A Visit To Maker Faire Bay Area 2008
The United States is a nation of tinkerers. We build, we modify, and we extend. We like to make devices do things that they are not designed to do, just to know that we've done it. This spirit was alive and well over the weekend at the San Mateo County Expo at the Maker Faire Bay Area. The Maker Faire was an absolute blast. I heartily recommend it to geeks of all kinds.

Foreclosures quadruple in state, Bay Area
Lenders took back 6,579 homes in the nine-county Bay Area during the first quarter, up from 1,493 a year ago and 4,573 in the fourth quarter, according to a report released by DataQuick on Tuesday. Throughout California, 47,171 homes were foreclosed on, up from 11,032 a year ago. The regional and state figures are now at their highest level in more than 15 years. It's just the newest benchmark in a housing crisis that has set one after another. The national real estate downturn reached critical levels last summer as resetting subprime loans and falling home values precipitated growing numbers of defaults and eventually an international liquidity crisis. The big jump in foreclosures will place additional pressure on home prices, which could lead to further foreclosures, economists say.

      V/A - Bay Area Dubstep
MySpace Full Melt Recordings

      Another Strong Bay Area Showing
This past week, James Beard Foundation announced their nominees for the 2008 James Beard Foundation Awards. Like last year, the Bay Area food community is well-represented. Boulevard and The Slanted Door, two perennial San Francisco favorites, are up for the Outstanding Restaurant Award. While not a clean sweep like last year, four of the five nominees in the Best Chef in the Pacific Region (California and Hawaii) are from the Bay Area: Douglas Keane of Cyrus, Craig Stoll of Delfina, and Michael Tusk of Quince are repeat nominees from last year, with David Kinch of Manresa joining them on the list of nominees.Nate Appleman of A16 and SPQR is a repeat nominee in the Rising Star Chef of the year. The collection agencies refused to honor the Celick's requests to stop calling. High-end home sales soar in Bay Area
The Bay Area's rich are still snapping up high-end properties for record sums. On Friday, a mystery shopper agreed to buy the unfinished penthouse at the Millennium Tower for $11 million. That's $2,288.81 for each of the San Francisco property's 4,800 square feet, a range rarely exceeded even when the space is built out - that is to say, when it actually includes walls and finishes. The buyer, who wasn't identified per the building owner's policy, put down $1 million to begin the escrow process.

Visitor's Guide to San Francisco Bay Area - Part 1
One of the most sought-after tourist destinations in USA has to be the city of San Francisco, which, like New York, is termed as the city that never sleeps. A beautifully designed city on the Bay at the western coast of US, this place has something interesting, exciting and fulfilling to offer to every individual; whether you are a nature-lover, a water-sports person, love architecture and history, are an avid shopper, an adventurer or a foodie like me, you will never be disappointed in SFO, and will always come back for more too! But 2 days is a very short time to capture the essence of the city; ideally, you at least need a week to revel and appreciate what SFO has to offer. But not many of us have the luxury to spend more than a weekend for short getaways. So as a resident of this area who loves travelling and blogging, I am honored to play a guide to your San Francisco Bay trip, guiding you through the must-see places and tourist attractions in and around the city, and making sure

Screen Talk: Happy Dallas = NJ + Bay Area
On Friday 28th September Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days created a new record with the biggest ever attendance for a telugu movie in USA. Dallas telugu movie market is typically about 50% of the NJ and about 40% of Bay area markets. On Friday 500 watched Happy Days in bay area and about 700 in NJ. 1157 people watched it in Dallas, which means almost the number which is equal to NJ and Bay area put together( 500+700=1200). It is just unprecedented and happened on the same day the hyped ‘Chirutha’ got released.

De Young - Bay Area Figurative - Richard Diebenkorn
On Friday We went to the De Young. I like the building. I even like the mesh now. There was one flaw, the top viewing deck is “elevator only”, ridiculous. We met a friend of Amy’s Joe Mangrum. Does ephemeral art. I liked the Hiroshimo Sugimoto exhibit, the suble siplicity of the seascapes and the art about art idea is present in his long warrior photo. The best for me was learning from Amy about the Bay area Figurative school. (Good summary, More NYT) I liked the Richard Diebenkorn I saw.

Bay Area Depreciation by Zip Code
DQNews.com has an interesting list of residential resale values for each zip code in the Bay Area.  The table compares June 2007 to the prior year and shows absolute and percentage changes in sales volume and median price.  I'm glad to see this data, since it confirms my earlier hunch about the flight to quality in a downward trending market.  In Contra Costa county (my neck of the hood), the better school district zip codes of Lafayette, Moraga, and Orinda are worlds apart, and are faring much better, compared to the eastern part of the county (Antioch, Pittsburg, Oakley, etc.).  This is not to say that the 'good zips' won't get hit later -- and I think they will -- but it shows the importance of buying in the right areas to decrease market volatility risk exposure.  There is still money to be made in these market conditions, but it is critical to stick to the fundamentals and make sure you are making money on the purchase of the property rather than hopin

      Indian-Chaat Place, Bay Area, CA
Anyone who's spent even one day in India knows what "chaat" means....The first drops of rain would send people flocking to the chaat places, and now the craze has reached such a crescendo that be it any season or any time of the day, chaat-mania never dies!!! The mouth-watering taste of the "chutneys" (tamarind and green chilly sauces) and the mind-boggling smell of the entire concoction is sure to leave its mark on anyone, not just an indian!!So here's an ode to one such eating joint called Chaat Paradise, located in a small corner of a huge complex in mountainview. The restaurant is hardly noticeable from outside, yet it draws huge crowds during lunch and weekends simply based on the word-of-mouth of its delighted and satisfied patrons like me. Its menu is pretty extensive with a large variety of appetizers and chaat dishes, and you'd be happy to pick out any one of them from the list. but my favourites are the "Hara-Bhara Sprout Bhel" and the "Dahi batata sev puri". Top 5 Reasons the Bay Area Rocks the Wine World
      1. Wineries are all over the place. You can drive to the north, south, or east, and within 2 hours, explore Napa, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Santa Cruz Mountains, Livermore, Monterey, and those are just a few. Plus, the vineyards make for great scenery, as you drive along highways and backroads alike, charting the progress of the grapes. 2. Tastings are always going on somewhere. The big ones like ZAP, Rhone Rangers, and the SF Chronicle Wine Competition gather hundreds of wines under one roof, all for the spitter to enjoy at a vigorous pace of tasting. On a smaller scale, many wine shops and restaurants conduct tastings on a regular basis. Stores such as BevMo and K & L allow the shopper to sample certain wines prior to making purchases, thereby taking some of the uncertainty out of the equation. 3. Wine-focused restaurants abound. Whether it’s wine bars (check out 750 ml in San Mateo or Vino Locale in Palo Alto) or restaurants with impressive wine lists (favorites f
