As I was going through the podcast stats this morning, I noticed that my podcast You Are The Guest was getting pounded today by requests.
The reason: We were featured in a story about Bill Richardson in The Huffington Post.

Writing in his 2000 book titled, "Stickin': The Case for Loyalty," James Carville, political sycophant for the Clintons, claims that his out spoken ways have caused him to be called a court jester, clown, comedian, serpent head, gamecock, slimy little worm, hatchet man, attack master, and bottom feeder.
New Mexico Governor Responds To The Clintons- Gutter Politics -Asked about James Carville's comments, as reported in the New York Times Saturday, that Richardson's endorsement of Barack Obama was comparable to "when Judas sold out [Jesus] for 30 pieces of silver," an angry Richardson told Wallace, "I'm not going to get in the gutter like that."Then he followed with a blistering attack on the Clinton's inner circle."And you know, that's typical of many of the people around Senator Clinton. They think they have a sense of entitlement to the presidency."He also said both campaigns have been too negative, but then slammed Clinton's campaign.Read Article... Democrat Richardson Politics
There is so much chaos going around today's news cycle, I found it difficult to synthesize all of it for you. I could have posted five different posts today, but I figured I would just throw it all together and let you figure out what to do with it; I certainly couldn't.
First, James Carville, one of the Clintons' greatest allies just declared that Bill Richardson's endorsement of Barack Obama...

"I believe that Western states and Eastern states have not been talking to each other when it comes to proper use of our water resources...States like Wisconsin are awash in water." And how did Wisconsin respond? Essentially by saying "Take it, Bill" by screwing up on the Great Lakes Compact.
Yes!! Finally Bill Richardson up his mind. He has decided to endorse Barack Obama. Since he had ended his campaign Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton had many conversations with Bill Richardson in order to try to secure his endorsement. I am one of those people that thinks his endorsement is significant, but since he did it this late in the game I think the value of his endorsement has diminished. It's better late than never though. I believe the reason why Bill Richardson did it at this time was to avoid being called a "Kingmaker". We all know he served in the Clinton administration and has a very solid relationship with them. What better to make a good friendship go sour than to deal the crushing blow of Hillary Clinton's dreams by sending her back to Chappaqua, NY as a U.S. Senator and no

An endorsement by New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, the most senior Hispanic politician in the United States, today gave a a major boost to beleaguered Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.Whilst the endorsement would have been infinitely more valuable three weeks ago (before Texas and its sizable Hispanic population went to the polls), Obama will nonetheless be hugely grateful for such a show of support at a time when he is attempting to recover from the fallout from the first major scandal of his political career, caused by the airing on US televsion of racially charged sermons by his pastor, the Rev Jeremiah Wright. The language used by Richardson in his endorsement speech was significant :“My great affection and admiration for Senator Clinton and President Bill Clinton w
The Democratic Freedom Caucus has endorsed Bill Richardson. Following is their statement:
The Democratic Freedom Caucus (DFC) endorses Democratic candidate Bill Richardson for president.
The DFC is a caucus in the Democratic Party, and promotes the values the Democratic Party was founded upon: individual liberty, constitutional democracy, and social responsibility.
As Democrats, we see that the Republican Party has strayed far from any respect for individual freedom, or any sense of realistic, practical policies, so we recommend voting in the general election for whichever Democratic candidate wins the primary, but we are convinced that New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson is the candidate who would best represent the Democratic Party in the presidential election.
Richardson's campaign platform connects with many of the basic principles of the DFC, whose policy views emphasize: promoting the public interest rather than special interests; introducing incentives and customer choice for
This weekend, the news was that Presidential candidate Bill Richardson was demanding answers about the Roswell incident of decades past. Now a judge wants information released about an incident that happened outside of Pittsburgh. First, the lowdown on Richardson from Weasel Zippers:ROUND ROCK, Texas — If he wins his bid for the White House, Democratic presidential candidate Bill Richardson may be just the man to get to the bottom of the 60-year-old Roswell UFO mystery.Answering questions at a townhall meeting Friday, a Dell employee asked Richardson about the 1947 incident in which many people still believe a flying saucer landed near the eastern New Mexico town."I've been in government a long time, I've been in the cabinet, I've been in the Congress and I've always felt that the government doesn't tell the truth as much as it should on a lot of issues," said Richardson, who is governor of New Mexico."When I was in Congress I said (to the) Department of Defense ... More than any presidential candidate, Bill Richardson is running on his plan for Iraq. His is the most detailed, the most well supported, and the most hyped. Quite frankly, when compared to every candidate besides Joe Biden, Richardson’s plan comes off as the most concrete and therefore the most compelling. Richardson avoids the overly vague promises and empty rhetoric of other candidates. While his plan is refreshing, is it a progressive plan?
As outlined here, a progressive plan for Iraq adheres to these four assertions:
The Iraq War was a mistake.
Our presence in Iraq is making things worse, not better.
Iraq is a political problem, and it requires a political solution.
Our goal in Iraq should not be to “win,” but to leave responsibly.
By reading any policy proposal through this lens, one can conclude that it represents a progressive worldview. Bill Richardson’s plan largely satisfies the progressive test. However, like the presidential plans from Joe Biden and Bara

It appears that my views of the candidates are shared by a majority when Zogby conducted a poll on acceptance of each candidate. People were asked which candidate they would definitely not vote for. Bill Richardson did best in terms of least number saying they would not vote for him, followed by Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Chris Dodd. (Richardson, Obama, and Dodd are the three candidates I’ve been most interested in.) Clinton has the most negatives on this list, which does differ from my ranking. I started out following the campaign with an “anybody but Clinton” attitude which has been replaced by “anybody but Edwards, but preferably not Clinton.”
On the Republican side, not surprisingly Ron Paul is the least acceptable. Mike Huckabee is most acceptable, leaving both parties with long shots as most acceptable candidate.
From an essay at Huffington Post by Bill Richardson:
Two days ago the Senate had a chance to help get more of our soldiers home for longer periods of time — but the measure failed. Yesterday they had a chance to set a timeline to start withdrawing troops — but that failed too. And today, another measure that would’ve required a withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq failed. Three chances to make a difference, lost. But instead of continuing to push on the most important issue facing our country right now, yesterday Congress spent their time debating and condemning a newspaper ad by an anti-war group.
Let’s get some perspective here — ads don’t kill people — wars kill people. And it is long past time to end this war.
"Iowa, for good reason, for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord should be the first caucus and primary." So sayeth Bill Richardson, who is apparently reading a different Constitution, and a different Bible, than I have readily at hand. Doesn't seem to me (an atheist) that God has anything to do with Iowa coming first.Iowa Democrats at a union-sponsored event in Sioux City were decidedly confused and put-off by this remark from Governor Richardson. The most positive response from prospective voters was "Richardson has the saving grace of not taking himself too seriously. It was one of those off the cuff remarks that can't be taken as seriously as the punsters will make it." But even if he was making a joke, why would he make a joke at the expense of Iowa in Iowa?A misstep, no matter how you look at it, and one that seems to have left would-be supporters feeling negative about him.

Add Politcal Insider as the latest site to recognize that if we look at the big picture, as opposed to national polls, Bill Richardson is becoming the number three candidate in the race. I certainly wouldn’t write off John Edwards any more than I wrote off John Kerry when he trailed Al Sharpton in the national polls in 2003, but at the moment Edwards’s prospects are looking quite poor. Political Insider writes:
Gov. Bill Richardson is on the move in the leadoff primary and caucus states, and if the trend continues, he will soon supplant John Edwards as the number three candidate in the Democratic race. While the RCP Average has Richardson at just 3.7% nationally, and Edwards at 11.4%, Richardson is rising in Iowa (11.0%), New Hampshire (9.3%), and Nevada (6.0%). In New Hampshire he is just three points behind Edwards, and actually pulled ahead of him in a July CNN poll.
Richardson is gaining because of basic retail politics. The man who holds the Guinness Book world record
Well, Beth was working this morning, so I was left to my own devices. After taking the recycling to the local recycling center, I popped into Shirley's Restaurant in Claremont for a Bill Richardson "Meet and Greet", which I knew from the local paper was scheduled for this morning. The owner of the restaurant, Dan Fillo, was quoted in the paper as having said, "We've been told by the campaign not to expect a question and answer format. He's probably just going to come in and speak, giving a brief 10- or 15-minute speech about his platforms."So I was quite pleasantly surprised when after giving his talk, Richardson did open the floor to questions. In my last blog post, I mentioned that Beth got in the last question from the floor at our session with John McCain. I didn't say anything about what she asked him, however. So here I'll mention that she asked him about Darfur. We were both bothered that it took until she got in (right under the wire) for Darfur to be mentioned. McCain did
Bill Richardson is the governor of New Mexico. He is also running for President of the United States. He won't win, but he probably has every right to hold the position. Maybe he'd make a good Vice President, and then he could be my neighbor. Couldn't be any worse than Dick Cheney. Dude lets his shrubs get out of control, and didn't even send regrets to my block party invitation.
Bill Richardson should be the next Democratic presidential nominee. I wonder if the Dems will pull their heads out of their asses in time.I mean what are Obama, Hillary and Edwards going to say, "Well, I voted on this bill but it was was vetoed by the President?" or "Well, I occasionally have sex with a former president."Give me a break. I will be watching Bill's campaign closely.
OK, he’s two for two. He makes me laugh. Plus it turns out he did a lot of stuff. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to also check out the ad he ran during his last gubernatorial campaign.
The Seminal subscribes to many email lists as part of our effort to stay abreast of both left and right-wing candidate’s viewpoints, plans and activities. The letter below came from the Bill Richardson for President Exploratory Committee, and may be of interest to some of our readers.
Dear Seminal,
Congress has the power to end this war. They authorized the invasion of Iraq under the War Powers Act and they can now de-authorize it and bring the troops home.
De-authorization can’t be vetoed. The President won’t listen to the American people, and he won’t listen to Congress — together we can show him that being stubborn isn’t a foreign policy.
For several months, I have been calling for de-authorizing this war and leaving no residual troops because I believe that this is is the best approach to ending the violence.
But many Americans don’t even know that de-authorization is an option. They know the proposals coming out of Washington don’t

As Larry has posted, it looks as if New Mexico Democratic Governor Bill Richardson is finally ready to take his first steps down the Presidential campaign trail - although Hillary Clinton's announcement may have derailed any plans he might have had for a similar announcement of his own this weekend. He still has some time. Albuquerque NBC affiliate KOBTV said at the end of last week that Richardson would announce some time between last Tuesday (the 16th) and the end of January, which isn't for another eleven days yet. The Obama/Hillary fuss will surely die down soon, leaving Richardson a little space to make his announcement and actually have some chance of it be noticed. In the meantime, Richardson can keep his profile up by commenting on the major issues of the day. His recent call in South Carolina for a start to the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq is one example (reported by AP on KOBTV). His support for a ban on cockfighting is, just possibly, another (reported by AP in the
The affable New Mexico governor and second-tier (so far) Democratic presidential hopeful stopped by our Editorial Board Wednesday for an on-the-record chat with both Ed Board members and some news-side reporters. Early on, he mentioned he was going to get U.S. troops out of Iraq. How are you going to get us out of Iraq? This is what I would do. It's clear, but it'll take a little while. 1) I would get us out of Iraq this calendar year. Without fail. When, I would let our military people decide that. But I would set a deadline determined by our military. Number two, I would at the same time put it to the Maliki government that you've got to do three things: 1) You've got to convene a reconciliation conference of the three ethnic groups -- the Shia, the Sunni, Kurds -- and you develop a power transition of cabinet ministries, civil administration, and you use the leverage of a withdrawl to achieve that. I would then convene a Persian Gulf Middle East peace conference that wo
I'm glad to see BR continues to support medical marijauna. I think that doing so shows compassion. MM has been approved in enough states, and rates pretty highly in polls, that it won't affect BR's chances at getting elected Prez. If anything, maybe it will help him stand out from the crowd. -- MC-----------------------------------------------------------------From the Santa Fe New Mexican, Feb. 8, 2007:"[New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson's office] spokesman Gilbert Gallegos e-mailed [reporter Steve Terrell] saying, "The Governor continues to support a medical marijuana bill with property safeguards, and he will work to get it passed."Then on Wednesday, the Governor's Office sent out a news release quoting Richardson saying, "I will work with legislators to get it passed this session to provide this option for New Mexicans suffering from debilitating diseases."This quickly was followed by e-mails from advocates."We are grateful that the governor continues to support the bi
By Steve Terrell | The New MexicanFebruary 22, 2007 CARSON CITY, Nev. -- He didn't seem to get as much applause as two of the frontrunners for the Democratic presidential nomination, U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York and former U.S. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina. And he didn't get as many laughs as former U.S. Sen. Mike Gravel of Alaska. But New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson got a good reaction from a union audience Wednesday at the first presidential candidate forum of the early starting 2008 election cycle.Richardson, who is working to break out of the second tier of Democratic candidates, perhaps was under more pressure to connect with Nevada Democrats than the other candidates. As a governor of a nearby Western state, he has to make a strong showing in next January's Nevada caucus to be considered a serious contender."I've got to do well (in Nevada)," Richardson told a room full of reporters immediately after his appearance at the forum, which was shown live on cable
