Hace ya cuestión de meses comentamos que el programa Autopatcher había sido descontinuado gracias a Microsoft. El proyecto era bastante interesante y nos ofrecía la posibilidad de descargar las actualizaciones automáticas sin conectarnos a los servicios de Microsoft y también recibiendo packs mensuales que nos hacían la vida más cómoda.
Al parecer el equipo de Autopatcher no se quedó quieto y ha empezado a ofrecer una beta de su nuevo programa llamado Autopatcher Updater. Estamos hablando de un proceso similar pero diferente, el programa listará las últimas actualizaciones del sistema operativo y Microsoft Office procediendo a la descarga desde Microsoft y luego desde Autopatcher.
Todavía todo es muy reciente y no hay mucha información pero al parecer el programa contacta con el dominio de autopatcher pidiendo un archivo en concreto y está información es utilizada para conectarse a los servidores de Microsoft y descargarse la actualización para ofrecérnosla a nosotros

Distribution of the program was stopped on 29 August 2007, after more than four years of existence, as a result of several Cease and Desist orders being given to the team, Neowin and some download mirrors. Microsoft sigue a la suya por el “bien” de la empresa. Esta vez ha colaborado con el cierre de Autopatcher, un programa que nos hacia la vida más fácil proviniendo los parches de Windows Update sin la necesidad de utilizar este servicio.
Ilegal? no que yo sepa, Microsoft lanza los parches por separados para que no tengamos la obligación de utilizar Windows Update. Lo que hacía Autopatcher era juntar todos los parches de los meses juntos y decirnos de donde descargarlo.
Autopatcher existía desde el 2003, apareciendo en revistas muy importantes americanas. Ya tenía una base plantada y una gran comunidad que ahora solo puede decepcionarse por la decisión de Microsoft, ¿el motivo? según ellos tenían miedo de que se pueda distribuir algún código malicioso junto al pack que ofrecía Autopatcher.
Bueno, tienen derecho no? a jodernos y a buscar alternativas.
