Over the weekend I've been playing with a new alternative front end for the blog. It is designed to give a more "newsy" view than the "time-based" view of the traditional blog format, and to help make it easier to keep track of the amount of material that we are now publishing. The idea is that there will be a more "magazine" style page on www.mattwardman.com, and the existing design will stay on www.mattwardman.com/blog/. Here is a screenshot of the prototype

With the ability to "move categories" - I am able to rearrange, split, and combine various blogs. One of the ideas that I am toying with is giving every current Main Page Poster their own individual blog (sort of like the new Thinking Independently blog from Indy Voter) where each blogger can have some control over their own blog that would still default all posts on the front page. I have already moved some of Indy's community blog posts over to his new blog to show how that can work.

Had a little setback in posting the new blog design--something called surgery. As I'm limited to rest, though, I've been able to catch up with the last things I needed to complete.A few post transfers and URL updates, and the new design goes live. I'm so excited! Given I've just redesigned the site, I thought it would be nice to keep a visual comparison of the old 2007 look and feel versus the new 2008 blog interface and design.
Sadly image rendering in IE and Firefox lags behind that of Opera and Safari (the four browsers I review the site with), so these images may be a little 'out of focus'. If that's the case for you please get back to me and I'll see if I can do anymore to improve the issue, prior to the two 'largest by volume of users' browsers catching up of course.

well after i've seen some amazing wordpress templates all over the place and I'm thinking about giving my blog a make over and running it in wordpress... i know it's a little crazy.. but, if you review all the bigg bloggers out there such as Shoemoney, John Chow, and Problogger you will notice they are running on the wordpress platform and they have some clean looking design to them. So not only are the bigg bloggers using them the php that goes along with using blogger will give me a challenge which will help me learn a little more php along the way... which is a good thing :)
Blog Design is one of the most important aspects of your blog itself, it is the front door, where people who walk in may already be on their way out if your blog is ugly, badly organized and does not have flow to it. Being a visitor to countless website I do and probably many other people out there too like organized navigation with some quick links to good articles.
Some people are still getting their designs wrong, they put all these recent articles in a column that is miniscule with a font that does not differ from their background hence making it a big blur. In addition to this some people decide that it is perfectly fine to stick five, six, seven or even eight 125×125 ad buttons on their site when they look as out of place as a rickshaw in the streets of new york.

Previously, I received a comment from gsv13 regarding the page error that occurred when he browsed using firefox. I started to fix the bugs. During I was fixing the script, I decided to make my blog looks more impressive.
I decided to do that because I know that visitors start to judge my blog with the layout, graphic design and overall blog presentation. They will also have a quick overview on the number of recent reader, blog statistic, freebie, useful link & etc.
Secondly, they will look at the title and contents. Most of the time, visitor will decide whether want to stay or leave with the first feeling on the overall design presentation.

Because I am investing in promoting my blog, I thought it would be good to make it more appealing and functional. Right now, I am waiting on an opportunity to implement a totally new template. After which my blog will be under construction.The upcoming changes include another sidebar, more expandable sections, a new color scheme, and a new header. The connection is my country is still very slow and this makes my usual routine, blog surfing became slower. This makes me wonder whether a simple blog with a fast loading time will keep users from being pissed away.
