It's been a busy coupla weeks here with guests, spring trying to make its presence known amid the snowflakes It's been a time warp... I've had to look at the calendar; is it December or April? An entourage came in last Wednesday from England. Having given them the tour around in what was a very normal sort of day for me I did get to see the farm through someone else’s eyes, but it wasn’t the looks of the place or all that stood undone. These visitors helped me see the wonder of this place and the delight of it. They loved herding the cows along to a new pasture; they had great fun with our horses and watching their antics as we moved them from one pasture to another. Their kids loved going down to Fish Creek with Manker. At one point I heard one of the kids say, “I wish we could ju

Is there an objective biological basis for the experience of beauty in art? Or is aesthetic experience entirely subjective? This question has been addressed in a paper published in this week's PLoS ONE, Cinzia Di Dio, Emiliano Macaluso and Giacomo Rizzolatti. The researchers used fMRI scans to study the neural activity in subjects with no knowledge of art criticism, who were shown images of Classical and Renaissance sculptures.Click here to see the rest of this article in Medical News Todaypermalink TechnoratiPhilippine Nursing http://Philippinenursing.blogspot.com
My mother is in town this week, so I thought I’d share some of my favorite posts from way back, when my only reader was my little sister. Thanks for putting up with my self-indulgence!

My idea of camping is staying in a hotel room without room service and a wall-mounted blow dryer. Give me a clean hotel room with 400 thread count sheets and a lanai I can walk out on so I may greet the early morning sunrise.
I long for a place with a cool swimming pool and hot tub to soak in after a long day of sightseeing.
Needless to say, we didn’t camp this summer. Instead, without any particular itinerary, our family embarked on a road trip to experience the spectacular United States.
Fueled with excitement as well as gasoline, we stayed in a different hotel each night. We could’ve flown, but that takes the fun out of a good old American road trip.
Sure, airplanes get you there faster, but the seats are rather uncomfortable. Remember when it was glamorous to fly?
Well the style and sophistication have been replaced by stale sandwiches packed in plastic trays served by snippy flight attendants.
The golden days of train travel have also disappeared. Instead of nice meals serv
Democracy is a term, in my opinion, that is used entirely too often. Our current leader, President Bush, as well as most of congress, likes to use to term in the dramatic sense of a “freedom for all” kind of political utopia. Our sometimes friends in the European Union use the “idea” democracy as a staple for their particular brand of individuality, and they pride themselves on this. But what exactly is this “democracy” thing all about anyways? Are we what we say we are? Well sort of, we’ll get to that. The dictionary defines the word democracy as “government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.” Let’s, for simplicity’s sake, examine this weak ass Webster’s definition of an idea. First off, America is designed and thought of as a government by and for the people. It was designed this way sometime during the summer of,
One man’s garbage is another’s treasure. Sometimes it’s quite fruitful to snoop around other people’s dumpsters salvaging disgraced stocks.
Lo and behold, I may be gaping at the rottenest of all: Homebuilder stocks. The S&P Homebuilders index has been nailed and hammered over the past couple of years, and is already plummeting 20% six-months into 2007. Many Homebuilder stocks are teasing their historical low price/book ratios, but who can blame the market when you consider:
The National Association of Realtors is reporting a nine-month worth of home inventory waiting to burn through. This is a 15-year high.
The sub-prime fiasco is forcing lenders to tighten their mortgage lending practice, thus reducing housing demand.
Homebuilders are lowering their prices and enticing buyers with perks in order to clear the excess inventory.
Homebuilders are expiring and writing off their land options.
I know this may sound counter-intuitive, but bad news is good news for
Congratulations to Elwood, this year's winner of the Ugliest Dog contest. Can you believe the breeder was going to euthanize him because he was too ugly to sell? Tragic. I think he's a stunner. Definitely a chick magnet. Thankfully, Elwood...
Yesterday morning started off like every other morning for me. Fric and Frac were fighting over who would take the last piece of chicken for lunch; Nixon, the World’s Greatest Dog, Ever. was sitting on my bladder looking at me with hopeful eyes, willing my lazy butt up and into the pantry where we keep the doggy biscuits; and I was taking my leisurely time rolling my ass out of bed starting my day.
Did you know that parenting can be accomplished while trying to gather an extra minute of shut eye? All one has to do is bark orders from underneath the pillow.
“Fric, quit picking on your brother!”
“Frac, don’t forget to pack some vegetables in that lunch!!”
“Let the damn dog out!! He’s bugging me!”
As I was demonstrating this fine parental skill, my darling husband called for our daily bitch fest conversation filled with sweet words of love. We talk about how our night’s went, the weather, and of course, if there are any hotties

In an Austrian art museum, Dr. Regina Leitner-Opfermann rules (get it?) as a foremost authority on ancient sculpture. The pride of the museum's collection is an original Roman Bronze statue of a nude youth dating back to something like 300 BC. She authenticated the find several years before, published a book about it and is so totally invested in

You might think this is silly, but I am fascinated about the barns which dot this landscape. You find them everywhere, even in the most remote mountain passes. Just standing in the field. Looking at the structure of the wood, the way the tiling is done, they have been standing there for decades. The barns are used to stow hay and tools, so the farmer does not have to haul everything to and fro the farm. They are usually built in two storeys. They hay is stuffed under the roof, so it can not get wet once the land is flooded by the melting snow. The tools are stowed below. Often they also have a space for cattle to shelter from bad weather.
She was not beautiful.Nothing about her was extraordinary.Nothing about her made her stand out in a crowd. She grew up in a family of six.The eldest, she learnt responsibility at an early age.As she grew stronger, and brighter,She instilled a sort of light cheer to whomever she met. She was not beautiful. But she made others feel beautiful about themselves. She meets a rebel boy who thinks he's all man.Befriending him, she teaches him how to read,A little boost the man needed to go to college. They became friends fast and she fell,Fast in love with her rugged, handsome student. The "man" then finds himself in a dilemmaHe soon found himself in love with a girl.A girl so beautiful, she turned even the grouchiest men's head. Her hair was a halo of light around her,Her eyes the bluest blue of ocean. Eye of the Beholder
El Color del Cristal con que Se Mira¹
Do you see what I see?
Truth is an offence.
You silence for your confidence.
>¿Ves lo que yo veo?
>La verdad es una ofensa.
>Callas para tu tranquilidad.
Do you hear what I hear?
Doors are slamming shut.
Limit your imagination,
keep you where they must.
>¿Oyes lo que yo oigo?
>La puertas se han cerrado de golpe.
>Limitan tu imaginación
>Te mantienen donde ellos imponen.
Do you feel what I feel?
Bittering distress.
Who decides what you express?
>¿Sientes lo que yo siento?
>Amargo desasosiego.
>¿Quién decide lo que expresas?
Do you take what I take?
Endurance is the word
Moving back instead of forward
seems to me absurd
>¿Soportas lo que yo soporto?
>Resistencia es la palabra
>Retroceder en lugar de avanzar
>me parece absurdo.

Beauty being in the eye of the beholder, I found this framed painting at Ikea and thought it must have universal appeal. Jordan and Emily were here in LA visiting at the time of purchase, and I had to plead my case to Jordan to convince him that it was an interesting piece of art. When I got it home, Adum didn't like it at all. Since then, the reviews from our company have been cautious. I'm curious to see if I am the only one who thinks there is anything remotely compelling about this piece or if my love of abstract art has just gone too far. When I look at it, I see a bare city alleyway flanked by two vibrant, old skyscraper apartment-type buildings. It would be impersonal except for the ladder in between the two that connects them and their tenants. It just reminds me of all the cool old cities I have been to like Venice, NYC and London and how the only good city is an old city and if it weren't for the people living there, the cities would die a cold, black and white death. Even
