OMG! I am so embarrassed. I didn't go to work today for personal reasons that only women over the age of 30 can understand, which was not a problem but there's more to the story...I'm not supposed to report to work until 9:00 a.m., well I got up at 7:30 this morning and decided I'm not going to work. Hawthorne's bilingual program, where 200 students are taught in Spanish for half the school day and in English the other half, is one of only two of its kind in Kentucky.The other is at Maxwell Elementary in Lexington.Since adopting the programs, both schools have seen their test scores increase dramatically."When we first started it, people were afraid that the students wouldn't do well," Hawthorne teacher Flora Martinez said.
