Salam and good morning Malaysia!
How are you today, Malaysia? Did anybody get blown to bits and pieces today? :-)
Alright fellow Malaysians, allow me to scare you a little bit this fine Thursday morning. What’s that? No, no… I’m not going to throw C4 explosives at you, nothing like that. I don’
Smaller US and European airlines are likely to go bankrupt in coming months if the oil price does not drop significantly below current levels of USD$130 a barrel.Faced with the unprecedentedly high cost of fuel, airlines will have to hedge against the oil price and cut unprofitable flights and routes to help them stay in the air.Pressure on airline profit margins will be exacerbated by a slowdown
I declared bankruptcy in a different proince in 1995; discharged in 1996. A mortgage broker I talked to who specializes in post-bankruptcy mortgages says that I don`t have to disclose my first bankruptcy since it was more than 10 years ago. Is that true

Damn them, they went bust as I was writing this.
Well fuel prices and an incredibly tight and competitive airline industry culled another victim today. The sad thing was that as of at least May 27th they were taking money from people and booking flights that are never going to fly.
I understand that the MAXJet planes [...]

According to recent U.S. government reports and senior U.S. counterterrorism officials, contesting al-Qaeda's message is no less important than capturing or killing the group's operatives. And as the administration prioritizes its agenda for the last eight months in office, recognizing the need for a refocused communication plan to highlight the bankruptcy of al-Qaeda's ideology is a critical -- albeit overdue -- part of a reengineered counterterrorism strategy. The State Department's 2007 Country...(read more)

What is the status of a debtor to a bankrupt?
Example: I have assets of over 300K and I loan a friend 100,000 dollars in 2006 after writing up a formal agreement assigning his house as collateral. He agrees to repay the loan over a 10 year period at 8% interest.

Delta and Northwest announced merger plans yesterday and last week Frontier Airlines files for bankruptcy protection. You can bet there will be more merger announcements to follow shortly following the Delta/Northwest deal. The media keeps reporting that fare increases will likely result. Fares need to increase, after every major carrier has stuck their hands into the pockets of their employees and with oil prices at a record high, how else are they going to stay in business? It is still cheaper to fly than it is to drive across country. Last I checked Ford or any other auto maker is not going to subsidize anyones trip, so why should the airlines? Frankly I am sick of the public expecting to fly roundtrip coast to coast for $200. Flights are full and no one is making a profit? WTF? I don'
A Maryland judge has ordered liens (a legal hold on property making it collateral against money owed to a person or entity) on the Westboro Baptist Church building and the Phelps-Chartered Law office. This is happening as a result of Westboro losing a lawsuit filed by Albert Snyder, the father of Marine Matthew A. Snyder whose funeral was picketed by the Westboro church members. A jury awarded Snyder compensatory damage of $2.9 million and punitive damage of $8 million. But the judge on Feb. 4 reduced the punitive damage to $2.1 million, for a total judgment of $5 million.Snyder's attorney claims this ruling will force the church into bankruptcy. We can only hope this verdict is not overturned and this church of vile hate is run into the ground.
Bankruptcy - A word that strikes shame, fear and disgust into many.

According to this story on Bloomberg, Bookseller Borders is in trouble and may be on its way to bankruptcy. If you hold a Borders gift card, you may want to redeem it now before you become a victim to what happened recently to gift card holders of The Sharper Image or Bombay Company after both declared bankruptcy and suspended redemption of all gift cards.

I was wondering if my wife goes bankrupt on her student loan, will that affect my credit history? meaning, if years after her bankruptcy,if i apply for a mortgage for instance, will they turn my application down due to my wife`s bankruptcy?

The stock market is in a tumult. Actually, it has been for about a year, ever since the subprime fiasco (anyone take a look at Moody’s performance over the past year?) Now that that particular issue has been beaten to death, other mortgage‑related issues are cropping up. Most of the stuff covered in the media is financial in nature, but some of those mortgage‑related issues do concern information security.
It’s no secret that there are plenty of companies in the US that discard sensitive documents by dumping them unceremoniously: leave it by the curb, drive it to a dumpster, heave it over the walls of abandoned property, and other assorted mind‑boggling insecure practices. In fact, MSNBC has an article on this issue, and names numerous bankrupt mort
Bankrupt lenders trash confidentiality
Think your personal information is safe? So did these people when they applied for a loan.
Another black eye for the mortgage industry
This is a prime example of the additional fallout from the subprime mortgage collaspe. Several lenders here in Las Vegas have gone belly up. By law, these companies are required to properly dispose of any private documents they had in their possession.
What you can do
There are several things you can do to protect your confidential information. Making sure that you shred any personal information at home before throwing it away is a must. You may also want to invest in a safety deposit box for your confidential documents. If you suspect that your information may have been lost or stolen, there are some things you shoul

Consumers holding gift cards issued by The Sharper Image were given a rude awakening when the company suspended the redemption of gift cards and certificates after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week. According to a story by the Consumerist blog, some gift card holders were having trouble redeeming their gift cards online and when they called customer service, they were informed of the suspension.

Celebrities are mostly rich people. Look at Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, Michael Jackson and Madonna. A little tv appearance, a little performance, a little dancing and singing and they earn thousands of US dollars. Even if I sing the whole day I won't even earn a fraction of what these celebrities are making. Easy Money befall on most celebrities in general. That's why it's hard to imagine that some celebrities can go bankrupt and file bankruptcy. I can't imagine Paris Hilton being named as a celebrity debtor or Michael Jackson for instance suffering financial fiasco. Some celebrities and famous personalities like Kim Basinger and MC Hammer as I read in some articles had been reported to have filed bankruptcy. I wonder what's the reason for this financial crisis- over spending perhaps! It
In one of the forums that I frequently trade discussion with, a question was raised by one member why a great (really great) segment of the Philippines is poor. Answers flooded but most of us ended up with a consensus that attitude (towards life, future, money, family, etc) is the main culprit caused even more by financial illiteracy. These are the people who have the one-day-millionaire attitude. Don’t worry about tomorrow, what is important is that we are full today. When these people have money, they buy signature clothes, different gadgets, the latest of mobile phones, appliances, go vacation, treat their friends, give money to their relatives, buy cars and so on and so forth, just so many for me to enumerate. This is not only the case with people who were born poor and die poor

Today, I learned that NBC Universal is canceling The 4400 and the Dead Zone( airing on the USA network). Wow! Both quality shows that could at least deserved one last season or mini-season to wrap things up for fans.
Of course, they will show us shows with lower quality because they cost less to produce. That I understand the business side but by canceling many shows(new or old), they risk losing the fans thus making less money by airing more crappy shows.
Here is what will happen if they continue this trend without regard to fans:
Look! Another new show on NBC Universal. Never mind, as soon I’m hooked, NBC Universal will cancel it. I won’t waist my time watching it that station anymore.
When scripted shows will become too rare on that network , where do you think viewers will go? They will go to HBO or Showtimes for real and intelligent shows for example.
Yes, NBC Universal is going bankrupt on 3 fronts: losing money, fans and quality content.
Is NBC Universal losing so m
For the 11th straight year, the federal government failed its financial audit, GAO announced Monday, in a widely anticipated finding that Comptroller General David Walker used to underscore the government's troubled fiscal health."If the federal government was a private corporation and the same report came out this morning, our stock would be dropping and there would be talk about whether the company's management and directors needed a major shake-up" Walker said this afternoon in a speech at the National Press Club.Just before his address, GAO issued a statement saying it could not express an opinion on the government's fiscal 2007 consolidated financial statements, mostly due to the Defense Department's financial management problems. In an announcement this morning, the agency also pointed to the government's failure to account for intergovernmental activity and balances between agencies and federal agencies' "ineffective process for preparing consolidated financial statements.
Yesterday a lot of the Personal Finance bloggers covered yesterday’s implosion of E-Trade’s share price and what it could mean.
Jonathan at My Money Blog discusses what SIPC Insurance means and how it can effect your brokerage account. If you have money at E-Trade don’t worry about them going bankrupt unless you have some commodity or futures contracts. Blueprint for Financial Prosperity’s Jim also shows you how to determine SIPC coverage for other brokerages.
The Personal Finance Weblog did what I think is a smart move and is sticking tight with E-Trade for now. When fear guides your decisions, it usually leads to bad decisions.
Personally, I think E*Trade is in a bit of a bind. They have been trying to compete with the big brokerage houses for the last several years in order to swipe traders and investors away. What they (E*Trade) didn’t realize is that the JP Morgan Chase and Citibanks and Morgan Stanley of the world have HUGE asset bases to come off of

Some have claimed Gordon Brown has been allowing speculation about the chances of an early election to continue in order to throw the Conservatives of course. If an early election seems a possibility, the Conservatives cannot wait for their policy reviews to come back before announcing a carefully planned manifesto. They are being forced into hurried policy announcements and into playing their hand too early, making for bad policies and electoral irrelevance. Peter Riddell, writing in The Times, suggests this strategy may be working:The Conservatives will only have a fighting chance if they can offer a coherent picture of what a David Cameron government would be like. The absence of such clarity has held the Tories back. So their main aim in Blackpool this week is to fill in the blanks: to back up Mr Cameron’s nebulous social responsibility message with more specific, and understandable, pledges. Or, as George Osborne put it, the question people are asking of the Tories: “Are we re

Tuesday, December 4All at once, banks are calling! (Actually, they’ve been calling for months, without me knowing it. Or, more properly, without me knowing beyond doubt.) But now—no percentage in Carlos hiding it anymore, no point in me pretending imperturbable faith—they’re claiming ownership! “It’s not as bad as it sounds,” Carlos tries to explain. “I was going to lay out the sequence for you in a few days, when, believe me, the terms will be much improved. In fact, with any luck, they could turn out for the best.” His jasmine-scented hand presses my shoulder. What a shame I even had
Sarkozy last week unveiled plans to overhaul pensions for some public employees and to streamline the civil service, the boldest moves yet in his reform agenda since taking office four months ago. Some 22,900 public servants who are retiring this year will not be replaced while the state is planning to sell off 600 million euros worth of real estate to generate revenue. Opposition Socialists say the nation's finances suffered a haemorrhage after parliament voted through a package of tax cuts promised by Sarkozy during his election campaign that are estimated to cost between 9 and 15 billion euros a year.
$8,993,695,814,457.91 or almost nine trillion us dollars. This is the current debt that our government is liable for. That’s more than the national debt of Japan, Germany and Italy combined. And even though Bush’s administration recently announced that 2007 deficit has dropped $90 billion below the reported in 2006, we’re still up to our ears.
Why is the government sinking in debt? Why is there a deficit? The federal budget deficit is the yearly amount by which spending exceeds revenue. So, they dropped the deficit. Great accomplishment! But in the real world reducing the deficit only means that less is added to the current national debt. Until deficit exists, this thirteen-digit number will continue going up. In the beginning of 2004, it was just above the 7 trillion mark. By November of 2005, this sum was way above 8 trillion. With the an estimated population of the United States already above 300,000,000 souls, each citizen’s share of this debt averages to a
I have been getting a lot of directs to the site with questions input into Google. I thought I would make some comments on the two most common.First, a common question is "What if my mortgage company goes bankrupt?" - some people, from their searches, seem to think that their mortgage might be forgiven! Actually, it will just be sold to some other bank. Your lender in bankruptcy should send you a letter notifying you of the transfer. In any case, it is up to you to continue making payments to the right place. So if you see your mortgage company about to fold, call them up. If you send the check to the old bank after your mortgage transfers, it won't be applied to your mortgage. The bank might even cash it, leaving you scrambling for 2 payments in a single month while waiting for a refund (because as we all know, once a company gets your money they will drag their feet giving it back). Maybe they are legally required to pass on the check, who knows. If you assume they'd send on the ch
Now that SunRocket has claimed for bankruptcy. You start to see a tone of offers for SunRocket customers. Which makes sense since 200k customers lost there VoIP service overnight! Which meant they could have prepaid $199 and only got like a month of service out of it. So now VoIP customers are scrambling to get there phone line back on. Some will remember Vonage but the ones that do there research will realize that Vonage VoIP service has also had some issues with its stock. So who do you turn too? Well do your research and really compare offers for sunrocket customers. You’ll find that some may just be too good to be true. One Sunrocket Special Promotion that I liked, is from a service provider that’s not really a landline VoIP solution. But something that compliments your current cell phone or VoIP provider to help reduce your call and let you call while you on the go.
Over at the Catoosa County News, homeschooler Jeannie Babb Taylor has a bone to pick with the "exit strategy" put forth by some Southern Baptists. It is actually an interesting article, with a few characterizations of conservative Christians which I personally would contest. I'm not "running from evolution, homosexuality or even drugs," but she provides enough quotes for her stance that she does not appear to be working solely from stereotypes. This, however, I found quite interesting, since it so closely adheres to my personal beliefs about the Church in America today:If the souls of children were number one on the Baptist agenda, the churches would be focused on adding more educational options, not sabotaging the options we have now. Just imagine if church activists took the millions spent opposing abortion, homosexuality and public school, and simply funneled it into free Christian schools. Imagine if any child who wanted a Christian education could walk into the church and —
Founded in 2003 for $10 million Feedburner the king of RSS Feeds is in the closing stages of being sold to Google for approximately $100 million. In fours years $90 million gain now that is making money online! I wonder if Google plans to replace or update Feedburner ads with something new, like gAdFeeds. Gadget Model Ronaldo Wants His Money From Bankrupt BenQ MobileReal Madrid soccer star Ronaldo was doing some gadget modeling for BenQ Mobile who sponsored the Real Madrid team. Apparently he did not get paid yet and BenQ mobile is bankrupt.
Real Madrid has still to play with BenQ Mobile shirts until July. BenQ Mobile owes about 1.2 billon Euros (~$1.6 billon) to about 4,000 entities (mostly former employees). Ronaldo is one of creditors. His lawyer hopes to get 20% of the money owed from Ronaldo’s mobile phone endorsement contract.
I think, Ronaldo will survive without the BenQ mobile money, others are not so lucky. The pressure on BenQ mounts that they will have to cover for the losses of their mobile unit.

Last night I dreamt of my father. I’ve written about him before and basically the story goes like this: Deadbeat Dad hides from girl and her mother to avoid paying child support for 18 years.
I didn’t meet him until I was 7 years old, and my childhood memories are all good ones. He took me to Centre Island and the CN Tower on the weekends that he actually showed up to get me. Believe me, I sat on the front porch many-a-Saturday mornings only to be in tears by after-lunch and consoled by my angry mother. He bought me my first computer, a Vic 20, and my first radio that played cassette tapes. His face was like Santa’s: jolly, trusting, and round. I loved my Dad dearly, but something nagged at me through out my life. He wasn’t consistent in anything: visits, jobs, affection, moods. Nothing.
At 20, while living out in Vancouver, him and I tried to develop a more mature, adult child and father relationship. The truth is, I had very little respect for a man w

On the heels of Mike Malloy’s firing at Air America Radio, ThinkProgress.org is reporting that AAR will be filing for bankruptcy on Friday, September, 15th.
Air America could remain on the air under the deal, but significant personnel changes are already in the works. Sources say five Air America employees were laid off yesterday and were told there would be no severance without capital infusion or bankruptcy. Also, Air America has ended its relationship with host Jerry Springer. Source:ThinkProgress.org
Could this mean a new restructuring at AAR? Perhaps, new and better leadership that is probably more focused and committed to the growing Progressive movement in America.
