Spring has finally arrived in Tokyo and the parks are now very popular places to be. On Sunday while walking round Yoyogi park, the sounds of loud music caught my attention. Along the path from Shibuya gate there were plenty of bands playing some really great music.This group Majellyca were cranking out some heavy rock tracks.H.U.T. were playing their heart out just a few meters further up the path:This was my favourite band. That was the reaction I received during a presentation at my local user group meeting last week.  That group may not remember anything else I said, but that comment definitely got a reaction from the crowd.   So here's the story behind that statement... Older bands and older singers are more popular than the current ones. Why? I know why - recording artist like The Rolling Stones, The Police, Led Zeppelin, The Eagles have something our current entertainers don’t: musical talent.With the music industry's current ‘bring’m in, throw’m out’ mentality, what more could you expect? What the present music scene needs it exactly what these individuals provide: real good music. They give you creativity, musical ability, along with excitement - the very things the music industry is missing today. Christmas is soon here and so is the party. I mean so called “pre-Christmas” party. We have already had that party at my work but some companies are going to have it on this week. There is always some live music in our parties. Usually there are some deadly boring old fags playing 70’s pop and rock covers. There are few great German heavy metal bands, but two of them I rank as the most important of all time. They are Gamma Ray and Helloween, both founded by Kai Hansen, the legendary German vocalist-guitarist. In this two articles series I present those two bands and tell some latest news from the bands. Let us start with Helloween. If you have never heard of Helloween, you must have been living under a rock. Helloween is a German power metal band, founded in Hamburg in 1982. The band was founded by guitarist-vocalist Kai Hansen, and the band released their very first album, the legendary Helloween in 1985. On those days Hansen found out that he has troubles playing guitar and singing at the same time and therefore he quit singing. Yesterday I mentioned that Machine Head will play on Friday here in Helsinki together with Arch Enemy, Dragonforce and Trivium. For those who do not know, Machine Head is a heavy metal band formed in 1992 in Oklahoma, California. The band was founded by Robb Flynn who plays guitar in the band. They soon got lots of attention and the band toured with Napalm Death in 1994. Their video “Davidian” was banned in United States but they received a lot of attention in Europe and they toured with Slayer and Biohazard. Machine Head played in Dynamo festival in front of 130 000 people. Later on the band has played together with a number of big bands, such as Lamb of God, Trivium, Megadeth and Heaven and Hell. All of the GOOD bands I have seen in this area DO NOT consider themselves "Rockstars"and have 5 good shows to 1 bad one. Those that do will have 1 good show and 5 mediocre ones but say they were all GREAT! Just an observation.At first glance, I made the assumption that the writer was basing this observation on the Pareto principle. Could this be the case? If so, this could be more than "just" an observation by our writer. As I lived my youth in the 80’s, I have been privilidged to see the rise and fall of hair metal bands. Do you remember bands like Motley Crew, Poison, Kiss, Hanoi Rocks, LA Guns, Slaughter, New York Dolls, Van Halen and Cinderella? I won’t even mention Bon Jovi, it sucks too much.. Looking back nowadays all that seems so funny, especially the clothing and hairstyles. Especially the hairstyle of Poison, it was really awesome.
