The hot springs at Bath were formed through geothermal means and they became a very popular place for people to relax and enjoy themselves. The Celts built the first shrine there, and on several occasions they have been modified by other civilizations. There is now a museum there were many

      Max’s fear of baths.
When I tell people Max doesn’t like baths, I don’t think they quite get how MUCH he hates them. He screams and shrieks at the top of his voice from the moment his little butt gets wet until he’s out and been thoroughly dried. Let me demonstrate. He doesn’t like his baths… and when he realises that [...]

His face was round, almost cherubic and he smiled as we passed each other in the dark hallway. We passed each other several times, our eyes meeting, looking, waiting. I circled back again, but he was not in sight. As I continued down the hall, I passed an open door. Th

      Rome The Baths of Caracalla
The most imposing Roman baths remaining today are those of Caracalla, south of the Golden House and the Palatine, and those of Diocletian to the north. The Baths of Trajan, probably planned by the architect of his forum, were the model for these later baths. The Baths of Caracalla, second largest in ancient Rome, are the best preserved of all, and give a clearer idea than any others of these great

      Rome: The Baths of Diocletian
The Baths of Diocletian, the largest in ancient Rome, are, paradoxically, both more and less altered than those of Caracalla. Much of the original vaulting still covers the central hall, resting upon eight ancient columns of red granite topped by rich Corinthian capitals. But this hall has been used as a church for about four hundred years, while other parts of the baths have been turned into cloi

Baths of Severus, Palatine, Farnese Gardens beneath the Palace of Tiberius
Enchantment lingers still beneath these arches in this quiet corner of the Palatine. Steep paths, slippery with pine needles, lead down into the deep shadows, where golden broom clings to the old bricks and fills the air with its honey scent. And by the same paths the visitor climbs up again to the ruins of the baths which Severus built above, and to the great curved wall of Domitian's exedra over

Traditional Bathroom Freestanding Baths Style of Bath
Traditional freestanding baths fall into a number of broad categories with regard to their general shape, two other issues of equal importance are the style of foot and the type of tap fittings required. Each of these and the main styles of traditional bath tub shape are described below. The information in this article is about contemporarily manufactured traditional style freestanding baths not antique baths. Bath feet are available in various materials and finishes, cast iron feet must be painted, most often they are painted black, white or the same colour as the bathroom walls. Feet are also available made from brass, either with a polished brass finish (which is often used with gold taps) or in electroplated chrome, gold (usually called antique gold), brushed nickel or bright nickel. Deep Walkin Baths
Many of the homes that we design and build are for the over 55 crowd. I like to call these pre-retirement homes and in many case retirement homes. Many of our clients ask for walk in showers with no tub base. When I saw these walkin baths I thought now our clients have have the best of both worlds. We can install one of these walkin bath tubs so that folks can just open the door and step in.RemainActive.com has a whole line of these walkin baths to choose from. The tubs range in price from $2000 to $5000. The site offers quite a bit of information about all the advantages of owning one of these tubs. The Battle Between Steam Baths And Far Infrared Saunas
By: Thomas Oak Each one has its own good points. Also, each one has it drawbacks. To say that one is superior to the other is inaccurate. The best way to determine which will be more helpful and effective is to assess your own requirement and current health conditions. At one point you may find steam bath more relaxing and rejuvenating. At another time, you may find FIR sauna more therapeutic and soothing. Below is more detailed and complete evaluation of various criteria of the two: Steam Sauna In a steam sauna, the available air inside the room that makes your body warm is heated. People with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, sinus congestion or allergies are recommended for steam saunas. The steam produced makes it easier to breathe inside. It is regarded as a therapeutic treatment

      I heart baths
I have recently rediscovered the joys of bath-taking:1. they are warm, my house is not -- anyone want to give me some new windows for free?2. i like bubbles. they are fun. Photo courtesy of: http://www.screensavers-tlc.com/thumbs2/bounce22.jpg3. my back / shoulder / neck hurt less when i get out of a bath4. daisy is afraid of water, so she doesn't bug me5. the acoustics are good so i can sing until the water gets cold... i heart singing6. i can't reach the phone from the tubThe big downfall of the bath is the preparation -- getting the temperature right, the percentage of bubbles to water, the height of the water. And, of course, the cleanliness of the bathtub.I'm not getting into a gross dirty tub.I loathe cleaning the tub. Thus, before now, my bath-taking frequency was, well, infrequent.Laziness = 5, bathtub = 0BUT -- I no longer have to be afraid of my dirty tub. I can take baths once again, without fear.drumroll...I have discovered the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser! My cousin Kim recomm

Photo Quiz answer - Crewe Baths
Top photo (obviously) is a snap taken from the path that borders the Valley Brook and looks over towards the town's baths that recently celebrated its 70th birthday. Last Friday, I took some time along Alton Street, down by the brook, trying to get yet another perspective on Crewe life. Although I go to the baths each week with my kids, it always surprises me how substantial the building looks from the side (even through the trees). Well done to David L who posted first, plus the others who also found this week's photo quiz far too easy. I'll have to source something much harder for next week. While I was down there, I also noticed the graffiti that adorns the walls of the Flag Lane bridge. Either side of the brook boasts a bit of humour - vandalism to some, art to others, just a laugh to the rest. You decide...

Master Baths : Plain old bathrooms reinvent themselves as luxury retreats
Once the bathroom was a "strictly utilitarian" spot in the home. People were embarrassed to admit that it was even in the house. Bathrooms were built just large enough to house the basics: a sink, toilet, tub and/or shower. Lighting typically consisted of one fixture, usually above the sink.Ordinary bathrooms into spa-like spaces But over the years, people are spending more money to outfit bathrooms with an assortment of creature comforts. They are making the rooms places where they can escape and pamper themselves.read more | digg storyTags: remodelling, spa, bathroom designs,

      Roman Baths near Puerto Duquesa
Nestled in the hills above Manilva, a 10 minute drive from Puerto Duquesa, are some well hidden Roman Baths (Banos Romanos) which are well worth a visit if you enjoy pampering yourself and don't mind the rustic setting. Manilvalife has some useful background details and directions in this article.Making the most of your visitThe baths are known for their healing properties and the high sulphur content helps a number of different skin complaints as well as having a general toning and smoothing effect. To get the most out of your trip, you need to soak in the baths to soften the skin, then cover yourself in mud and bake in the sun, and then soak in the baths again to wash the mud off. The whole process takes around an hour and would cost you around €60 at a day spa!Finding the mud! It's not immediately obvious where the mud is. In order to find the 'mud wall' you need to head out of the Roman Baths down towards the river. Cross the river - it's not very deep - and head upstream (le

      Crewe baths phone number
It was a tad miserable this morning so we opted for indoor entertainment and took the kids to Crewe baths. We rang up first to a) check that it was open to the public and not a club session, and b) to see if the lads could take some of their own water floats and stuff. Well, having checked in the Thompson and Yellow Pages it appears that the phone number is wrong! Luckily, I have a receipt for the kids' recent lessons and that number is correct: 01270-537790. Apparently, the number has been changed in the last few weeks and was done some time after the 2006-07 directories were sent to print. On a financial note, it's just £7.90 for a family (two adults and up to three kids), which isn't bad if you spend and hour or so getting fit and having fun. So now you know...

      I prefer baths.
My sister and I were going through a bunch of pictures from my wedding while she was here. I really loved our non-traditional, simple backyard wedding - truly I did - and I wouldn’t change a single detail about it (except perhaps to have had my sister and brother there!) but part of me wishes I could have had a fancy shower, like some of the *cough* younger, more traditional brides. I mean, when you’re in your thirties and you’ve been married before and you already have kids, it’s not like you need people to buy you towels and toasters. Still, though, just looking at these adorable bridal shower invitations makes me wish I could have had some fancy little party where I could be the center of attention! I didn’t really even have a shower the first time I got married, either. My ex’s aunt was in charge of planning my “shower” which turned out to be really just a bachelorette party - and a lame one, at that. I wonder if my soon-to-be-marri

      Bubble Baths
Need something to do with cooped up kids? Kerri suggests a bubble bath … a great idea that is usually forgotten. We use it at the end of the day. Our girls get in together, and will typically give us at least 30 minutes to catch up on everything they have pulled out. If we add the bubbles we may be good for another 15 minutes, at least ’til the water gets cold. We know what a good bubble bath does for us, but a bubble bath for our kids benefits us all. Kerri and Hsien-Hsien Lei at Play library details toys, and great ideas to do with children. They are just “Two mommies chatting about kids’ toys, games, books, and just fun stuff to do.” So check them out and see what you can find!

QA: Do Ionic Foot Baths Work?
Q: I know a lot of people that are trying the ionic foot baths for detoxing- but I don't see how they could possibly work for what they are claiming to do. But I am having a very hard time finding out anything about them since most people that tell you anything about them are selling them. I have been told that it will remove mercury - well if that's the case what are they doing with the water after the bath? they can't just dump it down the drain if it has mercury in it can they? A: I personally know some excellent clinicians who claim that their patients have received tremendous benefits from these types of treatments. I did try them in my clinic a few years ago, in fact even purchased a bit of equipment so we could easily do it, but I was not impressed with the results.Even if they did work please understand that they are part of a COMPREHENSIVE program to address the underlying cause. If your child has autism and mercury or vaccines are an issue it is imperative that great

      Baths
The ritual of taking a bath is centuries old. Bathing is not just wetting your body or applying lots of soap and foaming it to look like a snowman. It is an important activity to keep the body clean, healthy, fresh and relaxed. Soap, no matter which, would cause dryness ranging from mild to excessive scaling of the skin. Soaps are alkaline and cause undue moisture losses from the skin giving
