that many people find very appealing. It doesn't matter whether you are a kid or an adult; RC boats (Radio Controlled boats) are universally fun. On top of that, nothing is more fun than undergoing a huge and daunting project, and eventually seeing the results come through. Therefore you should consider building RC boats on your own, out of materials that you can buy from any local craft or hobby store. If you are here, you have likely already considered this prospect. It is more than possible, and probably easier than you would think. Since you have taken the more interesting route and decided to build your own RC boats rather than buy one pre-made, you will have quite a few mo

Boats and Safe Boating Tips, United Yacht
Boating is one of the favorite American summer pastimes. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 70 million people go boating each year. While boating is much safer than driving a car, there are still enough boating accidents to raise some alarm signals as to why boating accidents occur. 53% of fatal boating accident victims drowned, while 39% suffered trauma and 9% died of other causes. Most boating deaths result from falling out of a small yacht , without a PFD, whether it capsizes or not. Make sure that all boaters have on flotation devices. When boating be alert to sudden boat motion changes, wind shifts, light flashes and the beginning of choppy water. These sudden changes can all mean a storm is brewing. Always carry a radio with the local “Marine Band” on it. The Marine Band broadcasts storm warnings, which should alert you to head in to a dock until the storm blows over. For a few years my Dad and I have toyed with the idea of setting up some shelves for the kayaks in the back of the garage, on the outside wall. We would like to put the boats up onto shelves that have little rollers on them so that you can slide the boats in and out. I know that major manufacturing places have steel buildings, forklifts and all sorts of ways to store the boats. But we are looking for a much smaller scale in our own backyard. However if I ever hit the lottery I am going to get my own steel building and buy one of every kayak I can find, live on a lake and spend the rest of my time kayaking in each boat and writing detailed reviews of the ins and outs of each of those boats. But, if some company wanted me to review their boat I would certainly be up for getting on the water to demo and then review. For now our boats are on the second floor of the garage handing off hooks from the rafters. It is kind of a pain to get them down because you need two people. How do you store y

Cars don't capsize, if you stick to the roads (it can get tricky as both motorways and rivers are blue on maps, but you'll work it out). I didn't even know you could get boat insurance, but you can. Covermyboat.co.uk do boat, yacht or dinghy insurance, which includes insurance against fire. (Although I do tend to... [[ This is a content summary only. United Yacht Boats
United Yacht A boat in common parlance is a watercraft, generally smaller in size to most ships. A boat consists of structures called hulls and some system of propulsion, such as paddles, oars, a setting pole, a sail, paddle wheels and so forth. The somewhat horizontal but arched structure that spans the boat’s hull is known as the deck. Unlike a ship, where there are numerous decks, a boat conventionally has just has one. The cabin’s floor is called the sole. The base of the deck is known as the deck head. The vertical bulkheads divide the internal area. Some bulkheads are significant in the overall structure of the boat. The boat’s front side is known as the bow (or prow); the back of the boat is the stern. The starboard and the port are the right and the left sides of the boat, respectively. Today, the command area of a big boat is called – perhaps inappropriately – the bridge. The bridge, depending upon the design, can be the wheelhouse or the cockpit. (more

      United Yacht: Boats For Sale
Owning boats such as fishing boats, ski boats, or pontoon boats is the dream of many people. However, the current market prices for these boats are considered to be very expensive. Many companies prefer to sell the used boats that have already been rented for quite sometime. They usually keep a large stock of these boats and they are almost always readily available for sale. Some of the companies offer new rental boats for sale. These boats are sold at the end of each season well below the dealer’ price. This sometimes ensures that the customer gets a brand new current year model for a considerably less than the market price. This can be a particularly good option in the event the customer prefers a luxury model. The website http://www.unitedyacht.com/yachts.php?new=1 provides a list of a variety of rental boats put up for sale. This list provides all the details relating to them such as company, boat, style, and retail price in 2007, as well as the demo day price. (more&helli

United Yacht: Types of Yacht Charter Boats
When looking for a different spin on the family reunion or the perfect way to entertain co-workers on a business outing, yacht charters are a great way to plan a unique getaway. While the act of renting a yacht is often reserved for personal rendezvous’ and family adventures, there are plenty of advantages to planning a corporate event through this relaxing method, such as creating strong ties with clients or strengthening employer-employee relationships. Yacht chartering involves the renting or chartering of a motor yacht or sailboat with the purpose of traveling about coastal or other island locations. Over the years, the act has become an increasingly popular method of seeing the world while enjoying a nice journey spread across calming water. Two Different Kinds of Charter When chartering a yacht, you should know there are two main types to consider – bareboat and crewed. Distant Boats Off the Belle Isle. (seascapes 4)It is such a beautiful day, the beach is empty, the kids are all back at school now and summer has put in a late appearance. The sky towers above, perfect blue going on forever. It is on days such as these that the worries and woes of the world are lost in the enormous beauty of that blue space. We are but grains of sand, very happy, very relaxed grains of sand…smile into the blue and listen to the waves and wish that we can kiss it all better because it is surely worth it.25.5cm x 20.5cm. 10in x 8in.Oil. Boats
I've always had problems drawing boats, so when I was down on the South Coast recently I took the chance to spend some time sketching at Lymington. This is a great place to find boats; there are almost too many to choose from, from large fishing boats to tiny dinghies. It's one of the most popular sailing centres in the country, located on the sheltered western Solent. I've sailed there a lot in the past, but don't currently have a boat. These are all very simple boats, though some of them are done from quite tricky (or me!) angles. All done with a Rotring art pen.boats pen+and+ink Rotring+Art+Pen sketches Lymington

      Duct Tape Boats
I'm posting a second photograph today because what we did last night was so darn fun: a duct tape boat race. I think I've mentioned that I work with our church youth group, specifically the girls, and Tuesday night we challenged the boys to a race in boats made only of duct tape and cardboard.Pictured is the H.M.S. Clark, mysteriously christened as a British boat and better built than a Yugo, right down to its duct tape oar locks. That's what happens when testosterone meets duct tape--a full catamaran?? The other two mens' boats: The Free Willy II and The Priest Craft which looked more like floating feeding troughs didn't fare as well once they were put to sea.And the girls? Well with our yar little sloop affectionately named The Lucky Banana we went for a minimalist, cubist approach and covered a very large box in 17 layers of duct tape--have you ever wondered what $60 dollars worth of duct tape looks like? We didn't win for speed (there's a reason we didn't name her The Q

Aldeborough, Suffolk coast. Watercolour/watercolor of fishing boats on the beach
"Early Evening" Aldeborough, Suffolk 9"x13". Watercolour/Watercolor. Alistair Butt © 2007.Aldeborough, on the Suffolk coast with a wonderful warm glow from an evening sun, casting lovely shadows from the boats etc. This painting has been produced from a combination of reference material. The evening light and foreground boat are from a detailed drawing done a few years ago and added to drawings and reference photos taken on a morning visit in July (see post). The shape of these wooden boats is wonderful but I also wanted to show the 'internal' elements, hence the view point and the combination of reference material. It was lovely to paint all the bits and bobs in the boat making sure that shapes, shadows etc looked correct. The rest of the painting was kept as simple as possible to balance the foreground boat and its detail.

      Angels Donate Boats to Charity
How many charities are there out there? Well, apparently quite a handfull. And according to them, they are all out for a good course, which is to raise funds for the needy. However, if you noticed, each and every of these charity campaigns, the "concept" is always "the same". They are always asking you to donate cash, food, unwanted clothes and/or stuff. So norm. Will anyone just come up with something out of the ordinary? Erm... Apparently, some "people" did. It's quite a kewl and somewhat fresh concept they (as in Boat Angel) have. They actually request for, don't be stunned, "Boat Donations"! Amusing isn't it? Okay, maybe not. Anyway, this is how it works... Continue reading...

Hastings, Sussex. Fishing boats landing morning catch...
"Landing" Hasting, Sussex12"x16". Oil on board. Alistair Butt © 2007It was a bright warm but still morning (it broke record temperatures later in the day) with the last of the fog burning off when I arrived at Hastings on the Sussex coast after a very long drive down from the Midlands. Thankfully I arrived in time to see the first pair of these lovely traditional wooden boats return from their fishing trip. The boats beach themselves and are then hauled up the shingle beach either by winch or the yellow caterpillar tracked tractors (seen in the background) while the crew place wooden planks or plastic tubes underneath for the boats to slide across. The fish is then unloaded and taken to the fish shops which are located to the left hand side of the picture. The under painting was completed in one sitting and then working both downwards and background to foreground the final detail was added.I wanted to retain the slight foggy feel so kept the distant cliffs simple and slowly increased c

Candy Review: IKEA Candy: Raspberry Boats and Daim
Due to a recent relocation of my place of residence I had the opportunity to go furniture shopping at IKEA. It had been a good amount of time since I’ve been there and I was thrilled to find candy waiting for me at their small food shop past the registers. There was lots of different things to choose from, but I decided finally on a package of red licorice Raspberry Boats and some Daim. Raspberry Boats: These candies are a very bright pink/red color that matches the package that they come in. I don’t quite understand why they’re called boats, since their shape doesn’t resemble boats at all. More like a strange polygons or deformed bananas. The “boats” have a smooth feel to them in your hand and their texture in the mouth is just perfect. Not too hard, not too soft. Although, flavor wise, I have been lied to. They do not taste of raspberry! The flavor instead is “strange plant/perfumey pink taste”, if that makes any sense. Yuck. Next ti

Oversized Fishing Boats & Liebherr Cranes
Saw this oversized fishing boat at Abang Dian's blog a few days back.© Hardian NaziefUpon closer inspection, I realized it was an enormous barge with 6(!) crawler cranes secured tightly on the deck. To view the actual photo, see the original post here. Hardian says that the cranes are used for tying offshore pipes but I still think their actual purpose is to fish for something really big ;)Anyway, I went to Liebherr's website to look for similar cranes. Why Liebherr? Because I remember seeing the name on some construction machinery - German names like Liebherr stand out from the usual Japanese suppliers of heavy construction machinery in SG like Hitachi and Sumitomo (now merged). Nothing fascinating in the crawler crane and tower crane categories at Liebherr (there's only so much variation for these two types of cranes) so I looked in the mobile crane category and saw this:© LiebherrLTM 1400-7.1 with a maximum lifting capacity of 400 tonnes and a maximum lifting height of

House boats or boat houses: New housing for the Dutch!
Whether you get the concept of global warming or not; believe it’s just tree hugging people going to extreme or believe it is real the Dutch see it as a serious concern and have been taking steps to ensure its country’s survival. Polar ice caps are melting and it is causing the sea to rise. It can be felt on the river Rhine and it can be felt along the Delta works as rising waves crash into the Dutch’s defenses to keep their feet dry. The Netherlands is known throughout the world as a low lying country, 70% of the land is either below or at sea level. They are also know for their ingenious ways of keeping back the sea with their dams, dikes and other defenses surrounding the coast and their knack for taking back land from the sea. According to the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, rainfall in the Netherlands could increase in the coming century by up to 25% and the sea level rise by more than three feet. White blogule to OH Se-hoon - swift boats across the Hangang
LEE Myung-bak may or may not become South Korea's next president. Like Sarkozy, he could be leading in the polls too clearly too early. Actually, the man who changed the face of the Capital city (Bus Rapid Transit system, restored Cheonggyecheon, Seoul Sup...) always seems in a hurry and doesn't like to waste time. For a start, he never took the time to change his own face. Plus he was twice convicted for starting an election campaign too early. But swiftness is certainly not a handicap in Korea. After all, LEE's predecessor did become Korea's head of state in a hurry : GOH Gun assumed ROH Moo-hyun's interim during his short 2004 impeachment transition.Still, LEE's successor could very well become the "next-former-mayor-of-Seoul president". It's just that 2007 looks a little bit too early for OH Se-hoon, who isn't even of the "former" kind since he only took the mayoral charge last summer. At least, this good looking politician won't have to change his face to seduce the voters
