      Movie review: Blood Diamond
Synopsis:Set during Sierra Leone's bloody civil war in 1999, this thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, a smuggler who sells "blood" diamonds used to finance terrorists. When Archer meets a local fisherman (Djimon Hounsou) whose son has been forced into a child army, the two men's lives become intertwined, and they set off on an adventure that leads them through the world's major diamond centers. My two cents:I made the mistake of watching this film without really knowing what it was about. A huge mistake. Being a fan of Djimon Hounsou’s work (Amistad, Gladiator, Deep Rising… wait, what?) and having recently enjoyed DiCaprio’s role in The Departed, I thought there was nothing to worry about. Well, there was. The movie starts out great, with a horrible massacre and several kidnapping of children. Djimon Hounsou is super pissed. Awesome! But then comes DiCaprio’s character and… I don’t even remember much after that. They do some talking, some walking around, the

      DVD Review - Blood Diamond
Tom Fitzpatrick It’s always hard to watch a DVD where a young, attractive (I’ve heard) white male is thrust into the depths of Africa with nothing but a native male and an attractive white female to make him see he’s been leading the wrong life all these years. Leonardo DiCaprio plays Danny Archer, a smuggler in ‘conflict diamonds’ who comes from a troubled background but has found a way to fend for himself on the rough streets of Sierra Leone. When Archer is caught attempting to smuggle diamonds into Liberia, he is thrown into jail where he sees local fisherman Solomon Vandy being threatened by a rebel commander. (more…)

      Blood Diamond (2006)
Blood Diamond was one of the best action films I've ever watched. An action packed drama with a conscience movie produced and directed by Edward Zwick, which has been nominated in the Academy Awards last 2006. Starring Leonardo DiCaprio as Danny Archer, Jennifer Connelly as Maddy Bowen and Djimon Hounsou as Solomon Vandy, the film portrays a country torn apart by the struggle between government soldiers and brutal rebel forces. The film depicts many of the atrocities including rebels cutting off people's hands to stop them from voting in upcoming elections.Set against the backdrop of civil war and chaos in 1990’s Sierra Leone, the story begun when Solomon Vandy, a fisherman by the Revolutionary United Front(RUF) rebels was separated from his family and enslaved to work under the command of Captain Poison, the commander of the RUF. The group collects a precious stones diamonds use to finance their war effort often trading them for arms. While working in the diamond fields as a forc

      Subtitled cinema : Blood Diamond
I went to see subtitled Blood Diamond, starring (a likeable) Leonardo DiCaprio, Dijmon Hounsou, and Jennifer Connelly. Set during Sierra Leone’s civil war of the 1990s, Leonardo DiCaprio stars as a South African ex-mercenary who makes an unlikely union with a Mende fisherman in a quest to find a rare diamond. The film was great, and the African scenery was just stunning. It was a very sad film though, bringing home the reality of conflict diamonds and the resulting suffering in Africa. Rough diamonds are used by rebel movements or their allies to finance armed conflict aimed at undermining legitimate governments. Profits from the trade in conflict diamonds were used to buy arms, children were trained to be soldiers and people often had their hands cut off…. You can read about it here - Blood Diamonds:Tracing the deadly path of the world’s most precious stones There were only 4 of us in the cinema theatre, which was great. They forgot to put the subtitles on - durrrr

Blood Diamond Movie
I saw Blood Diamond recently and I have to say that was impressed. You would not expect Leonardo DiCaprio to play a badass, but he played the role well. The storyline is complex with many different sides - diamond smugglers, civilians, Sierra Leone government, U.S. government and reporters.

Thoughts On The Movie Blood Diamond
Another Must See Movie Yesterday, my wife and I attended the movie Blood Diamond. Although it almost could be an activist-type movie, we found it had a unique compelling and entertaining story. At the movie's end, my wife was wondering about the source of her diamonds (our engagement ring was purchased in the 80's). She was also upset of the typecast of Leonardo DiCaprio who seems to most assuredly die in the end of most of his movies. Blood Diamond addresses the corruption involved diamond smuggling - how tainted smuggled gems are with the innocent blood of so many people. Movies have been previously made occupyied with the smuggling of drugs, oil, gold, weapons and any other highly demanded goods or services, while diamonds gave an entirely different perspective from a different part of the world. The reality of war torn continent of Africa's soil said to be red from the shedding of innocent blood makes Americans ponder our lack of concern for the problems there. On

The perfect balance between entertainment and a thoughtful social commentary helps the center of the story to have a real heart and a palpable respect for us, the audience. All this praise and I still have not mentioned Leonardo Di Caprio or Djimon Hounsou but I'm going to. Di Caprio opens a new door, introducing us to a character who is a first in his already extraordinary career. He startled us as a very young man with "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" before he fell with a serious case of Titanictis. Now, after a three a long and serious Scorsese cures, this spectacula
