Will Marvin Lewis run with the same luck as Scott Linehan who just got fired from the Rams? I guess it will all depend on how Cincinnati does against the Cowboys on week 5, and with a Dallas team (3-1) coming hurt by a defeat against the Redskins, the chances for the Bengals [...]

      Steelers = Bengals?
Here's a real think piece from ESPN 1250/Beaver County Times sports personality Mark Madden: are the Steelers no different from the Bengals? As Mr. Madden points out, the number of current Steelers involved in domestic abuse cases has risen to an alarming four: Najeh Davenport, Santonio Holmes, James Harrison, and Cedrick Wilson. But why do the Steelers' incidents mostly fly under the radar, while the Bengals are a national punchline?Looks like a misbehaving Brady BunchSays the Super Genius:Make no mistake, this is epidemic. Steelers fans glory in knocking the Cincinnati Bengals for all their legal peccadilloes, but eight percent of the Steelers’ roster has been involved in domestic abuse. Yet few seem to care. Goodnight, Sweet Bengals
STEELERS (9-3) 24BENGALS (4-8) 10It was pretty sweet to watch Pitt spoil West Virginia's season on Saturday night. But Sunday night was a different kind of sweet. The Steelers effectively closed the door on Cincinnati's 2007 season, the same season that according to some was supposed to end with the vision of Chad Johnson and T.J. Houshmandzadeh wearing Super Bowl rings. The nation can now see that for the illusion that it was. In what's becoming a tradition, Heinz Field was the site of an ugly, nationally-televised football game, although this time the field wasn't nearly as sloppy as the play. A gamelog would probably look something along the lines of "Palmer incomplete, Palmer incomplete, Palmer incomplete, Cincinnati punt, Parker fumble" over and over. If you thought Carson threw a lot of incompletions, you were correct: he finished 17-for-44, a whopping 38.6% completion percentage. Meanwhile, across the field, Ben Roethlisberger managed an effective 21-for-32 (65.6%), with 2 T

Defensive TD’s key Cardinals win over Bengals 35-27
Typically when the Arizona Cardinals win, it is usually a result of the offensive side of the ball. Not this weekend; cornerback Antrel Rolle’s three interceptions, 2 returned for touchdowns, were the key in Arizona’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals 35-27 at a shell-shocked Paul Brown Stadium. In the first quarter, both teams scored a TD each; Arizona on Rolle’s first of 3 interceptions, and Cincinnati on a nifty 19-yard pass from quarterback Carson Palmer to wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, knotting the score at 7. Bengals kicker Shayne Graham would kick 2 field goals in the second quarter, sandwiching a Warner-to-Anquan Boldin 44-yard TD pass, making the score 14-13 Arizona. Another Warner TD pass, this one a 5-yarder to WR Larry Fitzgerald, enabled the Cardinals to take a 21-13 halftime lead. At 12:59 of the 3rd quarter, Arizona RB Edgerrin James would score a TD from 3 yards out, extending the Cards’ lead to 28-13, but Cincinnati would score twice in

The Steelers' 24-13 win yesterday seemed, at least to me, to display a Bengal team with a lot less life than in recent years. After witnessing another blahse performance by Chad Johnson against the black and gold (5 catches, 51 yards), I was compelled to look up his game-by-game history against the Steelers to prove that I wasn't just imagining things. My findings (catches, yards, TDs):2001: 5-52-0 and 2-25-02002: 7-71-0 and 7-152-02003: 4-77-0 and 7-117-12004: 4-54-0 and 5-80-12005: 4-94-0 and 5-54-0 [Postseason vs. Steelers: 4-59-0]2006: 1-11-0 and 4-53-0Chad Johnson Career vs. Steelers (counting playoff game): 64 catches, 950 yards, 2 TDChad Johnson Career average vs. Steelers: 4 catches - 59 yards, and a touchdown every 7.5 gamesYep, that's right. Watson Leads the Way for Bengals in 38-31 Win
In a game that the Cincinnati Bengals simply had to have if they are going to turn their season around, they used little known running back Kenny Watson to run all over the New York Jets in a 38-31 win at Paul Brown Stadium.  Watson, the 7th year back playing for the injured Rudi Johnson, ran for 130 yards on 31 carries and three TD’s.  He scored on runs of 1 and two yards in the second half, helping the Bengals overcome a 13-point third quarter deficit. Trailing 20-10 at the half and 23-10 in the third quarter, the Bengals woke up on both sides of the ball, and outscored the Jets 28-8 to end the contest to improve to 2-4.  The Jets, who made the playoffs as a wild card last year, drop to 1-6.  They were 10-6 last season.  Carson Palmer threw for 226 yards on 14-for-21 passing.  The threw a TD to TJ Houshmandzadeh and three passes to Chad Johnson for 102 yards. The Jets had a productive day from QB Chad Pennington, and were let down by the defense in this one.  Pennington

The Beat Goes On: Patriots Tame Bengals 34-13
The first four weeks of the 2007 NFL Season have been maddening! And I’m not talking John(sorry, couldn’t resist!) The inconsistencies vary from week to week where a team looks like a 98 pound weakling one week, and a super hero the next. There has however been one constant amidst all the flux of the “Season of the Bizarre” and that has been the sheer domination of the New England Patriots. And Monday night in front of a national audience they once again made an opponent embarrassed as they beat up on the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati 34-13. New England quarterback Tom Brady again was almost eerily accurate going 25-32 for 231 yards. Brady threw 3 touchdowns and a pick, only his second interception of the year. Why the Cincinnati Bengals Will Be Better Than the Steelers in 2007 (HA!)
A few months back, I threw out a challenge to the followers of every other NFL team out there: tell us why your team will be better than the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007. Plenty of eager writers told you exactly why they thought they'll be superior to the black and gold. Several teams had authors lined up that apparently backed out (probably due to the fact that they had no argument), and sadly, I thought Cincinnati's rep was going to be one of them. But fear not, my inbox found one last essay in this series. And after their showing on Sunday, I'd love to hear more on this topic.Today's author goes only by the name of Jason, although if I was a Bengal fan I'd prefer to remain semi-anonymous as well. At this point, I'll leave it up to him to defend the men that allowed 51 points to the Browns on Sunday, a team that scored a grand total of 7 against the Steelers... Should You Start Bengals Players vs. the Ravens in Week 1
Every time one of your fantasy football players goes up against the best defenses in the league there is a temptation to bench 'em. While this is understandable, it is not always your best option. This Monday night, the Bengals go against the Baltimore Ravens. This affects a number of the top fantasy football players in the league due to the Bengals explosive offense. Here are some key stats for the top Bengals players against the Ravens.Carson Palmer - 91.5 QB rating, 10 touchdowns 7 interceptions in 6 games.Rudi Johnson - 52.7 yards a game, 4 TDs in 9 games.Chad Johnson - 61 receptions...76.8 yards per game...6 TDs in 12 games.T.J. Houshmandzadeh - 55 receptions...87.1 yards per game...5 TDs in 4 games.Based on these stats, it seems very safe to play Palmer and TJ on Monday. The only players that warrant hesitation are CJ and Rudi Johnson. However, there numbers, although below par, are not terrible. If you have a deep bench at RB, you may have someone that can replace Rudi Johnson t

Bengals Back Irons Done for the Year
The Bengals have suffered a season ending injury, as second-round pick, running back Kenny Irons will be out for the year after tearing a knee ligament in Thursday’s preseason loss at Detroit.  The Auburn back went to the locker room on a cart and was diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee.  He is expected to make a full recovery and be back on the field by next spring. Irons was expected to be in the mix as far as backing up feature back Rudi Johnson was concerned.  During the preseason outing, Irons ran for 17 yards, including a long gain of 11 yards.  Last week he ran for 65 yards on 10 carries in an intersquad scrimmage.  He was a stud back in college, as he ran for 108 yards per game in 2005.  Last season he was banged up, and ran for 893 yards. The Bengals running back depth now is down to Kenny Watson, who is basically a third-down back, and Quincy Wilson, who has just two carries in his NFL career.  The team also grabbed Curtis Brown after he was cut by the Rai

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — The Cincinnati Bengals signed first-round draft pick Leon Hall to a five-year deal Saturday, that guarantees him $8.2 million and could be worth $13.6 million overall, his agent said. Hall, a cornerback from Michigan, was the last of the Bengals’ seven draft picks to sign. He missed two practices, on Friday and on Saturday morning, but reported to camp in time for the Saturday night session at Georgetown College.   Leon Hall is listed backup to more…

Bengals Stunned as Thurman’s Request to Rejoin Team Denied
The Bengals have been dealt a huge blow, as the team was informed that linebacker Odell Thurman’s suspension has been lengthened for another season, meaning that he will NOT be in a Bengals uniform for the 2007 season. The linebacker as well as the team was expecting that he would be reinstated and would be back on the field this season. The agent for Thurman, Safarrah Lawson, said that Thurman had met all requirements of the league’s substance abuse policy. Thurman was suspended for the 2006 season after he skipped a drug test and then was later arrested for drunken driving. He had asked NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to reinstate him for the 2007 season, but was denied. The team insisted that they were preparing for the season without Thurman, but there seemed to be a underlying tone that they felt he would be back and that he would be able to play as well as he did his rookie season. The linebacker spot that belonged to Thurman now belongs to Landon Johnson and Ed Hartw

Bengals Still Awaiting Word on Thurman’s Return
The Cincinnati Bengals continue to wait to hear the fate of linebacker Odell Thurman in regard to his possible reinstatement to the league. The team was hoping that a decision would come down on Monday, but a league spokesman told the Cincy Enquirer that there is nothing to report in the case, leaving the team to wait for today or tomorrow for a decision. The linebacker had applied for reinstatement last month after he was suspended for the entire 2006 season for a third violation of the NFL substance abuse policy. Thurman had been suspended before for a second violation, and his third offense was a DUI on September 25th of last year. The Bengals believe that a decision on Thurman will come before the team takes the practice field for the first time on Friday at 3 p.m., hoping that their linebacker can be on the field with them if all goes as planned. There is also a chance that head coach Marvin Lewis may wait to let the public know the decision at about reinstatement until their annu

CINCINNATI (AP) — Bengals linebacker David Pollack, who broke a bone in his neck during a game last season, isn’t expected to play this year. “He is working extremely hard and will continue focusing his efforts on rehabilitating with our medical staff,” coach Marvin Lewis said. Pollack broke the bone while tackling Cleveland’s Reuben Droughns Sept. 17 and missed the rest of the season. The club said he is continuing to recover from surgery he had Jan. 3. “I’m grateful for my more…

The 2007 Bengals Are Ready To Go
The Cincinnati Bengals have announced their training camp schedule, and the excitement of the 2007 season will begin on July 27th. Training camp highlights include a “mock game”—whatever that is—on August 4th, and a night practice followed by fireworks on August 1st. I like that the team is having one night practice, but for the sake of the overworked Cincinnati police department shouldn’t they make every practice at night?—preferably between 10 p.m and 4 a.m. That should help keep the players out of trouble. If Roger Goodell is smart he will jump all over this idea.

Bengals RB Quincy Wilson Arrested Following Wedding
Huntington, WV television station WSAZ has learned that former WVU and current Cincinnati Bengals running back Quincy Wilson was arrested early Sunday morning by Huntington police.  The arrest over the weekend is creating big controversy in Huntington.  Wilson was part of a wedding party celebrating at the Envy nightclub, and he was arrested for disorderly conduct after leaving the club.  Wilson is friends with the couple that got married on Saturday. Carlos Barron was the groom and Tara Hensley was the bride.  They also were arrested along with three other members of the wedding party.  Police say they refused to leave the area of the nightclub after officers ordered the crowd to disperse.  Family members say those arrested did nothing wrong — that the arrests were racially motivated.  All members of the wedding party were black and still in their tuxedos when taken to jail — the bride is white.  The police report says it was important to get the crowd t

      No Charges Against Bengals’ Henry
According to Cincinnati television station WLWT, no charges will be filed against Chris Henry in an alleged assault.  The 16-year-old and his family stopped cooperating with police and two other suspects were identified in the attack, Florence police said at a Friday afternoon news conference.  Police said the assailants were two Florence men, but officers did not identify them. The teen had claimed last week that Henry, who is on probation for a 2006 firearm conviction in Florida, and another man jumped from an SUV and assaulted them June 8 near Mount Zion Road.  The boy also said Bengals wide receiver Reggie McNeal was inside the vehicle during the attack. A league source told WLWT after those reports had been made public that the allegations had been fabricated.  Henry is among nine Bengals to be arrested since the end of the 2005 season, and he’s not the only troubled player to be the subject of conflicting reports of alleged misbehavior. Last week two men a

Are the Gators the New Bengals?
The Florida Gators are lucky Roger Goodell isn’t running the NCAA. Tailback Brandon Powell’s Monday arrest for purchasing 8 grams of marijuana made him the 7th Gator to run into trouble with the law since the team won the National Championship 5 months ago. All this comes after a 2006 season that saw numerous other Gators, including a kicker, run afoul of the law. (When a kicker is accused of providing alcohol to a minor and then using a fake ID, you know the team has problems.) Meanwhile, doctors might want to make sure Urban Meyer doesn’t injure his neck from looking the other way too much. “It’s a day-to-day operation,” the coach said last month. “We’ve had a few guys who’ve made some small mistakes, and a guy or two who’ve made some big ones.” Although it was unthinkable just 18 months ago, I’d like to congratulate Florida for officially passing Miami as the worst behaved college football team in the state.

Assault Complaint Against Bengals Thurman Dropped
In a move that brings some quick relief to the Bengals and linebacker Odell Thurman, the two men that accused him of kicking them and hitting them last week at a party have dropped their complaint.  The two Georgia men had stated that Thurman assaulated them early Sunday after an argument and a home.  They even stated that Thurman’s brother - Willie, threatened them with a gun. There was talk that the two men were simply out for money, but that was never determined.  As for dropping their complaint, the deputy clerk of Magistrate Court in Jasper County did not know why the two men are not going forward against Thurman. If the two men were out for cash, they went after a player with already enough problems against him.  Thurman was suspended by the league last year for skipping a drug test.  He then was suspended for the year after his arrest on a drunken driving charge.  He is scheduled to apply for reinstatement on Monday with the NFL. Thurman led the Bengals in tackles i

Bengals Lewis Needs to Curtail Comments About Cincy Police
When it comes to stupid comments, I guess nowadays in the National Football League it’s not just classified to the players, but to coaches as well. Such was the case on Wednesday, when Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis made a ridiculous statement on ESPN Radio that Bengal players are being pulled over because of profiling at work. Yes, Lewis, who is not running a football team on most days but a home for troubled players, stated that wide out Chris Henry was pulled over for not signaling a turn because of profiling. Upon it leaking to the masses, the Bengals quickly went into damage control, and Lewis, who is supposed to be the leader of his team, back tracked his statements. “At no point did I say or mean to imply that these issues had anything to do with race,” Lewis stated. “When I spoke of our players being perhaps more subject to scrutiny than others, I was referring to their standing as public figures.” Uh, in other words, what I think Lewis meant was

      The Bengals' Legacy Is Widespread
Not only are the Cincinnati Bengals now widely known, with good reason, for their squad's lack of ability to follow the laws and ethics of society, but it seems that their problems even extend to former players wives. From the Enquirer:A Hollywood makeup artist and wife of a one-time Bengals player was arrested Monday on charges she had sexual contact with a high school student during parties at her Villa Hills home.Jeni Lee Dinkel, 51, pleaded not guilty Monday to one count each of third-degree rape and third-degree sodomy after turning herself in to authorities. Is it just me or does it always cross your mind in situations like this that the boy probably wasn't too upset with getting some trim from an older woman? He threw for 4,035 yards, which was a career high, he threw 28 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. And for those impressive numbers he put up he was rewarded with a trip to Hawaii at the season's end. Bengals Decide Not to Match Offer for Smith
The Smith count on the Cleveland Browns' roster will move up to 5 today after the Cincinnati Bengals announced on their web site that they will not match the offer given by Cleveland a week ago. Smith will be a nice addition to the Browns front three at an estimated cost of $8 million over a four year period. Smith began with the Bengals as a backup tackle, and began to expand his role over the past couple years. He played in 13 games in the '05 season and games 1-13 last year before being designated as "inactive".
