Week one continues at the oil rich city of Dallas, Texas. Although 29 was sent through to Hollywood, many of them did not shine in my opinion except for one Kady Malloy. It may be fitting too since she was the last to audition for the day cause she sure left a big impression on the judges and the viewing public too.Kady who hails from Houston not only has the looks but also a remarkable voice as well which will surely see her through the later stages of this year's competition. To start the ball rolling this season is the highly populated city of Philadelphia. The spirits was high and things looks bright for this franchise pushing through year seven with another bang. Sure enough the crowds came in droves but sadly only 24 received their golden ticket to Hollywood.First up is Kristy Lee Cook who hails from Oregon and her beautiful rendition of 'Amazing Grace' with a tinge of her soulful country voice. Cheat in towards my partner so I can easily look at them and the cue card with minimal effort. As my partner is talking, look at the cue card/camera part of the time, especially for my reactions. Issue of object placement. Most if not all ad copy has critical objects to create that are part of the environment and that the ad characters refer to them some way. Place ANY critical object at the cue card so I can refer to it while I'm reading the copy. Other notes: watch commercials esp. when people are eating something or interacting with some object. Study real people doing everyday things -- just pay close attention and note, my brain will store it away for future use. Listen to read everyday dialogue. Again, just pay close attention and note it. Read big scary technical-scientific terminology out loud; get used to easily/effortlessly saying these words. (Review) What to do when I get the copy at an audition: Read and understand the ad copy. Read it out loud. When I'm ready to audition, hit my mark. Tell the casting director I'm just going to practice the ad copy once, and then -- rehearse it. Work at breathing to the camera and going back and forth between the camera and the cue card or copy (i.e., the eyes tell the story). Class #1 (Jerry Coyle) How to handle 1-line copy, e.g., "I needs some tylenol:" General notes: What's my POV (point of view, my feelings or attitude towards the project -- Hint: keep it positive!) If the product is some sort of pain or discomfort reliever, show the pain, be as big as possible, but keep it real (e.g., if the copy is for tylenol, then I have a headache or a sore shoulder -- I don't have cancer, I'm not having a massive heart attack, I'm not terminal) -- and keep breathing! Steps: (Start) Show the pain and do something to relieve the pain. (Middle) Say the 1-line copy. (End) Stay in the pain, stay present. This summer it's being taught by two great highly experienced and successful commercial actors, Jerry Coyle and Batt Johnson. I have met several Chicagoans who have played in this orchestra, but it is an extremely long commute for a fairly modest per-service rate ($58.22/reh and $82.65/perf), so I would be sure to do the math on a position like this before accepting it. The ad states that "generous mileage, meal, and housing reimbursement allowances are also available," which sweetens the pot, but remember that such compensation is reimbursement and not profit, so at the end of the day the most a player would be going home with would be $58.22 for a rehearsal and $82.65 for a performance. Also, the Federal Mileage Rate for 2007 is 48.5 cents for mile, so be sure to compare any mileage reimbursement against this figure. If compensation does not match this figure, you're losing money on the commute and therefore not

I believe that they do have some mileage compensation, although I am not sure what the rate is or what mileage compensation cap is in place.
