      Biking in China
Here I am in Suzhou, China in 1988. And I wore white sneakers, white pants and a white jacket, can you say total foreigner? My mother's cousin to my right hosted us in his beautiful city and lent me his family's best bicycle. We felt bad about taking rickshaws everywhere so we offered to bike with them. Our relatives were all used to biking everywhere as none of them owned a car, but they were concerned whether we'd be able to handle biking in China. Hey, I've biked in the streets of Boston, MA and Oakland, CA, how bad can it be? But still they only took us on the shortest of bike rides in their picturesque city. Here is a typical street scene. A few weeks later we went up to Beijing, and we offered to bike again. Now biking in Beijing is a totally different story. It is more

      Mountain Biking Today!!
I went with Jeff today to Powhite Park for a nice ride today. We meat at 2.0pm and started on the trails. It was a windy day at 85 degrees and sunny! We had a good ride and rode 4.5 miles, not really hardcore today just getting in a good cardio work-out! Powhite is really hilly, not many lat trails and they are in really good shape given all the rain that we had in the last 9 weeks. Some of the obstacles have been taken out due to they want the trails to be more hiker friendly because of the condos that are being built next to the park. In my opinion, they could have cut a trail to the side of the obstacle and let it in. We will see what happens to the park after all the people move in.Laters...What is your opinion?Blogroll Me!Subscribe to my Posts... Blogroll Me!

Snow on the ground, I'd rather be biking...
It is winter in New England and the snow has covered the ground, then rain fell upon the snow and the beautiful looking snow is a thick hard mass of evil. The snow is so hard and the weather has been so cold that we have gotten thick ice all over the driveway and walkways. The dogs cannot even walk anywhere because it is so cold and hard and sharp and dangerous. So I've started to think about the summer and long for the beach. A time when I can get back out on the water in my kayak or cruising the bike path on my bike. What I'd really like to be able to do is cruise along the bike path on a beach cruiser bike. The one s that I would love to have are either the 26" Man Deluxe Thick Frame Beach Cruiser - Blue or the 26" Man Deluxe All Black Beach Cruiser to use to cruise along the beaches of Cape Cod.I would also like to be able to use some cruiser bikes at my in-laws in Florida. Thats why mountain bike clothing is designed specifically to meet the demands of this sport. If youre a beginner or just an occasional mountain biker then a pair of comfortable tracksuit bottoms, a long sleeved t-shirt and the obligatory helmet will suffice. You might also want to put some gloves on to protect your hands. If youre a regular mountain biker however, it might be worth investing in some proper cycling gear. Mountain Biking History

They are a great means of transport for getting to and from work, you can fit your shopping into the baskets available to attach to the front, and they provide a wonderful way to travel when on holiday and exploring different areas. People have always ridden off road as well as on it, but the history of mountain biking really begins more than thirty years ago, in the 1970s. Modern bike designs have made the sport more accessible to more people, and the history of mountain biking certainly shows it is now even more popular than ever. But although mountain biking is now enjoyed all over the world, it began life in California, America. A group of cycle enthusiasts decided to try out some downhill runs on bikes that would now seem antiquated to many of us. The dirt tracks were much the same as many mountain bike race courses today, but the bikes have changed considerably over the intervening years. Those races became famous

State parks such as Pearrygin Lake, Yakima Sportsman and Lake Wenatchee still offer sun if not the 90-degree temps of summer. Plus, in fall, it's a heck of a lot easier to get a campsite at such parks. No need to reserve a site months in advance; just show up and you should have the pick of the sites, perhaps even that primo spot that in summer you could only dream about landing.

      Know Mountain Biking
By: James GunaseelanMountain biking is a very enjoyable sport. You get to exercise and see the countryside at the same time. If you enjoy going outdoors and wish to get a form of exercise, too, you should get a bike and go mountain biking. A mountain bike is technically different from a road bike and a BMX. Mountain biking tires are usually fat tires with knobbies which makes it easier for them to go up mountains and traverse rough roads. The knobbies virtually grip the loose rock and rough roads to go faster compared to a road bikes smooth tires. A road bikes tires are specifically designed to run faster on a smooth road. The frame or body of the mountain bike is also larger and sometimes heavier than a road bike. This is due mainly to all the pressure it gets from the rider who exerts effort to go faster on a rough road. Mountain biking parts are not as light weight as the road bike parts although some frames and components have gotten lighter over the years. There are many varieties

They think it is meant for extreme sport enthusiasts and is filled with total insanity. Those who are really enthusiastic about mountain bike come from the cross-country mountains. It is most surprising to know that. They use their mountain bike as a fitness tool and just like to get out and about in the countryside. Mountain Biking and Heat Stroke
Last week, my wife, sister, brother, dad, and myself all mountain biked the Minnesota River Bottoms Trail. This is an amazing trail, and recommended to all. My brother, Trevor, and I had a great time trying out some of the jumps and twisting around the singletrack sections of the trail and lightening speeds. We all had fun taking the wooden rope raft across mouth of Nine Mile Creek to continue on the other side of the creek. We were also impressed by the giant old trees along the path. It was a great time.  Jessica and I plan on going out again tomorrow. We have a couple trails in mind, but I am leaning toward the Lebanon Hills trail in Dakota County. You can check out more trails in the twin cities here. Besides the great time that we had on the trail, I had an interesting experience. I had forgotten my water, but figured that I was not thirsty, and could survive without (first mistake). After completing the approximately 11 mile long course, we were all exhausted. Unfortunately, our

      Biking Through Copenhagen
What a nice idea for a sunny summer day. But well... Copenhagen is a bit too far away for me at the moment, so I let Mr. August do the work for me! Join him here:Kristoffer August and his band The Red Apples are - you guessed it - a Danish combo; Morten wrote about them before (read here), and their alternative country-rock is really tasty! They have released their debut album From Under The Sun earlier this year, and apart from that nice video, they also offer some tasters from that album. It's really worth spending some minutes and listen to those wonderful songs. You can buy the album by clicking here, and although it's in Danish, you should find your way through!http://kristofferaugust.dk/http://www.myspace.com/kristofferaugustThe Great Green Ancient Sea (MP3)The Great Longing (MP3)Desert Night Sky (MP3)

Mountain biking and Mexican food - the mundane details of my life
I just want to mention that I returned from the mountain biking trail without losing a single drop of blood. For me, this is a personal best. I have scars from every single mountain bike ride over the past 2 years. I’m not a very experienced rider–I go a handful of times every year on [...]

Portland Ranks Highest for Biking to Work - Naked?
Portland is a bicycle riding town, to be sure. Many Portlanders commute to work on their bikes daily, rain or shine. In fact, according to a report from the U.S. Census Bureau, Portland, Oregon has the distinction among large cities as having the highest percentage of bicycle commuters. Approximately 3.5 percent of Portland’s workers pedal to work, about eight times the national average of 0.4 percent.  Here are the other cities that ranked in the top 10:  Portland (3.5%)) Minneapolis (2.4%) Seattle (2.3%) Tucson, AZ (2.2%) San Francisco (1.8%) Sacramento, CA (1.8%) Washington, D.C. (1.7%) Oakland, CA (1.5%) Honolulu (1.4%) Denver (1.4%) However, the bicyclists I have seen in Portland ride with their clothes on - until recently. You may (or may not) have heard of the World Naked Bike Ride (link warning - nudity alert!). Well, a couple of days ago hundreds of Portland bicycle riders were seen riding, en mass, over the Hawthorne bridge and through downtown, NAKED.  Why

      Moutain Biking and Health Benefits...
Last year about November I went to the doctor for a physical. He did all the blood work and all that stuff. My results came back good. My blood pressure is about 127/80 and my Triglycerides are about 189 which are in the good range. He said that I needed to loose some weight. At that time, I was about 185-190 and I am 5'8'' He suggested that I ride my bike more and that it would help. I said ok. I was going to try to anyway as I like to do it.A few weeks ago, I realized that my pants were fitting very loose. They are a 34 waste. So after noticing that, I got on the scales after I took a shower and was amazed. I weighed 172!! I got on them on Sunday night and I was 169. I am on the first belt hole and all my 34 stuff fits me very loose. So with out even trying to loose weight, I have done it. I do not diet!! I eat what I want to and also at work I walk an incredible amount because of the size of the Fab that I work in. I walk an average of 10,000 steps a shift! So you

      Biking in Munich
During my two weeks in Europe I was surprised at what a cycling city Munich was. My only thoughts of major biking in Europe were of the Netherlands. Munich is truly an advanced biking city: Bike lanes on many major routes, many cyclists amid cars in streets flowing perfectly with traffic, designated bike, walk, and drive signals at many intersections too. All pedestrians and drivers are accustomed to folks cycling as a normal form of transportation. People whisked by me with German efficiency, with exception to this American accidentally standing or walking in the bike lane on occasion . And when I was in the way a polite ring of a bell sufficed just fine. Here’s some random commuter bike photos I snapped. And look at these sexy fenders! Basket and sleek fenders! At the central train station (more…) Share This

Freestyle Biking, Spaceport, and the Diamond Vomit
I was riding around on a freestyle bicycle in a large “warehouse” with smooth floors doing all sorts of cool tricks. What struck me in the dream was that I had such good balance and control. I was pretty proud of myself. After riding around for a bit in this “warehouse”, I rolled up to one of the windows which were pretty dark. You couldn’t see through them unless you pressed your face really close and cupped your hands around your face to block out any light. So, I did that and what I saw outside the window both amazed and confused me…I was in a spaceport! I knew it was a spaceport because of course I could see stars and planets, but also arriving and departing ships. It was completely amazing and I was in awe. Once I realized I was in space I started thinking of just how I had gotten there, and couldn’t come up with an explanation. Just then I started to feel nauseated and had to crouch down. Brace yourself readers, this is gross: I started

      Biking Around Kyoto
Last night, we went to the Uji river to watch cormorant fishing. We were not able to fish, but we were able to watch from a boat. It was so close that I was able to pet one of the birds before it dived back into the water. After that, we took the train back to Kyoto and had dinner at a small diner before crashing. After a long night of rest, we were determined to see more of Kyoto. Before arriving in Kyoto, we decided that the second day would be spent biking around Kyoto. Since most of the town is flat, the bike ride was not that bad. We traveled from the south to the east of town to the north and west. Along the way we visited the Golden Pavillion and other temples. When we were travelling from the south to north part of the city (Golden Pavillion area), we totally got lost and tr
