Consult your physician before taking a potassium supplement as many medical conditions as well as some medications can already elevate your potassium levels."Blood pressure (BP) shows a continuous relationship with the risk of CVD. Why The Concern Over Blood Pressure?
Well, shake up a bottle of soda, unscrew the lid, and when you get through cleaning up the mess, let’s discuss the problem with high blood pressure. While you probably aren’t going to explode all over the kitchen if your blood pressure is high, it is no stretch of the imagination to understand that increased pressure can strain things a bit, quite a bit. There is no pre-determined blood pressure level where you will start to litereally be injured by the extra strain that hypertension puts on your body. If you are also dealing with other health issues such as obesity or diabetes, your body parts and systems are under attack and pressure from several directions at once. The more you pile on, the more likely that some system will fail. It’s interesting to note the number of people I’ve talked to who have been diagnosed with hypertension in combination with being overweight. The story is con

      Blood Pressure Highway
Normally a trip to the airport can be filled with many emotions. Joy of going on a well deserved holiday or sadness due to the death of a loved one that has recently passed. My trip however is not about the final destination, as that pales in comparison to the journey from the centre of the twilight zone in a beaten up Peugeot car, in a foreign land. I have been here for one day on business and my throat is coarse and painful due to either the pollution or the water I was drinking last night. My feelings for my throat disappear faster than the old car we are in accelerates into a sea of cars. Chaos, it appears is the order of the day here. Lines that mark the lanes on the road may as well not be there as cars, lorries, busses, motorcycles and even horse drawn carts become one seething mass of motion working its way along an uneven road. Horns are the only common thread that prevails out of this madness, from small timid peeps to full blown blaring lorry horns that vibrate through my a

Take a siesta to reduce your blood pressure
www.dailyindia.comA new study has found that expecting an afternoon nap could reduce blood pressure, consequently cutting down the risk of heart attacks.Researchers at the Liverpool John Moores University in Liverpool, U.K., have discovered that the time just before one falls asleep in the afternoon is the most beneficial in reducing blood pressure and lessening the risk of cardiovascular diseases.Afternoon naps, or siestas are typically short naps or rest periods of no more than an hour that are taken in the afternoon. While earlier studies on siestas have found that this practice may slightly increase the risk of heart attack, the new study has shown an inverse relationship between siesta taking and fatal heart attacks. According to the researchers, change in blood pressure is the key factor linking afternoon naps to cardiovascular function. Some researchers hypothesize that the lower blood pressure reduces strain on the heart and decreases the risk of a fatal heart attack. The current

Weight Loss Can Normalize Blood Pressure
www.medpagetoday.comBy Charles BankheadAt least half of overweight patients with stage I hypertension can normalize their blood pressure with modest weight loss, Italian investigators reported here. After six months on a reduced-calorie diet, supplemented by a lipase inhibitor in some cases, about half of 210 patients lost more than 5% of their body weight, which was associated with about a 5% reduction in blood pressure, Roberto Fogari, M.D., of the University of Pavia, reported at a conference of the American Heart Association's Council for High Blood Pressure Research. The results demonstrated not only that weight loss alone can normalize hypertension but also that many overweight hypertensive patients have been misdiagnosed as having essential hypertension. The results emphasize the importance of initiating dietary intervention in overweight patients with high blood pressure before resorting to drug treatment, said Dr. Fogari. "This is important because it means that in these pat

Even Low Levels Of Weekly Exercise Drive Down Blood Pressure
Even low levels of weekly exercise drive down blood pressure and boost overall fitness, suggests a small study in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. To stave off ill health, adults are currently recommended to indulge in 30 minutes of moderately strenuous exercise on at least five days of the week. But few people meet these recommendations, with lack of time cited as the most common reason for failing to do so. The study authors invited 106 healthy but sedentary civil servants between the ages of 40 and 60 to take part in an exercise programme for 12 weeks. Some 44 people were randomly assigned to 30 minutes of brisk walking on five days of the week. A further 42 were given the same programme, but for three days of the week. And the remainder were not asked to change their current lifestyle. Pedometers were used to help participants monitor their walking and every participant recorded how long they walked for. Four Ways to Lower Your Blood Pressure Without Drugs
Up to 90 percent of high blood pressure cases are thought to be caused by lifestyle habits that constrict blood vessels. When your blood vessels are constricted tightly, your heart must work much harder to keep your blood flowing, hence the higher blood pressure.Increasing a compound in your blood known as nitric monoxide can help to open constricted blood vessels and lower your blood pressure. Four ways to increase nitric monoxide in your blood are:Aerobic exerciseTaking a warm bathBreathing in and out through one nostril (by closing the other nostril and your mouth)Eating bitter melon, which is rich in amino acids and vitamin CAmong the habits that can cause your blood pressure to increase are eating a lot of sugars and grains and not exercising. Excessive stress can also cause your blood pressure to skyrocket. While this is a serious condition, it’s also one that can easily be treated by:Following a healthy nutrition plan Exercising Getting emotionally balanced Want to know more?

What impact does high blood pressure really have!!
Well, I guess that depends on the context of the question! I’ll break it into two parts and see if we can make some sense of it. We’ve all had our blood pressure taken at some time and we know that there is the top number (systolic) and the bottom number (diastolic). My normal blood pressure usually looks something like 109/68. Life insurance companies draw a fine line between acceptable and not as acceptable and not acceptable blood pressure readings. Just a sample from a life insurance underwriting guide for a pretty average  company shows that in order to get their best rate a person can’t have any blood pressure readings in the past two years higher than 136/86. For the next best rate they allow a little higher level at 146/90. The next two rate classes top out at 152/92 and 156/94. I doubt if you would find any insurance companies that would find a reading like 180/110 acceptable. Life insurance underwriters put extra emphasis on the diastolic pressure (lower nu

Blood Pressure Measurement What is blood pressure?...
Blood Pressure MeasurementWhat is blood pressure?Blood pressure is the pressure or the force of blood flowing against the walls of the arteries. Blood pressure is constantly changing during the course of the cardiac cycle. Systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure in the cycle. Diastolic blood pressure is the lowest pressure in the cycle. Both pressure readings, the systolic rate and the diastolic rate, are information for the physician to evaluate the status of patients blood pressure. Many factors such as physical activities, anxieties, time of day, can influence one’s blood pressure. Blood pressure is typically low in the morning and increases from afternoon to the evening. Back Pain and High Blood Pressure
Well, a little more details I thought I'd share, perhaps there are others with similar issues. I've got high blood pressure, and my doctor says I have a degenerating disc in my lower back. Back pain is so aggravating, It's not too bad laying down or sitting for a bit. It just gets crazy when standing for any length of time or walking.Really sucks when going to grocery store, halfway through shopping I end up using the buggy as a walker so to speak. The good part is for pain the doctor put me on Vicodin and Soma, most should know what Vicodin is, but Soma is a muscle relaxer, those 2 are little miracles in pill form for me. I'm able to get around better and move without lots of pain. The depressing part of all this, is I had a great job in Orlando, FL that eventually went out of business, afterward my medical issues have gotten worse, so I'm currently unemployed with no insurance, and it really sucks that it seems that doctors really don't give a rat's ass about people without ins
