      Causes of bad breath
It is amazing the high proportion of adults and even children who suffer from bad breath, otherwise known as halitosis. I often encounter people who appear to have perfectly good teeth but at close quarters they reek of bad breath. It is particularly disturbing when it is a child with bad breath because as you know children interact with adults they know at very close quarters in their excitement and enthusiasm to put their points of view over. It would be totally insensitive and, possibly psychologically damaging to confront a child about their bad breath. So whether it be a child or an adult with the problem it needs to be addressed in the appropriate way so as not to cause offence or in the case of a child to damage their self-confidence even before they have had a chance in life. Gingivitis and Bad Breath
What is gingivitis and do you really care?  When you first have gingivitis, you probably don't care except that you may have more bad breath than usual.  Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums around your teeth.  It's generally caused by bacterial accumulations in the gaps between your gums and teeth and in the tartar buildup on your teeth.  Because of the growth and multiplication of these anaerobic bacteria, the ones that create bad breath sulfur compounds, your breath is going to get really bad unless you do something about it.  The first step is to maintain your own good daily dental hygiene with regular flossing and brushing with the latest in oxygenating dental products. Doorman in NYC has been Suspended for having Bad Breath
Jonah Seeman, who has been a doorman at a Manhattan building complex for over 40 years, has been suspended for having halitosis, a.k.a bad breath.  He was told by his employer on Friday not to come to work because of this problem. However, Seeman said that he doesn’t eat garlic anymore and that he uses mouthwash and breath mints to help while on the job.  Seeman, who is supporting his 81-year-old mother, was suspended in May and July for the same reason. Some of the residents at the Gracie Garden complex have come to his defense once they got word of what happened.  One man, Adam Reingold, said “His job, which he does well, is opening the door - not to be opening his mouth.” Officials for the company have not responded; however, a letter was found that was sent to Seeman saying, “We can no longer tolerate the fact that you have severe breath odor while on duty.”  A grievance case has been filed by the union that represents Seeman.

Magnolia Bark Takes Bite Out of Bad Breath
A pinch of magnolia bark can eliminate bad breath by killing odor-causing germs. Magnolia bark extract is a traditional Chinese medicine used to treat fever, headache and stress. It has proven effective against the germs that cause ulcers. It has low toxicity and few side effects. Bad breath usually occurs when bacteria in the mouth break down proteins, which produces odorous sulfur compounds. And many anti-bacterial agents cause side effects such as tooth staining, making them impractical for bad breath prevention. A recent study found that magnolia bark extract was highly effective against three types of oral microorganisms, killing 99.9 percent of bad breath bacteria within five minutes. The extract also helped kill a group of bacteria that causes tooth decay.Sources:Reuters November 14, 2007

Bad Breath And Acid Reflux Often Share Cause
It is not unusual for a person to suffer both bad breath and acid reflux as the stomach acid backing up into the esophagus often carries with it the odor of the stomach acids that have their way into the esophagus or all the way up into the throat. It has often been said that bad breath is better than no breath at all, but your friends may not agree. Most experts agree that a person's breath is affected by what they eat so it only stands to reason that some of the same foods may be causing bad breath and acid reflux and a change of diet can help with both problems. When a person eats hot and spicy foods, the chemicals in the food that makes it spicy will enter the blood stream. As the blood passes through the lungs and is exchanged for oxygenated air, the person's breath will reflect the odor leaving the blood stream. Chronic and persistent indigestion can cause more damage than bad breath and acid reflux as the hydrochloric acid in the stomach is the same type of acid that
