Cosmological Time Cycles in Indian Astronomy
Long before Copernicus, Galileo & Ptolemy, Aryabhata propounded the Heliocentric Theory of Gravitation, that all planets revolve around the Sun due to celestial gravity. The term given to Celestial Gravity was Guru-tva-Akarshana, which also has a philosophic meaning. Guru represents the Master, the Inner Sun, symbolic of the Self and [...]
Astronomy, ” the science of the Heavens “, was well developed by the Indians and noted scholar Eirik L Harris remarked that ” the Vedic culture was very rich in astronomical thinking.” The Winter Solstice was the base of all year-long sacrifices and the Vedic knowledge of both winter and summer solstices were accurate. Astrology and astronomy are historically one and the same discipline (Latin: astrologia), and were only gradually recognized as separate in western 17th century philosophy (the "Age of Reason").Since the 18th century they have come to be regarded as completely separate disciplines. Astronomy, the study of objects and phenomena beyond the Earth's atmosphere, is accepted as a science [1][2][3] and is a widely studied academic discipline. Astrology, which uses the apparent positions of celestial objects as the basis for psychology, prediction of future events, and other esoteric knowledge, is not widely regarded as science and is typically defined as a form of divination[4][5][6][7][8][9][10].
Al-Khawarizmi Astronomy Complex is one of the facilities that are provided by Melaka State Government in order to study and to explore the growth and the mystery of the universe. Melaka Mufti Department has been honored to realize the State Government’s ambition. There were three main buildings in the Complex, which are the Observatory, the Planetarium and the Training Centre. At this moment, the Observatory and the Planetarium has been fully functioning, whereby the Training Centre is expected to serve end of year 2007.In the expansion of Al-Khawarizmi Astronomy Complex, our community has the opportunity to study and appreciate astronomy deeper. Apart from that, today’s generation has the potency to bring the glory of astronomy back in today’s world. For More Information Please Contac
I keep meaning to get out and use the telescope but my problem is that in the summer we’re just too busy and in the winter it’s too darned cold which leaves me a brief observing slot in the spring usually although I really will have to change that soon as I’ve pencilled in a couple of university astronomy courses for myself.
What equipment is best is really difficult to judge these days. It’s a popular hobby so the range is vast and who knows where to start? If you’re just starting out binoculars are the way to go and reading up on binocular reviews is pretty much essential as you can get everything from dinky opera glasses type things right up to 25×100 monsters (way too big to be useable as a starting out pair).
The big downside of having so many reviews to skim through is that your shopping list will end up rather long!
Most astronomy-related astrobiological research falls into the category of extrasolar planet (exoplanet) detection, the hypothesis being that if life arose on Earth then it could also arise on other planets with similar characteristics. To that end, a number of instruments designed to detect 'Earth-like' exoplanets are under development, most notably NASA's Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) and ESA's Darwin programs.[27] Additionally, NASA plans to launch the Kepler mission in 2008, and the French Space Agency has already launched the COROT space mission.[28][29] There have also been several less ambitious ground-based efforts are also underway (see exoplanet). The goal of these missions is not only to detect Earth-sized planets but also to directly detect light from the planet so that it may

The infrared astronomy satellite AKARI started the regular observations in May 2006. In the last one year, AKARI has carried out the All-Sky Survey observations to map the entire sky, as well as thousands of pointed observations of selected targets. Here we show the beautiful images constructed from the AKARI All-Sky Survey data; The entire sky in the mid-infrared light, the far-infrared image of the constellation Orion and the Milky Way, and the far-infrared image of the Cygnus-X region. More About AKIRI
AKARI (Previously known as ASTRO-F or IRIS - InfraRed Imaging Surveyor) is the second space mission for infrared astronomy in Japan. AKARI has been developed by members of JAXA/ISAS and collaborators. IRAS (Infrared Astronomical Satellite, launched in 1983 by the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands) carried out the first all-sky survey at infrared wavelengths and made a huge impact on astronomy. Also reveals how Freemasonry is connected to Judaism, Christianity and the Bible. Lastly, it shows what the ancients knew about astronomy and how it became incorporated into the various religions of the world. Brown explores the world's legends, emblems and symbols and how they were all connected to ancient astronomical systems. Highly sought after, now back in print.Download : Click here to download
I’ve been looking at getting into astronomy for some time now but am struggling to justify the cost and I’m a little bit worried about the learning curve. It’s less of a hobby and more of a full time job! Just choosing the right equipment is a daunting task. I tend not to do things by halves and looking at the costs, I’d probably need to spend upwards of £2k/$4k to find a telescope which will meet my expectations. I’m also not too patient and buying binoculars probably isn’t going to be all that satisfying for me even though that’s the advice I’ve been given. Starting off small and progressing is just not me

There is a studentship available to carry out a PhD at the Kapteyn Institute, University of Groningen, to do observational research on black holes (BH). The goal of the PhD project is to obtain robust measurements of BH spins, both for stellar-mass BHs in our Galaxy, and super-massive BHs at the center of active galactic nuclei (AGN). The PhD student will be supervised by Mariano Mendez.

There's a new astronomy gadget up for people who loves to star gazing, just like my husband, he is into it. In fact, he's got a binocular for looking up in the sky at night. Only his is not like this new "astronomical binoculars" that can go to such great length as to actually being able to see the stars cleary and visible in the sky. So my husband will definitely look into it and see if he can get one that works with watching the stars or people claims to have seen "UFO". My husband is fascinated by those things as well, so he likes to keep an eye on the sky.

I’ve always had a bit of an interest in astronomy but I’m a bit of a warm weather astronomer hence my interest in solar eclipses which are the one astronomical event which is pretty much guaranteed to occur when the temperature is well above freezing.
However, one advantage of being in the south of France now is that the nights are generally warmer and we’re also outside the city lights so have a much clearer sky. In fact, the sky is so much clearer that the moonlight is noticeably brighter in comparison and when there’s a full moon, you could almost read with the light outside.
Anyway, that’s to introduce an occasional series that I hope to do on the sights that we see in the night sky over here which, hopefully, will be illustrated with some images though I’m still trying to work out how to take night sky photos with the digital camera so bear with me.
To begin with, here’s a nice photo of the crescent moon with the planet Venus taken in Feb
