It’s amazing. MPs have voted against awarding themselves an above-inflation pay rise.
And yet I haven’t seen a single blog post on this piece of news by any non-journalist come through my RSS reader.
The blogosphere must be in shock.
It's easy to get lost in the blogosphere. There are thousands of lawyers publishing blogs, and new blawgs launch everyday, each elbowing each other for room in an increasingly more crowded market. Two services have recently launched to help keep it all straight. LexMonitor strives to be a comprehensive database of every blawg. It's organized by category, author, and tags, and is updated as freque

Interesting post from Steve Boriss on The Future of News, on the different effects the blogosphere will have on British and American media outlets. The Internet has caught American journalism flat-footed. Suddenly, there is a huge demand for opinion, and a newly resentful public realizing they have been deprived of it, if not lied to — that there is no such thing as an objective, right-down-the-m

What does the future hold for atheism in the United States? Will momentum build until even our harshest critics will acknowledge the reality of the atheist movement, or might our growing influence wane and further delay the goal of atheist equality? I'm no fortune teller, but I'll gladly speculate on what we might see over the next few years. This post focuses on the future of American atheism wit

Yes, it's true that anyone with access to a computer and some Internet savvy can have a blog up and running in no time. In January of this year I made a bet with members of our team. The bet was that dollar for dollar the long tail and sponsored posts were a better advertising investment than display ads on an "A-List" blog. I knew what the performance was through our network and had seen what the "A-Listers" were charging for display ads. I decided to plunk down some money and see if I was right. I first tried to buy advertising on TechCrunch to prove my point, but when Mike Arrington declined I went looking for a comparable property. I thought about Mashable and even Calacanis.com, but we ultimately purchased a one month campaign on the ultra popular tech website ReadWriteWeb.com, of which I a personally a fan and consider to be "A-List" material . We decided to promote the t
I've finally landed in my hometown of Detroit, MI and am ready for some R & R (YES...I said Detroit). Therefore, I decided that I won't be posting any new content until Monday. However, this week was full of incredible articles for small business owners from some of the best in the blogosphere. So just in case you've missed anything, I've comprised a list of some must reads to get you through the weekend.1) Top 10 Strategies for becoming Uncommonly Successful-My favorite this week was an article written by Stacey Mayo over at Business Know How. Nicely written article that uses exerts from her new book. Re-iterates many things that we(entrepreneurs) lose sight of during hustle and bustle (some of which are mentioned in my post Why are You and Entrepreneur?).2) New IRS Campaign targets h
Raul Castro announced today that he is commuting all death sentences in Cuba (with the exception of 3 individuals charged with terrorism) to lesser sentences, citing humanitarian reasons. Cuba has faced pressure from human-rights activists to abolish its death penalty, which is still administered via firing squad.
The commutations are the latest in a wave of populist reforms introduced by Raul Castro since his older brother Fidel Castro retired and handed him power. Over the weekend he announced he's raising pensions for retirees as well as salaries for some government employees, while earlier this month he lifted long-time bans on Cubans owning cell phones and staying in hotels reserved for foreigners. From the Miami Herald:

If you all get a moment, check out the MASN Sports website and listen to the "Orioles Insider Roundtable". I heard it while on my break here in the office and both Steve Melewski and Dave Johnson interviewed Andy MacPhail.I like Andy's perspective on the team so far, and it seems that he's pleasantly surprised at the team's start, the job that Dave Trembley is doing, and how the talent he acquired are developing. While the Orioles are over .500, I'm going to be cautiously optimistic to see how things go -- especially during their road trip and see how the Orioles do.It is needless to say that the Orioles are doing very well. Then again, we are only about an 1/8 through the season. If Baltimore gets into a hole and starts slumping, expect the trade talks to start up once again with the usual

As we are in the third week of the season, I know one thing -- this team is a lot better than that was last year and I'm upping my win total to 70 for the 2008 Baltimore Orioles. The law of averages may perhaps take over, but so far, it's been good.On Thursday night, the Orioles had their backs to a wall -- however, they fought back against Bobby Jenks (my god is he huge -- he needs to go a Nutri-System diet or something) as the Orioles scored two in the ninth and Adam Jones had a game-winning hit in the 10th inning to give Baltimore the win, 6-5.The bullpen, which has been a tad shaky this week, pitched four scoreless innings and got the win. Jeremy Guthrie was solid -- until the top of seventh inning where he gave back to back home runs to get the hook. He allowed four runs, three earned

American Airlines follows Delta and opens their own blog in order to provide news to their passengers. I'll be looking forward to Sunday, as Erik Bedard returns to face his old team -- the Baltimore Orioles. He looked okay in his first start against Texas, and got shelled in Spring Training but; however, on Sunday, I think he'll be all business against the Orioles.Personally, I'll be rooting for Bedard (well not on Sunday). Not withstanding some of the media reports I have gotten about his surly behavior and whatever, I found him to be a little shy but quite polite at least when I crossed paths with him. He's an exceptional talent, I'll be rooting for him to do well. Unlike Huff, who disrespected the city and Millar rooting for the Sox, Bedard never openly dissed the city or said anything negative.Tonight, the Orioles play their second game of the season and let's hope Daniel Cabrera can kic

New York's Times Square military recruiting station.David Karnes, the hapless entertainment attorney from Los Angeles who was investigated – but cleared – of the bombing of the military recruiting station in Times Squares, serves as a cautionary tale for individuals who exercise their free speech rights, only to find themselves a target of a federal investigation and slandered in public. I say this is a cautionary tale because although the mainstream press reported on the investigation, then reported again that he was not linked to the bombing, conservative bloggers tarred and feathered him without acknowledging later his innocence. Karnes had the misfortune of timing. He wrote a lengthy memo to Democrats on the Iraq war and included a photo of himself in front of the Times Square rec

Having a blog with Blogger has all sorts of benefits. It has everything apart from one very basic thing... and from the title, you can probably guess what it is. Yes, you guessed it, they lack good templates for its users. All the ones they provide are boring and useless. Unlike the ones provided by Wordpress, Blogspot templates are NOT stylish, bland and don't evoke the readers interest in your blog. Now you might say, "So what! Just look on the Internet, there are bound to be plenty there!" Well, there aren't plenty there. The majority of the templates on the world wide web are good, yet they all lack something very essential to make an excellent blog. Interestingly, many bloggers gave the same feedback that there is a dramatic shift in the number of viewers from different companies of the world.Interestingly, Mark Collier raises an important question regarding companies being vigilant on blogosphere i.e. How many companies monitoring blogosphere take further action when something good/bad is being talked about?Staying with that topic, I'm quite unsure I have seen too many Indian companies coming to my site. Apart from me, talking to many bloggers have revealed the same state i

Last week I was invited to a great holiday dinner hosted by MiamiBeach411.com at Tuscan Steak in South Beach.
It was great to meet the crew from this popular Miami Beach info site: Gus Moore, Michelle Willett, and Mirna Arce. I know other people from their org were present, but the event was so well-attended that it was hard to maneuver around the room.
So, I showed up only about 30 minutes late to find, like, half of the restaurant full of Miami bloggers. I am amazed and surprised that there is such a large contingent of Miami bloggers. I had NO idea. Truth be told, I was dragging a bit that day (Basel hangover) and had only planned on staying about 45 minutes, but I had the good fortune of sitting between Michelle Willett and Dan Renzi (yes, that guy from The Real World) and across from my friend, Lucas Lechuga, so the conversation was fun, and the hours zipped by. So here is a list of some of the Miami bloggers and their blogs for you to enjoy. I haven't been to all of

Brad The Blogbee, who lives at Polliwog's Pond has been buzzing around the blogosphere with his circler smile and big button nose, giving out the "Good Buzzz Blog Award" created with the help of Mike Wheeler at Things By Mike.According to Brad The Good Buzzz Award is: "The Good Buzzz Blog Award is for blogs that have generated a happy hum in the blogosphere. Whether it be for their blog in general, one outstanding, unusual or controversial post, or for something cool the blogger has done. Or even for recognizing some promising, brand-new blogs."Now, that is the nicest bee buzz about a blog a blogger could hope for, and I'm honored he's buzzed about A Nice Place In The Sun. Thank you Brad The Blogbee and give Polli a buzz for me, (that means thank her too!)Here are the blogs I believe are making a buzz around the blogosphere and I think Brad would agree. If you don't see your name for this award I have nominated you for another award that I haven't posted. I'm soooo behind on
Nice post from ReadWriteWebWritten by Alex Iskold / November 28, 2007 / 42 comments In 2004 Chris Anderson wrote an influential book called The Long Tail. In it, he argued that the future of business is to sell less of more. The main premise is that collectively, things that are in rather low demand can amount to quite large volumes. This is because there is a large number of people who belong to the long tail and they encompass a wide rage of tastes. A classic example of successful long tail sales is Amazon. A substantial subset of the book sales for the largest online retailer comes from obscure books. Amazon itself could afford to stock up on rare books as well as offer these via numerous online partners. The net effect is that a lot of book sales occured in the long tail. This phenomenon is captured nicely in a quote from an Amazon employee: "We sold more books today that didn't sell at all yesterday than we sold today of a

A Google-Skype partnership would make sense on some levels because the companies have teamed up on some major issues.Google and Skype, together at last? At least on some blog posts they are.The rumor that Google might acquire Skype was started Monday in a blog on the U.K.'s respected Guardian and since then, the report has taken on a life of its own at investment firms.Like many Google rumors there is no solid basis for any such speculation (remember the Google phone?). But it persists because there are some logical reasons for the two companies to establish a deeper relationship."Currently in favor around London's webbist community is the rumor that Google has been in negotiations to buy Skype," wrote Guardian blogger Jemima Kiss. "Google bases all of its mobile projects in London, so this is the fitting place for such a rumor.A Google-Skype partnership would make sense on some levels because the companies have teamed up on some major issues. For instance, the two companies partnere

Although John Chow has never been to a sex video like Paris, he has been to a lot of scandals and controversies. Like Paris Hilton who became successful after her sex scandal was exposed, John Chow thrived and became famous from the scandals and controversies he created and he has been involved to. Paris Hilton and John Chow seem to share the same passion as well… expensive cars, fine dining and publicity. Guess what, both of them earn money from the publicity that they get. Need more proofs?Paris Hilton is famous for her frequent violations of laws and regulations, the same reason that led her to spend 22 days in jail. John Chow on the other hand has blatantly violated Google's rules and regulations leading him to be demoted in Google's search result for his own name. Quite surprisingly, both John Chow and Paris Hilton manage to get away from their misdemeanors and are still beloved by many. Essentially we ask ourselves, why are these two evil icons still successful despite all t

5 Reasons I Used To Suck At Social Media:
“In the last few months, I’ve gone from getting almost no social traffic to regularly having 3,000+ visitor spikes. Here’s what I was screwing up before my breakthroughs. …”
Who is the Focal Point of Your Design?:
“Sometimes we try very hard to create an impressive visual appearance. Other times too much priority is given to designing for search engines. While an attractive design and search engine optimization are both important, ultimately the design should be created for the user. …”

Brand-new web start-up Pijoo (pijo.com) have launched into the blog community with the open beta of their new social networking site for bloggers.
Brought to you by the team behind UK start-up, Gizfolio ltd, Pijoo looks similar to other blog networking services, but adds an easy to navigate layout, super slick (if a little wide) widgets to track your blog visitors, and over-all a very nice feel to the site.
Literally only a few days old, the community looks in urgent need for early adopters, but sign-up is free, so there’s really no reason not to add your blog before it gets over-crowded.
They have a selection of widgets to suit your blog, with more to come as the site grows, although my only peeve with this beutiful site is the size of the widgets, make me a thinner one please!
For the ’serious blogger’, there is an optional sponsor account for a one-off payment of $30 - which I’ll be signing up for, if only to try the extra features, such as detailed statistic
