Its been a while since I featured something funky from the West/Left and I apologize for that, but don’t trip my Cali, and my regionally undiscriminating hip-hop heads. We will soon be featuring a weekly West Coast fix for your enjoyment. ‘We Still Party’ is originally off of Mr. DJ Q, U, I, K w/ [...]
With most of the prevalence in Hip-Hop steered away from the west coast, the brother and I are determined, better yet indentured to bring you real West/Left Coast Swagger. This song right here is an unmitigated, undeniable West Coast Banger. “What U See Is What U Get” was that song that made a brutha want hop out the house, pull the khakis down to the circumference your ass, snatch the crotch at the knee, scowl a mean mug, and limp through life. I was in friggin’ high school when this dropped, back on July 6, 1998 and it still bangs. Wondering who produced this heater? It was Jesse West, you know the same guy that was taught by the all powerful Afrika Bambaataa, and recorded Biggie Smalls first demo.
Hard to imagine that Xzibit was a respectable MC at one point right? But back in 1995-96 when he was rolling hard with the Likwit Crew (Tha Alkaholiks and King T). Dude spit real lyrical and had crazy underground hype. Then he went mainstream gangsta and got the co-sign from Dr
I heard about the Hidden Detour Party about two days before the event and I had absolutely no idea what to expect except that there would be lots of dancing. And I guess that's all we really needed to know! Boost Mobile & Fader put on 2 parties at these hidden locations in LA and the only way to go was to rsvp/text to get a text back of the address on the days of, raver status true. We went Friday night for the Ed Banger crew. Quick History: Pedro Winter a.k.a. Busy P runs Ed Banger Recs since '02, it was part of Headbanger Entertainment. Most of the acts are French electro/house DJs and Artists including heavyweights DaftPunk! Friday night was one of the best DJ live sets we have ever heard/seen/experienced. Some of the DJs included Kavinsky, So-Me, Justice, Mehdi and of course Busy P. We danced to mixes, remixes, mashups done way proper on the 1s and 2s of Feist, Beastie, some old school, lots of dance and house beats. You could definitely feel the anticipat
That DJ Quik feature in the recent free edition of Fader Magazine (download it right here) has had a brotha diggin’ in the crates for some of Mr. DJ Q-U-I-K with no C style’s timeless joints, and look what I discovered (In the Christoper Columbus sense). ‘The P—- medley’ is as vulgar, as profane and as misogynistic as it gets but still, a brotha can’t help but nod his head and chime along, especially to Snoop’s verse. This song represents the epitome of the West Coast dynasty that has since toppled. Though its evident the BET buyout was a major contributing factor to the West’s demise, New York has since managed to bounce back, but what the hell is Cali doing?
As a regular of NerdwithSwag.com and noticing the content and music I post on a regular, you may not have be able to infer which region that I reside, unless you knew me personally. I hail from Cali, the left side, the west side. But as authenticity is a major premise I stress on
Tron + Dope Hip-Hop = pure bliss, it seriously doesn’t get any iller then that. I sincerely believe this brotha is going to be the next great one, among the ranks of Big, Pac, Nas. etc. And I’m im not just quotin’ Just Blaze’s accolades from “Act 1. Eternal Sunshine” either, hes unlike anything you’ve ever heard before, and I thought I’ve heard it all. ‘Hard to get’ is a random track the brotha dropped on his Youtube a few months ago to appease his fans, everyone who knows about this cat is one it seems, and is feening for more of his work, me included. Check this banger out after the break. (more…)

This joint ‘Forth & Back’ has been stuck in my mind all day, this beat is just too ill, and even though J Dilla’s recent work with his experimenting and what not was still dope, none of his new stuff can compare to his late-ninties sound. So what y’all know about that “Fan-Tas-Tic, Vol. 1“? Many don’t, Vol 1. is Slum’s obvious predecessor to their main stream debut album Fantastic, Vol 2. but never got pushed due to bad pub, but is just as classic. Vol 1. was also recently remastered and released last year so you can cop it if interested, you definitely won’t regret it.

Its was just random luck browsing the internets when I strolled upon this here video. I’ve never heard of this brotha Jahi (or any of his music) before, but this track alone has me sold me on him. His style quite simply put, “What if slum village had a fourth member?” I could definitely picture this brotha in the group, and this track is definitely relevant, I’m sure all y’all can align it to a few of your past experiences. ‘On my own’ is the single to his album “Soul Hop, the Breakthru” released in Denmark in 2006 and is available on itunes right now if you want to check more of it out, the video is after the break. I think it's time I got something off my chest- and it's horrible. I feel like this blog is an outlet for me to really come clean about what, until recently, I thought to be a major personality flaw of mine.
I love to have angry sex.
Seriously, I need to be absolutely repulsed by a woman in order to enjoy shagging her. I need a chick to be lying, repugnant filth, like the kind that contributes to this website, to even get slightly chubbed up in the 'nether regions.'
Now I'm not into being smacked around or anything- don’t take me from some leather-bound 'Machine' look-alike, but it is an unequivocal truth that I can't sleep with a chick unless she is being rude, insensitive, and bull headed.
Angry sex is better than any kind of lovey-dovey ultra mushy act of affection that has ever been attempted. Cuddling and caressing are replaced with spitting swearing, and maneuvering that more closely resembles an Islander-Ranger game than a cozy satin sheets love fest.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of listening to any of my dude Dwele’s music I’m said to say folks, but your deprived, and definitely don’t know what your missing. Dwele’s status in the game has been somewhat uncanny, hes known, but not. Dwele lingers in the purgatory between mainstream and underground, although he does have a very loyal fan base (me included) which is a blatant indicator of his talent, and the quality he puts forth. Hes worked with everyone from Styles P to Slum Villa and I hope one day he’ll acquire that platinum plaque he deserves.
‘Lay it down’ is my favorite joint off his album “Some Kinda…” and its rated GTGTD… I’ll elaborate on that a bit later, but if your intelligent you’ll figure out that acronym… Enjoy the music…

This stray track is an orphan to an unfortunately shelved project that couldn’t of been anything but classic. “Pharrell + Timbaland + Magoo”, how ill would of that been? Anyways the track leaked to the internet about a year ago and its all we have to imagine of the potential masterpiece that never made it…

Exclusive AudioYo, we're worldwide with the mothership my sihi's. This selection is dedicated to a great, underground DJ/producer named L-Precise. He just dropped an excellent remix of R-Kelly's smash hit single called "I'm A Flirt". Oh, by the way, L's is a producer/DJ hailing from Vancouver, BC and is a member of the renowned BumSquad DJ's. The "Just-Blaze" of Canada, he incorporates various styles into his production, from street heat to club bangers. “Beats so ill, I can’t even rap on em…”
This instrumental is 10 years old, and it still bangs…
Whens the last time you heard this? ‘Beep Beep’ would be the intro to Timbaland & Magoo’s classic debut album “Welcome to our world” which dropped in 97′. Yea, these youngstas don’t know about Timb in his heyday… He has since dumbed himself down to cater to this new and somewhat simple minded demographic, who can’t appreciate complexities in their music, na’ mean? They would rather just lean with it and snap with it… Bunch a’ idiots.

One of my favorite tracks from Tash, who is without a doubt the most slept on Left Coast artist… Which is a shame too for the brotha could spit harder then most of y’all favorite rappers…
There was some speculation behind the production of this track, it sounds a little familiar right? Yea, from Dr. Dre’s - ‘Next Episode‘ as well but it has a different flavor to it. I’m still curious to this day about its true origins, Tash’s album says its prodcued by Rockwilder, but on the Chronic 2001 it says Dre… Someone is fabricatin’.

The entire Slum Village album - “Fantastic volume #2” is worthy of Random Bangerness (Yea, its made up…), so thats what i’ll do, one song at a time. I wouldn’t want to overwhelm those who haven’t heard it before.
‘Get this money’ is my official soundtrack for money motivation, you can’t not want to hustle after hearing this track…
There is too much heat on this album, I’ll have em’ all up though, soon enough…

Yea I’ve been a bit biased in my random bangers (regionally that is), but I’m ending all that. Look out for some heavy hittin’ west coast joints very soon…
‘So many ways’, is off of the classic album “Rhythm-al-ism” which dropped in 98′ and is Quik’s best album in my opinion, never a dull moment on that joint…
“Don’t take it as a diss, this is just to let you know that I love ya” Na brotha, thats a diss…
This is the last great slum song, Dilla blessed Elzhi and T3 and came back with this joint which is the last track on “Detroit Deli” released in 04′.
Its a shame how El put Baatin on blast, but apparently they got past their differences as Tin is rumored to rejoin Slum Village. It’d be a shame if Dilla’s death is the reason for them to possibly reconvene…

‘A Tribe called quest - Find a Way’
This song is another that would be in my top five favorites, another track with that rare attribute most music lacks today, timelessness. ‘Find a way’ is off of “The Love Movement” by ATCQ, a classic album that you could never go wrong with…
“Man… Hold up, I got too much beat in my truck…”
FaceMob, the true king of the south (grown folks already know), the track is off of “Last of a dying breed” that dropped in 2000, a solid album no doubt, but it ain’t up there with “The Fix” which is the undisputed best rap album of 02′.
“I thought you knew Baatin was polygamous? Which one of you queens is tryna’ get with this? I already got one holdin’ my arm and this, but I need a couple to add to my list..”
Slum Village - ‘Climax’ from the “Fantastic, V.2. This is that song I think of when I hear the hypothetical senario… You know, “If you where stuck on a island and could only listen to one song?” This just might be it, but if not its definitely in the running. I’ve heard it a thousand times I’m sure, and it never gets old…
“Keep 3 shooters like the Mavericks, short to the point like Nash is…”
B. Sig - ‘Don’t Stop’ from the “The B.Coming” album
I dont know what happened to the promotion for Beans on this Album, it should of went triple, look out for the “Solution” coming out this June…

Yea, I’m bringing it back to 98′ with this joint, whens the last time you heard this?
As soon as I posted the YouTube clip (see below) of banger racing at Crewe I received a few emails, comments and even a text from a friend. It's obviously sadly missed by many people. To answer a few questions, the speedway scene (the Crewe Kings) ran, I believe, from 1969-1975. Only a short spell, but records were set. Apparently, the Crewe "oval" was at one point the largest track in the UK, weighing in at a whopping 470-yard banked oval. With such room to manoeuvre, Crewe rider Barry Meeks clocked nearly 55mph - then a British track record. The Crewe Kings went on to scoop the 1972 Division Two title and also the knockout trophy. A few years back (in 2001) they were added to the Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council Sporting Roll of Honour. I was only a kid back then and don't recall being taken to see the bikes in action. However, a few years on, as a teenager, I do remember going to watch the bangers (or stock cars) crashing around the track. It was noisy, dirty, often cold... but
