This week has been slightly surreal, in terms of the soap opera that is now known as Microhoo. Expectation last week was that after the April 26th deadline, Microsoft would either change the bid price or nominate a candidate slate to the Yahoo Board in preparation for a hostile taleover. But the week is almost gone, and nothing's happened yet, although a lot is happening behind the scenes. Photo
Only a couple of days ago we featured Parrot’s up and coming PARTY Black Edition Bluetooth Speaker which we cited as coming with integrated NFC connectivity but now it transpires the device will NOT feature NFC, regardless of Parrot releasing a press release stating the contrary.
from ComputerWorld UK 25/9/2007Website: http://www.computerworlduk.comSymantec's early-warning system gave its enterprise customers a brief scare last Friday (21 September) when it erroneously sent an alert that said an Internet-crippling attack was in progress. The message, which went out to users of Symantec's DeepSight advanced alert system around 8:40 pm US Eastern time, had a subject head that simply read: "DeepSight Increased ThreatCon from 1 to 4 Alert." ThreatCon uses a 1-4 scoring system, with 1 being the least alarming threat level and 4 the most dire, to indicate Symantec's take on the current state of Internet security. According to the company's own definition, Level 4 is regarded as a "Full alert" and is reserved for those times when "extreme global network incident activity is in progress." The definition goes on to say that "implementation of measures in this Threat Condition for more than a short period probably will create hardship and affect the normal opera
In what looks to be the first major flip flop of the 2008 campaign Rudy Giuliani has reversed his previously stated opinion on civil unions for gays. I would say this is an obvious ploy to appeal to the more conservative base of the Republican party. It could easily backfire on him though if the issue of civil unions were to become a topic du jour for the more centrist and socially liberal wing of the Republican Party. And it could be played as a John Kerry style flip flop by the Democrats themselves, without of course actually mentioning Kerrys name. On another note it is interesting to see how John McCain tries to come out against it without actually saying he is against it. ~RJH NY Sun Politics story link Giuliani's Startling Departureby Ryan SagerApril 27, 2007In a startling departure from his previously stated position on civil unions, Mayor Giuliani came out to The New York Sun yesterday evening in opposition to the civil union law just passed by the New Hampshire state Sena
A Cisco official said today that the company has not made up its mind yet about the future of its CTA software After promising to turn the client software for its CTA (Cisco Trust Agent) into an open-source application, Bob Gleichauf, CTO of Cisco's Security Technology Group, said that the company has not made up its mind yet about the future of the software. "Where I misspoke was speaking in terms of CTA going open source as if that's a given, and that was incorrect. That was my mistake," Gleichauf told InfoWorld last week. "It has been part of a discussion of a number of different options available to us, but it's not a viable option at this time," he said. A more circumspect Gleichauf said that in earlier comments he was just speculating that CTA might be turned into an open-source component. "Open source was one thing that's a way of dealing with various components as work toward an integrated solution," he noted He declined to discuss the pros and cons of going open source

Flashback to the end of last week and the furore of Walt Mossberg’s apparent “60 days to a 3G iPhone” statement; back then, we assumed Walt either had a badly-observed NDA or a particularly prescient moment, but now the godfather of consumer tech reviews is claiming he meant nothing by ...
