      Believing God While In Pain
I have been believing God for the past year and a half, for healing of a terrible condition known as "Trigeminal neuralgia". I do not write this for sympathy, but to be of encouragement. Pain will drive people to do things they otherwise would not do. It also deeply influences how a person interacts with other people. It can be hard to believe for healing when pain is racking your body, because th

Simcha is a bit of a comedian and his off beat approach to the sometimes dreary subject of archaeology is very entertaining. Internet Dating Online: The Price of Believing Before Seeing
One of the major benefits of online dating is the ability to remain anonymous. As we all know there is something about an air of mystery that excites many of us. The less a person reveals about themselves, the more we want to know about them. That is human nature and its something online dating exploits quite effectively. Being anonymous also seems to liberate many of us. People become less inhibited about sharing their inner thoughts online with people they really don't know. And that brings us to the flip side of being anonymous online; the power to deceive. Whether it's exaggerating a dating profile or putting up a fake picture, online dating comes with built in pitfalls. Even if you are with a dating service that does a great job of screening prospective suitors, there is no one hundred percent guarantee. Many people that lie are quite good at it and being anonymous only sharpens their skills. Are you being misled? Here are some ways you can find out. 1. Good Answer. Maybe Too

Believing God is not hard by Elaine Davenport (Tuesday, October 2, 2007)
It's amazing to me that when things get tough for some of us; our vision become obscured and we have to step back to gather our wits. Nobody likes to admit this so it's okay if this has only happened to me and a few others. One day, I received a letter in the mail and I needed to have a certain amount of money by a certain date. I didn't panic, I just said: "Lord, that's Yours." That kind of faith came from a reservoir of studying the Word of God and walking it out.The Bible says in Hebrews 11: 5, 6: By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. 6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. I really want to focus in on faith. I want to focus in on your ability to believe God. Faith isn't something that comes

Thomas Friedman’s Not Believing The Administration Claims on the Surge
It might have taken Thomas Friedman too long to realize that the Iraq war was a foolish mistake, but at least he is not going to be fooled by claims that the surge has been a success: There’s only one thing at this stage that would truly impress me, and it is this: proof that there is an Iraq, proof that there is a coalition of Iraqi Shiites, Sunnis and Kurds who share our vision of a unified, multiparty, power-sharing, democratizing Iraq and who are willing to forge a social contract that will allow them to maintain such an Iraq — without U.S. troops. Because if that is not the case, even if U.S. troops create more pockets of security via the surge, they will have no one to hand these pockets to who can maintain them without us. In other words, the only people who can prove that the surge is working are the Iraqis, and the way they prove that is by showing that violence is down in areas where there are no U.S. troops or where U.S. troops have come and gone. Because many Americans

      Day 27.....Believing Again
I remember heavy summer evenings when the tired sun would sink into the shadows of the horizon. When the last remnants of day would meet to mingle with the evening for a few moments before parting to say goodbye. The stars would begin to appear in the lavender twilight that gently gave way to the deep purple of the night. Laughter and voices of my parents and neighbors chatting mixed with the sounds of crickets carried through the air on a hot evening breeze; as the other children on the block and I played just out of reach of their shadows.A childhood melody that still plays in my mind. Barefoot in the grass and cautious of the slimy slugs that seemed to find their way beneath our feet. We would watch as the night came alive. One by one they seem to materialize out of the darkness filling it with the flickering dance of fireflies. Bright green glimmers of light lasting only for a moment before fading back into the darkness from which they emerged. Shrieks of surprise and laug

Believing the Worst Requires Too Little Imagination
If it bleeds it leads is one reason we are all too well aware of as to why the news has more good then bad; even when more good than bad may have happened. Watch any local newscast and the coverage is wall to wall crime, accidents and anything that might bring in the viewers hoping for some action and car chases. In Iraq, from Abu Ghraib, Fallujah to Haditha, the truth isn’t nearly as important as the story; much like the Duke Lacrosse players in their travails and tribulation facing prison time for a rape they did not commit nor even happened. All this is unfortunate for us in that it leads to an acceptance of what isn’t as those it is, which brings us to all the horror stories of our soldiers in Vietnam as baby killers and presently our heartless “killers” in Iraq. Perhaps if the media wasn’t so starved or easily self-mislead toward the worst in us in a war they disagree with we might have a true picture of what exactly is going on. Mackubin Thomas Owens, cont

      Believing In Wellness
Getting ready for work the other day, my 12 year old developed an ear ache. I knew it was nothing serious given her age and the fact that only minutes before she was fine. Yet, the temptation was too great to not take a quick peek. That is the blessing and curse of being a doctor-mom! So, peering in I confirmed what I already knew: nothing was going on. True, she had a tad of fluid from allergies but I didn't need an otoscope to know that since she was a known hay fever sufferer and the pollen count was through the roof that week. A touch of over the counter ibuprofen and allergy meds later, she was on the road to feeling better and without a real doctor's visit. It occurred to me as I was driving to work that my day would likely be filled with similar complaints, as typical. Despite the fact that most kids truly are well, parents often have times believing in that wellness and come in very quickly at the first sign of trouble, or perceived trouble. You may think that
