I am writing to enquire whether you have any vacancies on your strategic board for someone of my talents. I realise that it is a little unorthodox to apply ‘on spec’ for such a high-ranking position within your organisation, but I believe I have the necessary skills to further increase the profits and assets of Big Bank Plc. In this letter I will attempt to demonstrate my knowledge of the challenges and opportunities in our marketplace.1) Who are our customers?I understand that our most lucrative customers are those with the least awareness of financial matters; indeed, the less numerate they are, the better. Rather like the dear old PM, in fact.If they don’t know the difference between APR and AER, if they fail to read the small print in their credit contracts - not that it matters,
When I was reading some books for my trip to Cancun I came across the following story. I had read it previously and it has been around for many years but I like it so I decided to share it for those of you who haven’t read it yet.

Police in Brazil have arrested a Credit Suisse private banker in connection with a money laundering and tax evasion probe involving the Swiss bank, according to various press reports.
Christian Peter Weiss was arrested in Rio de Janeiro for allegedly operating an illegal money transfer scheme. The Swiss banker will be charged with money laundering, tax evasion, fraudulent banking and operating without a banking license, among other things, according to a statement released by the federal prosecutor’s office in Brazil.
A number of other Credit Suisse employees and former employees have also been arrested in connection with the case, said a Reuters report.
The arrest is part of a probe by the Brazilian authorities called “Operation Switzerland” and
As an entry-level investment banker, you will be somewhat constrained in your attempts to find a marriage partner. With about 5 hours of free time per week, your options are limited to a) office romance or b) importing a husband/wife. Neither is great, but b) is probably better from a career perspective.
The tour led roughly 20 participants to 13 homes in communities throughout the region, including Ross, Coraopolis, Robinson, Mount Lebanon, Penn Hills, Verona and Pittsburgh's West End. Ben Hess, a Coldwell agent who specializes in selling foreclosed properties for lender Fannie Mae, said about 60 percent of the people on the bus tour were investors looking to rent or flip property. The remaining participants planned to occupy the homes themselves, he said. "We have been just swamped with inquiries" from lenders interested in selling their foreclosed homes, Hess said. This week has been particularly busy, Hess said, because Allegheny County held its monthly sheriff's sale on April 7.

Over recent weeks the words ‘credit crunch’ have been all over the financial headlines, and the effects of the turmoil that has hit the financial markets have been reflected in a number of ways, affecting both financial institutions and consumers.
The credit crunch was sparked as a result of the housing slump, rising interest rates, and [...]
CHICAGO – Tucked surreptitiously at the way-way-way-off-Loop location of the Prop Thtr – Chicago’s oldest-surviving non-equity theater in the area – the signature that is “Ceres” is its high-octane energy. The cast act in harmony much in the same way as the “X-Men” character Juggernaut: once their momentum is synthesized, it can’t be stopped.
The theme is carried consistently from the instant “Ceres” lights up all the way through its curtain call. All throughout the middle, The Factory Theater troupe allows theatergoers to feel like privileged voyeurs in the lions’ den of high-volatility investment brokers who crook all their rules, loyalties and ethics in order to make the coveted sale.

21 Feb 2008 - Here is an interesting forum thread from Wall Street Oasis on whether a banker should marry another banker. It contains some really interesting perspectives and is worth a read through.
All the senior bankers do their planning for the next week on Friday at 4 PM. Suddenly, they'll remember those Monday/Tuesday meetings they had planned the whole week but somehow forgot to tell you about. And the pitch or board presentation on Tuesday that they also conveniently forgot to tell you about.

So what if the Kruelbergs and Blunderstones of this world are finding it hard to get the kind of cash from their investment banks that they did just a few months ago. It’s an investment banker’s duty to try and then to try harder. Prepare pitches, present profiles, think in the box, out of the box, around the box – whatever it takes to get that damn tombstone. It has to be said, however, that

25 Year Old Beauty Seeks Rich Banker 05/10/2007 following exchange took place on Craigslist - don’t misss investment banker's response 'What am I doing wrong?’ Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy. I’m not from . I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all.Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board ? Any wives ? Could you send me some tips ? I dated a business man who made an average of around 200 - 250K. But that’s where I seem to hit a roadblock. $250,000 won’t get me to Central Park West. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker, and lives in Tribeca. She’s not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right ? How do I get to her
When the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded in 2006, some one would have surely asked what has the awardees - Mumhammad Yunus & Grameen Bank , done for World Peace. But Nobel Peace Prize committee rightly reasoned out that this Banker to the Poor has showed that alleviating poverty creates a world without conflicts - the real Peace. He showed to the world that MicroFinance or just giving access of credit to the poor could do a lot of wonders in reducing poverty. I never tried to understand "Micro finance" then because Finance was and still is out of my boundaries:). But when my intelligent peers at IIM Indore would throw questions about micro finance to all the finance company executives who visited the campus, i thought it as a business enterprise rather a social enterprise. But "Social Entrepreneurship" course, i am taking in Northeastern University not only changed my views but also made me to appreciate the efforts of this Nobel Peace Prize Winner. He has now entered the elite li

So, the jury is out. You’ve been running around the bank, asking everyone where they thought you would be in ten years’ time. After all, investment bankers are the some of the 9self proclaimed) best brains around - the best and brightest – the

But hey, as with all rules, there are even finer ways of twisting
It looks like Tyra has banked herself a banker.
The model-turned-TV-host certainly doesn't need a man for his money - but it doesn't hurt.
We hear Banks is friendly with John Utendahl of Wall Street's Utendahl Capital Partners. Because when you're a handsome, 6-foot-3 investment banker, why wouldn't you be dating a supermodel?
We hear the relationship is part of the reason "The Tyra Banks Show" has announced plans to move from Los Angeles to New York City.
Reps for Banks and the banker did not return calls yesterday.

HOUSE OF GLITZ: ALRIGHT NOT, BAD,, NOT BAD!!!
Commercial real estate, private money loans also know as hard money and or bridge loans are becoming more prevalent as borrowers enjoy less red tape, quicker closings and more “common sense” underwriting than conventional financing provides.
Typically though, borrowers still relay on this type of financing as an option when conventional sources are not available.
The increased speed and flexible underwriting comes at a steep price with interest only rates often in the teens, 3- 6 points being the norm and loan terms being relatively short at 12 – 36 months.
Why would owners pay such high fees/rates? In short, because it makes sense for them based on their current situation. Below are examples of transactions where it made sense for our borrowers or go the hard money route.

With the increasing prices due to inflation, sometimes, it is not a good idea anymore to put your money in the bank and let it earn the small interests that are often offered by financial institutions. You can actually keep your own money and invest it in worth while projects that will earn more interests.
But, there are people who just can not keep their money no matter how much they want to.

Blackfriars bridge is stop number 5 on the walki-talki.com tour of London. In 1982, it was the site of a ghastly death. This week, five men accused of the murder were cleared of the crime in Rome. The court found insufficient evidence to convict the accused. Surprisingly, the first inquest in the UK concluded that Mr. Roberto Calvi, a troubled Banker living in Canada, had decided to commit suicide by hanging himself from Blackfriars Bridge one early morning.
Well, whatever the truth may be, as you wander about Blackfriars Bridge, feel free to wonder whether this was a suicide or a murder. Or whether the Mafia is reality or entirely the figment of the active imagination of people like Mario Puzzo and Francis Ford Copola.

I recently came across this story on The Anthropik Network, and I think it succinctly illustrates some of the most fundamental distinctions between a hunter-gatherer lifestyle and the cultural "work ethic" that pervades the modern global society. An American investment banker was at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellow fin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them. The Mexican replied, "only a little while."The American then asked why didn't he stay out longer and catch more fish? The Mexican said he had enough to support his family's immediate needs. The American then asked, "but what do you do with the rest of your time?"The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take siestas with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine, and play guitar wi

Walking into a bank for a business loan without any documentation is the quickest way to get turned down for a loan. And it is not surprising that a high percentage of potential business loan wannabes simply are unprepared to deal with what the bank needs to see when you apply.
When you visit your banker, he or she will need to have documentation for the specific dollar figure you are requesting a loan for, as well as a very detailed report of exactly what you are doing with the money, and why you feel that amount is neccessary.
Your banker will also ask for a projection of when you feel you can realistically pay back the loan, how often you will make payments, and how much you plan to pay on a monthly basis.
You will also need to offer financial history for your company (balance sheets, profit and loss statements) for at least the previous three years, if it is an established company. If this is a start-up business, you will need to have a concise and detailed business pl
