Top 10 Bands of The 90’s
When one reads or watches a “traditional” best bands of all time list, the assumptions get unquestioned. What happens is that people who profess to be “music listeners” accept these lists without ever asking themselves “Why the fuck should I listen to anything VH1 says”. When one list “argues” for its content, others [...]

      Crewe Live 08 bands
Tick, tock... only a few weeks until the town's first proper music festival in years. If you've followed the blog or local papers recently you'll know that the Crewe Live 08 event kicks off over the weekend of 23 May to 26 May. There are loads of bands now scheduled to play the pubs and clubs that we haven't managed to get down the right-hand column of the blog, so here's a selection with links to their MySpace pages if you have appropriate access....The 100 Club hail from Manchester and will be in town on 13 May as well as the Live 08 weekend. I always love the way bands bill themselves, so here's their blurb: The 100 Club play a brand of alternative rock that features pounding drums and heavy bass with soaring melodies over the top. Smart guitar lines and assured vocals mark them out as

To Match or Not to Match that is Our QuestionWhen many couples make the step to get married, they want to be of one heart, one mind, and one soul. Somewhere along the line many couples have taken the notion that this includes even the eternal signs and symbols of their undying love. Many couples wanting to hold to tradition ask, “are wedding bands supposed to match?” This can seem a daunting question for some couples. But maybe you are two very unique individuals with different tastes in the type of metal you want your band to be constructed from. There are no social or religious traditions that hold a bride and groom to have to buy matching wedding bands. Maybe the groom to be is fond of all platinum jewelry, and wears it on a daily basis. This Friday night I am going to see one of my favorite bands of all time, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. I haven't been able to see them the last two times they came to town because I had weddings to film. They aren't a huge national act so their tours get booked only a few months in advanced, while my wedding videos can sometimes get booked up to two years in advance.you may not know this band by this name but most people recognize them by their former name, The Refreshments. They had a big hit back in 1995 with a song called Banditos, and are well know for recording the theme some to the King of the Hill TV show. Since their major label dropped them after their second Cd didn't sell very well (mainly because it wasn't promoted very well), they have gone on to become one of the most pop

Some of the messages will sound like this, "Hey, I've just uploaded a new tracks, please check out our page and listen to it." Wah, who do you think you are? Avril Lavigne? Michael Jackson? Linkin Park?I'm not saying you can't do like that but most of the time, people will simply ignore your message and will mark it as spam! What you have to do is, give them a space. Bands Around Boston: Chuck Ragan // The Middle East Downstairs
Last night, Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music) brought his grizzly-voiced brand of acoustic songcraft to the Middle East and I for one was pleased. Last year, Ragan released Feast or Famine on Side One Dummy, proving to all his HWM fans that gruff punk rock guys can still bring the rock and sing passionate songs while adding a more folk-related element. Each song on the album illustrates Ragan's ability to change musically while keeping a lyrical focus on the things most important to him: Friends and Family. Even in his live performance, he shows the importance of these two when he invites on stage touring buddies Ben Nichols (of Lucero) and Josh English (of Six Going on Seven) to join him in the fun. The lighting was dark so my pictures sucked, but as you can see from above, not only di

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008: Företagsrock - Corporate Battle of The Bands in Helsingborg
What I think:Every year, The Tivoli, Helsingborg's main music venue, hosts a Battle of The Bands competition, in which employees from different companies compete. It's called Företagsrock (or "Company Rock").Last year, I had joined a band with some IKEA people, and we decided to enter this year's contest. Because two of the other guys work in a building called Sockerbruket (or "The Sugar Refinery", as it used to be), I half-jokingly suggested that we call ourselves "Suckerbucket".And so it came to pass that Suckerbucket was created, an application was made to enter the competition, and there was much rejoicing (and some rehearsing). We were to play in the very first contest of the first round, against two other bands, on January 17th, 2008. Here's the poster: I would have preferred some ki

Secret Revealed: Why The Rolling Stones, The Eagles And Other Bands Are Back!
Older bands and older singers are more popular than the current ones. Why? I know why - recording artist like The Rolling Stones, The Police, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles have something our current entertainers don’t: musical talent. With the music industry's current ‘bring’m in, throw’m out’ mentality, what more could you expect? What the present music scene needs it exactly what these individuals provide: real good music. They give you creativity, musical ability, along with excitement - the very things the music industry is missing today. Trying to find decent music on the radio today can be a challenge, it can really bring a music-lover(like myself) to anger - good music is just simply hard to find on many a radio station. One has to go to the oldies or 70s, 80s radio stations.

Five Bands I would Like to Invite to My Christmas Party
Christmas is soon here and so is the party. I mean so called “pre-Christmas” party. We have already had that party at my work but some companies are going to have it on this week. There is always some live music in our parties. Usually there are some deadly boring old fags playing 70’s pop and rock covers. I have never seen a metal band in any parties organized by my employers. If I was in charge I would organize a bit different Christmas party.. Who would you like to see live in your party? I am into metal music, so I created a list of five bands I would like to invite to my party. After their gigs the bands would naturally join the audience and spend time with us. Which bands I would invite? Read below. Band number 5: Mokoma Mokoma is a band I would definitely invite to my party. They know how to entertain audience and how to play some trash metal. I would love to sit down with Mokoma’s singer Marko Annala and share a discussion. He is a clever guy and would

Two Most Important German Heavy Metal Bands - Part I: Helloween
There are few great German heavy metal bands, but two of them I rank as the most important of all time. They are Gamma Ray and Helloween, both founded by Kai Hansen, the legendary German vocalist-guitarist. In this two articles series I present those two bands and tell some latest news from the bands. Let us start with Helloween. If you have never heard of Helloween, you must have been living under a rock. Helloween is a German power metal band, founded in Hamburg in 1982. The band was founded by guitarist-vocalist Kai Hansen, and the band released their very first album, the legendary Helloween in 1985. The album was a great success, and later on same year Helloween released their second album, Walls of Jericho. On those days Hansen found out that he has troubles playing guitar and singing at the same time and therefore he quit singing. Helloween discovered their new singer, Michael Kiske with whom they recorded the very famous Keeper of the Seven Keys, Part 1 album. That album, as w

Great American Metal Bands - Machine Head
Yesterday I mentioned that Machine Head will play on Friday here in Helsinki together with Arch Enemy, Dragonforce and Trivium. For those who do not know, Machine Head is a heavy metal band formed in 1992 in Oklahoma, California. The band was founded by Robb Flynn who plays guitar in the band. They soon got lots of attention and the band toured with Napalm Death in 1994. Their video “Davidian” was banned in United States but they received a lot of attention in Europe and they toured with Slayer and Biohazard. Machine Head played in Dynamo festival in front of 130 000 people. Later on the band has played together with a number of big bands, such as Lamb of God, Trivium, Megadeth and Heaven and Hell. Machine Head has released six albums, namely - Burn My Eyes - The More Things Change… - The Burning Red - Supercharger - Hellalive - Through the Ashes of Empires - The Blackening Machine Head is an awesome band. Note to bands: Play good shows!
All of the GOOD bands I have seen in this area DO NOT consider themselves "Rockstars"and have 5 good shows to 1 bad one. Those that do will have 1 good show and 5 mediocre ones but say they were all GREAT! Just an observation. At first glance, I made the assumption that the writer was basing this observation on the Pareto principle. Could this be the case? If so, this could be more than "just" an observation by our writer. But, the problem is that just because it fits 80% or so of the cases of one band (in this example, "a GOOD band"), it would also need to be understood that only 20% of the resources are used in the case of the GOOD band. So, what is the writer saying?"80% of all the GOOD bands play 20% of the GOOD shows""80% of ROCKSTARS are in 20% of the bands"Neither, I guess. I apologize for making that assumption before thinking it through. So, thinking it through. Consider the case of two bands; one good and one bad. There are a total of twelve shows played. According to our writer

Great Heavy Metal Bands of All Time - Accept
Somewhere in the middle of the 80’s, I got a C-cassette from my brother. Together with Iron Maiden cassettes, it was one of my very first metal music cassettes. It was Balls to the Walls from Accept. It was so damn good. I was fascinated. I listened to it every single day, several hours a day. Soon after that I received another Accept casette from my brother. This time it was Metal Heart. This album became as my first milestone in metal music. Since that day I have been a headbanger and I have enjoyed every moment. Man, I love my brother because of those two Accept C-cassettes! What an intro.. funny, right? Heavy metal band Accept was one of my first contacts to metal music and it really was something awesome back in those days. Their powerful and masculine guitars combined with Udo Dirkschneider’s screaming voice were something different. Ok, there was also Judas Priest, but it was not similar to Accept, which was a bit slower and more traditional heavy metal with strong r

Right now (Friday night) HELLsinki is rainy, dark and cold city, but on summer time it is very live, warm and nice city with lots of happenings, such as Tuska open-air metal festival. A Video Of Hair Metal Bands
As I lived my youth in the 80’s, I have been privilidged to see the rise and fall of hair metal bands. Do you remember bands like Motley Crew, Poison, Kiss, Hanoi Rocks, LA Guns, Slaughter, New York Dolls, Van Halen and Cinderella? I won’t even mention Bon Jovi, it sucks too much.. Looking back nowadays all that seems so funny, especially the clothing and hairstyles. Especially the hairstyle of Poison, it was really awesome. Man, Poison is the reason for our planets’ ozone holes because of their chemicals. Recently I came across with this video in Youtube and I wanted to share it with you. This video brings me back to 80’s. Although it is funny, I am glad that melodic death metal is here right now. I got enough hair metal in the 80’s and now the time is for something harder.

Recycled Condoms As Hair Bands? Sick.
I am all for recycling but this is just sick. Used condoms are being recycled into hair bands in southern China, threatening to spread sexually-transmittable diseases they were originally meant to prevent, state media reported Tuesday. “These cheap and colourful rubber bands and hair ties sell well … threatening the health of local people,” it said. Despite being recycled, the hair bands could still contain bacteria and viruses, it said.”People could be infected with AIDS, (genital) warts or other diseases if they hold the rubber bands or strings in their mouths while waving their hair into plaits or buns,” the paper quoted a local dermatologist who gave only his surname, Dong, as saying. A bag of ten of the recycled bands sells for just 25 fen (three cents), much cheaper than others on the market, accounting for their popularity, the paper said. Men's White Gold Wedding Bands
White metals such as silver and palladium mixed with gold produces an alloy known as white gold. As with gold, white gold can be found in any carat measurement up to 21 carats. Basically, the amount of gold is the same but the alloy is different. White gold was originally developed as a substitute for platinum.Traditionally nickel was used in white gold. However, nickel is no longer used as the studies found that nickel can cause reactions with some people. Initially, white gold rings are electro-plated with another white metal called Rhodium, a metal very much similar to platinum, when they are new. This makes the white gold look whiter since the original color of white metal is slightly gray. This process is called rhodium plating. To keep a white gold ring looking new, it should be re-rhodium plated approximately each 12 to 18 months.White gold is a common type of metal used for engagement rings. It costs much less than real gold but it is very pretty. If you choose this type of met
