Aubrey Huff went 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored as the Orioles use a trio of big innings to beat the Red Sox 10-6 at Fenway Park. Brian Roberts, Ramon Hernandez and Freddie Bynum each drove in two runs for Baltimore, which moved a game over .500 at 32-and-31. Dennis Sarfate pitched an inning-and-a-third in relief of Daniel Cabrera to pick up his fourth win of the season. J.D. Drew and Ma
Josh Beckett scattered six hits and struck out eight over seven innings of one-run ball to lead the Red Sox to a 5-1 victory over the Tigers in the finale of a four-game set at Comerica Park. Beckett improved to 4-and-2 with the victory as Boston took three-of-four in the series and has won six of its last seven overall. Kevin Youkilis had a two-run homer and Jason Varitek added a two-run single for the BoSox. Ramon Santiago plated the only run for the Tigers, who have dropped six-of-seven to fall to 15-and-21 on the season. Justin Verlander surrendered all five runs over six frames to fall to 1-and-6 with the loss.
We knew (we hoped) the Sox could bounce back from last night’s kick in the pants and with Beckett on the mound, our chances were pretty good. The Tigers have struggled and would have been swept had it not been for the dumb luck and miscues of yesterday.
Indeed, from the second inning on, Beckett had [...]
Things We Actually Like: “Charlie Rose” by Samuel Beckett — Who are we not to jump on this bandwagon and run this vid? Every blog is doing it.

Saw this on newteevee and it blew my mind (something a video project rarely does). Here’s “Charlie Rose by Samuel Beckett”: a brilliant, rather-eerie, must-see 3min-37sec video by artist/filmmaker Andrew Filippone Jr. (Hitting replay just compounds the experience of a Beckettian loop. A taste of the future of technology.)

Red Sox 'Ace' and media darling Josh 'Blisters' Beckett has been scratched from his start tonight against the Angels with a stiff neck. Note to Peter Gammons, Bob Ryan and all living human beings at ESPN - this is yet another reason to wait until he shows he can perform in back-to-back years before annointing him Ace of the World.
This YouTube video made me laugh than most louder than any internet video I've seen in a long time. Simple, bizarre and brilliantly executed.Spread this one around. It's been out for a month and not many have actually seen it.
NYY: RHP Mike Mussina (1-2, 4.15 ERA)Mussina's previous outing against the Red Sox will be remembered almost exclusively for his decision in the sixth inning, when he opted to pitch to Manny Ramirez instead of Kevin Youkilis with first base open. Mussina allowed a two-run double up the gap that helped the Red Sox post a 4-3 victory over the Yankees. Still, he has been consistent this season, lasting five innings or more in seven consecutive starts dating back to Sept. 12. Over that stretch, he is 4-2 with a 3.64 ERA, allowing 17 earned runs in 42 innings. BOS: RHP Josh Beckett (1-1, 6.35 ERA)Beckett proved last weekend that his back woes are finally over. In a 4-3 victory over the Yankees at Fenway Park on Saturday, Beckett gave up five hits and three runs over 6 2/3 innings, walking one

RedSox.com is confirming that Josh Beckett isn’t taking part in the tour in Japan the Red Sox have to start the 2008 season. Beckett is still coming back from those back spasms that have scratched his past starts.
No brainer. Beckett is way to important to the club to worry about trotting him out over in [...]
Josh Beckett was scratched from his scheduled start on Monday due to a bad back. The injury has picked up attention now, and it appears Beckett will not make the trip to Japan. First Curt Schilling and now Beckett face injuries in the Red Sox rotation, which was believed as invincible.
Beckett is expected to be back in early April, but was scheduled to be the Sox opening day starter in Japan
Reported By Stephen RhodesThe good news for the Boston Red Sox is that ace Josh Beckett's MRI indicate that a disc problem is not the culprit of his current back problem. But Beckett intends not to throw again until the issue is resolved; he told ESPN.com, "We're going to make sure it's completely pain-free. I can't even, really, if lying in one position too long, or sitting in one position too long or standing in one position too long, it kind of goes backwards. I've got to keep moving and stuff like that."Beckett left Saturday's game against the Florida Marlins without facing a batter when he was bothered by back spasms while throwing his warmup pitches; he stated that his condition, as opposed to improving on Monday, had actually gotten worse. As previously mentioned, an MRI was taken o
Josh Beckett woke up today turned into a real MLB hero. After thinking their hopes to keep fighting for the American League Championship were almost vanished, Beckett saved the day and beat the Cleveland Indians, ending up on a surprising 7-1 score. Boston Red Sox won game 5 and proved to be “back in the game”.
Not even the distraction of having his own ex-girlfriend (Danielle Peck) singing the National Anthem was enough to stop the great effort made by Beckett to stand in Cleveland’s way. The Indians only had time to get one run before Josh taught them a good pitching lesson. This Red Sox star made a flawless job and gave Boston a second chance to make it right and get right to the World Series.
Now it’s a matter of common sense for Boston: They’re 0-3 on the games where Beckett was not the starter. And they’re 2-0 on the ones Beckett did start. Need I say more? If these guys want to have real chances of repeating history they will have to throw the next game
If you didn't already know this Josh Beckett is fantastic. After the game last night he dropped a line that if I was 8 years younger would without a doubt have been my high school yearbook quote: "I don't get paid to make these fucking decisions." Absolutely fantastic. Also it's official Beckett was happy that Danielle Peck was in the crowd last night and you know "God Bless America" wasn't the last time he saw her yesterday. After the jump thanks to the world beaters at Barstool Sports check out Beckett in all his glory.
2007 has been quite a year for Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett. He was the only 20 game winner in MLB this season, in fact the only 20 game winner since the end of the 2005 season! He looks to be the front runner for the Cy Young award, and his team the Boston Red Sox won the American League East for the first time in 12 years and are hosting the L.A. Angels in the A.L.D.S. What Do you do for an encore? How about joining some MLB legends in the Post Season record books.Beckett is now tied for second place in career Post Season shutouts with three, putting his name next to Whitey Ford and Mordechai "Three Fingers" Brown. They all trail the "Big Train" Walter Johnson with four. This after absolutely hypnotizing the Angels Wednesday night in Game One of the A.L.D.S. 4-0. Beckett allowed only 4 hits over his complete game victory, striking out 8 in the process.Los Angeles starter John Lackey had what would usually be considered a "quality start" allowing 4 runs on 9 hits in 6 innings.
Josh Beckett doesn't lose in October. In the 2003 World Series, he went to the Bronx on three days' rest and pitched a complete game shutout. Every poll in the last week shows that most of America believes that the Yankees will get to the World Series. But first, they must get through the Red Sox, who beat the Angels last night off another complete game shutout from Beckett. New Yorkers have to
Is he one of the best postseason pitchers?
To understand the difficulty of what Red Sox ace Josh Beckett did Wednesday night at Fenway Park, first you have to know that his was the 124th shutout in the 104 years of postseason play. Not bad. Beckett has three of those 124 shutouts himself; only the great Christy Mathewson, with four, ever threw more. Even better.
But what you really need to know is how many times in those 124 postseason shutouts that the pitcher allowed no walks and no extra-base hits while striking out as many as eight batters. I’ll give you the entire list here:
Coming into Thursday's start, it seemed like Josh Beckett had a pretty easy path to his first Cy Young award. He already had 20 wins, and getting his 21st would have put him two ahead of his next closest AL competitors (Carmona and Wang, neither of whom will be making another regular season start). His opponent was the Twins, who aren't exactly known for their offensive firepower. They rank 12th of 14 AL teams in R/G, and are without catcher Joe Mauer. It's not like Beckett had to pitch a shutout or anything- all he really needed to do was get win #21- that two win margin probably would have been enough for the voters.Well, things didn't quite work out as Beckett and the Red Sox had probably envisioned. Beckett single runs in the first, second, third, fifth, and sixth innings. He was pulled after six innings and 99 pitches, with Boston down 5-3. Their rally in the ninth of closer Joe Nathan fell short, and, rather than adding to his win total, Beckett was tagged with his 7th los
It was billed as a game between dueling Cy Young candidates. Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett and New York Yankees hurler Chien-Ming Wang both went into Saturday's contest at Fenway Park with identical 18-6 records. Boston fans expected to see a classic pitchers duel take place in front of them. But as so many of these over hyped matchups turn out, this one did not meet the fans expectations. Beckett held up his end of the bargain, going seven innings giving up just one run on three hits. But Wang did not deliver for New York making his way into the sixth with two out but giving up five runs on nine hits. Boston won the game 10-1, pushing their lead back up to 5.5 games and shrinking their magic number down to nine. Any combination of Boston wins and or New York losses that add up to nine would give Boston the A.L. East Division title. New York has won the division for nine straight years. Beckett goes to 19-6, Wang drops to 18-7. Eric Hinske went 2-4 for Boston with a double and a

Last Sunday, Josh Beckett started against the Orioles. Through seven innings he had pitched pretty well, allowing two runs while striking out eight. The score was 2-2 after the 7th, and he had thrown 116 pitches- he was done for the afternoon. The Red Sox scored in the top of the 8th on a Coco Crisp single, Okajima and Papelbon combined to give up one hit over the last two innings, and Beckett got his AL-leading 18th win.I don't think anyone would argue that wins and ERA are the two biggest factors in the Cy Young voting. It also quite clear, to met at least, that Josh Beckett's season thus far would have been just as good if the Red Sox hadn't scored in the top of the eighth, and if he was 17-6 right now, rather than 18-6.Problem is, that's not how the voting works. The voting is done by the BBWAA, and their members are strangely obsessed with wins, because they think pitchers have control over games beyond how many runs they allow. This leads to some absurd results, such as
'Waiting for Godot' by Samuel Beckett is one of my most favourite dramas. It is a typical example of an Absurd drama, although Beckett himself would have rejected that tag. The drama moves in circular motion - ending from where it all begun. The second act too is on the same pattern as the first one. The play begins with Estragon saying, "Nothing to be done." This is probably the conclusion of the play. So we have to be alive till we are dead.Normally a play moves from point A to point B but the case of 'Waiting for Godot' is different. Another important part of any play is the characters. But there are no such characters in this play who grow, develop. Then witty dialogues like in other plays are absent here. There is repetition of dialogues, which are more like monosyllables or very short ones. There are more silences.
Boston Red Sox starter Josh Beckett coming off the disabled list, picked right up where he left off winning his eighth game in a row, as Boston defeated the Cleveland Indians Tuesday night by a 4-2 margin. Beckett, went seven innings allowing only three hits in his return. Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis extended his hitting streak to 21 games with a RBI double and a homer. Youkilis has multiple hits in nine consecutive games the most for a Red Sox player since Jim Rice in 1978. Jeremy Sowers saw his record go to 1-5 as he took the loss for the Tribe. He had his only victory of the season in his last start, and is probably a good candidate to be sent down to Triple A Buffalo after Jake Westbrooki returns from the DL. Westbrook will make his first rehab start on Friday for Buffalo.(c) Copyright thesackattack.com 2007
Although he’s been put on the 15-day DL as of May 14, 2007 with an injured right middle finger, The Boston Red Sox pitcher extraordinaire, Josh Beckett has once again been ripping it up. In this 2007 season Beckett has posted a 7-0 record with a 2.66 ERA and 50.2 innings pitched and has been leading The Boston Red Sox to a commanding 9.5 game lead over their competitors in the American League East (It is worth noting the BoSox are a full 10.5 games up on the New York Yankees in the division).
Josh Beckett was a 1st round (2nd overall) draft pick by the Florida Marlins in 1999, and became the first high school pitcher to be selected in the first round by The Florida Marlins, bypassing college baseball and moving straight into Single-A ball. Josh was named Marlins Rookie of the Year by the South Florida chapter of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America after going 2-2 with a 1.50 ERA (4 ER/24.0 IP) in 4 starts for the Marlins after a September 1 promotion from Double-A
I found the below article by James Beckett on the definition of spirituality interesting, i have also found my own green spirituality and have called it “Grene’ac” or “Green Oak” spirituality; i called it this because it is only personal to me with regards to how i practice my own spirituality; i would also recommend others to name their own spiritual paths too. ~ Dave
Spirituality - Your Inner Truth by James Beckett
The definition of spirituality has changed over the decades. It used to be that spirituality was confined to the dogmatic approaches to religion and the structure of churches. However, in these belief systems, there came the idea of faith and the eventual leading to faith in other things and beings besides the idea of God or some other figure.
For example, the practice of Buddhism, while considered a religion, is not entirely (more…)
