Baptista to leave Arsenal
After an uneventful week at the Arsenal Football Club things have exploded into life with the news that the club will not be signing on-loan Brazilian forward Julio Baptista on a permanent deal. The chances of the club striking up a deal with Baptista were heavily reliant on whether Real Madrid decided to sign on-loan Arsenal winger Jose Antonio Reyes on a permanent deal. The intention was for Arsenal to sell Reyes to Madrid and gain the services of Baptista for next season at a heavily reduced price. But with Reyes looking more and more likely to join Atletico Madrid over the summer, the decision was made by Arsenal to send Baptista back to Spain rather than pay in excess of €20 million to sign him at the club.

FRANK McLINTOCK claims Arsene Wenger should send Julio Baptista packing.
Baptista arrived at Arsenal last summer with Jose Reyes going in the opposite direction to Real Madrid. But the Brazilian ace failed to make an impact during his season-long loan with the Gunners.
And McLintock believes Baptista does not deserve to be offered a permanent deal after scoring just 10 goals.
The Arsenal legend said: "Baptista was very disappointing. "He had a couple of marvellous games and looked as though he was the player we were missing.
"Once he had some confidence you thought he would go on from there — but he didn't.
"He got into lots of good positions but after scoring four against Liverpool and two against Tottenham he hardly found the net at all.
"I played at centre-back but I think I would have scored as many goals as he did. "It didn't happen for him at Real Madrid and it certainly didn't click for him at Arsenal.

Thank you for your responses regarding The Freddie Dilemma - it was interesting to see the responses. Now I move onto a couple of players who, it can be argued, have underachieved somewhat this season. Both have been playing up front and, although there have been a couple of highlights, the season hasn’t gone exactly to plan for either Baptista or Aliadiere.

The chances are you don’t. I think I was getting no more than ten readers a day. (According to Spurs supporters; not the fertility people – they were actually quite nice.)

The four goals scored at Anfield by Julio Baptista in Arsenal’s magnificent 6-3 victory over Liverpool on Tuesday, January 9th were the first "four" scored by an Arsenal player in the League Cup competition.
The last time an Arsenal player scored four in any match was, not surprisingly, Thierry henry on April 16, 2004 at Highbury when the Frenchman scored four of Arsenal’s five against Leeds United.
The last hat-trick scored by a Gunner, prior to Julio’s was also Thierry in Highbury’s final fixture, against Wigan Athletic on May 7, 2006 (won 4-2).
The last hat-trick in the League Cup competition was scored by Sylvain Wiltord on November 5, 2001 when the Gunner’s beat Manchester United 4-0 at Highbury.
