As this country examines the causes of the Great Real Estate Bubble and attempts to place blame on the shoulders of those who acted irresponsibly and led us into the Great Real Estate Collapse, it's important to keep perspective. There were many things that contributed in small ways and large ways to the Great Real Estate Bubble. But not everything that was done was bad.A key example comes to mind
ISLAMABAD: Prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has asked India to stop blaming Pakistan without any evidence. He said this while addressing at the meeting of the federal cabinet here on Saturday. He said that Pakistan is ready for cooperating with India in investigating the Mumbai attacks as this is the need of the hour to cooperate with each other. He said that the Indian government should not

Autumn in the Midwest... when the sun sleeps in and so do I.Ah, you can tell blizzards and ice storms are right around the corner. At 6:00 am it's still pitch black outside. At 7:00 am it's still dark outside. It's soooo hard to get out of bed when you've stayed up reading until Midnight and then woke once or twice during the night.Coffee.Thank You God for Coffee._________________________Last n
By RICHARD A. FRIEDMAN, MD Doctors and psychotherapists generally don't like it when their patients don't get better. But the fact is that lots of patients elude our clinical skill and therapeutic cleverness. That's often when the trouble starts. I met one such patient not long ago, a man in his early 30s, who had suffered from depression since his teenage years. In six years of psychotherapy, he
I am wondering — when will Lou Dobbs and co start laying the blame for the wall-street fiasco squarely on immigrants?
At times of economic difficulty in America, the xenophobic juices of right-wing whites flow like the Mississippi, and the bastard GOP politicians and pundits massage their baseless fears and prejudices like wicked witches.

From CNN: Oil's Washington juggernautNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- As angry voters spark a barrage of energy bills in Congress, the oil industry is spending record amounts of money protecting its interests. In what may be surprising to some, the most recent figures from the Center for Responsive Politics show that the oil industry gives a relatively small sum to individual political campaigns - it's

From: Are Children Sounding the Global-Warming Alarm? One theory came to mind the other day when I was looking over a list of the most profitable worldwide movie releases of 2006. No. 1 on the list was Ice Age 2: The Meltdown, an animated — and apocalyptic — kids' movie, which took in just over $1 billion at the box office. And as you can see here, the animated kids' movie Happy Feet has

By Dave, the WMChristianity lauds itself as the panacea for the world’s woes, but Christianity’s approach to rescuing poor humanity is riddled with degradation. Before offering its “so great a salvation” Christianity first condemns, denigrates, and belittles people into believing they are vile creatures, wearing the filthy rags of a pointless existence. Self-confident non-Christians are redefined as “haughty and arrogant.” Sincere human compassion that is bereft of evangelical rhetoric is labeled as “selfishly motivated” and incapable of real or lasting good. Difficult circumstances and obstacles in a person’s life is seen as part of primordial curses put on creation by an unconditionally loving god. What can you, a pathetic sinner, do to overcome the problems in your li

Okay. I know. I come to you with hat in hand, asking for mercy. I missed my blog yesterday. But, do you know how hard it is to rig up an Internet connection in an Amish barn that only has a rotary phone? I'm not McGyver, you know.Today, I am in the lovely hamlet (township? village?) of Perkasie, Pennsylvania. I had a blog in mind yesterday, which is basically this one that is complaining about being stuck in an Amish barn, desperately trying to get the Internet to dial up on a 50-year-old rotary phone (because sometimes the Amish will allow electricity in the barn but certainly NOT in the house), while being eyed up as a juicy "English" prize for a young buck named Zebulon... but I guess typing all of that in one long sentence pretty much gets the idea across. You're welcome.I suppose if the NaBloPoMo powers-that-be want to disqualify me for being at the mercy of cheese and furniture makers yesterday, well, then so be it. However, please keep in mind that I did think of THIS
In Boston, they're once again blaming the inanimate object. Michael Graham reports that officials in Beantown are blaming the gun for the death of a pizza store owner, not the murderous thug who actually did the killing. Graham says the "desire to condemn inanimate objects is a bit, well, weird." He's right, but I'd go one step further. By placing blame on the inanimate object, rather than focusing on the killer, politicians further erode our nation's moral code. Giving the impression that...(read more)
F1 underdogs Super Aguri look to be cutting about a quarter of their 120-strong team, according to a report in their local newspaper the Oxford Mail.
The Leafield-based team and its drivers, Anthony Davidson and Takuma Sato, punched above their weight during the 2007 season despite a financial squeeze that saw founder Aguri Suzuki searching for new investment.
These job cuts come despite his announcement of new backers late in the season, and rumours of payment from Honda for giving driving time during the recent Barcelona tests to developmental talents Mike Conway, Andreas Zuber and Luca Filippi.
The lost jobs are coming from departments across the team. Spokeswoman Emma Bearpark told the Mail that it was hoped many of the staff would find jobs elsewhere in F1 or with engine suppliers Honda during the next month while the redundancy process runs its course.
She said: “We have said all year we are a small team. We are beginning our third year now and all year we have said we requ
If you don't subscribe to the Washington Post, consider yourself lucky. This paper is arguably one of the most anti-gun in the country, and will use any story they can as an excuse to go after American gun owners and manufacturers. The most recent example is a story blaming smuggled guns from the U.S. for gang- and drug-related killings in Mexico. Among the whoppers in this article are claims that fully automatic machine guns, grenades and grenade launchers are being sold to Mexican smugglers at...(read more)
From allAfrica.com with some spelling edits by me for good measure and better English:
As Muslims all over the world celebrate Eid-ul-fitr, commonly known as Koriteh, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan, President Yahya Jammeh, has called on the Islamic Ummah to be steadfast, bold and united in the spirit of Islam to condemn any form of attack on the Islamic religion.
President Jammeh made this statement at State House, Banjul, when Muslim leaders in and around Banjul, paid their usual courtesy call on him. He revealed that out of one hundred people, who die every day, ninety-nine percent of them are Muslims. He raised concern that in the 21st century, Islam is being fought by very powerful enemies. He then noted that instead of Muslims being united, they are made to fight against each other.
Well, at least Jammeh explains who is killing all those Muslims: other Muslims.
Jammeh said “there is what is called fight against terror.” Yes, it is true that terror mus
The drumbeat is beginning again. Can you hear it? Every day, we're seeing more and more columnists and politicians trying to blame violent crime on us, the law-abiding gun owners. In New Jersey, where an illegal alien who was out on bail for child rape and assault allegedly killed three people and injured another, writers like Bob Braun are pointing the finger not at the criminals who commit these heinous acts, but at you and me. He recently wrote in the Newark Star-Ledger: "We still debate...(read more)
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Vince Young looked downright rusty. The 2006 Offensive Rookie of the Year slipped to the ground, threw passes short and high and lost the ball on a bungled handoff. Being benched for the Tennessee Titans’ exhibition opener must be a little to blame, right? Not according to coach Jeff Fisher. He credits lots of rain and a blitz-heavy defensive plan by the New England Patriots for how Young and the first-team offense struggled in a 27-24 victory Friday night. “I more…
We've already informed you that identifying Lou Piniella's hysterics as the impetus for the Cubs' turnaround is stupid. Also stupid: crediting the loss of Michael Barrett, and the subsequent addition of his inferior replacements, instead. But Jacob Luft of CNNSI has gone and done it anyway. The Cubs are no strangers to curses, having dealt with the wrath of an exiled billygoat for the past six decades. But now it looks like they have found another ballclub to share in the misery, if not take the burden off their shoulders altogether. The transfer of the curse -- if you believe in such silly notions -- took place on June 20, when Chicago traded catcher Michael Barrett, who had spent the better part of the past two seasons auditioning for the All-Ruffian team, to the San Diego Padres for backup catcher Rob Bowen and outfield prospect Kyler Burke.I'll just go right ahead and say it: I don't believe in such silly notions. These were the records of both teams after games played on June 19
A report blaming an earthquake for a 2006 mud volcano eruption in Indonesia stoked a dispute on Tuesday about whether a gas drilling well or geology caused the disaster that engulfed thousands of homes.Scientists say they may never find the exact trigger for the continuing eruption of noxious-smelling mud from the ground in East Java that has engulfed an area four times the size of Monaco and forced about 15,000 people to leave.Lapindo disputes that its drilling was the trigger. "The available data supports the hypothesis that the initial activity ... was mainly triggered by the energy released by the 27th of May earthquake and not by the drilling," according to report by a team of scientists based in Norway, Russia, France and Indonesia. The study, accepted for publication in the journal Earth and Planetary Science Letters, says the earthquake centered about 280 km (170 miles) away jolted faults under the island that ended up releasing pressure in deep rocks and spewed out the mud. I’m getting very tired of listening to ‘moderate’ Christians taking shots at atheists like Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris for the tone in which they write. It has become a popular pastime to criticize because they take a hard line with religious belief and for the vociferous way they have gone on the offensive. For years the atheist has had to sit back and listen to the non coherent ramblings and downright balderdash that religious zealots have used, not to defend their irrational beliefs, but to spread hate and animosity in the name of their God. It seems no one has been spared from this hostility. Whether you’re gay or one that values the scientific method, you know that the religious right will be standing guard, silver crosses around their necks, Bibles in hand and hypocrisy on their lips shouting “fire, brimstone and death” to those who fail to conform to their 1st century philosophy.
If one wants to find a target to denunciate, then religious
If you've been wondering why gasoline prices have been so high lately with crude oil trading at only $66 per barrel, the answer can be found at the refineries. This week's TWIP (This Week in Petroleum) from the Energy Information Administration has some interesting commentary and, as always, abundant charts to tell the story of how retail gasoline prices have fallen for the second consecutive week, down five cents to $3.16 per gallon. First, it should be clear that this is not an oil problem. U.S. oil inventories, the biggest raw material cost for gasoline (duh!) have been at or above the range considered normal for this time of year. There is no oil problem - that will occur sometime in the future, maybe soon, we'll see. Yet, prices at the pump remain near record highs, particularly here on the West Coast where special formulation requirements and higher taxes almost always result in higher prices. Lucky us - at least there's no big brown cloud hanging over the Western U.S. (e

Johanna was SO not motivated this am. I told her to go brush her teeth and 10 minutes later she still hadn't done it. 5 minutes before that I told her to get her shoes. She hadn't done that either.Talking to my neighbor at school this am, her girls are having the same kind of day.Quite frankly, so am I! LOLI took J to school and ran to the store. So we did that.I get home, and I am greeted by Dottie. Now, I realize that being greeted by your dog is not THAT unusual, but this means that I had forgotten to lock her in her crate.Dottie is locked in her crate while we are out because Dottie likes to go food sampling in the Kitchen. So I do a quick scan of the kitchen on my way to let the dogs outside and happily note that everything seems ok, aside from the bag of chips on the floor. I think they just fell down.Let the dogs out, and hear a noise. A noise t
