The Beltway Series: A Tale of Two Teams
This weekend the slumping Washington Nationals will face the Baltimore Orioles in what hopes to become the next big rivalry in baseball. When the Nationals came to town in 2005 it ended what had been a 35 year MLB drought in the nations capital. The area was excited that baseball was finally back, and rightfully so. That year the Nationals exceeded expectations by finishing .500 and drew more f

Beltway Elites and the Ordinary Americans They Rule
Life Outside the BeltwayWashington elites, pontificating pundits and media types would be very surprised to know: There is life outside the beltway. Millions of largely invisible, average Americans live there. And these Americans are living lives totally alien to the thousands of so-called experts and talking heads who claim to represent them. For instance: These Americans, (I'll call them 'we' Ame

The Rivalry That Does Not Exist: O's vs. Nationals Play Kick Off the Annual Battle of the Beltway: The Bird & Screech Face Off...
Well, the non-existent rivalry between the Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles kicks off tonight at the Yard. What can we say -- right now, no one cares that the team formerly known as the Expos are playing the recently-down-on-their luck Orioles. The reason is simple -- aside from the few people 40 and over who were around to see the Senators and the Orioles face off (and the Senators were

Hope the beltway Democrats are happy
Senator Lieberman has given his endorsement to John McCain. Lieberman, if you’ll remember, had his feet put to the fire back in 2006 over his tendency to behave as though he was a Republican warhawk. After getting his ass whipped in the primaries by Ned Lamont, Lieberman ran as a independent. This is what he had to say about Lamont’s challenge and the impact a win by Lamont would have in 2008: Now McCain is a certified member of the GOP clown car so it pretty much goes without saying that there isn’t much he won’t claim, but I’m willing to bet that “I’m a Democrat” is on the “ah, hell no!” list.

I've written about them before. They're the bipartisan pushers and shovers, the VIP line-cutters who invoke the "Don't you know who I am?" card to elbow past the little people, circumvent security lines and exempt themselves from the rules the rest of us have to follow."Read Story

As we are on the cusp of Memorial Day weekend, the Nationals are surging and winning ball games, while the Orioles are floundering. In the Nation’s Capital, manager Manny Acta is being praised for his work; however, in Charm City, manager Sam Perlozzo is facing the firing squad on a daily basis. What does the future hold for Sam Perlozzo and the Orioles? Can the Nationals stay on a red hot and shock all of baseball? Join James and I at 1PM this Saturday for Beltway Baseball, where we will discuss the Orioles, Nationals and a lot more! We’ll be live on BlogTalk Radio and taking your calls as well as IMs. To call in live, the number is (646) 478-4728, or you can IM us at beltwaybaseball. The Game Yesterday -- The Battle of the Beltway, Orioles Take Game One, 5-4.
Orioles and NationalsChris Ray got a chance finally to save another almost 5 days after the Boston game, aka “the Mother’s Day Massacre” and this time he delivered. The Orioles won a razor tight game, by a score of 5-4. Thanks to timely hitting, as well as Brian Roberts and his 4 hits, the team was able to snap their 5 game losing skid. Thus, the Orioles took the first game of the “Battle of the Beltway” on Friday night. However, the Nationals nearly came back…Steve Trachsel, perhaps probably the most reliable starter in the Orioles rotation, pitched a little more than five innings, gave up two runs and two hits.Ryan Zimmerman and Dmitri Young hit two run homers for the Washington Nationals. The starting pitcher for the team, Jason Simontacchi took the loss, but had another quality start as he went six innings, struck out six and gave up three runs.Brian Roberts, Nick Markakis, Kevin Millar, Jay Payton and Corey Patterson drove in runs for the Orioles.Danys Baez gave Orioles f

Beltway Baseball, Live at 1PM Saturday on BlogTalk Radio...
Well, it would be an understatement to say that this week has been a one to remember in the Mid-Atlantic region. Sam Perlozzo was roasted in the local press and narrowly escaped a lynching, the bullpen has been an adventure, and there have been rumors of the “Baltimore” returning to the road jersey, only to proven to be false (for now). The Nationals are red hot, taking 3 of 4 from the Braves, and to top it all off, Jason Bergmann nearly no-hit Atlanta! In addition, the Orioles and Nationals are taking on one another this weekend, and I'll give you my thoughts from the weekend... We’ll cover it all and more on Beltway Baseball! Join us at 1pm on Saturday as we’ll be live on BlogTalk Radio and we’ll be taking your calls as well as IMs. To call in live, the number is (646) 478-4728, or you can IM us at beltwaybaseball. The Battle of the Beltway -- A Much Ado About Nothing...
Well, the two baseball teams of the Mid-Atlantic region meet up this weekend in Washington D.C., as the Nationals take on the Orioles at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium. With both teams going through attendance woes due to the play on the field, and the lack of promotion of this series; to be quite honest, I don’t see much to this rivalry at the moment. From what I can see living in covering both teams and living in the cross-hairs of Washington and Baltimore, it generates some exctiment, but it’s not a ‘must-see’. With the Nats playing good baseball this week, and the Orioles tanking and stumbling at the moment, no one knows what to expect. With the exception of Ryan Zimmerman and Miguel Tejada (to a lesser extent Nick Markakis and Brian Roberts), there’s not much star power at all to drive the rivalry to another level. If anything, fans from Baltimore who come to Washington D.C. get to take an inexpensive road trip, and Washington fans who go up to Baltimore get to see a game in a

Beltway Blogroll: Confessions Of A Beltway Journalism Insider
It gladdens my heart when I read something like this. Not only does it show what bloggers can accomplish it also shows not all journalists are the arrogant pricks you might think. All too often the average journalist is perceived as incredibly arrogant and an activist to boot.  This gentleman has an open mind and doesn’t look down his nose at us “new kids on the block”. I sincerely hope many other journalists read this story and take note. And the fact that it might just encourage more transparency and openness in our politicians is icing on the cake. ~RJH Beltway Blogroll article link Confessions Of A Beltway Journalism InsiderI've been inside the Beltway too long. I know this because of the blog entry I inadvertently posted yesterday (now deleted), before realizing I had fallen prey to a bunch of insider mumbo-jumbo about arcane Senate traditions. The subject of my attention was the latest blog swarm against "secret holds" in the Senate. On Tuesday, two Democratic senat

      Beltway Buggin'
Everyday I'm on that asphalt go-kart track also known as I-495, The Capital Beltway, The Capital Parking Lot, Hell, or whatever you want to call it. Without fail, I see some crap-tastic demonstrations of driving skills and other mess that sends me into unflattering bouts of road rage. This morning, I think I forgot my calmness at home, because it was all cussin, fussin, and middle fanger flailin from Laurel to Vienna. So even though the people I'm talking about will probably never read this, I'm gonna put them out there anyway.Silver Benz Truck w/Delaware Tags- Get your gotdamned finger out your nose.
