I was looking through my bead stash to pick out colours for my beaded DeLorean DMC-12 when I realized I have many choices of seed beads!First I looked through my gray beads, then I looked through my metallic beads...Then, I remembered I had these:These are some of the beads I purchased in the Czech Republic! They are steel-coloured glass seed beads. Hex cuts and bugles. I'm not sure, but I think t

Let’s be completely honest. The stuff all of us love buying from Forever 21 isn’t the best quality. Most of it is an exact replica of something from our favorite runways and even if it isn’t knocked-off, the clothes are sure to fall apart sooner than you want and the necklaces turn you or themselves [...]

As I was leaving, I saw an old Korean man struggling to put some glass bottle
I should never have accumulated a stash. Now it takes forever weighing options about what to do with this or that. There are no right answers, maybe not even any best answers. MILTON-FREEWATER - When Pat Dirr and Julie Culjak enrolled in one of Geri Honn's bead classes at Suncatcher Studio in Milton- Freewater, they had no idea they were about to enter a business partnership. "We were all talking about how someone ought to open a place locally to buy beads," said Dirr, who originally had no intention of being that "someone." Culjak couldn't agree more."I had just moved here in July and signed up for classes to meet people," she said. Culjak also noted that once a rental site had been found, she had to quickly catch her husband up to speed. "I didn't think we were serious. I hadn't even told him yet," she said. But what Dirr, Culjak and Honn have created is a unique bead boutique for beaders with all tastes and abilities. "We really tried to make it homey," said C
In the past weeks, I've received various emails on requesting ideas on using these small beads on layouts and projects. I've actually used them quite a few times in my work. I've tried using them to make small frames for a necklace, embellishing on flowers and etc. In my latest layout, I've tried to add them into my hand stitching work. I love the effect. It gives a more detailed look. I've also tried the two tones cross stitching technique here.
As shown in the picture, the flower uses the round beads and other beads that have the similar shape with the fish fin. Both the beads have the shine on it so this craft project result will be nice.
It is also easy to made. Just first, take your light green of paint then smear to [...]
It's time to confess. My name is Romona and I'm a beadaholic. I had to show you something that I think is just the best thing to come along for beaders. Now of course I have no idea if something better exists, but I'm really enjoying this and in my never ending quest to get organized, I am always on the prowl for "organizers" for everything, but only those that make complete sense. Two years of blogging is hard work! I need a vacation! So, today, I'm headed to Prague, Czech Republic. Prague, or Praha, is a city I've always wanted to visit ever since I saw that INXS video. And, when I heard they made beads there, I knew I had to go.... So, all day yesterday, I did a little preparing for my trip. One thing I was thinking about was bringing some beadwork with me to do on the flight or in the hotel. I have packed beads to go before, but usually only on road trips. I read Jean Campbell's Tips For Beading on Vacation, and was amazed at all the different ideas people had. I'm actually amazed at how many people bring beadwork to do on vacation. It seems there's so much sightseeing to do and beer to drink - when would there ever be time??I thought about this, then I remembere

View More Works by This Master Norigae, or pendant trinket with a maedeup ornament, is a customary fashion item worn on the breast tie or the waist of hanbok, the traditional Korean dress. Usually Korean people preferred a pendant with an odd number of maedeup tassels, usually one and three. Three is particularly favored because it is regarded as a sacred number.Luxuriously ornamented with three rows of triple amber beads symbolizing the 3000 heavens of Buddhism and three pairs of decorative knots of wang (a Chinese character meaning ‘king’) on the tassel heads, this type of pendant was once only worn by a queen.

(click to enlarge)Funny. Before I took the above photo, those two shades of shell-coloured size 11 seed beads looked almost exactly the same! The darker colour is Shell, and the lighter colour is Matte Opaque Dark Cream. The camera flash can work wonders, sometimes - can you see the difference?? If I ever finish beading this section of my beaded Beatles Yellow Submarine, I'll probably layer the darker shade of beads to help differentiate between the two. Of course, I'll probably run out of beads before that. After I become completely bored of beading the same colour for hours upon hours... :0
Rudraksha beads, the holy beads scientifically called as Elaeocarpus Ganitrus. A collage using marbled paper, linen, handmade paper beads, scrapbook paper, rice paste and buttonhole twist thread. 8x10" on fluted black matboard.Although I did some planning before gluing, some of this is done on the fly, spontaneously. Every element affects every other element, moving one piece or changing size or shape seems to require adjustments in other areas and I really wanted to utilize the design on the beautiful gold metallic marbled paper as well. Sky, clouds, rocks, and a stream are represented by the background paper, so it's a very important design element.collage is really interesting artwork to create, I am having a great time with these! Thanks for looking at my work!

When purchasing beads, you must be very careful. You don't want to end up with beads that are not worth a thing to you. Selecting beads takes a lot of thought and I'm not talking about plastic beads that children use to make jewelry. I mean the higher quality ones used to make grown up jewelries.
Avoid cheap plastic beads. This may be suitable for some pieces, but it isn't very durable or very

I made this bracelet with someone in mind. It will be a Xmas present for her. This bracelet consists of matte rainbow "E" beads, heart shaped rose quartz, red rectangular faceted glass bead, green 8mm swarovski crystal (a bit out of place but included because this is her favorite color), bali spacers and 3mm round garnet.
Something simple but very bright red rectangular faceted glass beads matched with 6mm bicone swarovski crystals for these pendant and earrings. This is made on request from a friend. This time around I wrapped them with gold filled wire as she will be wearing her own gold chain with the pendant.

Here's my first idea for small DYI presents for this holiday season*: Another glass bead project. I love these little glass beads that are found in craft stores or dollar stores, usually with the floral supplies. And I love micro-glass beads even more - I actually found my little collection at a very good dollar store that has a wicked craft/scrapbooking section (don't tell anyone, but I even buy tiny canvases from there too - and funky paper and plain frames and boxes). It's a lot of fun to create personalized magnets with them (I had a post about the how-to a few months ago, so I won't go over too much technical detail). This time, instead of just using pictures to glue on the underside, I decided to try some more dimensional designs on the surface. I used Tacky Glue to make swirls or lines on the surface of the glass bead, then dipped it in the micro-glass bead container - easy peasy! You can also use ModPodge or plain white glue - they all dry clear and give an excellent result

To create beautiful polymer clay beads for your fine art jewelry, there are a number of steps you should take to ensure that right from the beginning you’re able to make a rather professional, artistic product, in an economical way. Article from http://www.eArtfair.com/blog
FIRST THE BASICS: TIPS FOR USING POLYMER CLAY
1. Be a clean worker. That maeans work on clean surfaces and ensure clean hands. This practice keeps your work looking smooth and bright.
2. Polymer clay is typically softened by the heat of hands. Just knead it gently when taking it out of the pack.
3. Do not over- or under-bake your polymer clay. Instead, follow the instruction of your particular polymer clay (brand and type) you are using exactly, and you will get your baking just right. Each clay is slightly different and manufacturers will inform you of its unique nature and baking requirement.
4. While general household tools are useful for workin
This week, the Chinese announced they were planning on diversifying their $1.3 trillion dollars into other currencies. Everyone began bemoaning doom and gloom, but I seem to remember a few years ago that everyone was concerned with the amount of US Dollars China had. In addition, China has kept their currency intentionally low against the world’s currencies as they have exploded.
So, the US has naturally low dollar values, making it cheap for people to buy dollars. The Chinese have announced they are thinking about selling these dollars. If this is gun rattling, nothing has changed. If this is the truth, then it is probably good for the long term health of the Dollar.
On top of this mess. China has been shipping over games with pieces coated in date-rape drugs.
Is this some kind of sneak attack?
‘Hey America! we’re going to really mess you over! We are going to sell you your money back at less than we bought it for and then we are going to send even more dangerous toy
This recall comes shortly after a stories emerged from both Australia and New Zealand that when children swallow these beads there is a adhesive (1,4-Butanediol) on the beads that metabolizes into gamma-hydroxybutyric acid, better known as Liquid Fantasy or GHB.
Liquid Fantasy is the street-name for a known date-rape drug because it causes a loss of inhibition and short-tern amnesia. Children who swallow the beads can become comatose, develop respiratory depression, or have seizures.
A 20-month-old child swallowed several dozen beads. He became dizzy and vomited several times before slipping into a comatose state for a period of time, was hospitalized, and has since fully recovered. A second child also vomited and slipped into a comatose state and was hospitalized for five days.” ~ U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission | Press Release

A small sampling of the great beads and designs you’ll find at Surf City Beads in Fountain Valley, California.
The Orange County Register had a great little story last week about a bead store located in Orange County, California named Surf City Beads.
And while a lot of us discovered beads for the first time in the last couple years, the family of owner Kerry Kaufman has been making bead jewelry for over 70 years! Here’s a quick quote form the article:
My mom got me and my sister into beading. I remember her taking me to a little bead shop next to our house to pick out beads. My parents immigrated from England in the 1950s, but until then, all of my family was there.
When my mom was a little girl, she used to watch her father make jewelry during the war.
The story goes on to profile Surf City Beads as a business and highlights some of the things they’re doing to keep customers happy and market themselves to keep ahead of the competition. It’s a true business
Did you even know these existed? We have had some for a while but I have not as of yet put them to personal use, but I love the idea. For Protestants who do not have a fear of looking too much like a Catholic they can be really a great tool! These prayer beads serve basically the same purpose the Five Finger Prayer lesson did when I was little only with more depth. The Five Finger Prayer was a tangible way of focusing a child's prayer time, prayer beads can do the same for adults. There is much symbolism in the beads themselves. They tell the story of the Gospel.Christian Prayer Beads begin with the cross, the ultimate Christian symbol, and thirty-three beads (representing the numbers of years Christ lived on earth) in four groups of seven called weeks. Among other things, these groups of seven represent the days of Creation and the Biblical number for perfection. These are separated by four (usually larger) beads which are called the "Cruciform" beads because they form the po

Working out nearly every day has serious advantages. The days I work out I’m waaaay less of a Yelly Mom and anyone who has ever had a Yelly Mom can totally agree. I love the relaxed feeling I get when I’m walking out of the gym, satisfied with how hard I worked, not to mention the 6 minutes in the tanning bed that rejuvenates me in a way that is akin to sticking rays of sunshine up my butt.
We switched locations of the gym chain I attend because the ladies only version is newer and cleaner than the gym I originally signed up with. The one I signed up with was darker, kinda dingy and let’s just be nice and say the new one, despite being ladies only? Did not have one hair in the shower drain and that, my friends, is extremely important to a girl who would shave her head if it was socially acceptable. But not in a Britney way, okay?
Unfortunately, I couldn’t bring my awesome trainer with me so that kinda blows. I’m hoping the new one calls soon to set u

Who doesn’t love to make Fimo Bead? well, me. However, my wife does very much and she asked me to write a post on this subject, on her behalf, for those who like to spend time making Fimo Beads. In this installment of How to Make Fimo Beads we will learn, in few simple stages, the process of creating Fimo beads. The arts and design however, are on you.
Fimo beads are handmade beads that originally came from South Africa. They are generally made of polymer clay, but they can be created from nearly any kind of malleable material that anyone can purchase at a hobby or craft store. Once a set of beads have been created, they can be used to make many different kinds of jewelry, including necklaces and bracelets.
Ingredients
To make Fimo beads, it is important to assemble all of your materials before you begin. You will need polymer clay (or any other type of malleable clay-like material that may be available to you. You will also need some sort of device to help you make
Last day of my resources week. Today it is a site called Beads & Pieces. Just like it sounds ---- beads and lots and lots of pieces. They have a great selection of natural beads such as coconut shell, wood and horn. I buy from them often and they are fast and the products are always nice. I like this new item they have in the banana wood bead section. Pretty heart and just seems so natural.Happy Friday, happy shopping and see you next week!Amy
Here is something special and easy to do. Seens this summer, the most popular color will be gold, these gold + yellowish bracelet is the most suitable for the seasson. Its very simple to do. Just some pearl yellow beads, some plastic round orange yellow long beads (I brought this very cheap long long time ago, RM1 for whole big pack, the color is abit hard to mix and match else where, but here it is very suitable), some elastic string and finally a golden ribbon. Just fill in the beads on 2 different bracelet. Later tie a small cute ribbon on top of both. That's all. So easy and simple.Me wearing the bracelet :)
This I always wanted to do, cause I have alot beads and buttons at home and wanting to use them all for crafts. The seller seiyaleo is somemore a Malaysian. Malaysia people do crafts too. Here is her blog.
So I started doing memes earlier but many of Sunday ones weren't posted yet -- they are starting to come online now so I'll do all I can find. Remember I'm in a sleep deprived state so be kind to me when you view my answers.
This one is Word Beads -
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to string the words below with other words of your choosing to fashion a sentence, several sentences, a paragraph, several paragraphs, a poem, or even a short story.
The words: Straight, Inasmuch, Enrage, Scholastic, Disadvantage
And I don't even have to look any of these up in the dictionary.
Inasmuch as she was at a scholastic disadvantage because of her learning disability, she still was able to graduate with a high grade point average. It always seemed to enrage her when others could go straight to making A's without a bit of studying.

This addiction of mine is affecting my sleep and sub-conscious mind. Or is it because in the past few weeks I have been surrounded by beads from Canada and US? I don't know but last night I dreamed I was shopping or window shopping for beads in a town (not sure where it was but the building I entered was quite old). While looking around, the building started to shake - it's earthquake!

These mood beads change color with the temperature of the surrounding air!
I was at a craft show this weekend and I saw these strange beads that changed into all sorts of wild colors this weekend for the first time. It turns out they’re called “mood beads” and they’re still relatively rare to find!
I’ve written about Sol Beads that change color based on how much sunlight they’re exposed to, but these beads are a little different. Remember the mood rings of the sixties? These beads take the same basic idea and update it for modern times. They’re promoted as “thermo-sensitive liquid crystal beads that change color as you wear them” which means that they change color as the temperature changes. But instead of just being embedded in a chunky ring, these mood beads come in all sorts of shapes and sizes! There are traditional barrel beads of different sizes and shapes, but there are also pendants and small rings and a number of ot

As beads serve multiple purposes and can be used for creative work like jewelry making, crafts, handbags, and the like, they are gaining popularity among women and kids. Apart from this, craftsmen and artisans use these beads to enhance the value of their product. They combine these beads along with their weaves to create beautiful patterns. Creativity gets a new horizon when one starts working with beadsAmong a wide range of beads available on the market, they are classified on the basis of their color, size, cut, finish and availability. Certain beads are widely available and hence cost less, where as beads like pearl and Swarovski crystal are rare, precious and expensive.Suppliers boast of their collection of beads, and import these beads from different corners of the world to meet the increasing demand. They then supply the beads to local markets, and give great bargains if bought in bulk. When going for bead purchases, there is a wide variety available. You can choose your beads ba
They don’t look like much, but these were probably used by ancient man (and woman!) to create primitive bead jewelry!
They don’t look very decorative, but scientists have once again found some of the oldest man-made “beads” ever discovered! These 82,000 year old small snail shells have evidence of a red paint applied to the sides and obvious stringing holes drilled into them by someone long, long ago.
Last year another discovery of ancient shell beads was reported, but this latest finding of beads seems to be much older than the first. National Geographic is reporting the find.
From the article:
In a paper published in the June issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the archaeologists suggest that the beads mark a shift in human development and the beginnings of modern cultural behavior.
“We think that they were capable of thinking symbolically and able to use one thing to represent another,” Nick Barton said.

Isaac Mizrahi for Target® Tankini with Beads - Ebony. An understated but striking tankini top, adding sleek style to your poolside look. Isaac’s talent for restyling classic looks gives the traditional halter-top suit a sexy twist. Strap cut-outs draw attention to your face without distracting from your figure.
UV Sensitive Beads are fun to play around with, it is interesting to see that there is no UV light present in indoor light and there it lots available in natural sun light. There are so many possibilities, bracelets, secret words with letters made of different colored beads, kids guessing games, etc. On the label it shows pictures of blue, orange, yellow, pink and purple beads. But the bag of beads didn’t contain blue and orange beads so don’t expect to get a variety of all colors. Thanks to Edmund Scientific for providing the beads.
“Solar Beads contain photochromatic dyes that react to UV light and cause the normally white beads to change into vibrant colors when exposed to the sun or UV emitting black light. Then, when removed from sunlight, the beads revert back to white.”
Isaac Mizrahi for Target® Swim Skirt with Beads - Ebony. Basic black is always flattering, but Isaac adds a touch of beaded detail to this swimwear to take it a step further. Skirtini style shows just-enough skin for a flirty look. Skirtini Bottom.

So, I am beginning to ponder Baby 2.
Though I had no problems conceiving last time, there is no guaranteeing the same luck with Baby 2. You see, according to Victoria Jennings, Ph.D, Director of Georgetown University’s Institute for Reproductive Health, approximately 20% of women who do not become pregnant fail because they do not know when they are fertile.
Enter CycleBeads, the fashionista’s answer to an ovulation chart! This pretty, rosary-style, contraption (developed by Georgetown University’s Institute for Reproductive Health), enables a woman to easily identify her 12-day “fertile window”. The CycleBeads are ever so easy to use: you simply move a black ring over a series of color-coded beads that represent her fertile and low fertility days. The day a woman starts her period she puts the
Color changing Sol Beads jewelry change from white to bright colors depending UV light exposure.
With the weather finally beginning to get warmer and everyone starting to spend much more time outside in the sun, I thought I would show you to a really amazing type of bead jewelry that helps remind you to be careful about getting too much sunlight at one time.
How can a piece of bead jewelry do that? By changing color in UV light! Patricia Swanson was a science teacher whose dear friend had a struggle with skin cancer. Patricia knew a thing or two about how sunlight works, so she put together UV Sol Beads - simple beaded jewelry pieces that are an opaque white inside, but turn bright colors depending upon how much UV light they are exposed to! They can turn from while to full color over 50,000 times!
You don’t even have to wear them as jewelry. You can tie them to your purse or stroller or any part of your clothing that will be exposed to sunlight just as your skin will be. A

I planned on wearing light colored swimwear this Summer but I saw these brown tankini with beaded and embroidery details on them and I was sold. Originally priced at $11.88 each but were on sale for $9.98. Yes. they’re sold separately. Why? As I told my husband, so the buyer could pick and match as she likes. They all have coordinates but it’s fun to mismatch sometimes. I picked a boy shorts for it instead of the bikini because I was also looking at an aqua blue pair in bikini. I didn’t wanna get 2 bikinis, yah know. But yeah, I bought this tankini and boy shorts first. I’ll go back for the aqua blue with beads bikini some other time. BTW, the halter top is backless. Ahh I can’t wait to wear ‘em this Summer. You can bet your bottom I’m doubling my work-out sessions…LOL.
I decided not to buy this and this since the brown tankini and boy shorts pair were cheaper. I’m always down for the bargains

A sample of the divinely beautiful prayer beads at FullCircleBeads.com
I was in my local bead shop the other day and browsing through all the new pendendants they had gotten in when I saw a woman on the other side of the table who was piling on pieces like there was no tomorrow. Most of them were cross pendants of one form or another, most were sterling silver but a few were made of jade or some other colored stone. I said hello and we started talking. It turns out she was teaching a class at the local senior center on how to make your own prayer beads just in time for Easter. But then she told me that she normally makes her own Rosaries and regularly sells them at craft shows and church bazaars!
I came home and started looking into this and it turns out the the Rosary is just one of many different types of prayer beads one can use in a variety of different faiths and religions. In fact, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam many different faiths of Christianity and even some Native Ameri
