The King of Beers has met his match and for a mere $50 Billion will now be part of InBev, A Belgium Based, Brazilian run conglomerate that makes Stella Artois and others.
Originally rebuked by the BUD board InBev came back with an offer that just couldn't refuse, $70 per share, or 27% higher than its 2002 all-time high. This creates the world's largest Beer Company, and gives InBev #1 Market sh

Who would have thought the day would come when you could stay on your low-carb diet and still have beer? Ever since the beer industry jumped on the low-carb bandwagon, it's true, but the big question is... How do all these low-carb beers actually taste? The answer: surprisingly good!First off, some basics about beer. Beer is a fermented product typically made from barley or rice. Both barley and r
I have seen the light and been converted. It is now official: SSS drinks beer~~!!!!!From now on, that is. And only the expensive kind. As in imported European (Belgian) kind.Don't get me wrong. I enjoy a glass of wine now and then, a cocktail here and there, Japanese sake to go with my sushi or Korean soju with BBQ, and so on and so forth...But I just never liked beer. I can stomach Asahi or Heinek

I don't care about your political stance; I'm not here for any of that silly nonsense. What I do care about is my future level of intoxication, and McCain wants to take that euphoria away. Don't believe me? Here is the proof from his own mouth. The republicans either need to somehow switch candidates (Are Hillary's snipers still around?), or vote for Obama this fall....because I love beer.

This week we taste ten brews that have crossed my path during the last month.Over the last few weeks I've had the chance to try a number of noteworthy brews. Good beer is increasingly easy to find in America, and that is good news. However, there are still plenty of gag-reflex-triggering beers on the shelves, and it is time these offenders of good taste were called out. Here are my picks for the 10 worst beers in the world.10. Coors Aspen Edge If giving up carbs means giving up any semblance of body or flavor, as is the case with this "beer," it is probably better to carry a few extra pounds.9. Milwaukee's Best I understand this is a sentimental favorite of many, as it takes them back to the old days. Well, human sacrifice harkens to a simpler time, too. If you want to kill your taste buds, try battery acid — it probably tastes better.8. Sleeman Clear Lager Another low-carb entry, though here the delicate and nuanced notes of lighter fluid and
My husband drinks alcohol seven days a week. He has three beers on weekdays, and four or more beers plus half bottle of wine on each day of the weekend. Will this level of consumption do any damage?

I can't get enough of the sunsets in Antalya. Early evening, an hour or so before the sun goes down, we wander down to the old harbour, a ten minute walk from the house we're renting. Who out there hasn’t, while gazing upon some luxury item that is beyond one’s means – a bottle of fine perfume perhaps, or a lady-in-a-bikini bottle opener – thought, “Would that it could be mine, but alas, I don’t have the requisite funds. If only I had the guts to steal it.” Barring a stint in our teens during which we may or may not have stolen anything that wasn’t nailed down, however, most of us feel that shoplifting is wrong – even when it’s a big corporation that couldn’t possibly miss one little item – or we just don’t want to be embarrassed by being hauled into some backroom and put under the bright lights for an interrogation by mall cops, so we either go without or go into debt when it comes to the things we want. Call it nature, nurture, or Florid
We may have finally found the mechanism to communicate how big of a problem binge drinking is in Alabama (and across the country). The average Mobile county resident of drinking age consumes 22 gallons of beer in a year.

De Beers, a diamond importer and mining conglomerate that controls 40 percent of the world's diamond trade, settled a class action lawsuit for $295 million, after being accused in several state and federal lawsuits of violating antitrust, unfair competition, and consumer-protection laws. Stories on the settlement earlier this week were reported by, e.g., the Chicago-Tribune and UPI.The plaintiffs' complaints alleged that De Beers monopolized diamond supplies and conspired to control diamond prices. E.g., Sullivan v. DB Investments, Inc., No. 04-cv-02819 (D.N.J. June 14, 2004). De Beers continued to deny wrongdoing under the settlement agreement. Of the $295 million, direct purchasers are to receive $22.5 million, and indirect purchasers $272.5 million. Of the indirect purchaser amount, con

I joined fellow NYC bloggers for the first time at one of their happy hour gatherings last night. As I left work and ventured downtown on the D train to a bar on West 4th Street, I couldn't help but feel a little apprehensive. It almost felt like I was meeting about a dozen people for a blind date.Upon entering the bar, I surveyed the scene trying to see if I could recognize anyone from the photos posted in our private New York Bloggers' Happy Hour blog. I searched for BNR, who had assured me that he looks exactly like the avatar on his blog, and I would eventually find them at the beerpong table in the back.

In case you were steaming over providing a shell-shocked vet with unlimited means to self medicate, there's a catch. Harry Patch, Britain's last surviving World War I veteran, is 109 years old.
Harry Patch, 109, won five medals for his service during the war but now his local boozer has honoured him free drinks.
The Rose and Crown in Limpley Stoke, Somerset, made the offer after inviting Harry to open the pub after a refit.
Harry, who was injured in the 1917 Passchendaele offensive which killed half a million men, drank in the pub when he was a young man.
Speaking at the packed re-opening ceremony, where he signed copies of his book The Last Fighting Tommy - A Tale by Harry Patch, Harry said: ''It's a very kind gesture.

Examen y a seguir estudiando.

By: Elmo Kandel Wheat beers are beers that are brewed with both malted barley and malted wheat, rather than usingjust barley. The addition of wheat will lend wheatbeers a lighter flavor and somewhat paler colorthan most all barley ales and beers. Wheat beer is normally top fermented, which is fermentationwith ale yeast. All types of wheat beers have become very popularin the last several years, especially in warmweather. In earlier centuries, the brewing of wheat beer was illegal in many places, simply because wheat was too important as both bread andcereal to waste it with brewing beers. The two most important varieties of wheat beersare Belgian and German.Belgian Belgian wheat beers are easily the best known,as they get their name from the suspended wheatproteins which give it the whitish color. Belgianwhite beers often have spices such as coriander or orange peels added, which help to give thema hint of fruity flavor.GermanGerman wheat beer is a well known variation throughthe sourthe
As we walked around the beer fest at the end of our first night of pouring, my friend nudged me and nodded in the direction of a guy staring our direction. It was the ex. The one I met volunteering the first year. He appeared a little too happy to see me. Reached in for a hug, which caught me off-gaurd. The last few years I've endured our yearly run-ins across a table. Either his when checking in
De izquierda a derecha: Jordi Planas, Ximo, Felipe (Duque), David, Félix Mezcua, Pedro Perles, Rafa, Pablo, Javi (yo mismo), Vicente y Dietmar Stefitz.

I'm the host for The Session #7: The Brew Zoo, so I have been thinking about animal beers the last few weeks. Beer Blogging Friday is a pretty liberal operation, allowing beer bloggers some decent leeway to take a theme and run with it. My personal preference for The Brew Zoo is to write about beers that either come from a brewery named after an animal or the actual brand is named for an actual living, breathing creature. That said, I fully expect that a number of beers that feature animal art on their labels, but not in their names, will show up at the zoo gate. I've had several recently, from Saratoga Lager with its horse to Sweetwater 420 Extra Pale Ale and its fish to Bell's Concecrator Dopplebock with its pair of billy goat heads. I also decided personally to avoid mythical creatures for my personal contribution. Bigfoot and Flying Dog may show up, too, and that's just fine. All of these beers will be allowed through the gate. We want to see how many creatures big and small tha

Technorati Tags: bbcl2
It looks like Molson Coors Brewing wants its Coors Brewing subsidiary to come out with a hit craft beer more than once in a blue moon.Beer distributors and company employees have been told the company formed AC Golden Brewing Co. in Colorado to make "above-premium beers." The company says it will use low key roll outs in hopes of finding another Blue Moon, a brand that is among the fastest growing at the craft end of the market. Coors also makes Coors Light, Killian's Irish Red and Keystone, but avoids connecting Blue Moon with these brands.AC Golden Brewing's efforts will be closely watched by craft brewers. Anheuser-Busch has been extremely active in rolling out craft-styled flanker brands in recent months. The larger brewers benefit from established distribution channels which can more easily obtain store cooler space and bar tap handles than small brewers. While the giant brewers are careful to not put major ad spending behind the brands, the process of consumer discovery of thes
This time they play with TWO quarters (thanks to the producers allowing them another quarter) and in teams, girls vs. boys. Start opposite sides, and shoot till you hit, pass it on. If you end up with both cups in front of you, your team looses.
The girls had a LONG ASS powwow before the game, resulting in the boys already being drunk, sharing 13 beers between them,
while Amber and Jameka worked over Jess to get her to turn against Eric. It included a lot of circular reasoning, backtracking, lies, professions of honesty, swearing on daughters (yes. again.), more lies, some truth, and making sure that anything Eric’s ever done/said that could be pushed and twisted is brought up over and over again. Hypocritical BS irritates me! And Jessica looked like she was starting to buy into it too. Hopefully Eric can talk her down. Again.

I know a good idea when i see one. I know a great idea when i see one. But when i see one that could possibly change the nature of the human race, especially at fraternities and college towns, I get excited.Popular Science staff photog John Carnett came up with this working prototype for the All-In-One Beer Maker, labeled aptly "The Device." It contains all the steps for making your own bitter sweet adult beverages, just needing your own little TLC to coax the process along.Gizmodo: Link!

Lyke2Drink is proud to be hosting the seventh edition of The Session. The Beer Blogging Friday event is held the first Friday of every month, so The Session #7 is slated for Sept. 7th.The Session was the brainchild of Stan Hieronymus over at Appellation Beer. The Session is designed to bring bloggers together from around the world to write about a single beer related topic each month. In its short frothy history The Session has already covered some interesting ground, from the beer stylistic varieties of Stout to the environmental stylistic varieties of Atmosphere. So what is the topic for September? Welcome to the Brew Zoo.Have you ever noticed how many animals show up on beer labels? We have lions and tigers and bears, plus various birds, reptiles, fish, assorted domesticated and wild animals, plus a few mythical creatures. For whatever reason brewers have a tradition of branding their beers using everything from pets to predators. The Brew Zoo will celebrate these lagers and ales. You
After the North American Beer Festival, all the brewery presidents decided to go out for a beer. The guy from Corona sits down and says, "Hey Senor, I would like the world's best beer, a Corona." The bartender dusts off a bottle from the shelf and gives it to him. The guy from Budweiser says, "I'd like the best beer in the world, give me 'The King Of Beers', a Budweiser." The bartender gives him one.. The guy from Coors says, "I'd like the only beer made with Rocky Mountain spring water, give me a Coors." He gets it. The guy from Molson sits down and says, "Give me a Coke." The bartender is a little taken aback, but gives him what he ordered. The other brewery presidents look over at him and ask, "Why aren't you drinking a Molson's?" The Molson president replies, "Well, I figured if y

This week we spend a couple of days wandering around Chicago tasting Midwestern suds. One thing was clear during my recent visit to Chicago: People in the Windy City like to gather in taverns and hoist a few. Great neighborhoods across the city are centered around restaurant and entertainment districts. We were focused on trying fresh Midwestern beer and found our way to some of the best beer bars in the country. Places like Sheffield's, Hopleaf, Clark Street Ale House and the Map Room. We even had time for a stop at Goose Island's Wrigleyville brewpub and two Ram Restaurant and Brewery locations, one in Schaumburg and the other in Rosemont not far from O'Hare Airport. The following is a brief tour of some of the standout beers from the trip:Founders Centennial IPA: A clean and crisp IPA with good floral notes and a nice hop bitterness.

This week we head to where the Reinheitsgebot is still enforced.Plenty has changed since the Reinheitsgebot -- known by many as the German Beer Purity Law -- was first adopted in the Duchy of Bavaria in 1516. However, you can still count on German brewers to turn out some of the best made beers in the world. Much of what Americans know about German beer is shaped by straight forward lagers like Becks and St. Pauli Girl. While German brewers stick to a relatively narrow band of styles when compared say to their neighbors in Belgium or American craft brewers, there are some interesting German brews available that do get creative.I spent most of my beer drinking time this past week sampling German beers. A couple were draught beers at the Flying Saucer in Charlotte. The bottled beers were enjoyed during the monthly beer and wine group in our neighborhood -- the Society
This is a cool bag, but no ordinary cool bag; it has the same sort of cooler as the one that you would expect to see on van carrying cold food or something similar.
Of course this bag is not just for beer, in fact it is probably better designed to carry your food for a picnic, but whatever you are thinking are putting in the bag, you can be rest assured that the contents will be nice and cool.

Anheuser-Busch Cos. continues to battle with Budejovicky Budvar of the Czech Republic over rights to the Budweiser brand name and won two court battles around the world recently. The Hungarian Supreme Court has ruled that Budvar cannot be sold as "Bud" in that country, while in Egypt judges found that Budweiser Budvar violated the St. Louis company's trademark. While neither Hungary or Egypt are huge beer markets, the victories are important to A-B as it fights to protect its Budweiser trademark. These battles are long and costly. The Hungarian case was an appeal by Budejovicky Budvar to a 1998 court decision that found in favor of the American brewery.A-B holds the trademark for the Bud name in 23 of 27 countries in the European Union.
I was a little disappointed in myself when I reviewed this list of the 25 best beers in America and realized I had only tried a few of them. Maybe I have been too focused on the boggs lately and not sampling what else the beer world has to offer.
I can say that Sessions is a great beer not to mention anything that comes in a “grenade” bottle gets an automatic +5 in my book. My problem with the microbrews is that they are so damn heavy and filling. When I sit down to drink beer I am going to drink a lot of it. I don’t want to feel like I just at a 7 course dinner after only my fourth beer. That is were my trusty friend boggs comes in. Sure it might not have the complex flavors of the microbrews but it tastes great, doesn’t fill me up and gets the job done.
All differences aside it looks like I have some work to do if I am going to get through this whole list. My Friday night is looking better already.

But while we admittedly received many votes for Budweiser and Coors Light, suffice it to say that these "plain" beers did not make the cut for true beer lovers. This said, one beer that definitely stands out amongst the best American beers on the market is Boston's Samuel Adams, far and away. Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we offer up the last in a series of tastings of holiday and winter seasonal beers. With these four brews we bring our total of seasonals reviewed to 34. To check out the others go to the Tuesday tasting section of the blog index.
Delirium Noel: This Belgian brew is 10 percent alcohol by volume and has a reddish hue. The beer is slightly sweet, with some wine like characteristics. There is even a slight hint of smoke in the base of the flavor profile. An interesting brew to share.
Harpoon Winter Warmer: This beer from New England has a rich creamy head and an inviting amber color. There is a pronounced cinnamon nose and taste throughout.
Magic Hat Roxy Rolles: A cloudy amber brew from Vermont with plenty of hops to ward off the cold. There is a twist at the end of the flavor that is hard to identify exactly. Likely part of the hop bitterness, it did h
Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we taste four more winter seasonal brews as we head into 2007.
Flying Dog K-9 Cruiser Winter Ale: This reddish brown ale has a nicely developed head that remains throughout. There is a good amount of hops in the beer, but it finishes with a slight sweetness. Good balance.
Goose Island Christmas Ale: This bottled conditioned ale from Chicago has a firm tan head and rich mahogany color. Nicely hopped with more than a hint of nutty flavor. Thanks to Jake Koneman for the personal delivery of a six pack from the north.
Highland Cold Mountain Winter Ale: This seasonal was in short supply this winter because of the Asheville, N.C., brewery's move to larger quarters at right about the time this beer is usually made. The beer was a nice copper color, with a good head and rich flavor. Mildly hopped by Highland's standards, this beer displayed hints of sweet
I recently came across a catalog my husband had set aside rather than toss in the recycle bin with the thousands of other catalogs that arrive this time of year. I was intrigued with this catalog on two counts. One reason was that my husband, who throws everything away, actually saved it—and the other reason was the tag line prominently printed in big block letters on the front cover. It said, “STUFF GUYS WANT.”
What woman could resist such a direct challenge? Not me. I sat down and started perusing the pages of this catalog in hopes of finding out what kind of stuff guys really want. After all, this could be my chance to find the perfect gift for my husband this year. Boy was I surprised. If this catalog is true to its word, and its pages accurately reflect stuff guys really want, then my husband is sure to be disappointed come Christmas morning.
After digesting this “stuff” for a while, I decided to make a Christmas list of my own—of all the stuff my husband apparentl
Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we continue our quest to taste holiday and winter brews, finding six additions to our list during travels around North and South Carolina.
You never totally know what to expect when you order a Christmas beer or a winter ale. The "average" of these cold weather and celebratory brews is a deep amber beer with a moderate to thin head, plenty of either hops or malt along with some spices, and a good ration of alcohol. The six pack of holiday beers tasted this week displays all of these characteristics and more.
Coors Winterfest: The folks in Colorado have been turning out a seasonal brew for longer than most. This year's edition of Winterfest is a smooth amber brew with some sweet hints from a generous amount of malt. If you are having a bunch of people over and want to serve just holiday and winter brews, this is a good step up brew for those who normal
At about 7pm on Friday night, as some nasty bar person was forcing me to have another pint of lager, I realised a few things:1. I'm too old for this drinking lark.2. I'd missed the train to Liverpool.3. My phone was nowhere to be found. It was our big day out in Manchester. How, you might think, is he going to link this to his Crewe blog that is, effectively, about life in Crewe. Well, I thought I'd post about Friday's goings-on because you need to know what a complete arse I can be when I've had a few beers and also because there are some startling similarities between Crewe and Manchester. Really.Ok, so Manc is an enormous place. Crewe, on the other hand is but a modest town, growing, but still only about 60,000 in population. However, both have significant railway stations. Moreover, Manchester Piccadilly station has recently been extensively refurbished, as has large chunks of the city. So there are some decent links. If the developers charged with transforming Crewe's dreary s

For over a decade now, Banno has been living on a tree near a beer shop in Nawabganj. Over the years, she has become the local star, as visitors flock to the area to see the monkey drinking beer. According to Ram Nath, a local vendor, Banno developed the "addiction" after some taxi drivers gave her some beer on a hot summer day many years back. "Since then, drivers who pass by have been providing her with half or quarter bottles of beer," he says. And now, the monkey apparently cannot do without the drink, even going to the extent of attacking people. "She injures people and snatches their beer bottles," adds Ram Nath.read more
Tuesday Tasting is a regular feature of Lyke2Drink that explores some of the best beers, wines and spirits on the market. This week we taste three beers shipped to us from craft brewers. It is the drinks journalist's version of pennies from heaven -- only better. The arrival of the FedEx truck can be a very happy experience. Depending on what I'm writing about the delivery might be a rare Scotch, a bottle of California chardonnay or some pretty decent beer. In recent days, three packages have arrived at my doorstep from brewers, two in Vermont and the other in Colorado. Each beer was a unique treat, worth some cyber ink.Gordon Imperial IPA: Oskar Blues Brewery in Colorado made this limited release brew to honor of the late Gordon Knight, a craft brewing pioneer. A Vietnam War veteran, Knight died when the helicopter he was piloting to drop water on a forest fire crashed. The beer is a fitting honor to a legendary man. Dark, with a firm head and a chewy flavor. Very hoppy, this brew w
