Gaming site Game|Life reports that weapons in Battlefield: Bad Company will be up for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace. This comes straight from a screenshot produced from the recently released beta. The in-game “unlocks” menu lists a variety of weapons, some of which read “buy this weapon on Xbox Live Marketplace” when highlighted. The inclusion of microtransactions in EA games has become quite a worrying trend, having players buy the weapons instead of earning them through playing the game. Battlefield Heroes, an upcoming free-to-play multiplayer shooter, will also include microtransactions in a bid to support its free structure.

The United States military is developing a robot with a teddy bear-style head to help remove injured soldiers from the battlefield aka the Battlefield Extraction-Assist Robot. Will someone pinch me please, a teddy bear style head! Whats the reasoning beside such a ridiculous head you ask? The image of a bear is to suppose to "put the wounded at ease." To tell you the truth, if this was coming from Japan, well known as the land of cuteness I wouldn't be this surprised. What if I am a soldier on a future battle field and I get injured, especially at night, if the light so much as reflects funny off one of those hollow eyed contraptions I'm feeding it a grenade.

The New Scientist is reporting that the US army is developing a 1.8 meter tall remote controlled robot codenamed Battlefield Extraction Assist Robot (BEAR) that will be able to travel over bumpy terrain to rescue injured or fallen soldiers. The prototype Bear can lift more than 135 kilograms with one arm, and is being developed by Vecna Technologies of College Park, Maryland. Recently the robot was shown climbing up and down stairs carry a life sized dummy.The BEAR robot can also carry heavy loads over long distances without tiring like a human soldier. The robot can also carry a soldier while kneeling or lying down to avoid detection. The robot's hydraulic arms are designed to pick up loads in a single smooth movement, to avoid causing pain to wounded soldiers. Tracks on both the thighs and shins allow the robot to climb easily over rough terrain or up and down stairs while crouching or kneeling.
