The Bishop of BlackburnA RELIGIOUS leader has called on voters in this May's local elections to reject political parties that spread racial hatred. The Bishop of Blackburn, the Rt Rev Nicholas Reade, has made the rallying cry against extremism in a letter to the county's Anglican churches, which will be published this weekend. The Rt Rev Reade urged voters not to be duped by far right parties which he claims have altered their image to hide the fact they are still pedalling racial prejudice. He said: "I must urge the strongest possible rejection of the divisive policies of far-right political factions. "They may have fine-tuned their outward image, but their ideas remain the gutter politics of racial hatred. "The policies which such parties advance provide a blueprint for everything that C

I'm very happy with it apart from a couple of small silly errors that I'd made - very minor ones like forgetting to change the font on the back page so it doesn't match the title page. So once I've put them right I'll make it available for those who have emailed to say they would like to buy a copy.so - if you'd like one - watch this space :>)I can definitely recommend blurb. The one thing I don't particularly like is the payment system - a bit like imagekind, where they don't pay out until a certain sum is reached. Blurb are fairer though, they pay monthly (for anyone interested) but don't pay until the money owed to the author is over £12.50 and they charge a £3 admin fee for sending it. That's £3 for

Arsenal went five points clear of Manchester United at the top of the Premier League table after defeating a hard working Blackburn Rovers side. The win also ensured that the Gunners have goal differential equal to that of Manchester United. Mark Hughes' Rovers failure to win any points saw them slip down to 9th falling behind Portsmouth, who beat Bolton on Saturday.Arsenal won an early lead through Phillipe Senderos after a corner from Eduardo, but an inspired performance from Blackburn keeper Brad Friedel kept the Rovers in the game for the majority of 90 minutes. However, Blackburn could not grab a goal back. A late strike from in-form forward Emmanuel Adebayor guaranteed three points for the Gunners in second half stoppage time.Lineups:Arsenal: Jens Lehman; Bacary Sagna, William Gallas
Arsene Wenger may try to call Kolo Toure from Africa for today game with Blackburn at Emirates stadium. Eleven players can't play in this match: Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue are in Africa on international duty. Tomas Rosicky, Denilson, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby, Phillipe Senderos, Johan Djourou, Robin van Persie all they have different kind of injuries, Manuel Almunia is sick. If Toure don't come back for this game, as central defender can play Gilberto Silva or Justin Hoyte .
Mark Hughes' Blackburn Rovers travel to the Emirates this Monday to face off against league leaders Arsenal. Blackburn, who are currently in 8th place in the Premier League, have already faced Arsenal twice this season, taking two points off of the Gunners in a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park, and losing 2-3 at home after taking a Carling Cup tie into extra time.Arsenal's recent form is impeccable, with the Gunners having scored three goals in each of their last four Premier League matches. Arsene Wenger's squad has responded very well to a 5-1 Carling Cup loss to arch-rivals Tottenham, winning their next three matches in a row.Blackburn, on the other hand, have not won in their last three games, instead drawing against Everton, Aston Villa, and Middlesbrough. With injuries to defender Andre Ooijer
First and foremost - what a fantastic result. Many teams will go to Ewood Park and struggle. Many will be lucky to go there and get a victory. Even our first team only got a draw there this season. Ok, the victory came after extra time but considering our second string have knocked out another full strength Premier League side is magnificent. Last year it was Tottenham, this year it was Newcastle and now Blackburn. We rode our luck, but you must expect this with such an inexperienced side, but we also played some sublime football.
Each goal was a moment of beauty in itself. The first came after some neat build up play and Diaby put away Bendtner's inviting cross. Eduardo then finished off moves ending with two perfect through balls. I know Samba missed the ball through from Denilson, but the weight and direction was still perfectly into the striker's path. We did look shaky at the back afte
Arsenal’s kids had a night to remember as they booked a Carling Cup semi-final berth after a thrilling 3-2 extra-time win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Abou Diaby opened the scoring in just the 6th minute, volleying home cleverly from a Nicklas Bendtner cross and Arsenal were 2-0 up within half an hour when Eduardo da Silva punished Christopher Samba’s failed attempt to cut out Denilson’s through pass.
Blackburn pulled one back just before the break when Roque Santa-Cruz fired in Matt Derbyshire’s cross and the home side pulled level on 60 minutes when the Paraguayan striker scored again, this time heading home David Bentley’s free-kick.
There were plenty of chances but no more goals in the last half-hour of normal time, but Blackburn received a huge boost going into the extra period when Denilson was sent off for a reckless two-footed challenge on David Dunn in second-half injury time. But despite the setback Arsenal again went ahead in the first
Ten-man Arsenal defeated Blackburn 3-2 in extra time, after a tense 120 minutes at Ewood Park. The Gunners gained an early lead thanks to Abou Diaby and Eduardo, but Blackburn came back through a Roque Santa Cruz brace. Neves Denilson was sent off during second half stoppage time, but Arsenal's youngsters showed great character as Eduardo bagged his second during the first half of extra time to propel the Gunners to victory after a titanic clash.Arsenal will now have to face either Tottenham, Everton, or the winner of Chelsea and Liverpool as Arsene Wenger's fringe players try to reach the finals of the competition for the second year running.Lineups:Blackburn: Brad Friedel; Ryan Nelsen, Christopher Samba, Steven Warnock, Steven Reid; David Bentley, David Dunn, Morten Gamst Pederson, Robbie Savage; Matt Derbyshire, Roque Santa CruzArsenal: Lukasz Fabianski; Justin Hoyte, Alex Song, Philippe Senderos, Armand Traore; Neves Denilson, Lassana Diarra, Abou Diaby, Mark Randall ;Nicklas Ben
So, Blackburn away - never a nice trip to make. A 1-1 draw this season was far less than we deserved but also more than we have got there in recent visits. Last season we went out in the FA Cup to a late Benni McCarthy strike after, in my view, Wenger underestimated Blackburn. He went with an understrengthed side that seemed to lack a cutting edge and we were duly dumped out of the cup. Tomorrow a similarly understrengthed team will walk out in the freezing cold at Ewood Park.
As we have seen in previous years Wenger has gone with a reserve side in the Carling Cup. This team has had two brilliant results: a 2-0 victory against a strong Newcastle side and a comprehensive 3-0 win up North at Sheffield United. These results give me confidence that this side can give Blackburn a real tough game, but will it be enough? Mark Hughes will go with his first team and it will be a really hard game for the Young Guns to win. The
Arsene Wenger will continue to blood his youngsters in the Carling Cup, even against the tough opposition of Blackburn. The Arsenal coach feels that playing a young squad will not only increase the experience of Arsenal's fringe players, but also allow the Gunners' senior squad a chance to rest during period congested with fixtures."The Carling Cup is more of a squad game, because we decided as a squad to go for every single trophy. Many players that didn't play against Chelsea will play at Blackburn on Tuesday night," the coach told Arsenal.com"My expectation is to qualify and go into the semi-finals, because we want to come back as well as we did last year and as well it is a good opportunity for my squad to show how strong the players who didn't play against Chelsea are."I believe in them, and it is good (for the fringe players) to show me 'we knock at the door and we want to play in the first team'."We use the competition for our players to grow up - but not only to grow up.
Only two days after defeating Chelsea in the Premier League Arsenal travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn in the Carling Cup quarterfinals. The team is likely to be hugely different from the near-full-strength squad that beat the blues to keep Arsenal on top of the Premier League, as Arsene Wenger always tries to field his kids during cup ties.Robin van Persie is the only player who featured on Sunday that I see as likely to play on Tuesday, and the striker is only likely to play at Ewood because he is struggling to recover match fitness after a long spell on the sidelines due to injury.Lukasz Fabianksi will probably start in goal, behind a young defense of Justin Hoyte, Philippe Senderos, Alex Song, and Armand Traore. In midfield, Neves Denilson, Abou Diaby, Lassana Diarra, and Theo Walcott are the most obvious choices, although after Diarra's declaration that he will leave the club I'm not sure if I'd put him in, even for a Carling Cup game.Up front I would like to see Robin van Pe
After a scathing report on Ronaldo the previous game, he decided to bring his A-game today. A brace in a space of 2 minutes by the Portuguese maestro, in the first half settled the game.I caught this game with Kentona over at Cow's place and I was completely knocked out by the time I reached home. Hence this late report.Blackburn gave a really good account of themselves, and were probably one of the toughest opponents we've faced at OT this season. Their form and record against the other top 3 opponents spoke for itself. The game was pretty even with both sides coming close to scoring. But it was Ronaldo who scored twice in as many minutes, to put United in front. The first was a beautifully placed header from a Giggs corner in the 34th min. The second came shortly after when Tevez found Ronaldo on a counter attack.Early in the second half, Blackburn were reduced to 10 men. Kentona, Cow and myself were expecting another round of goals, but it didn't materialize. Sparky's team had in

MyPa's last matches results are really bad, I think Blackburn Rovers will beat them again but with more than one goal scored this time. Even if the odds are not very high (for Blackburn), it's a good match for betting without taking high risks and it's always good to win a bet ! Dunn thinks Blackburn aren’t thugs
With the Arsenal players preparing for their midweek international fixtures there has been a shortage of any big news surrounding the club at the moment. However, Blackburn midfielder David Dunn - who is unsurprisingly not preparing for international duty - did find time to criticise the comments made by Arsene Wenger about the Northern club being overly violent.

The observations about Blackburn’s style of play may not be far off the mark; it’s physical, it’s not pretty to watch. To read the reaction to Sunday’s game, you would think that they had taken to the pitch with machetes, guns and other weapons of their choice. The truth is though it was frustration at our performance. Their style of play suits them. It is not pretty, it is not popular and is punished when outside of the rules. It does not bring them trophies nor does it bring full houses to Ewood Park every home game as a lot of other Premiership teams play to. It is however something we have to live with and find a way to overcome. We have done so regularly in the past; the reputation Arsenal currently have is that the players do not ‘like it up ‘em‘ so against a technically inferior team, as they admit, that is a style of play that we have to strive to overcome.
The failing on Sunday though was that having shown them we were up for the physi
Well….before we get into actual football matters can I just say Mark Hughes and his team are a bunch of filthy b*stards.
Blackburn should be ashamed that they turned a game of football into such a fight.
Blackburn fans enjoy your season as I wouldn’t pay a penny to watch a team like that at home games. There has to be some underground fighting in Town that will cost half the price of a football ticket if that’s what interests you….
I’m very proud of our Boys despite the result and another howler by Lehmann. I don’t think some of our players were ready just yet like Eduardo but we had little choice but to start him I suppose. Well done the lads! We didn’t get pushed around and we played the game
Blackburn’s way but came away with a lot of positives. We dominated the first half. Second half we struggled but this is down to us not playing natural game but still think we were very unlucky to concede in the end.
Wenger had the following to say after the game:
Blackburn 1-1 Arsenal Match Report
Arsenal and Blackburn played out an entertaining and intense 1-1 draw at Ewood Park on Sunday afternoon. Arsenal took a 18th minute lead after Robin van Persie smashed home a loose ball in the penalty area but were denied three points after another awful mistake by their goalkeeper Jens Lehmann. Blackburn midfielder David Dunn fired in a fizzing effort from outside the area and even though the shot was hit straight at Lehmann he could only help the ball into the net. It was the German goalkeeper’s second error in as many Premier League matches and denied Arsenal the chance to win the incredibly physical match.

Two games, Two mistakes, Two goals conceded. This time around Jens Lehmann won't be the happiest man in the dressing room after the game. In a very physical affair at Ewood Park, Jens Lehmann's mistake meant that we have dropped points for the first time this season after Robin Van Persie put us ahead.Arsene Wenger reverted to a 4-4-2 after injuries to Rosicky and Eboue. Hleb moved to the left and Walcott on the right. New signing Eduardo teamed up with Robin Van Persie upfront. Blackburn put out a very attacking lineup, but it was soon clear what their intentions were. Right from the kick-off, the Blackburn players tried to rough up our players. And no prizes for guessing who was at his bloody best doing that. Robbie Savage. Mark Hughes may speak on and on about how his team is misunderstood and harshly treated by the referees, but these sort of showing by his team proves nothing but the fact the he loves kicking teams around. And thats exactly why Robbie Savage is in the team. That
