Please be sure to cast your votes at Tom Wark’s Fermentation. The AWBAs are a great way to bring wider recognition to some of the brightest stars in the wine blogging world, exactly what Tom had in mind when he initiated the awards last year. It’s amazing how much great stuff is out there.Though MFWT didn’t make the cut for the finals, I was honored to be nominated in the category of Best Wine Blog Writing by a few of my fellow wine bloggers from around the world. Blog Awards: A Post Mortem
I've been avoiding this post partly because I was sick and partly because I know there's no way I'll remember everyone I met. And that is not entirely because I drank too much! ;-)I arrived in Dublin and checked in at the Alexander Hotel and met the Irish Blogfather himself, Damien Mulley. Glad I got the chance, because the poor fellow was so busy the rest of the night. Needless to say he pulled off an incredible affair! After a little shopping on Grafton Street I wandered off to the market bar to meet the lovely and talented Sabrina. Her and Ina had organised a wonderful "tea party" for women bloggers. It was a great event in that many of us who had come alone got to meet other bloggers before the actual event. I finally got to put names to faces. Grannymar made a spectacular entr

Drama at the Canadian Blog Awards
Sigh. When I was asked, maybe a month or so ago, to help out in determining whether nominated blogs were eligible for their category in the Canadian Blog Awards, I was happy to do so. As I said, the CBAs have been good to me over the years, although I had always been concerned that maybe they were a little too deeply mired in the political end of the Canadian blogosphere. Over the years, I’ve been fairly careful to avoid the political blogs because I find the participants particularly combatitive, confrontational and often disrespectful. Life’s too short for that kind of conflict and stress! So when I had the opportunity to jump in and represent both the family blog community AND maybe even the PR and marketing and social media blogs where I spend all my time, I thought it was a good opportunity to offer a diverse perspective to the organization of the CBAs. So far, it’s been an unpleasant experience. There was a request for a Best Feminist Blog category, to whi

Thoughts on the Homeschool Blog Awards
Voting has begun for the Homeschool Blog Awards. When the nominations began, I never would have imagined the controversy that would ensue over two little words: family-friendly. Rule #9 on the nominations page states: If your blog violates the rules (no cussing, no photographic nudity, your blog must be a homeschool-related blog), you will not be added to the nomination list. Only family friendly (G-rated) blogs, please! I really thought this was a no-brainer. Apparently there’s a misconception that the HSBA team members had some kind of agenda that would result in the disqualification of certain blogs. In reality, I’d never heard of these blog who were disqualified by their content. Next came the notion that the team members shouldn’t be allowed to participate in the contest. The following comment was left on the HSBA site: Dear, I want to be helpful, and due to some discussions on my blog, I wanted to pass on some comments/thoughts to you. Have you considered t

Metro Brit Blog Awards - How Not To Run A Best Blog Competition
flangracneig pgoramian A few months ago, I posted on the fact that Han got nominated for a Metro Blogging Award in the Youth Category. After spending a few minutes browsing the terms and conditions, she found something that dashed her hopes of victory, and the chance to write for a quality daily newspaper. She e-mailed me with the devastating news. “you have to be 18 and they want proof of age :S “ Han’s 19. She has been since October. Fair enough I believe I nominated her for that category, and Han did nominate herself for it too. I seem to remember putting her age down on the application form, though I cannot be sure. If that is the case both myself and Han could’ve easily fucked up and typed 18. On top of it, I’m sure that we’re not the only who have fucked up. I’m sure that somebody in Metro Towers in deepest darkest London would have the job of sifting through the entries and are able to spot the good blogs from the ones that are taking t

      Really F***ing Stupid Blog Awards
I don't know why I asterisked out the middle part of "fucking". It's not like I have a huge problem with the word, but when I read it in the title it seemed a bit much. I guess I prefer people to actually plow through the content of a post before realizing that I'm capable of swearing like a truck driver.Anyway, are you sick of me whoring for blog awards yet? Maybe not, since you're at my blog again. But then again, perhaps you're reading this at work and you only visited me out of boredom because Dooce hasn't updated lately and you've already read about the shooter at Virginia Tech four thousand times. So anyway, if you're not sick of me check out the sidebar. There's a silly little water can icon that you can click to get to the Really Fucking Stupid blog awards. I've been nominated in a category titled "Blogger most likely to dress up as the Easter bunny and harrass children and little old ladies."Click it. Then click it again. And again. Blog Awards
I know we bloggers are generally a fairly sociable bunch - well I suppose the term is ‘virtually sociable’, since few of us actually meet. In fact we can adopt special personas for our blogging, to a certain extent. There have been mixed reactions to the new best blog awards, organised by Blogger’s Choice. Some purists think that awards ceremonies are a bit over the top. Don’t worry, boys - you won’t have to wear a ball gown! There have been more than 5000 nominations so far, and nominations close on 22 May so there is plenty of time to nominat your favourites. Of course, any blog nominated is likely to pick up traffic from the curiosity factor alone, and that is the dearest wish of any blogger. When you visit the site you can either nominate a blog that has caught your eye, or comment and vote when you read about the nominated blogs - or you can do both! The winners will be announced at PayPerPost’s Postiecon gathering at the beginning of Jun

7 Goals, Metro Brit Blog Awards Scandal and Han’s Nomination
flangracneig pgoramian For anybody who loves football, rather than some whingy Azzuri lowlifes who’s form of “Football” is “hit as hard as you can on the pitch, go down quicker than a Brentford Prostitute on the Pitch”, last night’s result was brilliant. Manchester United 7, Roma 1. This is the Champions League. This is the best of the best of football. The greatest teams in the world compete in the latter stages. By and large, the 8 teams that were left in the competition at 7pm tonight were amongst the best teams in Europe. And Manchester United beat Roma worse than they beat Burton Albion a few years back. It was utter bliss to watch. You can’t help feel that Karma was helping last night. Roma (and Italian Football) have embarrassed Manchester United (and English Football) by sullying the majority of honest fans, whilst protecting it’s heavy handed police force. Even my Liverpool supporting mate wanted Manchester United to win. It&rsqu

      The Politically-Incorrect Philippine Blog Awards
I have nothing against people who practice their religion - because I want others to respect my belief (non-belief for that matter) system — but when individuals overstep the boundaries of their freedom and express utterly presumptuous and insensitive things, I quickly lose my patience. I’m perfectly fine with prayers. People could recite the entire rosary and complete ten novenas in front of me and I wouldn’t really feel any different. It becomes a totally different matter though when people fail to exercise their discretion in choosing the words for their publicly-aired prayers. The following is a transcript of the prayer read during the invocation. So compassionate, so faithful, so loving You are Our Father. We ask You to increase our faith and our love for You that we may use blogging as an instrument to fulfill Your purposes. May we become bloggers of truth and promoters of peace.
