      Belgian ISP in Trouble
A court in Belgian is holding a local ISP responsible for the file sharing that goes on in their service. They've been given six months to install software to prevent their customers from downloading pirated music and videos. Some think this will affect other ISP's in Europe, others don't."ISPs have argued that they provide a service like a post office or a telephone company, and shouldn't be required to police the traffic on their networks." ~ComputerWorld (July 5)I agree with this comment. Why should the ISP's be responsible for what every one of their customers does on the Internet. That's like holding them responsible for child abductions, murders and anything else that was started by their customers on the Internet. On the other hand, the court also believes that the ISP's have the tec

      Hops Belgian-style cafe bar
It's open, ready for the Crewe public and I must say it looks the business. A mix between a cosy pub and, say, Square One, the new cafe bar is intimate but has enough room to accommodate large groups of people - and they're extending upstairs. I popped in late morning and grabbed a coffee, but beer and lager fans will be delighted to learn that there's an impressive array of cask ales, continental bottled beers and a good range of draughts. It's also housed in one of those stunning old railway era buildings that, thankfully, have survived demolition over the years. They're a friendly team and have already been visited by the cast from this year's panto, Beauty and the Beast. So if you're in town around the central pubs (like the Waldron, Three Lamps, Borough Arms etc) then pop down Prince Albert Street and give this new Crewe venture a try... .The bar will also be featuring on the Crewe pubs site so your feedback is much appreciated.

      Belgian jailed for race killings
A Belgian teenager has been sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a Malian nanny and her two-year-old charge in a racist shooting spree. An Antwerp court found Hans van Themsche guilty of killing Oulematou Niangadou and then shooting toddler Luna Drowart when she started crying. Van Themsche, 19, also shot and wounded a woman of Turkish descent during his rampage in central Antwerp in May 2006. He was stopped when a policeman shot him in the stomach. He later told police he had hoped to kill at least five foreigners before dying in a hail of police bullets. The jury rejected a defence argument that Van Themsche was mentally ill. Right-wing links "You acted with blind violence, without any respect for the lives and integrity of others," judge Michel Jordens said. "You reduced the value of life to nothing in order to affirm yourself," he said. Police say Van Themsche's father helped found the now defunct anti-immigration party Vlaams Blok, and his

A Burger and a Beer: The Belgian Café
Beer. Burgers. Mussels. Why mess with a good thing? Fergus Carey and Tom Peters have been at the forefront of Philadelphia’s gastro-pub movement since 1985, when Carey founded Fergie’s Pub at 12th & Sansom. The duo’s latest endeavor is The Belgian Café, recently opened in the old digs of Tavern on Green at 21st and Green Streets in Fairmount. One couldn’t be faulted for thinking of their new spot as “Monk’s West.” Both the menu and the beer list read like abridged versions of the tomes at Center City’s Monk’s Café. There’s a strong focus on burgers and moules frites, with a prodigious selection of vegetarian/vegan options but an otherwise pared down selection of bar snacks, sandwiches and main plates. As at Monk’s, and as the restaurant’s moniker suggests, there’s a strong Belgian bent to the beer list, which is clearly dominated by a broad, careful selection of Belgian ales, rounded out by some local brews and a smattering of options from Germany, Ho

It takes a certain level of politeness and charity to not insult the weak (European Christianity). About French And Belgian Comics
by: Anthony BenjaminComics And Comic Books - France and Belgium are two countries with a long history of comics and comic books. They are called Bande Dessinée in French. Belgian comic books on the other hand were first printed in Dutch are greatly influenced by Francophone comics, but still have their very unique style.La bande dessinée comes from the sentence: art form as drawn strips which is literally translated as the drawn strip. It's English equivalent, the word "bande" can be both film and comics. It's not insignificant the French term comic contains no indication of subject matter, unlike the American term "comic," which implies a form of art not to be taken seriously. For more information on comics visit:http://www.mysecretsites.infoRelative to the size of their populations, the innumerable authors that are in France and Belgium publish a vary high number of Franco-Belgian comics. Formula 1 - Belgian GP - Race Review
The 2007 Belgian GP hardly can be called a classic race, but it was sure one of the better ones this season, with quite a bit of an on track action. Most of it was down the grid though …Ferraris were class of the field this weekend, clearly better than McLarens. This was quite a turnaround after Monza, but that’s what we got used to this year. Both teams are very close and the pendulum swings from track to track…We had no serious carnage at the start this time, however the stunt Alonso pulled on Hamilton could have caused one. Whether the move was deliberate I am not able to tell, but it sort of looked like it. This was something I would understand if the car next Alonso was all red, but doing this to a team mate is quite unexpected. It looks like Ron Dennis prefers this season to end as peacefully as possible. He told ITV:"It was absolutely fine. They weren't too aggressive and they're racing drivers. No-one would blink if it was opposing teams."Exactly, no one would blink if i

Belgian Beer Exports Surge 15 Percent
Belgian brewers are making up for a per capita drop in domestic sales by shipping more beer out of the country. A 15 percent surge in exports in 2006 kept Belgium's brewers toasting. The world's thirst for Belgian beer caused overall production to increase by 6 percent -- even in the face of the domestic decline. Fifty-five percent of Belgian beer is now exported. The decline in domestic beer sales are being attributed to consumers opting for other beverages and stricter drinking and driving laws. Belgium is also outlawing consumption by youth under 16. Currently, beer can per served to someone under 16 in a bar or restaurant as long as they are supervised by an adult.

Rumble: Belgian Airforce Drops By to Say Hi.
I want to wrap up at least one more short story before I leave. It is one I have been working (read: "struggling") on since a while. About a field trip to Zambia. Tentative title "Stuck in Mpulungu". Attentive readers probably saw it appearing in the scroll-box with updates in the right column as the "next short story to be released". And then saw it being replaced with "Next short story: The Dudettes". Now it is back again.Part of the story is how we got transport from a Belgian Air Force C130 Hercules cargo plane from Uganda to Zambia. You won't believe this, but as I was sitting in the study editing the story (once more) this afternoon, a C130 from the Airforce flew over at a real low altitude and made a U-turn right above our house. I was just in time to snap the picture above as the plane flew off again.Talking about coincidences, hey? Or do you think "they" are monitoring this blog? You know! "Them"! Or was it the other "Them"? Hahaha.. Anyway, I thought it was a nice gesture, o

Belgian Chocolates Are The Alpha Male Of All Chocolates
Believe it or not chocolates are good for your health. There have been studies that were conducted by major research institutes that people who constantly eat chocolates have a longer life span than those who don't usually eat them.Chocolates are also filled with antioxidants that fights off cancer, cardiovascular diseases, thwarts off strokes, and lowers down blood pressure. Chocolate also has large amounts of iron and magnesium.Other than its health benefits, chocolates can make you feel much better in a more legal and tasty way compared to alcoholic beverages and medications. The ingestion of chocolates induces the release of hormones called endorphins which promotes a state of happiness or a feel-good emotional experience. Why the Belgian Post Office is Better Than the U.S. Postal Service
You can learn as much or more about the attitudes of government officials by observing what they do rather than what they say. It's clear in so many ways that many elected and appointed officials at local, state and federal levels of government in the United States would love to ban or at least further restrict our right to purchase and responsibly consume beer, wine and spirits. They might not be running on the Prohibition Party line, but look at what they do in everything from excise tax increases to restrictions on where and when alcohol may be purchased or served. It even filters down to our postage stamps. That's right: postage stamps. You might not think it matters, but it serves to prove a point. In a country where our first President ran a distillery, the author of the Declaration of Independence was a collector of fine wine and at least one leader of the revolution was a brewer, you might expect a more favorable attitude towards alcohol among politicians. Not so and

      The Assie Open: Belgian Day
I have to support my fellow countrymen and women. It is not bad for a country of only 10 million people to have 6 player within the table of a grand slam. If Justine Henin wouldn't have dropped out we would have 2 possible champions for the womens tournament.Within the mens table we have some outsiders but I doubt that one of them can reach the semmies. I expect most from Malisse and Vliegen. Olivier Rochus has troubles with his back and a toe nail. Christophe Rochus probably will not survive the first round but if he surprises and Olivier confirms that they will meet each other in the second round. The problem with Malisse is that you cannot trust him. He can be world class one day and the round after that he will not be capable of winning against number 200 and something. Everybody agrees that he has one of the finnest techniques of the tour but that's is only backed up with a semmi at Wimbledon and 2 ATP titles. He is now backup again by David Felgate, apparentely the only trainer

After Microsoft and Google, Belgian editors go after Yahoo
After taking action against Microsoft and Google, Belgium's French-speaking newspapers are seeking redress from another Internet search engine, Yahoo, their lawyer has said. "We sent a letter of formal notice to Yahoo yesterday" so that it will stop publishing articles from Belgian newspapers on its search engine without prior authorisation, said Bernard Magrez, lawyer for the editors group Copiepresse said on Thursday. Copiepresse accuses Yahoo of violating copyright laws by giving Internet users access to archived newspaper articles which the papers themselves would now charge people to read. While its makes no threats in its letter, Copiepresse could take legal action if it is not satisfied with Yahoo's response. A year ago, Copiepresse took Google News to court in Belgium to stop it reproducing content from French-language and German-language newspapers in Belgium on its Belgian website. On September 5, a lower court ordered the California-based company to desist, and said it wou
