Posted at Autograph-Club.orgby Tove MyhrI am a Norwegian autograph collector and I have been collecting autographs for two periods. I started as a 13- year-old girl in 1963, and I collected between 1963 and 1970. From 1970 to 1993 I did not collect anything, but in 1993 I again started. By Ray RobinsonIn the Great Depression 1930s, I lived across the street from South Field, which was a breeding ground for Lou Gehrig’s home runs at Columbia University. In those days, many of the youngsters in the neighborhood collected autographs of ballplayers, some famous and some not so famous. Most of us did it for memory — and not for money. We hunted ballpark entrances and hotel lobbies

"Phenomenally popular in the '80s, Autograph were perhaps best known as the Russian band who appeared at Live-Aid. As it turns out, they were much better than the limp Journey-esque arena-rock anthems they churned out on that day. Their debut LP (really an EP, it's only 27 minutes long) is mostly instrumental and incorporates lots of bright, classically influenced themes.review by
Here are some tips for collecting autographs at the All-Star FanFest, or at any other event where signatures may be harder to come by.1. KNOW YOUR WRITING UTENSILS Use a ballpoint pen on baseballs. Authenticating forgeries, secretarial, rubber stamped signatures, machine signed signatures as genuine is commonplace. Worse are the monumental amount of genuine autographs that are deemed not genuine. This is not hearsay, these are facts. It is a request ballplayers get every time they put on the uniform. But when Margaret Lapham asks a player to sign her book it usually stops a guy in his tracks. Even one like Curtis Granderson."I'd be honored if you'd sign my book," she told the Detroit Tigers centerfielder at Tuesday's West Michigan Whitecaps game.Granderson grabbed a pen and added his name to the book."It's amazing that, one, she has it, two, she's met all these different people, and three, she allowed me to join in there as well. So I definitely appreciate that and I'm very honored to be in that autograph book," said Granderson."My grandpa and my dad started this book over 100 years ago," Lapham told 24 Hour News 8.It is loaded with Hall of Fame signatures, including "Cy Young, Roger Hornsby, Mickey Cochrane.""I know wh
Along with adoring fans and reporters, presidential candidates hitting the campaign trail this year face an additional demand on their attention: autograph hounds. The autograph hunters, many of whom who post their quarry on eBay, lurk on rope lines, arrive early at campaign events, and dash up to candidates as they make the rounds among voters. Autograph seekers also test the patience of the candidates' secret service guards, who reportedly get nervous at the site of someone reaching into a jacket to retrieve a pen.As the race drags on well into its second year and the candidates grow weary, it's gotten harder to score a John Hancock from, say, John McCain. "John McCain used to sign whatever you had. I once got eight things signed by him," eBay autograph dealer Christopher Purvis wrote in
The Dodgers, surrendering to the wishes of irate fans, announced today they have dropped a new rule and will allow all youngsters to seek autographs in Dodger Stadium in much the same way they have done for years. No comment yet from the rich kids, but now everyone in the stadium will be given the same opportunity to stand on the dirt strip at the end of the Dodgers dugout and be ignored by the players while trying to get an autograph. The Dodgers are still trying to keep the unwashed out of the field-level box seats, and in doing so have designated a taped-off area for autographs. On first glance, kids at the head of the line might have a better chance of getting an autograph than they did last year. The Dentist, the team's new PR guy, said a large number of fans provided "data," using the t
Check out this piece by Los Angeles Times columnist T.J. Simers. It could be a sign of things to come at other ballparks. The issue? A new rule denies fans access to the field box seat level before games to try and secure autographs at Dodger Stadium -- unless of course, they have one of those pricey tickets. Most teams allow fans down near the field up from when the gates open until a certain point before the game starts (typically 30 minutes or less). After all, being in that area is about the only way to get an autograph inside the ballpark (unless you have Scotty to beam you into the dugout or some seriously long arms out in the outfield).I understand the team's concern -- its highest-paying ticket holders have some distractions if they get to the game early -- but it's just how it's be
Imagine being asked to sign an autograph or pose for a photograph by every person passing on the street. Now imagine one memento seeker who won't take no for an answer. That seems to have happened to Sen. Barack Obama last week, when a man with a camera tried in vain to stop the presidential hopeful in Philadelphia. Al Wittnebert, an elder statesman of the autograph business, saw video of the exchange. "I think Obama needs to get over himself," he says. "When you're in the public eye, especially running for office, you're supposed to kiss babies, pose for pictures. ... Whether [the fan] is selling it on eBay is irrelevant."The man in question allegedly sought a picture from Obama several times that day. The senator's campaign says the man was a professional autograph reseller attempting to
German Autograph Club (AdA) establishes a homepage in English. The German Autograph Society (AdA) was founded in 1986. We were the first autograph organization in Continental Europe that organized meetings with collectors and dealers. We have designed an English version of our homepage effective April 1, 2008. Personally, I thought this was great. Funny listening to Matt talk about it over the radio? My first reaction was that Matt should have signed the shirt. I mean the guy did go to great efforts to get out there. Then I thought maybe NASCAR has instructions for drivers NOT do sign stuff in that kind of circumstance because it would only encourage others to do the same. Anyway, here is the story - The sports marketing folks will tell you NASCAR has become a Big Four sport in the country because easy access to drivers makes them seem like ordinary people. Very easy access, one fan proved on Sunday afternoon when he simply walked onto the track for an autograph. During a late-race, red-flag period, a man ran up to Matt Kenseth's #17 Ford, reached through the passenger window and asked the driver to sign his hat. "He just said, 'Will you sign this?'" Kenseth was heard saying to his crew over the driver radio. "I'm like, 'I'm a little busy

I didn't even attempt to do this. Sorry, there just way too many people and I don't have the patience to wait for umpteen minutes for a John Hancock. With the exception of a few Orioles, I have most of the current squad on a team ball. Besides if I want or need anyone, I can go and wait for the players before and after the game as they are leaving the stadium during the season. As you see by the images, there was a large crowd to get autographs for the boys in Black and Orange.I was not able to get any closer because there were just so many people there and the ushers were being real strict. However, I am just thankful I had a zoom lens (100-400mm) with a 2x converter, as that made life a whole lot easier.
Well folks, I know I don't often post on much other than the Browns, but this site I found warrants a post. Sports Memorabilia.com is a great place to go if you're looking for autographed balls, jerseys, pictures, or anything else!

Perhaps you've heard of the Mondesi's House/Mark Madden/Hines Ward Autograph Debate? It's here, it's on ESPN Radio 1250, it's on Wikipedia. Well, another chapter was just added. I'll provide a brief recap to how we arrived at this point: --On November 13, in my daily link roundup, I made a brief mention of an upcoming Hines Ward autograph signing at Ross Park Mall: "Hines Ward is signing autographs at Ross Park Mall on December 9. For just $175, he'll autograph your picture or mini helmet. Or you could get him at training camp, which he charges...nothing. My favorite line: "$199 Equipment or Numbers (COMES WITH FREE "SB XL MVP" INSCRIPTION!)". Free? What part of $199 is free?"--On November 15, I wrote a follow-up article based on the controversy stirred up when Mondesi reader and ESPN Radio host Mark Madden mentioned the Ward signing during his show. --On November 16, I followed up that article with a piece on how certain Steelers stories have been buried in the Pittsburgh medi
