Credit where it’s due. I may have fired some shots at the Boks for their whining in the wake of their Wellington defeat, but they came out and did their loudest talking on the field at Carisbrook on Saturday night, and in the process showed why they’re deserved world champions.
Springboks blow Tri Nations wide open

The All Blacks lack of depth in crucial positions was exposed by a ruthless South African outfit on Saturday night as the visitors scored a thrilling and historic 30-28 Tri-Nations victory at Carisbrook, Dunedin.
In their eighth visit to the rugby relic, the Springboks picked up their first...

The All Black selectors have made two changes to their side for this Saturdays second Test against the Springboks, in Dunedin. The most obvious change sees Anthony Boric get his first run-on start, due to the one week suspension of Brad Thorn for slamming John Smit on his back.Boric has had very little game time so far - the only decent time he's had was fifty or so minutes against England when Ali
Wallabies face tough Tri Nations competition

The All Blacks have taken first blood in this years Tri Nations, grinding out a hard fought 19-8 win over the Springboks in Wellington.Once again Wellington turned on the wet conditions, which meant a greasy surface and plenty of handling errors by both sides.Despite the slippery ball, both sides tried to play an open game, with a lot of tactical kicking. Even Ali Williams joined in on it.Dan Cart
This Saturday's Test between the All Blacks and the current World Champs, South Africa, is one you don't want to miss. The Springboks are in great form (have been since the World Cup, actually) and are bolstered by the return of John Smit, who has been playing in Europe.Normally, the All Blacks would be heavy favourites, especially in New Zealand - the Springboks don't usually travel well - but it'

The All Blacks have moved to 3-0 for the year, as they once again demolished the English defence on their way to a convincing 44-12 win.It was a much stronger effort than the week before, and while there are still a few things to work on, they're at least moving in the right direction with the Tri Nations opener only two weeks away. But the win didn't come without a heavy price. This guy is apparently some sort of part-time columnist for the Milwaukee Sentinel Journal in my home town of Milwaukee Wisconsin. He made a comment i am not sure about.I was reading this little article in the paper and ran across this quote concerning alicia Keyes being at summer fest here in Milwaukee. The article was about how blacks feel about their government. "if a star of her status and skin tone can make statements like that, what do rank and file black people think?" What do that mean? I hope you mean cause she is mixed. Are you saying that as a black man of the lighter skinned persuasion i am not a rank and file black person? It seems that that is what you mean, and i am offended. I am a black man no more no less.I understand the whole house nigger thing but i have never really g
Considering recent legislation in favor of reparations to blacks from corporations that have profited from financing slavery like JP Morgan Chase, Aetna and others, do you agree or disagree that modern African Americans deserve an apology for the wrongs committed against their ancestors during the slave trade in America? Would you consider what happened to the slaves and those 6 million or more that were lost in the Atlantic during the Diaspora a genocide?

The Houston Law Review will soon publish a new study that offers the first conclusive evidence that convicted defendants' race affects their sentencing. From the NY Times:
[The study] has found two sorts of racial disparities in the administration of the death penalty there, one commonplace and one surprising.
The unexceptional finding is that defendants who kill whites are more likely to be sentenced to death than those who kill blacks. More than 20 studies around the nation have come to similar conclusions.
But the new study also detected a more straightforward disparity. It found that the race of the defendant by itself plays a major role in explaining who is sentenced to death.
You would think this study would serve as sufficient grounds for abolishing the death penalty. After all, th

When i watched the news this morning and saw the story about police cruisers using their cars to ram suspected wrong doers of color i nearly got a tear in my eye. Not because of how surprising the cop car dash camera footage was, i have seen this tactic dozens of times in real life. I have experienced police attitudes so many times and expect i will until the day i die, so it's really no big thing. What was a big thing is that now it can be seen by those who think (wrongly) that every black defendant or "runner" on television deserves what they get. I know how it looks from an outside perspective to someone who knows little if nothing about being poor and black in America.I can hear a hundred voices asking the obvious question, "why run if you are not guilty?" And the best answer i can giv

TheValuesVoter, the author of the post which I critiqued a while back, has posted several comments on this blog. One is the series of statistics I had mentioned in that critique. These stats continue to uphold my assertion that black people in America find themselves in the situations that cause people to want abortions more frequently than whites or other groups do. This accounts, I would argue, for the imbalance in abortion rates between communities - not some plan to slow the growth of the black population or some ill-defined idea of 'coercion' that TVV sometimes talks about. I'd like to take an opportunity to talk about another of TVV's posts on the subject, one comparing the unacknowledged personhood of slaves to the unacknowledged personhood of fetuses/embryos/whatever word you w

The pontiff’s six-day visit to the United States was his first At a time when the United States is engaged in a series of candid, and sometimes explosive, discussions about race, Pope Benedict XVI reminded America that it has a ways to go before honoring its promise to Blacks and Native Americans. “Americans have always been a people of hope,” Benedict said during the celebration of Mass Thursday at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. “Your ancestors came to this country with the experience of finding new freedom and opportunity. I found this little something-or-other via Real Clear Politics under the title "How Obama lets us down on abortion" or somesuch. The real name of the article is "The Impact of Abortion on African Americans". It is, quite simply, a black-solidarity call to oppose abortion. Unabashedly pro-life, it does not descent into moralistic shouting which means that the statements made in it can be legitimately critiqued.A quote will give a bit of the tenor of the article:Although African Americans make up 12.4 percent of the U.S. population we make up 35% of the abortionsNote the 'we'. The article has black solidarity and unity running constantly through it. The reasons given to oppose abortion are not conservative or morality-based, though I do detect a certain abortion-is-murder mentality to t

I’ve written about apologies before, but watching Sen. Barack Obama being forced to apologize for, to renounce, and to denounce Rev. Jeremiah Wright just reminds me of all the times I’ve been at work and have watched Black coworkers be forced to apologize for something in order to appease Whites.Yes, Rev. Wright’s comments were outrageous. But, I’ve heard far more prominent White men of God make equally outrageous and offensive comments about the cause of Sept. 11th. For instance, that it was God’s punishment of America for “tolerating” homosexuals. But, there wasn’t this amount of palpable outrage and so-called umbrage being declared by members of the media. We all know there are double standards. In politics, when it comes to being White or Black, it’s amazing how far th

Since Blogger is sucking right now, and not allowing anyone to upload new layouts while simultaneously refusing to provide technical support on the matter, I haven't been blogging much the past couple of days.I thoroughly expected the blogosphere to pick up on this story, but I guess they've been too focussed on Obama's fabrications, and Chelsea Clinton. Shockingly enough, the story isn't even a most read on Fox News' website. Why? I don't know, but I am remedying the situation now.Cornell University has released a controversial study that will accomplish literally nothing more than sowing more discontent among the races, and serve as yet another recruiting tool for white supremacist groups. So let's all pat Cornell on the back, and bask in the racially charged anti-glory that is their
From AFPWASHINGTON (AFP) — US mortgage lenders targeted minorities and people with low incomes in recent years as the "best candidates" for subprime home loans, with devastating economic consequences, a report claimed Tuesday. The report by the United for a Fair Economy (UFE) advocacy group said subprime mortgages, home loans issued to Americans with scant finances, were "ruthlessly hawked" and that a "solid majority of subprime loan recipients were people of color."Hundreds of thousands of families lost their homes to foreclosure last year after failing to keep up with mortgage payments, a hefty chunk of which were subprime loans, amid a national housing downturn that shows no sign of easing. Some economists believe the almost two-year-long housing slump could pitch the world's largest ec
A new national poll of over 1,100 African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asians shows that almost half of the Hispanics and Asians said they are "generally afraid of Blacks because they [Black people] are responsible for most of the crime" Forty-four percent of Hispanics and 47% of Asians agreed with that statement! That's not really shocking. We know that Blacks have historically been played as the villains and criminals of American society. This includes historic stereotyping through a variety of media formats, as well as through word-of-mouth stereotyping and racism that is passed on through many American families—including recent immigrant families. It is commonplace for Blacks to be portrayed as criminals. We've even seen Black criminals used in presidential campaigns (Willie Horton anyone?).With this poll we see proof (through admission) that historic racism against Blacks has crossed over to other minority groups. What's troubling is that we're talking about groups of pe

An American scientist, James Watson, has issued an apology, stating, "I am mortified about what has happened…more importantly, I cannot understand how I could have said what I am quoted as having said… To all those who have drawn the inference from my words that Africa, as a continent, is somehow genetically inferior, I can only apologize unreservedly. That is not what I meant. More importantly from my point of view, there is no scientific basis for such a belief."Well, what did Mr. Watson say?The trouble began after the Sunday Times Magazine of London quoted Mr. Watson, a molecular biologist, as saying that he's "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours — whereas all the testing says not really."While he hopes everyone is equal, Mr. Watson also says, "people who have to deal with black employees find this is not true."Oh, really?!Mr. Watson, 79, is chancellor of the prestig

Wayne Smith said their pain was made worse by the fact that the New Zealand public were hurting too:

“I don’t feel no ways tired. I come too far from where I started from. Nobody told me that the road would be easy. A wise man once said "Some days you're eating steak, some days you're eating shit." I’ve a feeling that wise man was Henry Rollins, but I also have a feeling that the rim-job smile I've been sporting lately speaks volumes about my diet. Speaking of my diet, let me preface this entry by saying that the absolute worst thing about having a drunken degenerate gambler for a brother is not the fact that he's a drunkard, a degenerate or a compulsive gambler. It's the fact that whenever he does something really stupid or irresponsible, he'll try to deflect some of the fallout onto you. The conversation with my mother goes a little something like this..."Roy (as that's my brother's name)! I can't believe you blew all your weekly wages in a drunken stupor on those damn pokie machines!""Oh yeah? Well, well... Uh... Jon fries all his foods with butter! Remember that genetic cholesterol condition he's got, Mum? Let's talk about Jon and his butter addiction for a while (thus deflecting
The All Blacks know that they are the most important favorites to win the trophy, and yesterday afternoon the supporters proved it at the Old Port of Marseille.Indeed, after a weekend break on the island of Corsica, the New Zealand squad received the rugby equivalent of a royal welcome in the shape of not only the Mayor of Marseille, Jean-Claude Gaudin, but also Bernard Lapasset, the president of the French Union and organising committee.A really big crowd had watched the All Blacks train in Ajacio, Corsica, on Saturday and some 2,000 or so crowded onto the quayside outside the city hall yesterday. Each player was given a tournament cap by the Marseille dignitaries and then the squad posed for promotional photographs alongside a giant postcard of the port.Even the normally unmoved Graham Henry, the head coach, was surprised at the reception. "The Marseille people have come out and welcomed us, overwhelming really. The boys know they are at the World Cup now," he said."Perhaps, after th

Our favourite boys, the mighty All Blacks, are heading off to win the Rugby World Cup in France. They jet out of Auckland tonight, all fired up to bring the cup back home after a twenty year drought. This’ll be the year, for sure. Team coach Graham Henry and Captain Richie McCaw will depart with the squad to Corsica, before heading on to Marseille, their first World Cup base in France. Training begins immediately for the team, with their World Cup 2007 debut against Italy on the 8th of September.

As Democrats seek to solidify their support among America's Black voters, and Senators Clinton and Obama in particular, attempt to strike up the band to win these votes, increasingly the question is being asked of them: Are you black enough? That question was posed to Hillary recently at a convention of Black journalists by CNN anchor, Suzannne Malveaux, acting as moderator of the event. But should she have added "If Blacks are pillars of the party, and somehow stuck in place--can they look to see issues on their agenda addressed? Will they continue to be taken for granted? And who wins their support?Facing an audience of over one thousand strong, Clinton was clearly surprised by the question. She however, chuckled lightly, and in what may be described as a Clintonista avoided a direct answer, saying " I am thrilled to be running at a time when, on this stage you see an African American man, a Hispanic man and a woman.
