      Famous Martini's Bartending Ebook - Chapter 2
So, obviously you want to be a bartender, but do you know where? Do you have experience at all? The easiest and most effective way to getting what you want is by getting your foot in the door. Start out as a barback/cocktail waitress/server/hostess, etc. Start making it known to everyone – especially the management – how badly you want to be a bartender, how it has been your lifelong dream, etc. (But don't harass people to the point of annoyance, this will only get you avoided!) Most establishments will offer opportunities to their current staff before hiring someone new. In my background, a fresh person with no experience was much easier to train and deal with than an experienced bartender. The experienced ones wanted to debate every drink recipe and start every sentence of

Leon Bartending, A.K.A. “What Would Rick James Do?”
Last night, I kept my word and served as guest bartendar at The Common Share. The only problem was, my two days of training did not prepare me to deal with the amount of people who actually came to the bar that night. The place was packed! After about an hour of making drinks, I was starting to break a sweat. You hear me? Me! Leon! Mr. Cool Breeze himself! I worked up a few beads of sweat trying to make all those damned drinks! Chris, the bar’s owner, saw that I was not going to serve any faster than the rate that I was accustomed to, because sweating at my own event is not covered under the definition of cool. She let me off the hook and gave me an excuse to ask myself “What would Rick James do?” Since there were no couches around for me to stomp my muddy boots on, I figured “Rick James would probably make himself a drink, and then leave from behind the bar and party.” So as you see, I had no choice but to abandon serving, in order to party the way that R

You’re probably reading the headline and asking yourself “What the heck does this have to do with running?” “What does bartending have to do with being a good coach?” Well, I have news for you. Whether you are a Doctor, Starbucks Barrista, Bartender, Technology Consultant, Personal Trainer, or Coach, these are all careers in the service industry. Lets face it, you have to be good with people to excel in these careers. I reflected on my early years as a bartender, and came up with my top 25 list. Some may not apply to coaching: 1. smile & use eye contact 2. look people in the eye; greet them with their name 3. you will meet all walks of life 4. alcohol does strange things to people… CEO’s become regular people, and regular people act like CEOs 5. when your shift starts at 5pm, arrive at 5pm or earlier, not 5:01pm 6. no shoes, no shirt? easy, no service! 7. remember free samples in an ice-cream shop? Same goes for wine.

Me, being the positive person I am, I try to always find the benefits and lessons in everything, so this is, in my opinion,a list the best benefits of bartending. I personally, make more money than anyone else, including the other bartenders & managers. The Benefits:Freedom... Forget about working the 9 to 5. I have freedom to sleep in and get up whenever I want. My shifts are generally four to six hours MAX. So I make twice the cash in half the time of most people out there. Flexibility... I could get a full-time gig at a nightclub, casino, restaurant, bar, or sports venue. Or hire out my services part-time for weddings, yacht parties, banquets, etc. The ridiculous amount of flexibility in bartending gives me time to work on my internet business. I can arrange to have my shift covered anytime, there is always someone willing to make some extra cash. Connections...Celebrities, business owners, and movers & shakers! I
