David Eckstein and Alex Rios each had two hits and two RBI as the Blue Jays outlasted the Orioles 9-8 at Rogers Centre. A.J. Burnett got the win, despite allowing seven runs on seven hits over five-and-a-third innings. B.J. Ryan allowed a run in the ninth, but held on for his 17th save. Gregg Zaun knocked in a run and scored twice in the victory. Adam Jones hit a three-run homer for the Orioles
Alex Rios came across with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Blue Jays pulled out a 7-6 victory over the Orioles at Rogers Centre. Rios, who also had a three-run triple, scored when Freddie Bynum let a ground ball off the bat of Scott Rolen go through his legs. It was the Jays' second victory in three games. B.J. Ryan pitched a scoreless ninth to get the win. Aubrey Huff h
A heck of a lot of things happened during the three days when I couldn't post. This is going to be long. Here goes:

On Thursday, the Pirates traded Jonah Bayliss to (who else?) the Blue Jays for a player to be named later. Bayliss had showed a little promise early last year, but since then he's been super-wild and absolutely worthless. It's pretty remarkable we got anything at all for him, e
Hopefully the interleague will treat us better at home.

I'm heading out of town for the whole weekend, so this is all you'll see until the series is over. Regardless of which day you're reading this, the Pirates definitely need wins to pick up some momentum to get over that nightmarish road trip. The Blue Jays are a beatable foe. In fact, they were just swept by the Brewers.

If anything else, the Toronto Blue Jays are getting lots of innings from their starting rotation as of late - Roy Halladay and Jesse Litsch especially. Along with the innings eaten up by the aforementioned pitchers, good results followed them. Litsch on Saturday pitched a complete game, allowing only 7 hits, as Toronto shut out the Kansas City Royals 6-0 at Rogers Centre. Toronto was led by Aaron
Lyle Overbay hit a go-ahead solo homer in the sixth inning to back six innings of three-run ball from A.J. Burnett as the Blue Jays edged the Angels 4-3 at Rogers Centre. Burnett scattered six hits and struck out six to improve to 5-and-4 on the season. B.J. Ryan closed it out with a perfect ninth for his 10th save. Toronto blew an early 3-0 lead before salvaging the finale of the three-game se
Vladimir Guerrero hit a solo homer in the first inning and a three-run shot in the third as the Angels edged the Blue Jays 4-3 in the middle test of a three-game set at Rogers Centre. Jon Garland got the win for the Angels, who won their third straight game despite managing only four hits. Garland yielded three runs on eight hits over six innings to improve to 5-and-3 with the win. Francisco Ro
Eric Hinske's solo homer in the top of the sixth proved to be the difference as the Rays edged the Blue Jays 5-4 in the first-of-three at Rogers Centre. Akinori Iwamura had a double and two RBI as Tampa Bay improved to 17-and-15 on the year. Andy Sonnanstine upped his mark to 5-and-1 with the win and Troy Percival pitched a perfect ninth for his seventh save. Lyle Overbay went 2-for-2 with two RBI for Toronto, which had won five in-a-row. A.J. Burnett struck out 10 but allowed all five runs in six innings to fall to 3-and-3.
Another one run game, another bottom of the ninth win only last night it was Jason Varitek. The Red Sox captain came to the plater with the winning run on second, in the form of Manny Ramirez, and hit a base hit up the middle. Vernon Wells handled this ball a million times [...]
Deja Vu. Sox got the win tonight on ANOTHER walk off RBI single, this time coming by way of Jason Varitek. David Ortiz also chipped in earlier in the game with a solo home run. 2-1, Sox win. As always the full game recap tomorrow morning.

The Blue Jays released slumping slugger Frank Thomas over the weekend. Here is a snippet from The Star:
The veteran star, who was mired in an early season slump, will be paid the full remainder of what he’s owed on his $8 million (U.S.) 2008 salary. He is now free to sign with another team. Rumoured [...]
The Toronto Blue Jays typically have a decent offense; however on Tuesday, they went from a decent offense to an explosive one as they manufactured 16 hits, enabling Toronto to embarrass the Baltimore Orioles, 11-3, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Toronto's attack was led by David Eckstein as he went 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base while Aaron Hill went 2-for-3 with a home run, a run scored and 3 RBIs; Alex Rios, Vernon Wells and Marco Scutaro also added 2 hits each - with Scutaro adding a double. Winning pitcher Shaun Marcum (2-0) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing 4 hits, 2 earned runs, walking 3 while striking out 4.Baltimore was led by Nick Markakis as he went 2-for-4 with a HR, a run scored and an RBI while Luke Scott added 2 hits; Adam Jones and Melvin Mora added a
The typical baseball game lasts about as long as The Godfather parts I and II, with long periods of inactivity punctuated by short bursts to the bathrooms to piss out all the suds used to down all the peanuts in the gallery. In these cheap seats, especially during a "pitcher's duel" (baseball parlance for when even less than the nothing that usually happens, happens) the combination of heat stroke and freely flowing beer results in normally staid Toronto fans turning into warring savages in the upper deck. Before the Jays moved into their cozy, retractable domed-roof confines, they occupied an outdoor stadium situated right by the lake, and on a typical opening day the "Boys of Summer" would be fielding ground balls in a snowdrift. During these lean years, it was nearly impossible to bear t
The Toronto Blue Jays would like everyone to know that the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees aren’t the only AL East teams with playoff aspirations. In defeating the Red Sox 7-4 on Sunday, they completed an opening season sweep of the defending World Champions. Dating back to last September, the Jays have taken seven straight from the Red Sox. For some reason, they just seem to have the Red Sox’ number. Well, everyone except for Roy Halladay, who even in a winning effort was touched up for four runs, three of them via the home run. Halladay, who is one of the most dominant pitchers in the American League, seems to have the same problem against the Red Sox that the Sox have against the rest of the Blue Jays’ staff. But is it time to anoint the Blue Jays as a serious co
...Reed Johnson was released today from The Toronto Blue Jays. You may remember the name being mentioned by writers as being available after Moises Alou went down.Johnson, 31, was a 17th-round selection by Toronto in the 1999 First-Year Player Draft, and he spent parts of the past five seasons with the big league club. In his career with the Jays, Johnson hit .281 with a .342 on-base percentage over 610 games, serving as a left fielder and leadoff man. The highlight of Johnson's tenure with Toronto came in 2006, when he led the team with a .319 average and ranked first among American League leadoff men with a .390 on-base percentage. Last season, though, Johnson suffered a back injury in April and missed roughly three months after undergoing surgery to repair a herniated disc. He was quot

Not much has gone right for the Orioles in the past month; however, they were able to get a series win in Toronto. At this point of the season, the young guys are trying to make a name for themselves, and on Sunday, one won the game for the team. On Sunday, Baltimore beat the Blue Jays, 8-6, in the 12th inning thanks to single by Scott Moore. Alas, the bullpen came up strong on Sunday, as the relief core kept the Orioles in the game and delivered perhaps one of their best performances of the past few months. On top of the win, Nick Markakis, who is having a solid year, passed a couple of milestones. First, he hit his 20th home run and second, he drove in his 100th RBI, both tops on the team. The Orioles take on the New York Yankees in the Bronx this week for a tough three game series. *** The Baltimore Sun has a recap of the game, as does the Baltimore Examiner, Oriole Magic and the Orioles MLB site. Roch Kubatko has his thoughts on yesterday’s game. Well, Orioles f
Last night, the Baltimore Orioles had another hard luck loss, this time at the hands of a pitcher throwing in his first major league game. The starting pitcher for the Blue Jays, Jesse Litsch (who was in Double A) before last night, was able to pitch into the ninth inning in his major league debut and win. The Blue Jays won 2-1 last night. Thanks to solid defense, crafty pitching and groundball outs, Litsch looked masterful last night. He allowed only four hits, all singles, and walked three as well as struck out one. The Oriole offense was anemic once again, as the scoring took place in the first inning as Miguel Tejada drove in Brian Roberts in the very first inning when he grounded into a double play. Big Daniel Cabrera was the loser, although he probably had his best outing of the young season. He gave up a homer to Alex Rios on only his second pitch of the game and he gave up his only other run in the 6th innings as Troy Glaus drove in Alex Rios. Cabrera went the distanc
I am the Yard blogging tonight, and working on conjunction with Oriole Magic.Ok, tonight Adam Loewen takes on former Bird Josh Towers, who has had a decent start to this year after completely flat-lining in 2006.Go to Oriole Magic for more details.Images and game recap will be posted on the Oriole Post sometime later tonight or Sunday morning.
Blue Jays and Orioles - April 20thThe Baltimore Orioles pulled off an amazing win last night at Camden Yards, as they beat the Toronto Blue Jays, 5-4 last night thanks to a walk-off single by Nick Markakis. Daniel Cabrera started the game, and while he had problems with his command, he struck out seven and pitched into the seventh before being lifted for left handed reliever John Parrish. A.J. Burnett pitched well, but did not get the win, as the Blue Jays bullpen faltered. Melvin Mora hit a two run blast in the 4th inning, which tied the game at 2-2. The Blue Jays made the score 4-2 in the 7th inning, as Vernon Wells who came into the game as pinch-hitter, got a single off John Parrish that whisked past Melvin Mora and Miguel Tejada. The O’s comeback ensued in the 8th inning, as Kevin Millar hit a flicker in left that allowed Miguel Tejada to score and tied the game. Before that 4th run came in, the team got a third run as Aubrey Huff hit a sacrifice fly to score Nick
Every weekend when the Orioles are at home, I'll be blogging live from the game. If there's enough interest, I'll see if I can make some trips to the Yard during the week. The feedback to the game coverage has been great so far, so I'm hoping to expand that to a bigger audience. As well, I'll be working conjunction with Mike Boehm of Oriole Magic to bring you game coverage in both words and pictures. You can check both sites for latest updates from each game I cover. The internet is amazing, and with the technology at our disposal (and mine), the both of us will try to bring what you the fans want in terms of expanded coverage. In addition, I'll be at least one A's game and one Red Sox game next week.Go O's and check both our sites out for Orioles news and tidbits...
Tomo Okha has been chosen as the Toronto Blue Jays' fourth starter, and the competition for the fifth spot could go down to the last day. "I think that Ohka has earned the spot in the rotation and I'm not worried about that at this point," said GM J.P. Ricciardi, "Just keep him healthy now." The final spot will go to either Victor Zambrano, who had his second Tommy John surgery last May while with the Mets, or Josh Towers. Ricciardi said he didn't expect Zambrano would return so quickly. "It's almost like you're waiting for the other shoe to drop. This guy is defying a lot of odds. Medically I keep checking with the trainers and they say no complaints, he's bouncing back real well." Ohka, who hasn't pitched in the American League since 2001 with Boston, will pitch in a Triple-A game on Friday and is slated to go six or seven innings. Last season with Milwaukee, Ohka was 4-5 with a 4.82 ERA in 18 starts. Zambrano is scheduled to go at least five innings on Friday against Cleve
The only baseball team left in Canada, the Toronto Blue Jays, have longed for the days of the early 90's where they won back to back championships; however, with the emergence of the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox as beasts in the American League East, they found it hard to compete for the better part of ten years plus. The organization opened up the purse strings last winter signing a plethora of free agents; therefore, under the guidance of general manager J.P. Riccardi the end result was a second place finish in the American League East and remaining in the playoff hunt until after the All-Star break. Although the team was about 10 games short of winning the division and just as much from the Wild Card last season, the team made a lot of strides. The Blue Jays played well while mired in controversy with their manager, John Gibbons and run-ins with players. However, the team has given him the sign of approval and he'll guide the team into the upcoming season. While the team has
