Burma generals blocking aid while 30,000 are dead
Quite difficult to understand, after Burma and its regime of military has received pledges of outside help in the human catastrophe following cyclone Nargis, that it still bars aid workers form entering the country. As there was a holiday yesterday, Burma's embassy was closed and not offering visas for aid workers -- quite an unimaginable bureaucratic failure in light of the possibility, that much more than 30,000 people might have been killed and most of the current rice crop devastated. My personal feeling would be NOT to give money to aid organizations; initially harsh for the population affected, but it is very doubtful that any help will reach them and secondly, it further solidifies the hold of the junta on Burma -- which must be broken or suffering on a much larger scale will follow.

During peak traffic periods, the researchers saw TCP reset packets popping up all over the place, which they said were "aimed at any new TCP connection regardless of the application-level protocol." With Comcast having recently announced its intention to adjust its traffic management practices, alarm bells went off. Instead of giving up the practice of using TCP reset packets to manage BitTorrent traffic, it appeared that Comcast was doing the opposite: extending it to cover all sorts of traffic. In an official statement, Comcast said it had yet to make the announced changes

How many blocking points should be done normally in a 12' span?AnswerHi Wayne - thanks for your question.I assume you're talking about bridging? This is a code issue, so the requirements may differ depending on your location.Generally, bridging isn't required for anything smaller than 2 x 12's. When it is, it's usually at 8' spacing. If you are concerned about lateral bracing in the attic floor it certainly doesn't hurt to add bridging. One row in a 12' span should do it!Hope this helps!Richard Taylor, AIAResidential ArchitectLuxury Home House Plans

      Bed Blocking in Hospitals
We are all aware that the lack of beds for patients who need to be admitted in hospitals today have to wait in line to be accommodated. While the issue is supposedly about the lack of beds for patients who go to the hospitals, the thing is there may be another side of the problem that exists. For patients who are lined-up to be admitted this is a given. But for the people who are already lying on the beds, some doctors and physicians seem to have a problem on finding out when they can be discharged to make room for patients who have diagnosed problems. This is termed as bed blocking for patients who have no problems. Overstaying seems to be like renting out the bed space which could be of use to other more needy patients. Most hospitals run at 85pc capacity as keeping large numbers of beds empty makes no sense. But if there are no community placements available, or a residential home is unwilling to take a patient on, the system becomes choked with patients. Add to that a rush of i

Interesting plea over at Blog Maverick today that ISP’s should be blocking P2P traffic, and for Comcast to hang in there and take a stand that P2P has no room on a consumer network. Most of the argument centers on the needs of the many users against the needs of the one heavy P2P user. While it makes sense at some level, it does not make sense at other levels. No disrespect to Blog Maverick, but there has to be a way to do things on bandwidth that you pay for, and while Comcast has been in trouble in the past for what they do to P2P traffic, the problem is when they go after other protocols and systems like Lotus Notes. Does anyone really think its free ? That all the bandwidth consumed with content being distributed by P2P isn’t being paid for by someone ? That bandwidth is being paid for by consumers. Consumers who pay for personal, not commercial applications. When consumers provide their bandwidth to assist commercial applications, they are subsidizing those commercial ap

This is a technique that I've used in my latest layout titled "I'm 1" in my baby gallery. It's a technique where it will reflects a raised blocking design. Simply follow the steps below. 1. First cut out a few pieces of crafting foam. In my layout, I've cut out three pieces of green crafting foam and two pieces of blue crafting foam. Then attach all the green foams together. Do the same for the blue foams. Later, attach the foams to your background card stock. In my layout, I've cut out the areas where the foams lapsed. 2. Cut out your desired pattern papers pieces to cover the foams.3. Use a bone folder or anything that you can find to enhance the 3D blocks look. 4. Glue the papers down. Then I've inked on the lifted blocks to add some details and dimensions to it.For the finished look of my layout, you can refer to my baby gallery.

You ever try to bring strippers back to the house for an afterparty when there are a 2-year old and a 1-year old crying in the next room the entire time? It's impossible. In an ideal world, a judge would solve this problem by granting visitation rights to Britney Spears. But apparently, California judges are huge cockblocks. After agreeing to grant Britney visitation, and then saying she could have one overnight visit per week, a court has now changed its mind and taken away...

AT&T Suspends Call Blocking Feature for Safety Concerns
AT&T has suspended a feature in its popular Smart Limits parental control program launched early this month (September 4th).AT&T Smart Limits allows parents to set usage limits on a child's talk time, text messages, instant messages (IMs) and downloads, manage how and when a child can communicate, restrict access to mobile Web sites and allocate minutes among users of shared wireless plans.During hours when calls are blocked, a child could still make 911 calls. However, AT&T discovered that if the child makes the call and is disconnected for some reason, the 911 operator would be blocked from calling back.AT&T has report that any 911 operator has ever been blocked in making a return call, and it found the problem in its own evaluations of the service, claimed an A&T spokesman.

Order Rimonabant Now - Blocking Cannabinoid Receptor, CB1 Shows Promise
Marijuana, or more specifically its active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol–has a well-documented tendency to stimulate hunger. And while scientists have traced this property to cannabinoid receptors in the brain, they have had little understanding of the neural circuitry underlying this effect. Understanding this circuitry has important practical implications because blocking the cannabinoid receptor, CB1, offers a promising approach to treating obesity. One such compound, rimonabant (trade name AcompliaTM) is already undergoing clinical testing. In an article in the December 22, 2005, issue of Neuron, Young-Hwan Jo and colleagues report how the circuitry of CB1 is integrated with signaling by the appetite-suppressing hormone leptin. The CB1 receptor is normally triggered by natural regulatory molecules, called endocannabinoids. In their studies, the researchers concentrated on the lateral hypothalamus (LH) of the brain, known to be a center of control of food intake. Their stud

The Social Networking Contract: Blocking Anonymous Users On Flickr
Daily visits to this blog have nearly tripled over the past 3-5 months. The increase in traffic is mostly from image search, which I find fascinating. I’m not sure what the reason is. Is it because Google and Yahoo! are now optimized for Flickr photos (which is where my photos are hosted)? Has Google recently optimized their image search for Flickr? Does the fact that Yahoo!’s completed their transition over to the Flickr photo engine mean that their own image search is optimized? Has that transition dramatically increased the number of Flickr users? I have no answers. What’s interesting about this is not the traffic itself, but where the traffic is going - it’s going to Flickr. Searches bring users to a photo posted on my blog, but they don’t drill down to the blog, they head over to my Flickr page. So to say the visits to my blog have tripled is really not the truth, what has tripled is the number of people that click right through my blog on thei

Senate Democrats Support the Fairness Doctrine by Blocking a Crucial Amendment
In an act of pure arrogance and stupidity, Senate Democrats on Friday blocked an amendment that would have prevented the return of the Fairness Doctrine, a federal rule that gives the government, not only the ability to license and regulate the public airways, but allows government control of political content as well. South Dakota Sen. John Thune, Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman and other Republicans have been attempting to mirror the actions of Mike Pence (R-IN). Pence effectively thwarted the reimplementation of the Fairness Doctrine in the House of Representatives. We should all be proud to have politicians working for the American people as diligently at him. Sadly, however, when Coleman (R-Minn.), tried to bring up his amendment Friday to a defense authorization bill, Democrat Senator Carl Levin objected. More frightening, Senator Levin is not the only communist who supports the Fairness Doctrine. For example, Senator John Kerry, Senator Dick Durbin, and Dianne Feinstein supp

      China Blocking Access to Flickr
The restrictive Chinese government has banned users from accessing Flickr The web site Flickr, a popular photo sharing web site owned by Yahoo, has been banned by the Chinese government. Even though Flickr has not received official word from the government over possibly being blocked, users confirmed they no longer have access to the photo sharing site. Starting last Thursday, the site became inaccessible to users in China -- and is not a technical issue caused by Yahoo. The ban was likely put in place after images from the 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre were published on Flickr, a topic made taboo by the restrictive Chinese government. Yahoo did publicly state whether the images were put online by a Chinese resident or someone outside of the country."It is our understanding that Flickr users in China are not able to see images on Flickr, and we have confirmed that this is not a technical issue on our end," a Yahoo Hong Kong spokesperson said in an e-mail to Reuters. Blocking Wheat Gluten Toxicity With Digestive Enzyme Pill Might Have Prevented My Wife's Neurological Symptoms From Accidental Gluten Exposure
Taking a pill to allow eating gluten is a very appealing idea to people suffering from Celiac disease. Trying to maintain a gluten free diet for life, especially while traveling or having an active social life is nearly impossible. However, for those with Celiac disease, gluten exposure can cause serious symptoms and increase the risk of numerous cancers, especially lymphoma. It is unlikely a pill will become available in the very near future that would allow an unrestricted diet. However, in the February 2007 issue of the journal Gut, Dr. Cerf-Bensussan et al. from France, review the latest research that has progressed to the early stages of developing a gluten digestive enzyme pill. Oral proteases, enzymes that break down proteins, are being developed that target the toxic wheat gluten protein product gliadin that causes Celiac disease. A pill combining two or more of these digestive enzymes may allow people with Celiac disease and gluten sensitivity to eat gluten occasionally durin
