Seattle’s Seafair Marathon ran by yesterday from Seattle through the Eastside cities of Bellevue and Kirkland. The runners showed lots of grit, guts, sweat, humor, and appreciation. Pretty impressive, given that I was seeing this when the runners were hitting their 23rd mile and the temperature kept climbing to one of our hottest days of [...]

Today the Seattle Times reported that six intersections in Bellevue will get the red light cameras in addition to three new speed cameras located near elementary schools. The cameras will be added in the next three to six months, although police have not decided exactly which intersections will get the red light cameras. Drivers who are caught by the cameras will get a $124 ticket. Drivers will only be given a warning if caught in the first 30 days after the cameras go into operation.

What an extreme waste of a human being. So what he was depressed…So what he lost he lost his job…So what he was on hard times…So what he had a hard life…So what he did bad at school… So his parents failed him… So his friends failed him… So the school failed him… So his relatives failed him… So his community failed him… So the world failed him… HE FAILED HIMSELF. Every single person on this planet has been depressed at one time or another and so now it seems it's even fashionable to be depressed and have a "rough life". Despite it all, there is NO reason for a person to do this type of thing to anyone, here in the U.S. or anywhere else on the planet. He should have shot himself far away from anyone else and did the world a favor.
THIS PERSON IS NOW INFAMOUS AND HE SHOULD BE RIDICULED AND DESPIS

On Thursday, October 11th, I attended a lunch held by the Bellevue Chamber of Commerce at the Hyatt in Bellevue. Jim Stanton, Microsoft Senior Community Affairs Manager, was the speaker for the lunch talk. He talked about Microsoft’s expansion on the Eastside - both past and plans for the future. I took some notes and will pass along the highlights here.
Microsoft has approximately 78,000 employees globally - 40,000 workers on campus here (5000 are vendor/contractors). Last year, Microsoft hired 12,000 globally. Microsoft had revenue of approximately $50B last year, $10B more than the year previous. This expansion has pushed them to acquire more space.
Microsoft and Redmond have created an agreement to support this expansion. Each party contributes some set of actions for this goal. The slide that showed the pieces of the agreement went by too quickly for me to write down all of the elements - and the slide no doubtedly was a synopsis of the major elements.

Interested in plans to build a light rail line through Bellevue? Here’s how you can get on board!
Sound Transit is proposing to extend a light rail line across the I-90 bridge through Bellevue and on to Redmond. Funding will come from the Roads and Transit package on the November ballot.
The purpose of this “best practices” study is to learn what works, and doesn’t work, elsewhere and apply those lessons in Bellevue.
City staff at the open house will explain the study’s purpose, provide information on light rail and east Link, confirm and clarify issues/opportunities heard to date, and receive additional public comments before beginning the case study work.
The open house will be on Sept 13, 2007 from 4-7 pm at the Bellevue City Hall Concourse.

I thought I would pass along this announcement for Fashion Week - though I should probably go to get some advice, you will probably find it hard to find me there. Enjoy the events!

Jen and I went to the Bellevue Arts Fair yesterday. I took a few photos which you can see here. The weather was fairly nice but overcast. It was not as zoo-like as the UW Street Fair has been - the crowd was light enough to move around easily with our pups on leashes. There were quite a few dogs there - all were well behaved and friendly. We had a lot of kids ask to pet the pups, which shows that the kids were well behaved too :>
With most of Bellevue’s new condo developments focusing on the very high-end market, it’s refreshing to see a developer offering a more reasonably priced option for condo buyers. Proposed by Colorado developer Tonsing Properties, the Vida Condominium (website), located in downtown Bellevue, will offer 236 homes within its 12-story structure. Prices are expected to range from $300,000 to over $800,000, though most of the homes will be available between $350,000 and $450,000.
One way the developer is able to offer homes at these price points is by reducing the size of the units which will likely range from 400 to 850 square feet. In many ways, Vida is reminiscent of the Moda Condominium project in Belltown. Moda provided an affordable alternative with homes ranging from a very cozy 300 square feet to about 1,000 square feet. Moda was a hit buyers and sold out within a couple of weeks.

Developed by Schnitzer West, the Bravern Signature Residences (website) is one of several upscale high-rise condominium projects under construction that are transforming Bellevue’s skyscape.
Located in the heart of downtown Bellevue (map) , adjacent to the Meydenbauer Center, the Bravern Signature Residences will encompass two 29-story towers featuring more than 450 residential condominium homes. The homes are divided into distinct formats, similar to 1 Hotel & Residences & AVA, which include City Homes, Condominium Estates and Penthouses.
The City Homes feature open one- and two bedroom units that range in size from 625 to more than 1,200 square feet. Prices start from the $400,000s to more than $1.5 million.
The Condominium Estates feature one, two- and three-bedroom homes that range in size from 1,000 to more than 2,000 square feet. The Condominium Estates are expects to be priced from $900,000s to more than $4 million.
The Penthouses offer spacious city living with
The next stop on our Bellevue tour is European Tower (website) located at 930 109th Ave NE. Of all the new condominium projects in Bellevue and Seattle, European Tower is destined to be the most exclusive and distinctive.
Developed by Russian-based GIS International Group, the 17-story tower will be home to only 16 chic condominium homes, just one home per floor with a two-level penthouse.
With its European heritage, the developers have created a very modern and sleek residential property. Based on renderings, the home designs are open with clean lines and include stylish imported finishes and European fittings.
Each two-bedroom home features a separate den area, 360-degree panoramic views, two decks, two elevators and two spaces in the underground mechanical garage. Residents drive into the secured car port area and the automated garage whisks the vehicle away and stores it in a space underneath the building.
The property is located just blocks from Bellevue Square, Lincoln Square and
Bellevue Towers is another condominium project that is re-shaping the heart of downtown Bellevue. But, unlike the other projects, Bellevue Towers may well become one of Bellevue’s iconic buildings. At 42 & 43-stories, the sleek glass-enclosed towers will be among the tallest residential buildings in the greater Seattle area, not just Bellevue.
Situated at the corner of NE 4th Street and 106th Ave NE (map), the complex is located just two-blocks to Bellevue Square and the downtown park, and within short walking distance to the many office buildings.
One thing Bellevue Towers seem to do well is blend nature with modern, urban living. The complex incorporates a large eco-landscaped urban garden area that includes a lawn, a walking path, outdoor fireplace, a BBQ area, a patio area with tables and a dog run. Bellevue Towers is aiming for LEED-Gold certification which is the only condominium project I’m aware of doing so.

The second of Bellevue’s new condo projects, Washington Square, developed Wasatch Development, is taking form on the north end of downtown Bellevue (map).
When complete, the $1.2 billion 10.5-acre super-block project will encompass four residential towers, a hotel/condo tower and an office tower making it one of the more ambitious developments in the greater Seattle area.
Currently, Washington Square is selling homes in Tower One and Tower Two (see photo). The towers feature open one-bedroom, one-bedroom, one + den, two-bedroom, two+den and three-level townhomes. The homes are priced from the $600,000s into the millions.
The 26 three-level townhomes surround the base of the towers and come with private 2-car garages, a private elevator and entertainment sized patio and decks. The townhomes are expected to be released for sale this May and will likely start at $1.2 million.

Though Seattle Condos And Lofts primarily report on Seattle area condos, a number of new developments have been recently completed, under construction or are planned for the Eastside. Here’s a heads-up on a few Bellevue condo projects.
One Lincoln Tower (completed)
Situated at Lincoln Square, One Lincoln Tower features 148 upscale homes (floors 20-42) in the heart of downtown Bellevue. Lincoln Square also is home to the Westin Bellevue, retail and restaurants.
Washington Square (under construction)
Washington Square is a beautifully designed two-tower complex in downtown Bellevue. The first tower is expected to be completed early 2007 and the second in late 2008. Developed by Wasatch, Washington Square features 400 condominium homes and retail. The Platinum tower homes, available for pre-sale currently, features concealed flat panel televisions, state-of-the-art audio and media system, Viking appliances, motorized roller shades, floor-to-ceiling windows and much more.
