Fakta #4 : Banyak virus yang dieksekusi otomatis akibat autorun Banyak banget virus yang langsung dieksekusi melalui fitur autorun ketika kita memasukkan flashdisk atau CD ke komputer. Kok bisa sih? Mekanismenya sederhana aja. Di flashdisk, ada sebuah file bernama autorun.inf, nah ketika kita memasukkan flashdisk, windows akan langsung mencari file ini, dan mengeksekusi file yang dimaksud. Misalnya saja dalam file autorun tersebut terdapat perintah mengeksekusi file msvb.vbs, yang ternyata adalah virus, maka bisa berabe tuh! Solusi : Matiin Autorun! Simpel! Ketika memasukkan UFD atau CD, tekan dan tahan tombol shift, kurang lebih 5-10 detik, maka autorun tidak berfungsi! Cara kedua, bisa juga melalui Group Policy Editor. AutoRun starts Windows programs automatically
Every recent version of Windows has features known as AutoPlay and AutoRun. These functions are designed to launch applications automatically from a external device containing the necessary AutoRun information. This is what causes an installer window to pop up when you insert a software disc into your CD or DVD drive, for example, or makes a pop-up menu icon appear in the taskbar tray when you insert a USB flash drive. (In some cases, the action doesn’t occur until you double-click the flash drive icon in Windows Explorer.)

Kebanyakan virus yang beredar akan membuat file Autorun.inf/Desktop.ini/Folder.htt di setiap Drive termasuk di Disket/Flash Disk dengan tujuan agar virus tersebut dapat aktif secara otomatis setiap kali user akses ke Drive tersebut.
Berikut tips yang dapat dilakukan agar skrip tersebut tidak akan dijalankan setiap kali user ke Drive tersebut yakni :
Klik [Start]
Klik tombol [Run]
Pada dialog box ‘Run’ ketik ‘GPEDIT.MSC’ kemudian tekan tombol ‘enter’.
Pada layar ‘Group Policy’ klik ‘Administrative Templates’ pada menu ‘User Configuration’
Kemudia klik ‘System’
Pada menu ‘system’ tersebut klik kanan ‘Turn off Autoplay’ kemudian pilih ‘Propertis’
Klik tabulasi ‘Setting’
Pilih option ‘Enable’
Pada menu ‘Turn off Autoplay on’ pilih ‘All Drives’
Klik tombol ‘Apply’
Klik tombol ‘OK’
Kemudian tutup layar ‘Group Policy’
