LETTER Mbeki’s behaviour ’shocking’ 12/05/2008 09:30 - (SA) Dear Editor, I am astounded by the continued denialism and lack of determination displayed by President Thabo Mbeki to solve problems facing South Africa and Africa as a whole, particularly Zimbabwe. The BBC reports on the unpleasant inclusion in Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill of measures to criminalise "extreme pornography" after the murder of Jane Longhurst by Graham Coutts. A campaign by her mother, Liz, won the support of the local Labour MP, Martin Salter, and the inclusion of measures to criminalise "extreme pornography". The Ministry of Justice are frustratingly moralistic:But the Ministry of Justice is unrepentant, saying the sort of images it is seeking to outlaw are out of place in modern-day Britain."Pornographic material which depicts necrophilia, bestiality or violence that is life threatening or likely to result in serious injury to the anus, breasts or genitals has no place in a modern society and should not be tolerated," says a spokeswoman for the ministry. This

I went to the computers with the library catalogue. All of them were occupied, so I waited. Then I catch a glimpse of a girl on one of the computers that was reading, not using the computer, just reading a book. I walked

Dog Behaviour Problems - Getting A Dog To Behave
Your dog may be your best friend, but just like your human friends he or she can embarrass you in public - you can actually train your dog to behave, you might not be so lucky with your human friends. A well trained dog usually means a happy owner and a contented animal. Does your dog refuse to sit or stay at your command and does it bother other people by jumping up and barking? This may be your dog's natural exuberance getting the better of him but when you are out in public, not only is it embarrassing for you, it can be frightening for people who are unsure of themselves around dogs. If you want to avoid these situations then you need to start getting your dog to change his behavior now. In some respects dogs are like children and this means that they have to be taught how to be social

      PETS BEHAVIOUR
A new study should have cat owners purring with delight. It suggests they are somehow partly protected from the ravages of heart disease."Over a 20-year period, people who never owned a cat faced a 40-per-cent greater risk of death due to heart attack than previous or current cat owners," said the lead researcher, Adnan Qureshi, a professor at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Qureshi, who presented the findings at a medical conference in New Orleans yesterday, is at a loss to explain his study, which involved 4,435 volunteers. "The best theory we can come up with is that ... cat ownership leads to reduced stress levels which, in turn, lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease" he suggested. On the other hand, it is possible that cats don't directly shield people from heart attacks. Instea

      Maternal Behaviour – Reproduction
The newborn kitten is eleven to fifteen centimeters (four to six inches) long and weighs between seventy and one-hundred-and-thirty-five grams (two and five ounches). It is a fairly helpless creature at this stage, unable to see because of closed eyelids, unable to hear with ears that are folded back, and capable of wiggling and squirming but not walking.Brothers and sisters instinctively bunch tighter to conserve warmth.Over the next two to three months the mother cat gradually teaches her kittens all they need to know in order to look after themselves.BondingIn the first few days of life, the queen is absolutely vital to the kittens’ survival, not least in protecting them while they are physically so vulnerable. Instinctively, the queen knows what to do, even if it is her first litter.

Not being machines some queens do their own thing and have heat cycles somewhat outside these main peaks. Dog Behaviour Problems
here's a difference between disobedience and incomprehension. If your dog isn't obeying a command because he doesn't understand what it is you want him to do, that's not a behavioral problem at all; it simply means that you need to spend some more time together in training.True disobedience occurs when your dog deliberately does not obey a request or command, although he has full knowledge of what it is that you're asking him to do (and you know this because he's performed it reliably on several occasions beforehand).Although this may seem like a relatively minor inconvenience, it's actually a pretty serious thing - not only can it be dangerous for your dog (for example, if he's heading towards a busy road and ignores your 'come' command), but it's also detrimental to your relationship wit

      Dog Behaviour Training
Bad behaviour in dogs can consist of many problems. Does he barks all night long and keeps you from sleeping? Are you afraid he is going to keep biting? Does he chew everything except his toys? If the answer to any of these questions are yes, you need to invest some time into a little bit of dog behaviour training. A little training will go a long way.Training dog not to barkDogs that bark can be extremely irritating but the main thing is not to loose your cool, if you shout at him he will try to shout louder than you. Try and find out the cause of his barking. Is he barking because he is afraid? Is he happy? Is there someone out there? If you can not find the reason for the barking then he is doing it because he does not know it is wrong to bark all the time. This is where dog behaviour training comes in. There are lots of products available to help dogs with constant barking; there are special collars which gives them the tiniest of electric shocks so they know that it is not good to

      Abnormal Market Behaviour
I do not like the way how market is behaving lately. Firstly, the recovery from the August low was too fast. Secondly, I observed that the price swing has been very wide and loose on the way up. This could be signs that the smart money are getting out. At the top, there shouldn't be alot of selling (volume) because there are limited over hang shareholders. The only explanation for the high volume is, smart money liquidating. Thirdly, the incredible run at HSI. Murphy law applies in the market too.Inorder to cut down risk, i sold HongXin when the selling persist. I had wanted to ride this on the way up but the price actions has been too loose and i didn't like the wild swing. If everything is fine, i will look to buy back again.I derive 2 opinions about the market.1) Market trades in a range and we see major support levels hold.2) Market breaks the major support levels and we crash south creating a lower low in price actions.GrowMoney QuickpicksSPC (Bull)Ezra (Bull)UOB (Bear)SMB (Bear

After that, the car slowed down and drives slowly. When i said slow means, it's really slow, maybe 30-40 like tat!!The car behind him kept flashing at him, asking him to get lost, but the driver chose to ignore and happily driving slow at that lane. I just do not understand why he wants to do that? purposely drive so fast to cut into that lane, then slowed down and get cursed by the cars behind him?? hmm.. perhaps he enjoyed getting cursed and flashed by other people? i guess i will never understand these ppl. ~sigh

Cat behaviour problems and what you can do about it
Cats can be ill tempered and mean at their worst, but even the most annoying problems have a remedy. Listed below are six of the most common behavioural problems in cats along with some relevant solutions for them.1. Clawing your furnishings and carpetJust like rodents need to gnaw, cats need to sharpen their claws. Cat's claws never stop growing, and what they are actually doing when they sharpen their claws is removing the outer layer of the claw. Some people do choose to de-claw their cats when having this problem, even though this is not theoretically correct. It is possible that an indoor living cat could venture into the outside world one day, and if it has no claws, it has no form of defence. Before considering having your cat de-clawed, purchase a scratching post. If your cat has a favourite member of the family, then you can hang an old sock of that person on the scratching post to make it smell familiar. You can also sprinkle catnip on the post. This is to attract the cat to

      Understanding Your Child’s Behaviour!
In order to understand why your child is misbehaving it is extremely useful to keep a diary: Identify one behaviour that you would like to change. Be as specific as you can e.g. wont do as she/he is told, hitting, demands things, whines. Write the behaviour down. When the behaviour occurs, write down what led immediately up to it (triggers) and what happened afterwards (consequences)? Also record how you behave and feel? After a week try to see if there is a pattern to the behaviour. When is it occurring (times, situations)? Who is it occurring with? What are the triggers? What are the consequences or “pay-offs” for your child? Often this is related to getting attention, “winding-up”, getting their own way (”giving in for a quiet life”). Ask yourself what is my child learning from the way I respond to the behaviour? Am I setting limits and boundaries consistently? Once you have a clear picture you are ready to change the pattern by changing

No queues were backed up on the Exchange 2007 Server box which led to much scratching of head especially as users were not receiving any messages nor were there any event logs regarding the matter. Cat Behaviour Training
It's said that cats can't be trained but that just isn't true. You just need persistence and patience and your cat will be as well behaved as any dog. There is more to cats than the loveable and affectionate pets who purr contentedly on the sofa. They have a destructive side as anyone whose furniture has been scratched, ornaments broken or stocking laddered beyond recognition will know. However, there are reasons why cats behave in this way and when you know why, you will be able to keep your cat under control. The following are some reasons why cats misbehave as well as tips on how to prevent this happening:1. Cats are easily bored when they aren't asleep and when they are bored, they become destructive. In reality, they are looking for ways to expend their energy or possibly for attention from their owners. A way round this problem is to make sure that your cat has plenty of playthings and preferably you should join in the games yourself. With young kittens, this could be for as mu

The other day I was watching television. For some reason I was paying attention to a TGI Friday’s ad when the voice-over (who has up until now been telling me about their new dish, “Cedar-Seared Salmon”) exclaims, “With a surprising dash of cedar!”Cedar. Not pepper, not parsley, sage, rosemary or time, but cedar. Is TGI Friday’s too good for conventional seasoning? Does their over-inflated ego allow them to actually believe they have the right to create their own seasoning…out of wood? I paused, shocked that between TV episodes of Doctor Who and Hustle, that wood has suddenly become a condiment. And it’s not as if the flavour of cedar has never been used with salmon, but throughout history salmon has been cooked on, planked, or skewered by cedar, never covered in it. In fact, it's soon I realize that the “surprise” the dish advertises isn’t the combination of flavours but the use of wood, like salt. Which, (and here’s where I credit them for truth in advertisi

      On Their Best Behaviour
Guest review by T.O.P. reader Amy A few weeks ago, my youngest daughter started biting out of frustration. In searching for ways to help her stop this behavior, I was recommended the book “Teeth Are Not For Biting” by Elizabeth Verdick. I was quickly turned on to all the books in her Best Behavior Book Series. The hard durable board books are the ones my daughter reaches for first at bedtime. They are simple, but get the point across with repetition. The illustrations are colorful and the books also give children ideas on what good things to do with teeth instead of biting. Other books in the series include “Feet Are Not For Kicking” and “Words Are Not For Hurting”. Even at 18 months old, my daughter now understands that biting hurts. Amy is a working mom with two girls; Ashley is four and Audrey is 18 months. In addition to working, she is currently getting her Master’s in Elementary Education and plays bassoon in her community’s con
