So i’m back to exploring how to best promote a blog, and realized that i a friend of mine owns a very prominent blog, and here’s the recipe to his success: find yourself a niche, make sure it’s not to restrictive but not too widespread, stick to it, post often and promote it.

Come to the dark side, Luke!" K said, channeling James Earl Jones."Don't listen to him, Luke!" Me neither.]Black Darth Vader urged Luke (a.k.a. The Mayor) to become evil while Red Darth Vader encouraged him to resist and remain true to the Jedi."It's much harder to be good," Red Darth Vader reminded Luke. The Mayor weighed his options and PLAYED the two adult Vaders.[Who were, perhaps, a little too into the game. We've been having a friendly debate on the IZEA message boards about how long a blog post should be. Some interesting studies have been referenced and The Elements of Style (the definitive guide to writing) has been cited. While some good points have been made, some of them just aren't relevant to what we do. Many bloggers focus tightly on conveying topic-specific information in each post. Their posts tend to be concise. Some bloggers are more interested in weaving a story or making a connection with their readers. They may need more words to accommodate their style. Neither style has to be wrong for the other to be right. Blog posting is not "one size fits all." Other than satisfying the minimum word requirement for our sponsored opportunities I think it's okay for us to relax a

As a blogger who is wishing to make money online, your most powerful tool in achieving to your goal is writing a world class blog post. What do you mean by a world class blog post? That means it is a post that will entice people from all around the world and giving you the recognition. But saying is easy. How do you actually do it?

Interesting post over at Steve Pavlina’s which takes up the question that How Much Is a Blog Post Worth? In the post Steve decides that posts on his blog are worth $2400 calculated over a 10 year life span. He calculates this by taking the total earnings of his site and dividing it by the post numbers and then multiplying it by the lifespan of the post. It’s actually an interesting formula and one that I used on my own blogs for the first year or so. The only problem is that after 18-24 months of my own blogging the increase in my own earnings began to slow each month and the post numbers continued to rise at a similar rate. I’m about to run out the door for the morning but I’ll make a few further brief comments on it (note - Steve and I agree on these things and he says
If you have a blogspot /blogger blog and want to add Google adsense anywhere in your post body you have come to right place !In post body you can add google adsense at1) Top of the post , below the title of the post. ( 468 x 60 or 336 x 280 google adsense unit)2) A 200 x 200 google adsense unit at right or left hand top corner of the post.3) At bottom / footer of the post above comments . I wanted to spell out how to create and market a blog post. There are, of course, several different ways to market your latest blog post. Below I have outlined a step-by-step strategy for marketing your latest blog post.1. Your ping list has to be in order. Check out the recommended ping list if you don't have a ping list you are happy using. The first part of marketing your post starts with your ping list. Plain and simple.2. You must tag your post. Ultimate Tag Warrior is a required plugin for Wordpress blogs. It will allow you to categorize content based on a tagging engine. Without a doubt, Ultimate Tag Warrior is one of the most powerful Wordpress plugins. Each time you make a post add your keywords as tags at the bottom of your post.3. Tag Technorati throughout your post. For example

I know, I'm really supposed to be working on the complaining, but yesterday was a tough day here. I spent all morning in the doctor's office. I have a lump in my throat that seems to get better with a steroid shot, only to come right back within a day. The doc can't see anything, but ran a WBC and Thyroid test, gave me another shot, and sent me home with antibiotics (which make my stomach feel lovely) and orders for rest. With a toddler. *smirk*Yesterday afternoon was spent in the vet's office with our male cat. He started drooling really bad Monday night. I called Tuesday and they told me to wait it out and see if it got better. It didn't. The vet couldn't tell me much, but Big Kitty got a shot and some antibiotics, so he and I were a sorry pair yesterday. I am happy to report that Big Kitty is looking much better this morning after camping out with me on the couch last night. E.B. spent the night with my parents and he is spending the day with my grandmother. It's t

Legal experts say anonymous post on political site is likely protected under free speech lawsDecember 05, 2007 (Computerworld) -- A Wisconsin high school teacher was arrested last week after a blog post that included support for student killers like those involved in the 1999 Columbine, Colo., High School massacre.James Buss was arrested Nov. 29 and charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful use of computerized communications systems, according to a spokeswoman from the West Bend, Wis., police department. Buss, a teacher from a high school in Milwaukee, admitted to making an anonymous blog post on the political blog Boots and Sabers on Nov. 16, the spokeswoman said.In the post, Buss said teacher salaries in West Bend "made me sick; $60,000 for a part-time job where you 'work' maybe five hours per day and sit in the teachers' lounge and smoke the rest of the time. But whining here doesn't stop the problem. We've got to get in back of the kids who have had enough of lazy, no-good
A question you might be asking and a question which has been debated by bloggers is how longer should a blog post be?An important factor when deciding how long your posts should be is to consider the actual attention span of web readers. This has been the subject of many studies and it has been found that the attention span for a web reader is about 96 seconds for a blog or a website page. Using this wisdom as a guide – you should keep your content limited to short articles which can be read quickly in the limited amount of time that a web reader will actually spend on your site.SEO experts say that either very short or very long articles do not get as high a ranking in the search engines as articles of a reasonable length. An article of reasonable length would be about 250 words. Th

When you write a blog post, there are a number of things that can be done to make it stand out and catch the attention of your readers. A well-written blog post is the first thing on that list almost every time. However, there are a dozen or more other things that can take very little time and multiply not only your exposure but the quality of readership on your blog.
The number one thing on that list is the addition of graphics and photos to each and every post you write. It may seem like a small addition, but without a visual addition, many blogs look stale and overly wordy. The last thing you want is for your visitors to think your blog looks wordy.

Just a cold, gloomy Monday morning, so here's some audio hot cocoa...An ambient artist that I have become quite the fan of in the last few months is Mr. Jonas Munk, aka Manual, from Denmark. He's got a bunch of releases out, and this one, called Until Tomorrow is on the Morr Music label, which these days is certainly a stamp of quality if you're into the relaxed side of things. And who doesn't like to relax? The terrorists, that's who. They should just put this music on and maybe they won't be wanting to blow shit up all the time... Manual - It'll Be Fine (ysi)... see what I mean? I have no desire to strap on a vest of dynamite right this second. Thanks, Manual!
Today I have thought to write a short post here. This is completely an interactive post. I am inviting all of my blogger friends to come and post their comments here on the most popular post of their...

Ok so I thought for my “save the environment” post I’d give out some easy tips on what you can do at home and at work to play you’re part in conserving energy and the environment as a whole.
With all the load shedding we’re experiencing here in South Africa the need to conserve electrical energy has become apparent (to say the very least). I think that just being aware of the problem can go a long way to affect change. You really don’t need every light in the house blazing at once or your TV, radio and computer on at the same time do you? They also say turning your geyser off in the morning and back on at night can save loads of energy – you’d probably save quite a bit of cash too (just don’t forget to turn it back on otherwise you may get a bit of a shocking wakeup call).
On a side note take heed of the little save electricity messages that come on TV in the evenings – you know the one that says turn off all essential applia
The chocolate chip cookie is truly an American classic and a staple in just about any food or baking blog. For most recipes I usually look for similar recipes on other blogs, but for this recipe, what’s the point?
One of my favorite geology professors, Gerry Weber, liked to say, “All food is good, some is better”. He was also once overheard saying, “Don’t ever give cookies to stoners. They don’t appreciate them, they just eat ‘em.” Are all cookies good?
To the contrary: when you think of all the home made chocolate chip cookies you have had in your life, you realize that some people can really screw them up. In the last 30 years of making cookies I have probably made this recipe more than any other cookie, but I actually believe that the chocolate chip cookie is one of the more challenging cookies I have on my site.
For years I made this with a Sunbeam Mixmaster with no issues. Then, 12 years ago, my wife bought me my dream machine: a lim
Having a blog is not important, maintaining and managing your blog, and getting good traffic creates matter. If you use blogger like I do, you should update your Meta tags once in a month. I know sometimes we feel lazy and just let it as it is... I agree that a search engine does not consider Meta keywords tag in ranking calculations and it’s never seen by visitors, but don’t forgot the Meta description tag is visible beneath listings in SERPs.Your title tags plays a vital role when it comes to Search Engine Results Page (SERPs) so insert some targeted keyword in title tags. It is true that Google does rank dynamic urls as long as you don’t have too many parameters and your parameters don’t look like session variables.Keyword specific domains and sub domains rank high in search engine algorithm. Search engines look for keywords because of this the keyword in the url suggests that the site contents are related to the keyword. Even visitors like to click the link that contains re
I didn't have any time today for blogging, but I've read the Romania in one post - The thoughts of an IT professional and it really troubled me and made me unhappy. I couldn't find who is the guy writing this blog, no about page - it's like he is hiding from Google but reading in between posts I found out he left Romania 15 years ago.
I've read somewhere that Romanians are the nation that hurts itself most from all the other nations in the world by the bad publicity made by it's own people. It seems this is the case here as well.
NOTE: if you are reading further this post, I don't have anything personal against the named blog and owner.
Ok, so the reason it got me so discontent and ready to put work aside to answer his story is that while what he is saying might be true, I couldn't find a single good word about Romania. And I need to make things right by commenting on some of his ideas and bring some more new ones. So from the long list of complains about Romania I will st
The latest storm to brew out of the Ministry of Education’s tea cup is about one Otto Fong, a teacher in one of Singapore’s top schools, Raffles Institution, who has written a ‘coming out of the closet’ blog post.
I didn’t have time to properly read it this morning, but it was a long, personal, heartfelt post about being gay and his indignation about the treatment given to gays by the government and them seemingly going back on their words about being more open to gays.
It seems that he’s been called up by the principal of the school (according to The Online Citizen’s sources), and what do you know …. the blog post has been taken down. Not sure whether it was done voluntarily or was Otto Fong pressured into removing it.
[As seen on Tomorrow.sg]
Update: Copies of the letter from his post have been reproduced here and here.
Thanks to Lancaster UAFAfter an astonishing five-month hiatus that illustrated pretty much everything that he thought of communication with the membership, Nick Griffin has finally updated his Chairman's Blog, earning himself the 2007 Pinnochio Award for most lies told in a single blog post. The first lie, although maybe it's a pig-farmer's idea of a joke which I just didn't get, is where he explains the reasons for not posting on his blog since Methusaleh was at kindergarten, where he states that 'I enjoy writing the blog too much...I am very wary of making it too regular'. You can stop worrying, Nick. One post after a five-month gap is not too regular, no matter how you try to spin it.Griffin immediately goes on the attack against those around the recent leadership challenge. Obviously furious that anyone would dare to stand against him, you can almost hear the spluttering and see his face redden as the blood pressure rises.'The challenge was not a genuinely legitimate one fro

I am confused.
This won’t come as a shock to some of you who know me and have watched the increased addling of my brain through sleep deprevation caused by fatherhood. Just at the moment, though, I feel wide awake and a little bit peeved (yet still confused) by Jakob Nielsen’s latest offering “Write Articles, Not Blog Postings“.
As you might imagine, I was intrigued by the title, so I started to read. The summary of Nielsen’s article states:
“To demonstrate world-class expertise, avoid quickly written, shallow postings. Instead, invest your time in thorough value added content that attracts paying customers.”
So far so good. I agree totally - this is the basis of a good focused business blogging strategy, particularly for consultants, topic experts and professional services companies such as accountants and lawyers. Value added content is the perfect way to develop and enhance your reputation as well as encourage the spread the word about your expertise - in t
My friend Hernan asked if he could translate my Abridged Ethnography of the Blogosphere into Spanish - to which I of course said YES!!!
So here is the Breve etnografia de la Blogosfera.

In two weeks this blog will turn a year old. It has been fun and interesting to chronicle the world of drinks and this entry marks my 500th since starting the blog.In my first entry I outlined a purpose for this blog and have tried to stay true to that direction:"The great thing about writing about beer, wine and spirits is that interesting stories can be found no matter where you travel. You can visit Trappist monasteries in Belgium where the monks brew beer. You can tour a number of wineries in California that are owned by actors and directors. You can enjoy a $1,000 mint julep at Churchill Downs during the running of the Kentucky Derby. Or you can just pour your favorite beverage in a glass and spend part of a Saturday evening on your deck with family and friends. That's what this blog is going to be about. My goal is to further the discussion of great libations, talk about some of the issues facing beverage companies and drinkers, plus share a few fun stories. Thanks for coming alo
IN THE NEWS: According to World Magazine, In Mich., people watched in horror as a 21 year-old wheelchair-bound man was softly struck by a slow-moving 18-wheeler. But instead of being knocked over, the chair became lodged in the grill of the truck. The driver had no idea that happened and had continued to navigate through town for almost 2 miles. People called 911 and the driver eventually stopped. The wheelchair-bound man was fine and called it, "quite a ride."Usually my blog posts are lame. But this one is going to be EXTRA lame. Why??1) My daughter has just planted 2 Webkinz stuffed animals on my computer desk, hinting she's ready to play Webkinz on my computer.2) My mother is down, visiting, and I don't want to ignore her for too long. (Although she is talking to me as I blog this.) 3) I have no idea what I have planned for this weekend, thus no information to blog about.4)I don't have time to visit my favorite blogs this morning, thus giving me no information to blog about.5)
The following post on tips for writing a blog was submitted by Lyndon from Flockblog who in his email to me with it described it as a simple ‘back to basics’ kind of post. Thanks Lyndon. Here are ten tips that help me with my blog writing. 1. Make your opinion known 2. Link like crazy 3. Write less 4. 250 Words is enough 5. Make Headlines snappy 6. Write with passion 7. Include Bullet point lists 8. Edit your post 9. Make your posts easy to scan 10. Be consistent with your style 11. Litter the post with keywords1. Make your opinion knownPeople like blogs, they like blogs because they are written by people and not corporations. People want to know what people think, crazy as it sounds they want to know what you think. Tell them exactly what you think using the least amount of words possible.2. A few days ago we announced support for MetaWeblog, which is a protocol that allows you to edit your blog entries offline, using an editor, and publish them to your blog whenever you want. A few days ago Microsoft announced the Beta 2 version of Windows Live Writer, and we are happy to announce that Sampa is the first blogging platform (outside of Microsoft, of course) to fully support it -- even before it shipped! One of the cool features is that you can do a blog entry, like this one, add the pictures and they will automatically be uploaded to your site. To get going, you must first download and install the Windows Live Writer from Enabling your blog is easy, j
With my new bidding directory gaining momentum in terms of support and backlinks improvements thus far. It is now sitting pretty at No.6 on Google search results for the keyword ‘bidding directory‘. So I thought it would be great to push it up a notch by running a contest where it will benefit everyone which [...]
I don't know much about cloaking. I checked back on the SEM Inc. blog and they had this great post about cloaking. When I am done the shopautodotca seocontest I am going to "try" cloaking. Not with a real site or anything just as an experiment. You know, for scientific purposes. ;-)

I often find when I post something that I’ve forgotten to do something I had planned to and that might have made the post just that much better, who knows at times it could mean the difference between the post disappearing into the archives or rocketing to the top of some social networking site. So I have made a post of what I should be doing every time before I hit that Publish button. So here we have 10 simple steps to a solid post, hopefully it helps others who make the same mistakes I do and serves a reminder to myself.
1. Working Title, The first thing that pops into your head to describe the post will do.
2. Research, Know what you are on about, real facts to back up your words are worth the effort.
3. Write, Don’t rush, one great post a week is better than 1 crap one everyday.
4. Edit, Cross check your facts, correct spelling, rearrange text if need be, cut bad or usless bits of information out.
5. Links, Give credit to the places you researched a
Okay folks its time to reveal what I’ve been up to for the past week .
As most of you are well aware I’ve had a little experiment going asking people to link to the post “Experiment with your local link whore” using the term “Irish in Denmark”.
Now, one side effect of creating a “mini Google bomb” is that I know rank #1 for the term “Irish in Denmark”. Go ahead, have a look for yourself.
The experiment!
However, nice as that is, it was not the real goal of the experiment, which was to see how many people read the Terms of Service on a website.
The answer, rather predictably is:
Nobody reads the terms of service!
Okay, let me explain how this all came about. I got the idea for this because of the entire Krak.dk deep linking incident, and had actually started the experiment back at 1:06 am on February 6th, before the Kraks guys started their blogs.
On the 6th I removed the Creative Commons licence from this blog and rep
This post really got me started this morning! McCall is not one of the top referrers for no reason. Obviously he knows how to get people motivated. His small direct line (around 83 members) is really doing a great job -> he's got more than 12.000 members in his network.
Class, I received a comment today from one of the gang, Mr. Humor-Blog himself! And he inspired me with his Totally Inappropriate Card Day. Thus, I have a confession to make to ya'll: with my recent massive blog surfing/sniffing/surveying/snooping combined with the recent partying at the Oscars (and especially the after parties!), your unique and very special blogs have become one big blur to me. I can't recall who is who anymore unless you tap HARD on my blog with comments. So Identify Yourself by comments. I don't even care if they're inappropriate. In fact, the more inappropriate-- the more I'll laugh, and that's a way to win brownie points with your blondalicious teacher. HINT!Did you listen to me and blog about the Oscars? That was your homework...remember?! You probably were very naughty while I was busy and forgot all about the Oscars or went to sleep like so many did during the Oscars and then woke up with total amnesia.I checked out the blogs on Outpost Earth, and I was
