Sarah Jessica Parker is sad to see New York lose its individuality - insisting many areas have been stripped of their everyday charm and replaced by swanky bars and restaurants.

Somehow, it is not a surprise to discover yet another holiday that started in the church. I hate days that are designated to do things a person should do on their own.If you love your mother, you would have been honoring her any day. If you hate your mother, then this day is nothing but a grind, usually trying to deal with a woman you can't stand.Basically, this all started because this Anna Jarvis was arrogant enough to think all family situations were just as happy as hers. Although it would be funny to discover whether Anna Jarvis had a dysfunctional relationship with her mother and that she created this day out of some masochistic self-punishment for genuinely thinking bad thoughts about her mother.Behind any holiday is wealthy of dysfunction and mindless tradition, which people refuse

“So who - or what - is to blame for what’s being called the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression? Strangely it’s all tied back to not only derivatives… but also the currency markets. Or more specifically, the carry trade.” — Jack Crooks

I just got home from the city today. As I walked the overpass I can't help (and who wouldn't?) but notice two of the many street children laying down on the cold tiled floor. These street children are either sleeping or am looking at every passers-by with a pitiful look on their greasy or dirt-covered faces with arms extending and at the end a small disposable plastic cup.A grabbed photo taken by Mommybug29 in her stay in the Philippines back in 2007.I hope I didn't lose all my sense of "being merciful" because every time I see these street children I don't feel any (mercy). Why? Because almost everytime I go to the city all I see is these children's faces depending on the amount given to them by sympathetic passers-by. Makes me want to talk to them and say "Where are your parents? Why are

Daniel Finkelstein points to a video made by the extremist Palestinian militia Hamas, proving once again the depths of their anti-Semitism.It claims the Holocaust was perpetrated by the Jews in order to purge them of disabled and mentally ill individuals and win international sympathy. Thus, Israel would be created off the back of this sympathy and would also be full of strong healthy Jews.Repulsive.
No matter what the Israelis or Americans or Europeans attempt to do, there will not be peace with the "palestinians". Every attempt has been made to appease these murderers yet they are never content. They could've had their own country by now yet the continue to want more. By more I mean they want Israel gone. They want the land that Israel sits on.

If you've passed by the Melray's parking lot on Ridge Road in North Arlington, you've no doubt noticed, especially at night, that there aren't any lights in the place. In fact, around Christmas time, a portable gas-generated flood light was placed outside the lot so it could be used for nighttime parking during the serious shopping season. And, and the last Borough Council Meeting, residents questioned the governing body as to why the lights haven't been installed.Well, according to a strong piece this week on NA Today, it's former Planning Board Chairman and current Councilman Joseph Bianchi's agreement with Melray's -- an air-rights agreement -- that led to the lack of lights. (Read the NA Today piece for more information on what an air-rights agreement is).NA Today goes so far as to say
FROM THE POST:May 1, 2008 -- Alex Rodriguez admitted it was a mistake trying to play last weekend in Cleveland with a right quadriceps injury. His penalty for that miscalculation is 15 days on the disabled list starting last night. "The curse of being a good healer is I thought I was ready in three days," said Rodriguez, who first sustained the injury in Baltimore. "I made it worse. But if you ask me if I could play tonight, I'll go out there tonight. I'll play until I'm dead." Rodriguez has a Grade 2 strain, but is confident he'll be activated in two weeks. He blames nobody but himself for his situation. "I wanted to play," he said before the Yanks' 6-2 loss to the Tigers. "I begged to get in there. The team had nothing to do with it. They gave me every chance to get out of there."

I guess that Ibrahim Al-Ghaith, president of the Saudi Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, forgot that the Western media get all that negative news about the behavior of mutawween from the Saudi press. Like the Arab News, the Saudi Gazette, Okaz, Al-Hayat and others. The good news is the commission is establishing a press office to field inquiries. The bad news is that its promise a couple years ago for a kinder and gentler commission has failed miserably. So whining about the messenger doesn't hold much water. There's a reason why the mutawween are universally loathed by Saudis and expats. They can be just plain nasty and mean. In one word.Devotion....But maybe that isn't so accurate. Maybe it is despair or even fear that pushes me towards what I'm trying to achieve. Maybe it's the fear of being nothing. Scared to blend in with the blurred surroundings. My life is moving fast. Maybe too fast. At such high speeds...the inertia keeps me restrained. The inertia...keeps me in my place while I'm being proprelled further through an atmosphere that I do not yet understand. The invisible forces play to my weaknesses and strengths, they do not seek a solid definition. They are they cuz they have always been, and they always will be, and we can never stop them. But what is it I'm really speaking of? We blame "them" for the simple fact that we have no one to point the finger at...and they keep it that way. We blame "them" s

There is no shortage of food; it's just the prices that are making food unaffordable.Bernanke's "weak dollar" policy has ignited a wave of speculation in commodities which is pushing prices into the stratosphere. The UN is calling the global food crisis it a "silent tsunami", but its more like a flood; the world is awash in increasingly worthless dollars that are making food and raw materials more expensive. Foreign central banks and investors presently hold $6 trillion in dollars and dollar-backed assets, so when the dollar starts to slide, the pain radiates through entire economies. The US is exporting its inflation by cheapening its currency. Now a field worker in Haiti who earns $2 a day, and spends all of that to feed his family, has to earn twice that amount or eat half as much.Food

If you're currently blaming biofuels for the rise in food prices there's good news and bad news. First the good news. You're right. The bad news is you're mostly wrong. Over at the NY Times Roger Cohen points to the major culprits involved in higher food prices... Hundreds of millions of people have moved from poverty into the global economy over the past decade in Asia. They’re eating twice a day, instead of once, and propelling rapid urbanization. Their demand for food staples and once unthinkable luxuries like meat is pushing up prices. At the same time, the rising price of commodities over the past year has largely tracked the declining parity of the beleaguered dollar. Rice prices have shot up in dollar terms, far less against the euro. Countries like China are offloading depreciati

As I expected the girl appeared on the TV show saying that she was sorry regretting what she had done and that she did not expect it would go this far. I know it is shocking but let's agree something ; she is not an actual activist nor political leader , she is a simple Egyptian girl who spent couple of weeks in a nightmare in jail , I will not dare to guess what happened to her there or what kind of pressure was practiced upon her or what kind of blackmail she and her family suffered from in order to be free from j

The most consistent rationale for ISPs to throttle p2p applications or charge by the byte is that a small minority of users drain a vastly disproportionate amount of bandwidth, like the planet-raping aliens in Independence Day. Om Malik pulls a few of these numbers out of Arbor Networks' CTO, who develops all the traffic management tools your ISP probably uses, so while there's a conflict of interest (portents of internet doom sell more stuff) they have the data. Ten percent of subscribers consume 80 percent of bandwidth, a super-leeching 0.5 percent swallow 40 percent of bandwidth, and the rest like your mom, 80 percent, sip less than 10 percent. But p2p isn't the culprit. No, p2p is no longer the single biggest traffic whore, responsible for only 20 percent of total traffic. It's streamin

Recently I've been seeing more blame for the housing & mortgage crisis laid at the feet of the Bush Administration's relentless focus on increasing homeownership rates with a type of USSR-type attitude of "The ends justifies the means" that ignored potential consequences. According to a story at MSNBC, the primary culprit of that policy was departing HUD chief Alphonso Jackson:In late 2006, as economists warned of an imminent housing market collapse, housing Secretary Alphonso Jackson repeatedly insisted that the mounting wave of mortgage failures was a short-term "correction."He pushed for legislation that would make it easier for federally backed lenders to make mortgage loans to risky borrowers who put less money down. He issued a rule that was criticized by law enforcement authori

Critics say Greenspan, under whom U.S. rates went from 6.5 percent in late 2000 to 1 percent in mid-2003, eased policy too much and then took too long to tighten again. That, they say, spurred excessive mortgage borrowing and stoked the housing bubble that is now the root cause of the credit crisis. But Greenspan said the Fed cut rates to spur growth and prevent deflation and, at that time, dissenting votes on the policy committee were from those who wanted rates even lower. Analysts also blame Greenspan for failing to press for stricter rules for bank lending to consumers with weaker credit records, and for not anticipating the subprime mortgage meltdown. "I was praised for things I didn't do," Greenspan told the newspaper. "I am now being blamed for things that I didn't do." &nbs

In a poll published in today’s LA Times Hamas would win presidential elections for the Palestinian Authority. Support for Hamas amongst the Palestinian population has been massively rising over the last few months. The same poll quoted in the above article had Fatah comfortably beating Hamas just last December.
The result, can be seen as a massive failure of US policy as this administration has undermined moderate Palestinians by expecting them to show restraint in the face of overwhelming Israeli pressure. This has made the Fatah party look impotent and ineffective. The great advantage that Fatah had before was that it had the at least nominal support of the US. There is a strong link between overweight mothers and overweight children. However, new research has shown that women who are too fat when pregnant are probably not physically “programming” their children to be fat.
The developmental overnutrition hypothesis posits that if a woman is overweight during pregnancy, the higher levels of sugar and fatty acids in her blood will affect the developing fetus, predisposing the child to poor appetite control and a slower metabolism.
However, a study of more than 4,000 families found no evidence for this. However, it did find that if a child became overweight by age 9 or 11, the mother was more likely to have been overweight or obese than the father.

The US is very shortly staring at $4 per gallon gas in its near future. Oil was at $108 a barrel today and given that those are 55 gallon barrels that is nearly $2 per gallon...for crude oil! The $1 Trillion Question is, Why?What has changed in 24 months in order to send oil from $50 to over $100? Is it demand? Nope, demand is rising 10%+ and will probably slow down to very low growth due to consumers driving less. Has OPEC turned off the spicket? Nope. There have been fluxes, but for the most part...no. Iraq and Venezuela have been an issue, but not enough to cut supply by half. Which is what it would take to double the price (at least in a linear fashion). This report from WTRG shows more great slides to review for yourself. From the report: The U.S. petroleum industry's price has been

Self-blame and self-criticism can seriously undermine weight loss efforts. Here are some of the reasons why they are building a case that you want to avoid: 1 Even debt breeds shame. Shame is the feeling that it is to isolate. If we believe, shame, we feel bad, and we want to be invisible. apparently I confused all you nice people with my cryptic title. I'm a bit under the weather this evening and all systems are not a GO. My great grandparents or great great? came over here from Sweden. It runs all through my family. I hear they are know for their mad bread-making skills. Maybe that's an over generalization? Who knows.
Isaiah got the flu late last night.... he came upstairs and said, he felt sick, and asked if he could have a bowl. He is so much easier, because unlike the other boys who just throw up where ever they are, Isaiah can aim. Even so, Tim got up and took care of him all night... he's a good daddy!I can't help but think Tim & Elijah are next... even though I really hope they don't get it. *************************I don't talk about Tim's job here on the blawg very often, because it's a job that provides for our family, and we are thankful. However, through a series of circumstances it has become increasingly obvious that it may be time to look for a new job. I am usually pretty good at keeping my mouth shut when Tim is treated unfairly. (like on Christmas Eve when Tim's boss called hi

Tortured Patsies To Take Fall For 9/11
After half a dozen years of waterboarding, genital zapping, sleep deprivation and brainwashing, the Pentagon has finally found six patsies who will readily welcome their 72 virgins and take the fall for 9/11, providing debunkers with ample ammunition to dismiss questions about the gaping hole
For the past year now I have seen so much finger pointing on who we should blame for the real estate market issues. I have been wanting to write an article about this for a long time now but Sharon Simms blog post at -we-have-the is what really inspired me to take the time to write out my thoughts. Sharon’s post and many of the replies were very honest and inspiring. So here is my take on it.BLAME BUYERSI truly think buyers should be responsible for their own actions. Did you really think you could hold onto and afford a $500,000 home on a $50,000 salary and no down payment? It doesn’t take rocket science to see that this was going to happen with buyers that got funded for these loans. Sure they were enticed with interest only, no down payment, arm loans but any buyer that took
Almost half 42% of British teens say people who do not use condoms are irresponsible, four out of ten say its too risky not to, and only 2.5% of Britain’s 13 – 17 year olds think it’s cool not to use condoms. Yet many don’t bother to use protection when having sex. So why are teens today not protecting themselves? Not thinking about the consequences of unprotected sex is named as the number one reason why half of all 13 to 17 year olds in Britain don’t use condoms. Excuse number two is the lack of availability of condoms at late night parties, in fact 48% of young people have today revealed that not being able to access condoms whilst staying out until the small hours of the morning prevents them from having safer sex.In third place, 46% of teens say that as the night hots up and
The ancient Greeks, Romans and Egyptians were all aware of the health dangers of asbestos. It seems strange that the asbestos industry in many parts of the world chose to ignore the risks. Even if the ancient wisdom had been lost, insurance companies were refusing to insure asbestos workers, or charging higher premiums for them by the 1920's. 50 Years later some companies in the asbestos industry were still doing nothing to protect their workers. To be fair, the workers themselves had the same access to information as the companies, so must also take responsibility for their actions in deciding to work in a dangerous industry. In many respects that decision was similar to the decision that many people still take on a daily basis today - to smoke a cigarette. The apparent benefit of tak
I’m little late to write about Tata’s small car (people’s car) NANO. You’ve seen it already, read about it in detail in newspaper and other media, bloggers have contributed their part by blogging about it. While everyone appreciated Ratan Tata’s efforts in making dream come true for millions of middle class families, they also raised serious concern that soon we’ll run out of space on our roads
Mere months after Canine Rabies has been declared defeated in America, the Canadians have to crash the Rabies Epidemic After-Party.Officials believe at least 60 people came into contact with a rabid dog on Jan. 3. The infected puppy was being held with 10 to 12 other dogs. They have all been sold and health officials believe they have all been infected with rabies. At least three different breeds are involved. The infected puppy and one other dog in the group have died, Susan Sperling, spokesperson with Toronto Public Health confirmed to CTV.ca....Officials are looking for three border collies, one yorkie cross, a maltese and an unknown breed. And what could be worse for a Border Collie, famed for their unsurpassed gray matter, than to be infected with Rabies? Not much. And what's with the
Nigel Stepney, the former Ferrari engineer at the heart of last year's Formula One spying controversy, has said he takes no blame for what happened to McLaren. The Mercedes-powered team were fined $100 million and stripped of all their 2007 constructors' points for having Ferrari information, leaked by Stepney to McLaren chief designer Mike Coughlan.Stepney, who remains the subject of a criminal investigation in Italy, was dismissed by Ferrari while McLaren suspended Coughlan."I don't feel responsible in any way at all for what happened at McLaren," Stepney told Sky Sports' World Motorsports programme in excerpts made available before being broadcast later on Monday."My original (plan), or my ideas were to make contact with somebody but not to benefit, it was to talk about and see what I co
Posted by Dave Methvin,
Yesterday I had a brief oh-that-would-explain-it moment when I read Windows Server 2008 Behind ‘Slow’ Microsoft.com. I spend a lot of time on Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s sites, and they have been horribly slow the past few months. But after further investigation, I don’t think the problem is Windows Server 2008. Or, at [...]
AoT investigation uncovers irregularities Airports of Thailand's (AoT) investigation committee has found six groups of people were involved in irregularities in the awarding of a contract to King Power Suvarnabhumi Co to run commercial space at Suvarnabhumi airport. The investigation team has confirmed that King Power Suvarnabhumi, a firm under King Power International Group, acquired the commercial space contract from AoT without undergoing scrutiny required under the Public-Private Joint Venture Act. The law requires in-depth scrutiny of every state project worth one billion baht or more. AoT board spokesman Chirmsak Pinthong said AoT will inform the company in writing that the contract is
Lose a few pounds. Find a new job. Get promoted. Travel. Save more money. No matter what age you are, chances are that at some point you've made a New Year's resolution. Whether you kept it or not is a different story entirely. But new information from a study by psychologists at the University of Hertfordshire reveal that whether you actually stick to them may come down to your gender.According to a story on Fox21 News about the study, men were more likely to keep resolutions if they were broken down into more manageable goals. For example, instead of "I want to win the Boston Marathon", men need more "I want to run for half an hour three times a week", at least at the start. With more realistic goals in place, the study admits, men are much more likely to meet their resolutions. And what
Here's another report about a pedestrian being struck by a car while crossing an intersection in the early morning hours in Seattle.
If you recall, there was some reports about the increase of pedestrian-auto accidents during daylight saving time. The theory being that when daylight saving time goes into effect, it is much darker outside in the morning hours. Thus, more pedestrians are struck by motorists who cannot adequately see the person when it is so dark out. See also Wikipedia's report on daylight saving time and the increase of pedestrian accidents.
The Washington State Department of Transportation warns:
During this period of dark, rainy and foggy conditions, drivers are reminded to watch for pedestrians along school bus routes, intersections and transit stops

It is amazing that Alan Greenspan keeps denying that he had anything to do with creating the Real Estate bubble in the US. The Fed cut rates down to 1% and injected lots of money into the system helping fuel the bubble. On top of that, the Fed did nothing to stop lenders from handing money out to anybody with a pulse. You have people without jobs buying houses with no money down and negative amortization mortgages. We are all now paying the price for all these ridiculous exotic mortgages.
AP via USA Today reports:
Greenspan again rejected criticism that his policy actions helped feed a housing boom that eventually went bust. Critics say Greenspan fed the boom by holding interest rates too low for too long after the 2001 recession.
To have prevented such euphoria in housing that fed a bubble in prices, Greenspan said the Fed would have had to jack up interest rates so high that it would have damaged the economy. “That would have broken the back of the economy, and brought the hou
