About a quarter of so-called “biological” medicines approved in the United States and Europe since 1995 have triggered safety warnings in the years after they entered the market. The safety warnings included alerts regarding immune system disorders, infusion reactions, infections and cancer concerns.

Every artistic endeavour of man is a symbol to communicate the deep feelings and emotions that are beyond ordinary speech. Thus, art is purely communication at the deepest and most lasting level. My parents have a creeping water primrose (Ludwigia peploides) problem in their pond, which is impossible to control. Pesticidal and mechanical removals are expensive and have been employed with no luck. Mechanical removal can lead to fragmentation that can cause the waterweed to spread to other aquatic environments.I believe a better alternative is biological pest control, which is cheaper, a natural solution and is usually more effective. However, the availability of biological controls can be sparse or seemingly nonexistent for some invasive species.Although it seems that creeping water primrose is unpalatable to grass carp I introduced some sterile grass carp in desperation to possibly alleviate a very deplorable situation since creeping water primrose is possibly the worst invasive

The best way of treating acne scars is to start early and continue for as long as is necessary. There are, however, a number of treatments available when suffering from scar formation. The idea behind biological acne scarring treatment is that old, damaged tissues and scars are replaced by new cells. Some topical treatments contain ingredients that start this chain of events. These treatments focus on the creation of healthy skin cells instead of aggravating the body´s inflammatory immune system response. The natural ingredients can saturate deep into the skin and promote cellular turnover. Damaged tissues and acne scars are diffused into their own amino acid components and released back into the body as the basis of new cellular growth. One step in the healing process involves an enzyme

I believe that it's only a matter of time until we create technological teleportation. Or perhaps the Bermuda Triangle already employs technology to this effect, and we simply need to reverse-engineer it. But can a human being teleport without the aid of technology? In the new film "Jumper," genetic abnormalities produce teleportation in humans, and some other people swear to kill off the teleporters. How can a human teleport? Must they bend reality? Do they use their consciousness to tap into a higher level of power and talent? Maybe there's a universal web of power that most people simple don't have access to. Like the Force, but different...
I stumbled upon an article today regarding addiction, an area of study that has been of interest for many years. The research conducted at Indiana University examined the possibility that structural changes in the amygdala may be responsible for the co-morbidity of addiction and mental illness. Those who are familiar with addiction or have worked with addicts know just how often this combination occurs. The study compared the behaviour of adult rats that had both undergone surgery on their amygdala during infancy. One group had their amydalas damaged while the control group’s amygdalas were left intact. The control group experienced a type of mock surgery.Interestingly, those that grew up with damaged amygdalas showed more response to novel stimuli, less fear to elevated mazes, continued

I think death is an evolved trait that allows limited resources to be allocated to the youngest, newest generations. This way, reproduction is encouraged in order to propagate the species, and genetic diversity can increase. As diversity increases, the chances the species will survive unforeseen cataclysms increases.Older people wither away and die to make room for the younger generation. But I think this process is outdated. I believe our technology has enabled us to provide enough resources for everybody. I think if nobody ever died, we'd still find the means to support the global society. If death had a spiritual motivation as well, for instance in that it would allow someone to reach a higher state of awareness, then surely that purpose would make itself known if ever death is conquered.
When I met my friend today he had a belated birthday present for me, finally It was a book by one of the most famous restaurant critics in Holland, so for today we decided to pick some place from the places he has reviewed. When one place gets a good mark from this critic it’s very good for business. Downside was he had put only three lunch reviews in the book and two of them we already knew, so the choice was simple, Gartine in the Taksteeg. But where is the Taksteeg we both wondered. Well the review said it was close to Spui, so off to Spui we were. After extensive looking and asking two policemen we found the Taksteeg. It’s a small street between Kalverstraat and the Rokin.
The place was worth the search though. Gartine is a small place and luckily there was a place free. We quickly took it and had a look at the menu. A very friendly man, who runs the place with either his wife or his sister we guessed later, came to our table and asked what we wanted to drink. I took t
If the life most people live is the best we can expect to get out of our biology, then bionics and other means of human enhancement seem to be not bad at all. But if every human being on earth has the potential to become some sort of Ascended Master, a glowing, healing, transcended being who has unlocked the same secrets Jesus was born knowing, then maybe bionics aren't the answer. What if we never reach our biological peak because we go cyborg too soon? On the other hand, maybe biogenetic technological implants could actually help us to maximize our potential in the purely biological realm. You don't often hear in mainstream news about people ascending, but if it truly is possible, I'd like to learn more about it and the implications of infusing biology with technology.
Embedded medical and biological application refers to the use of technology and computers for observing certain events or generating a response when certain events occur. ‘Embedded’ points to the fact that such devices are either small or very passive, or both, such that the subjects of the observations are not continuously aware of it.

For those women and couples who are very concerned about their biological clock, there is the option of egg freezing. I always thought it was very sci-fi and not an option for right now. However, it turns out that many women are opting for it and it may be a viable option. Here is an interesting article from the Boston Globe about how women are freezing their eggs so that they can have babies later in life and the risks associated with it. The link to the article is http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/05/06/a_new_fertility_gamble_for_women/?page=2.A new fertility gamble for womenLimits are found to egg freezingBy Carey Goldberg, Globe Staff | May 6, 2007Ziva Cohen, a law school admissions officer in Manhattan, has noticed a change in her single friends' girl talk lately: As 40th birthdays approach, and the prospects of marriage remain unclear, some are starting to focus -- a lot -- on the idea of having their eggs frozen to fend off the relentless pressure of the biol
Halle Berry has been seen shopping for $1000 worth of baby gear, sparking rumours she is pregnant. The actress reportedly spent over an hour browsing at trendy LA store Bel-Bambini, coming away with, amongst other thing, a kimono tee made with soybean fibres and a Swarovski crystal-encrusted hotlips pacifier. Halle, 40, who’s dating model Gabriel Aubrey, 31, has made no secret of the fact she’s longing for a baby.
“Having children is my next big project,” she’s revealed. “I’m planning on becoming pregnant by the end of the year - it’s my age, it’s only natural.” And, according to website TMZ, she’d also be happy to consider adoption. “If it can’t happen naturally,” she says, “Gabriel and I will adopt.”
Why adopt when you can just have a baby with ME? I’m sure Gabriel won’t mind ;-) He won’t have a choice gagged, tied up, and locked in a garage in a remote undisclosed locati

The interactions in the network are tightly regulated and they take place with high specificity. Nucleic acids form a variety of functional structures from junctions to quadruplexes. Certain sequences can assume multiple structures with distinct functional roles, triggered by interactions with proteins, ligand binding or small environmental perturbations. We have a strong interest in deciphering the molecular basis of such interactions by novel comp
Have you heard that biological change can happen due to warming temperature or global warming? I am talking into general term on just on specific area of biological change. Taking for example, plants and animals.
How will you explain if weeds are growing fast that can survive in this kind of excessive heat or temperature. You see land totally drought, breaking because of water shortage but still there are weeds growing into it. Look into the scenario of the past, have ever see that kind of weed? Let us not talk on specific country but on the place you are in.
Let us see how biological change on plants by studying their reproduction method. I am not a biologist nor a scientist dealing with this kind of things. I do only observe what is going on in our environment. Talking about plants, would think the plant reproduction will be affected by this warming? I say yes, they also will have to catch up to their changing environment.
I will try to have some information on this biological change
I think I have reached that point in my life, that I NEVER thought I would reach. My biological clock is ticking.LOUDLY!I'm 33 and I have what I thought would be my only child. In fact I believe I have mentioned it no less than 1000 times that I am only having one child. I've told everyone within spitting distance that I will under no circumstances have another child. So, why is it that I have been going through the past week or so looking at other babies like I could eat them for dinner? I've picked out names even!Alexa for a girlMadden for a boy (although that is a little undecided because I keep thinking of John Madden of football, whom I really detest)Is this my biological clock? Is this what women talk about? I pick up every baby within reach, even if I don't really know them. Yes, other mother's are running in fear from me. I've basically kidnapped my friends baby for like an hour in the park because I couldn't bear to be without him, lol.Someone talk me out of this QUICK!

As James Madison famously said, "if men were angels, no government would be necessary," (Federalist #51). The founding father also said, in Federalist #10, that "No man is allowed to be a judge in his own cause, because his interest would certainly bias his judgment, and, not improbably, corrupt his integrity." And to think Madison wrote all this before the discovery of modern genetics and the advent of evolutionary biology. Why are those two disciplines relevant? Unless you are a creationist, you must acknowledge that mankind is the result of billions of years of evolution. And the singular quality of all those billions and billions and billions of creatures that stayed alive long enough to reproduce is selfishness--the biological imperative to wrest from the environment the resources necessary for survival. That imperative is still with us today to some degree. Certainly the selfish impulse varies from individual to individual (just as other traits vary genetically from individual to
Russian scientist Ken Alibek was perplexed. He couldn't understand why there wasn't an outcry about Cuba's biological-weapons threat.
Alibek is on solid ground. In the 1980s, he taught Cuban scientists much of what they know about weapons of mass destruction. ''This work was to be used for developing biological weapons or biological agents,'' he told me in his suburban-Washington office. ``As a result, we helped Fidel Castro create biological weapons. It was such a stupid decision.''
In his book, Biohazard, Alibek says that against the advice of many Soviet scientists, then-Premier Leonid Brezhnev gave the technology to Cuba, after meeting with an enthusiastic Castro in 1981. '' Within a few years,'' Alibek writes, ``Cuba had one of the most sophisticated genetic engineering labs in the world, capable of the kind of advanced weapons research we were doing on our own.''
The inventor of one of the most deadly strains of anthrax, Alibek defected to the United States 10 yea
The former head of Cuba’s military medical services says the communist government is stockpiling biological warfare agents like the plague, botulism and yellow fever at a secret underground lab near Havana.
Roberto Ortega ran the Cuban military’s medical services from 1984 to 1994 and defected to the U.S. in 2003. He said he told the CIA nearly two years ago about the secret Cuban facility, and is speaking publicly now because he did not see the CIA take action on his information and wants international inspections of the lab.
The Cubans "can develop viruses and bacteria and dangerous sicknesses that are currently unknown and difficult to diagnose,” Ortega told the Miami Herald. "They don’t need missiles or troops, they need four agents, like the people from al-Qaida or the Taliban, who contaminate water, air conditioning or heating systems.”
According to Ortega, Cuba was prepared to use the biological weapons "to blackmail the United States in case of an international incid

The study of networks has expanded rapidly over the last 10 years; networks are now widely recognized not only as outcomes of complex interactions, but as key determinants of structure, function, and dynamics in systems that span the biological, physical, and social sciences [1-4]. The "new science of networks" has introduced novel paradigms of systems behavior, including small-world structure [6], scale-free networks [7], and the importance of modularity [8] and motifs [9]. Some of these ideas have been transplanted into biology, and the results thus far are mixed but promising. Certainly, the study of biological networks has brought new opportunities for publication, yet much effort has been placed at discovering particular patterns in unexpected places-e.g., scale-free distributions in
Connect one pendulum to another with a spring, and in time the motions of the two swinging levers will become coordinated. This behavior of coupled oscillators - long a fascination of physicists and mathematicians - also can help biologists seeking to understand such questions as why some locations overflow with plants and animals while others are bereft, University of Michigan theoretical ecologist John Vandermeer (website) maintains.
In the cover article for the December issue of the journal BioScience, Vandermeer summarizes theoretical work he has done over the past decade, leading to his conclusion that ecologists seeking to understand complex interactions in nature should pay closer attention to coupled oscillations.
The basic idea of oscillating populations is not new to ecology.
'We know that any predator-prey system, say lions and zebras for example, shows oscillations,' said Vandermeer, who is the Margaret Davis Collegiate Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. 'If t

(Jeffrey H. Schwartz and Bruno Maresca's ideas appear consistent with a proposed testable 'Model of an Internal Evolutionary Mechanism' based on an extension to homeostasis - see [2])Summary: Jeffrey H. Schwartz's most recent article, "Critique of Molecular Systematics," is the next step towards a counter evolutionary theory that takes a critical look at the theory of cellular and molecular change.Pittsburgh - Jeffrey H. Schwartz, University of Pittsburgh professor of anthropology in the School of Arts and Sciences, is working to debunk a major tenet of Darwinian evolution. Schwartz believes that evolutionary changes occur suddenly as opposed to the Darwinian model of evolution, which is characterized by gradual and constant change. Among other scientific observations, gaps in the fossil record could bolster Schwartz's theory because, for Schwartz, there is no "missing link."In an examination that further challenges the Darwinian model, Schwartz and cowriter Bruno Maresca, a profe
