Why is a house’s sewer line backing up so frequently and what are my options?
I’m considering making an offer on a house, but there’s an issue with the main sewer line. I’ve been told by the realtor that the owners have been having to have the line snaked every two months because it keeps clogging and backing up. What could be causing this? If I do make an offer [...]

But it does have a dedicated community, and there are a number of options out there for backing up your database. The one which I’ve been using lately is the Backup/Migrate module."[via scribble design]

Backing Up Data DoBacking Up Your Data - Do's and Don't and How To's's and Don't and How To's
We all know we're supposed to back up data. Sometimes we might actually do so. Backing up your data is important, and yet it is often a neglected part of using computers. Data can be lost rather easily. Human error, a virus, or simply a computer crash can wipe out important documents, photos, contact lists and more. Backing up your data is important to everyone, not just businesses. Imagine all those photos you took of your children growing up, now sitting on your hard drive. What about your video and music collection? Perhaps you've heard about entire collections of documents lost from your friends' or coworkers' computers. The stories are haunting. All those years of searching and collecting of that data, and it can be wiped out in an instant. Could you ever replace all that information?

I yelled as I threw my cat out the door. Its not her fault. She can't resist a tall cool glass of water any more than I can. This one was my fault all the way. Backing up work with Time Machine
I have always been aware of the importance of backing up work but up until recently it was always one of those little jobs that I didn’t quite get round to doing often enough, my setup was a 160 GB Formac external hard drive attached to my old eMac. While I didn’t have any problems with the Formac drive it had a built in fan which made the drive ridiculously noisy, also despite it’s relatively small storage size of 160 GB the drive was physically big - it took up a footprint of just under an A4 piece of paper and was the height of 2 and a half dvd cases laid flat. Because of it’s design it couldn’t really be stood on it’s end which would have saved a lot of desk space. Having upgraded my iMac to OS X Leopard it made sense to use it’s built in backup application Time Machine, but to get the most out of it I realised I would need a bigger and better external hard drive. Even before this interview the claims of the Swift Boat Liars had been exposed as lies originating from political opponents. At the end of the week another source lacking credibility, Rush Limbaugh, claimed that they “were right on the money, and nobody has disproven anything they claimed in any of their ads, statements, written commentaries, or anything of the sort.” I’ve previously posted numerous articles disputing their claims. Media Matters reviewed some of the false claims following Limbaugh’s statement. Kerry spokesman David Wade issued the following response to Limbaugh: At first I thought, that’s not Rush, that’s just the OxyContin talking. Anyone having a blog hosted on blogspot should in my opinion back up the html code of their site. The reason for this is that most bloggers on blogspot do not have any actually copy of their blog on their PC and if something happens to the html code of their blog they would lose all of the customized changes they made, especially customized sidebar. It happens to the best that one might by accident modify the code in such a way that the blog will not be displayed correctly. Hopefully blogspot provides a way to restore your blog’s template, but at the cost of all of the changes you made to the blog. In my case this would include all of the links, scripts, widgets etc. Anyway, here is how you can backup your html code:Log in to your blog.Go to Template.Next go to Edit HTML.Select all of the code with ctr+a and copy with ctrl+c.Paste it to your favorite text editor with ctrl+v and save the file..If anything happens to the code of your blog simply replace it with your old one that you co

More on backing up Auto Complete URLs in IE
I got a an email from Ivan at www.cybexmag.com in response to this article.Hi Steve,Another useful Reg Key is the following:HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftFtpAccountsThis key holds all the FTP accounts used if you accessed an FTP via Internet Explorer.I decided to check it out, and sure enough...if you backup Auto-Complete as I described in the previous article:Those two FTP accounts you see in the screen shot *will* show up, but the username and password information will be missing. For example, if I visit my account, at IntelliAdmin...it is missing the username field. If I had told IE to save it, the password would have been missing too. After I included the key Ivan mentioned above, the account usernames and passwords were remembered. It is another item you can add to your toolbox when moving a user to a new machine.Check out our Windows Admin Tools

Some Former Clinton Aides Backing Obama over Hillary
Last week I noted how many of the new Democratic voters brought into the party by Bill Clinton are supporting Barack Obama as opposed to Hillary Clinton. Today The Boston Globe reports that many ex-Clinton aides are supporting Obama despite the Clinton history of bypassing those who backed opponents for government positions. In interviews this week, half a dozen Obama supporters with Clinton roots said they see the 46-year-old, first-term Illinois senator as the face of the future and the best hope for the party. While they don’t directly criticize Clinton, they said that another Clinton presidency would not represent enough of a change in American politics or its image in the world. Some also said she is too divisive to beat the Republican nominee or to govern effectively. “One of the chief things that would energize a very dispirited Republican Party is Hillary Clinton on the ticket,” said Eric Holder, who was second-in-command at the Justice Department in the late

Dick Morris: WHY THE DEMOCRATS ARE BACKING HILLARY
So what Dick Morris is saying is 1) the Democrats don’t like Hillary but 2) they want anyone that is a change from the Republicans. Actually, it is not Republicans they want a change from, it is the Bush administration. And nobody understands that more than conservatives that feel as if we have been betrayed from both sides of the aisle. At least with the Democrats you know going in what sort of traitors and America haters they are. You do not expect to be stabbed in the back by the people you voted for. Which is what happened to us NON-neocons that voted for Bush. Hillary has sky high negatives and is as divisive as any candidate the Democrats have fielded in a couple of generations. Nevertheless, she is not Bush and that might just might make her electable. ~RJH Received via emailWHY THE DEMOCRATS ARE BACKING HILLARYBy DICK MORRISPublished on TheHill.com on October 10, 2007.The question looms over the Democratic primary: Why are rank-and-file Democrats so determined to nominate Hill

      Liberals Backing Illegals
With Democrats leading the charge to protect and rescue over 50 illegal immigrants from Mexico that are currently awaiting execution in Texas, Liberal activist Hillary Edwards addressed the media during a Q&A.When finally questioned as to the difference between defending the lives of illegals and defending the lives of the unborn, Hillary retreated to staunch liberal footing."You ask about the role of innocence, but how can an unborn fetus be consideredinnocent when IT is intentionally living off the innocent mother's body??There's a big difference between aborting hardly innocent unborn fetuses and the execution of illegal immigrants convicted of rape and murder in U.S. courts - especially when the illegal immigrants are innocently living off our citizens but don't get their rights to talk to their home country. That CANNOT stand!!"Such is the sanity of the Left...

Pentagon Alleges Oil Ocean Zone is Backing Iraqi Insurgents
The drums of war are beating a little louder in the Middle East today after the Pentagon released intelligence they gathered from a recent raid on insurgents in Baghdad that allegedly contained “airtight proof” that Oil Ocean Zone has been providing financing, training, and weapons for insurgent groups for at least the past year. The announcement couldn’t have come at a worse time. Relations between the United States and oil ocean zone were already at a historical low. A recent visit by Oil Ocean Zone president Dr. Ivo Robotnik merely fanned the flames of public opinion against the small Middle Eastern zone, with the dictator making remarks such as “There are no non-robotic living animals in Oil Ocean Zone,” and the president of Columbia University calling Robotnik a two-bit mad scientist with designs on taking over the world with his robotic minions.

Is the USD Backing Out Again?
Yesterday the Unemployment Claims data was published in the US. The Labor Department reported that new claims for unemployment benefits dropped to 322K. Fewer people signed up for jobless benefits last week. This data signals a positive sign in the US market, taking in consideration the last major difficulties in the US market; housing, tighter credit, and turmoil on Wall Street in recent weeks, which caused a big wave of layoffs. National employment remained fairly study despite job losses related to the deep housing slump, which has persisted for more than a year. Iran is not backing down...
SaturdayJune 30th, 2007 Today, Iran dismissed the threat of new UN sanctions for punishment over it’s controversial nuclear program. Supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said "The Iranian nation will pursue its right and the disturbances will have no effect," he went to say "Iran's foreign policy has always been offensive. Unfortunately at certain times there was a defensive policy, which was a mistake,” The UN Security Council has already imposed two sets of sanctions against Iran after it failed to suspend uranium enrichment, the process that can be used to make an atomic bomb. The United States and it’s allies, suspects that Iran's nuclear program is a cover for a push to develop the bomb but Iran continues to say that it is for civilian purposes only. Amidst threats of further sanctions and possible military action, Ahmadinejad brushed off the threats saying: "They cannot hurt us, not that they don't want to but because they are incapable of doing so as they are in a di

      Backing Up Windows XP Registry
Backing Up Windows XP RegistryRegistry Editor is a tool for viewing and changing settings in your system registry, which contains information about how your computer runs. Almost the entire settings are stored in the registry.Although Registry Editor enables you to inspect and modify the registry, it's advisable to use Registry Editor only if the GUI does not provide the option you're looking for. Making incorrect changes in the registry can break your system. It's highly advisable to backup the registry before editing any portion of it.One way to backup the registry is to create a System Restore snapshot. System Restore returns your computer to a previous snapshot without losing recent personal information, such as documents, history lists, favorites, or e-mail. It monitors the computer and many applications for changes and creates restore points. You restore these snapshots when your configuration isn't working. This method is unreliable in case you want to rollback the registry

Save Your Life By Backing Up
This is Dr. Mercola, with a very interesting story to share with you today. It's about a friend of mine who is in the internet business. He recently told me how a programmer he hired about ten years ago was trying to do a good job for him and was running out of space on the hard drive at the time. Since he had some customer files that were no longer active, he thought that in order to save space, he could delete all those records. Well, it was a while before my friend found out about it. It turned out that the records never should have been deleted. Ten years later, my friend estimates that by deleting those files, he lost over $20 million, which is a pretty significant hit. Fortunately, my friend recovered from the loss, and is doing quite well. But he learned his lesson; he learned to always back up his files. This incident is not quite as bad as the one that happened with a technician in Alaska who recently deleted files which were estimated to cost over $38 billion. If you'r

      The importance of backing up!
What happens when you don’t back up your blog? I learned a valuable lesson not so long ago, for those of you who are regular visitors to my blog you may of noticed it’s changed a lot (for the better i think) and has a lot less posts! this was not planned but i did something very silly. I have had this blog now for nearly a year and never thought to back it up as it’s on the net like, well guess what… I made some changes to my main domain vwd-e-lotto, forgetting that my blog was in the directory, i told Dreamweaver to publish the whole site, even asked me if i was sure so i said yes! later that evening i come to do some admin stuff on here and low and behold I’m welcomed with “it doesn’t appear you have wordpress installed yet” please install it now… Have a confused look on my face at this time wondering what has happened and why, then it came to me, I over wrote it myself (feels like a fool)… didn’t have anythin

Is Oprah backing Durie's new Gardening Show?
It seems that glam garden boy, Aussie's own Jamie Durie, is in talks with media heavyweight Oprah. Not much is being given away as of yet but there is some room to hypothesize a little. One option may be that Oprah is keen to back a US made gardening show hosted by Durie. This wouldn't be the first such backing as precedent has already been established with Dr. Phil's own chat show that rates highly both in the US and overseas. If this is the case it will be interesting to see what format it might take on as Durie's passion is more in projects and landscaping than actual horticultural pursuits. The other option, and clearly more favoured by some sources, is a regular spot on Oprah's chat show. His debut last year has catapulted his name into the American arena and a continuance of this has been rumoured. One-off projects are certainly within Durie's expertise and may become a consistent feature on the show. From my perspective, I think either option is going to be good for Aus

The story of backing up multiple profiles of Mozilla Firefox teaches us a lot!!!
Mozilla Firefox is probably the only web browsing software application that allows the user of the web browser to create multiple profiles. As the very term suggests, multiple profiles enables the user to differentiate his or her web browsing preferences from the web browsing preferences of all other users. If there are five members in your family and if all five people use Mozilla Firefox to surf the Internet, you can create five different profiles that will have different names, different home pages, different bookmarks, different preferences and different extensions. As you can understand, this facility enables you to personalize your web browsing experience to the maximum extent possible. If you are a sports fanatic and surf the Internet to check out information on various sports and if your father surfs the internet to get the latest news, you can create different profiles so that your bookmarks will not interfere with your father’s web browsing experience. The general perc

      Piggy Backing - Yet Again!
I am often awed and inspired by the generosity of others. When faced with a difficult situation, often tense but most commonly simply awkward, how would I respond? And, like the store manager in her post, would I act quickly enough and on my own or make an attempt at contrition only after someone else has already “done the right thing” in my stead. In situations like these, you never really know how it all turns out in the ‘end’. The man in the restaurant was obviously battling his own demons and therefore chose to head off to destinations unknown. The results of the generosity of K will not be known – would this man find the peace of mind and opportunity to enjoy the meal or would his demons get the better of him and this kind gesture become the spoils of his personal war.I remember once, several years ago, when I was working as a florist I was faced with an opportunity and ended up falling short of the mark. The flower shop faced the back stairs of the Marriott Customs Hous

Tips for backing up your computer system and data files - Using the Windows Backup Utility
In a previous post, I wrote how you can backup your computer data to various media such as CDs, DVDs, external hard drives or online storage, but all of these methods require a good amount of effort on the part of the user having to go through many different folders and copying that to the backup media. And if this is done on a regular basis, you can end up spending hours just backing up your data!Luckily Windows has a built-in application that you can use to automatically schedule backups of your computer and it only requires you to choose the folders you want backed up ONE TIME. This makes backing up your data a lot less tedious and will make it much more likely to actually be done!So here are the steps to use Windows Backup Utility.1. Click on Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Backup.2. You will be prompted to go through the backup and restore wizard. This is useful for beginners, so we'll go ahead and stick with it instead of going to advanced mode. Go ahead

Tips for backing up your computer system and data files
Making sure you back up your data is one of those really important, but not so urgent type of things that we hear about in self-help books! Unfortunately, since many of us have tons of personal, work-related, and business data on our computers, it is EXTREMELY important to back up your data!! Here's a short guide that I'll update later which will help you get started if you're one of those people who has no idea on how to go about backing things up!First thing to understand is that you can essentially back up two types of items: either the operating system and its associated files OR your data which is usually separately stored on another drive or in your My Documents or Desktop. First we're going to talk about backing up your data because that's usually more important than the OS. We'll talk about the operating system in another post! However you back up your data, make sure it's not on the computer! As silly as that may sound, I have seen many people who have simply copied thei
