A 67-year-old Japanese man is planning to compete in the Olympic Games in Peking next summer. Hiroshi Hoketsu, a horse rider who will turn 67 next month, is already a former competing athlete. With their third album, Athlete seem to be toning down the tweeness and outlandish cockernee-isms that were so endemic of their first two LPs. Joel Potts still sounds like he's recorded his vocals while watching test cricket, but there's now a sense of drama and urgency in their song-writing which has been lacking in their previous releases. Ambitious, competitive people who base self-worth on performance excellence and winning seem to be at higher risk of developing eating disorders. Eating disorders continue to be on the rise among athletes, especially those involved in sports that place great emphasis on to be thin and lean. Sports such as gymnastics, figure skating, dancing and synchronized swimming have a higher percentage of athletes with eating disorders, than sports such as basketball, skiing and volleyball.

E' uscito all'inizio di settembre in UK il nuovo album dei londinesi Athlete dal titolo "Beyond The Neighbourhood". Undici nuove canzoni che segnano un ulteriore passo avanti nel percorso musicale del gruppo. E' un lavoro molto interessante, più sperimentale e riflessivo, con un suono organico e ricercato. L'indie rock va a braccetto con l'elettronica sapientemente usata, ma strizza anche l'occhio al pop, senza esagerare. Il risultato è eccellente. Nella voce del cantante c'è insita una certa malinconia, anche quando la melodia al contorno o comunque il messaggio sono positivi. Ma questa non è affatto una nota negativa, anzi forse proprio in un contesto simile la voce di Joel Pott lavora ancora meglio. I love watching sports especially those Christian athletes. I used to idolize Kurt Warner in his era with the Rams. He always testified about his relationship with Jesus Christ. And the he made Jesus Is Lord in his life.You know the success of his story. He won a Superbowl, a two time MVP and quarterback the offense which was called “The Greatest Show on Turf”.
Wherever Kurt Warner is right now, I salute him for showing much credit and worship to the God of his life.

In keeping with the sports theme from yesterday, I decided to post this article from the LA Times because I think that it is important to send the message to GLBT teens that you can be both an athlete and an openly gay individual at the same time.

It was a different story on land.
The teenager with the powerful build and close-set eyes had to be careful. He hung back ever so slightly when teammates shot the breeze, talking about girls.
“You get tired of constantly watching what you say, constantly watching how you act,” he said. “You’re almost paranoid.”
