Blogging Basics: Importance of Blog Design
Blogs are becoming more and more popular. In many quarters it now seems that having a blog is more normal than not having a blog. Now many Web businesses are starting blogs to keep in contact with customers and give customers the heads up on new products and services being considered. The blog has become a marketing tool. Internet promotion is no longer simply a matter of having a website and advertising its existence on every popular website and in every popular newsletter. Now you can promote your business products and services with blogs.People who spend a lot of time using the Web have likely read many blog posts whether they realize it or not

A Sneak Preview of the Improved Wardman Wire Blog Design
Over the weekend I've been playing with a new alternative front end for the blog. It is designed to give a more "newsy" view than the "time-based" view of the traditional blog format, and to help make it easier to keep track of the amount of material that we are now publishing. The idea is that there will be a more "magazine" style page on www.mattwardman.com, and the existing design will stay on www.mattwardman.com/blog/. Here is a screenshot of the prototype

Some notes on the new blog design
You may or may not have to log back in to change your status from visitor to member. There are certain features that you will see as a member that you do not see as a visitor. With the ability to "move categories" - I am able to rearrange, split, and combine various blogs. One of the ideas that I am toying with is giving every current Main Page Poster their own individual blog (sort of like the new Thinking Independently blog from Indy Voter) where each blogger can have some control over their own blog that would still default all posts on the front page. I have already moved some of Indy's community blog posts over to his new blog to show how that can work. One thing to note... as a current poster on the community blog, please try to use the category assigned to your user name when pos

Blog Tutorial - Tips For Blog Templates & Blog Design In Photoshop
[a list of free blog resources can be found at the end of the tutorial] Definition Of A Blog So what is a blog? According to Wikipedia (a great source of constantly updated info), "A weblog, web log or simply a blog, is a web application which contains periodic time-stamped posts on a common web page. Weblog is a portmanteau of 'web' and 'log.' The term blog came into common use as a way of avoiding confusion with the term server log."

Out with the old, in with the new - blog design that is...
Given I've just redesigned the site, I thought it would be nice to keep a visual comparison of the old 2007 look and feel versus the new 2008 blog interface and design. Sadly image rendering in IE and Firefox lags behind that of Opera and Safari (the four browsers I review the site with), so these images may be a little 'out of focus'. If that's the case for you please get back to me and I'll see if I can do anymore to improve the issue, prior to the two 'largest by volume of users' browsers catching up of course. New Theme Update: Blog Design Change
As November 15th approaches I am getting ready to say goodbye to the old theme and hello to the new one. There is now a possibility that the new theme will be released ahead of time, I have completed 11/17 articles but I have still not resurrected the CSS problem, JohnTP continues to evade my questions, I think I might try to go to the WP forums or DigitalPoint. Out with the old, in with the new: What exactly is new in the new theme? Well, I have a new and improved interface, a footer with lots of links to friends, similar blogs and make money networks, and a MyBlogLog viewers box. I have also implemented a system whereby there are many links to articles on the front page which will always be there. In addition to this there are mainly many graphical changes as opposed to content changes, new services will be released as time goes by. I have removed a lot of the clutter that was there before which made it look very untidy and quite messy at times…I know I have a cleanish theme b

      Blog Design, Important & Overlooked
Blog Design is one of the most important aspects of your blog itself, it is the front door, where people who walk in may already be on their way out if your blog is ugly, badly organized and does not have flow to it. Being a visitor to countless website I do and probably many other people out there too like organized navigation with some quick links to good articles. Some people are still getting their designs wrong, they put all these recent articles in a column that is miniscule with a font that does not differ from their background hence making it a big blur. In addition to this some people decide that it is perfectly fine to stick five, six, seven or even eight 125×125 ad buttons on their site when they look as out of place as a rickshaw in the streets of new york. GET SERIOUS ABOUT DESIGN I am asking everyone to get serious about their blog design, if you want a new design but you don’t know how to do it…guess what go to www.elance.com and hire a web designer w

How to make your blog design ‘web 2.0′
Rhys’s recent redesign is particularly web 2.0 wouldn’t you agree? I like to think eruanna.net is pretty web 2.0 too! I’ve decided to write about web 2.0 and how applying the principals of this ‘new craze’ to your blog. I’m going to start by explaining web 2.0. Essentially all it is is a marketing buzz word originally coined by O’Reilly. If your really interested in web 2.0 I suggest you read that article, I could probably recite it to you but that’s because I’ve written essays about it for uni! You could also read the Wikipedia Definition which is broken down into handy subsections. Really all we’re looking at here is the design concepts of web 2.0 and not how it all came about. White Space White Space in my opinion is one of the most useful things you have in your design repertoire and its used to great advantage in web 2.0. If your writing a blog post your going to space it out aren’t you?! If you didn’t divide

Blog Design - 25 KISS techniques
I have had blog design on my mind for a few days in lieu of having the time to actually design something for my impending move to Wordpress. I came up with some wild, wonderful and complicated ideas only to end up reminding myself of the KISS principle - Keep it Simple Sue. I brought myself back to earth and reverted back to more basic web design principles and the particular needs of a blog site. These concepts apply whether you are designing a blog from scratch or trying to choose a pre-made template.Keep it Scope Sensitive1. Consider your blog's goals and target audience, what is its purpose and focus.2. A personal blog tends to have more design leeway than a business blog which often needs to follow certain professional conventions. 3. Consider the age and sex and interests of your audience whichcan influence the whole tone of your page with regard to color, image and layout . Importance of Blog Design
Previously, I received a comment from gsv13 regarding the page error that occurred when he browsed using firefox. I started to fix the bugs. During I was fixing the script, I decided to make my blog looks more impressive.  I decided to do that because I know that visitors start to judge my blog with the layout, graphic design and overall blog presentation. They will also have a quick overview on the number of recent reader, blog statistic, freebie, useful link & etc.  Secondly, they will look at the title and contents. Most of the time, visitor will decide whether want to stay or leave with the first feeling on the overall design presentation. If the visitors feel that my blog looks comfortable for them, they are willing to hang around and read my post. If they feel that my blog is spammy and risky to be infected with virus, they will close their window immediately. So, what is the most important thing? It is the blog design to win the heart and confidence of the vi

The photo in this entry is Mysteriousness. Photographed and edited by me, Lynda Walldez. In recent days in an effort to invest in better blogging, I decided to give my blog a makeover. Because I am investing in promoting my blog, I thought it would be good to make it more appealing and functional. Right now, I am waiting on an opportunity to implement a totally new template. After which my blog will be under construction. The upcoming changes include another sidebar, more expandable sections, a new color scheme, and a new header. All of which will enable a sleeker look, faster loading pages, and a more organized site. Though my only problem is that I cannot do everything on my own. I've tried, and it is actually too complicated for me. Therefore, I would like to employ the help of a skillful and knowledgeable person to help me implement some coding I already have in mind for my blog.I have worked quite hard to get my blog where it is today.
