Well - it's New Year's Eve. And as another year draws to a close, it never fails to surprise me just how many people genuinely dislike this time of year. They're glum. Disappointed with life. Wanting to tuck into bed by 11.45pm. Yet it should be a time for celebrating. We've survived another 365 days on this roller coaster of a journey we call life. Think about it. What did you do this year?
Sue and Matt had the perfect wedding at The Cescaphe' Ballroom yesterday. They hired us, the incredible Ryan Estes and the great band Don't Call Me Francis. But we're not the reason the wedding was perfect. What makes it perfect was all the great friends and family they had around them and their desire to enjoy their wedding day. When Sue saw that we started offering our brand of same day edit call

Jessica Simpson gave another shitass performance in her continuing effort to crossover to country which must be frustrating. I mean, she's proven she's illiterate and joined the Klan. What more do these people want?! Anyway, here's the highlights of her Wednesday night concert at the Avalon Ballroom where Jessica gave long-winded intros to every song forcing The Niagara Falls Review to comment "It

On Ballroom Dancing alone, Cherie Lunghi has a great chance of winning this years Strictly Come Dancing. After 2 very mediocre weeks, Cherie was back on form delivering the kind of performances we had previously come to expe

Why don’t you take me
Out on the ballroom floor
And dance with me
Holding my body close
As we whisk, twirl and spin
Give no regards to footing
Or making the proper moves
For on this night, there are
No technicalities or faults
Forget anyone else is around
Romance me out there
Because when we dance
I feel as if we are flying
Soaring gracefully as eagles
Love lifting us up high
When secure in

I think I've developed a newfound jealousy of Ali Youngblood - kid sister to Black Kid's frontman Reggie Youngblood. Not only does she get to sing with her cool older brother in what Rolling Stone has called one of the ten best new bands of 2008, but the girl, well actually, all of 'em, who don't play the drums or guitar, know how to get down.Tonight, Black Kids performed a sold-out show at the re
Have you ever started something and almost immediately think why have I done this? Tuning in to Ballroom Glitz was a little like this. It started with good intentions, I’ve watched that Aussie classic Strictly Ballroom, I’ve watched several series of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing, the station will be a radio version of these surely?Sadly no, as I enjoyed my other forays into this activity.

The crazy professor is a very familiar character: Professor Frink from the Simpsons; Dr Emmett Brown from Back to the Future; Jeff Goldblum in The Fly; Bunsen and Beaker from the Muppets. Scientists have always been portrayed as sightly out of tune with the rest of society. Sometimes this is unfair, but sometimes it is absolutely spot on.The latest affirmation of our nerdiness was the Dance Your PhD contest in Vienna, in which researchers try to convey their research results using the medium of modern dance. Performers were divided between three separate classes: students, postdocs and professors and the performances included a tango representing the amalgamation of galaxies and a tap dance describing post-translational regulation of mRNA.The classification seems oddly unnecessary. Grace Potter and her band The Nocturnals rocked NYC's Highline Ballroom last Friday. It was their first headlining show in over a month and it was obvious they were excited to be the main event. Much to the surprise of many shivering fans standing outside Friday was a sold out show. This lucky fan (after an unsuccessful attempt to sneak in the back door) was fortunate enough to be the proud purchaser of one of the last dozen or so tickets that was released. Whew! Thank god.Inside the crowd was jacked. Grace opened with "Sinking Man" then busted out "Here's to the Meantime" before letting her vocals soared through "Ah Mary." She was rockin' her Gibson Flying V guitar for a good portion of the night. Eventually she took her place behind her Hammond B3 organ to ride pulsating groove on "Treat Me Right." During this song the band lays in the pocket and Grace tells it how is. She's a great front woman. She's not afraid to be herself and can clearly hang with the guys. Although, to be h

By: Elmo Kandel After seeing ballroom dancing on television, you decide it's time for you to get up and strap on those dancing shoes. Or, maybe you are looking to get into shape but don't exactly want to pay for a gym membership that may never be used. No matter what your reason, deciding to learn ballroom dancing is an excellent decision. However, if you have never been the dancing type before, you may be a bit apprehensive and a bit confused as to where to start. Here are some helpful tips to learning ballroom dancing. First of all, it's possible that you're really shy and aren't ready to attend a class of other dancers. While personal instruction is best, it isn't your only option. Recently, ballroom dance has been brought into the spotlight thanks to media coverage. Ballroom dancing has grown by leaps and bounds in the past decade, and more and more people are catching on to the dance craze. This is important and certainly works in your favor because you can find several inst
By: Elmo Kandel Until recently, ballroom dancing was not considered to be a popular American pastime. In fact, most people thought of it as something best left to the older generations or the wealthy. Although ballroom dancing has existed for centuries in countries all around the globe, it wasn't until the media took an interest in it that it began to take off. Now, ballroom dancing has grown in popularity, encouraging more people to take an interest in the fine art of ballroom dancing. Currently, there are two television shoes that focus on ballroom dancing: "Dancing with the Stars", and "So You Think You Can Dance". Both of these shows cover various aspects of ballroom dancing and are reality-based. Basically, the contestants perform different dances every week, the viewers cast a vote for their favorite couple, and every week the couple with the least amount of votes is eliminated. "Dancing with the Stars" is aired on ABC twice annually. The contestants are celebrities hailing from
By: Elmo Kandel Ballroom dancing competitions have been broadcast on television for years. Men and women of many different ages and nationalities dance in costumes ranging from elegant to sexy to fun and amusing competing for titles in all categories of Standard and Latin American Ballroom. Television aired these strictly ballroom dance competitions where professional dance judges determined the outcome and the audience were merely onlookers. In the last couple years there has been a new twist added to the Ballroom competitions thanks to the "reality television." craze. Television shows like So You Think You Can Dance?, Ballroom Bootcamp and Dancing With the Stars have hit the airwaves with a tremendous reaction from viewers. Millions tune in each week to watch and root for their favorites. Ballroom Bootcamp airs on TLC (The Learning Channel) and is a wonderful series where three everyday ordinary people from all walks of life are paired up with three professional dancers and given five
The following is a press release from Mike Huckabee:would like to invite you to come see my band, Capitol Offense, and me perform at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa on October 26. I am particularly excited about this concert because not only do we get to play at the historic Surf Ballroom, but former lead guitarist from the rock band Boston, Barry Goudreau, will be joining us on stage. If you aren't familiar with the Surf Ballroom, it's the last place Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper played in 1959 before their plane crashed a few miles away. While we aren't as good as those three legends-with the exception of Barry Goudreau of course, we are good enough to play there (or at least we hope!).Our goal is to fill the Ballroom with a few hundred of my closest friends, so I hope you'll join us!The show is from 7-10 p.m. My family, members of the band and I will be mixing with the crowd throughout the night, and we look forward to seeing you. Here are some addtional deta
Its so beautiful and looks like it might be a lot of fun, not to mention good exercise you can do with your boyfriend or husband. You don’t have to be old and retired to enjoy Ballroom dancing. Miss Lionheart tagged me for this meme, “Five Things You Don’t Know About Me.”Â
I have had to rack my brain to come up with five unique things about myself because some of you have known me for quite awhile. So if I was to tell you that formerly I was a high school Biology teacher and volleyball coach, that I am the fourth of nine children, and that I love to read, be organized and eat yummy dessert, none of that would be new to you. So here are some more unusual things that you might not have known about me:
I took ballroom dance classes for 5 years when I was younger. I even won the Miss Elegance award one year
Baz Luhrmann dancing romp, which starts off like a documentary about an Australian ballroom dancing contest and turns into a delightful feelgood comedy. The Antipodean Dirty Dancing, without the ponce and certainly without taking itself too seriously.Luhrmann makes it visually arresting with his fast cross-cutting and set-piece lighting. The script is sharp and magnetic, with a predictable but nevertheless satisfying arc.Paul Merurio plays Scott Hastings, a young dancer with high expectations, but who suffers from the same anti-establishment scorn which his father received for inventing his own steps. He loses his partner but gains another in the frumpy but sleeping beauty of the Spanish-blooded Fran (Tara Morice), whom he first dismisses as a beginner, but then grows to love. Together they take their daring routine to the big championships, but the dancesport big-wigs don't intend to make it easy for them.Nugget: a great bit of fun and well worth listening to the advice (which you'v
