In reaction to the recent events surrounding the heavy handed move by the Associated Press to impose guidelines (and ridiculous fees) on the exerpted copy in the blogosphere, a new website billing itself as the Unassociated Press is urging bloggers to create a multipartisan buzz and let AP hear all political bloggers loud [...]
The Internet firestorm over the Associated Press’s heavy-handed attempt to bully bloggers over fair use article excerpts has been absolutely schadenfreude-licious. Now, it’s time to turn the tables. If your blog or blog commenters have ever been quoted by the AP, listen up: It’s time to prepare a bill and demand payment.
First, a quick recap: [...]
Now, they've set a "toll booth" up for people to pay them for articles used and quoted. You know, I am all for copyright enforcement and respecting of other people's intellectual property and all that kind of stuff, but this is just downright stupid and will end up costing the AP readership in the end. I will continue the boycott of quoting or linking directly to AP articles until this stupidity s
NEW YORK (AP) — The Associated Press, following criticism from bloggers over an AP assertion of copyright, plans to meet this week with a bloggers’ group to help form guidelines under which AP news stories could be quoted online.
Jim Kennedy, the AP’s director of strategic planning, said Monday that he planned to meet Thursday with [...]

That was quick. On Saturday, The A.P. retreated. Jim Kennedy, vice president and strategy director of The A.P., said in an interview that the news organization had decided that its letter to the Drudge Retort was “heavy-handed” and that The A.P. was going to rethink its policies toward bloggers. The quick about-face came, he said, because a number of well-known bloggers started criticizing its p

In an exclusive statement, Neil Patrick Harris responds to the Associated Press article that suggested he would like Britney Spears banned from the set of his CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother. “It seems that yesterday a writer took some quotes of mine and speculated an opinion about their intent. I write to you [...]
For years, the right wing has complained about political correctness as the preserve of the left. The "debate" about political correctness often descends into nonsense, and I don't think the term itself is very useful. However, I find it interesting and revealing when the media uses euphemisms to make the Bush administration's conduct sound more benign than it actually is.
An example yesterday: the Associated Press refused to use precise words when describing recent news (not really "news" to most who have followed this) about high level Bush administration officials, including Vice President Cheney, approving the use of torture.
The AP story blandly reported that "Cheney, Others Ok'd Harsh Interrogations." A "harsh interrogation" sounds like someone on Law and Order using words
Scant Support for Senate Housing Bill
“The plan combines large tax breaks for homebuilders and a $7,000 tax credit for people who buy foreclosed properties, as well as $4 billion in grants for communities to buy and fix up abandoned homes.
The measure, titled the Foreclosure Prevention Act, will be significantly redrawn by House critics who say [...]
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has issued a call for action to email the Associated Press over their lack of coverage and mischarcterization of their anti-gay hate crimes media coverage."The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is encouraging community members to call upon The Associated Press to provide greater depth and context when covering incidents of bullying and violence directed at lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. The AP’s latest story on Lawrence King, a 15-year-old student from Oxnard, Calif., who died after he was shot by a classmate in what prosecutors have identified as a premeditated hate crime based on King’s perceived sexual orientation, unfairly assigns blame to King. The story suggests that the openly gay student’
Having the CDC in your backyard also helps, no doubt. Access the story here. For the families that have this condition under the roof, nothing really new in this story (I'd categorize it as 'educational')... but it might help as piece that explains its rise in the consciousness of America these days to friends or family members not so 'in the know'.
That said, you don't see much about how it may be related to less diagnoses of mental retardation. That's an interesting side note on the piece.
A rare instance took place today. The Associated Press got a story right; well, at least partially right. We recently reported how Media Matters, CNN, and MSNBC, intentionally misrepresented a story about Bill O'Reilly. They blatantly called him a racist when in fact he was making statements against racism.Considering that being called a racist is one of the worst names to be labeled, what the MSM did was beyond deplorable. If I were Bill, I would sue CNN, MSNBC, and Media Matters for defamation.Amazingly, the Associated Press reported this story accurately. David Bauder of the Associated Press explained the true context of Bill O'Reilly's statements. But, there was much more needed than simply explaining the context. Here subjectivity was appropriate. The title of the story should have been: "CNN fabricates false claims about Bill O'Reilly." Instead, the title was: "Bill O'Reilly Says he is being Smeared."The reason the title was misleading is because Bauder was writing a
In what is obviously a case of the media intentionally manufacturing an issue out of nothing they are trying to make hay out of a voter drive stunt by Tom Tancredo. He offered to personally conduct a tour of the capital for anyone that brought 25 or more people to the GOP straw poll in Iowa. There is a law on the books saying that public buildings can't be used by politicians for certain campaigning purposes. And the media was saying this violated that law. Oh Please. If they are serious about this why arent they going after Hillary Clinton who allowed herself to be videotaped committing felonies by asking for donations in her Senate office. THAT is a blatant case of committing a felony and yes you guessed it, the media gave her a pass on it. Heres the video of her committing a felony. And the left insists it is a conservative biased news media? My ass it is.~RJH Fox News article link Rep. Tancredo Offers D.C. Vacation for Votes in Iowa Straw Poll Tuesday , July 31, 2007WASHINGTON
Simple, no?
The AP recently published an article with the big headline, “Israeli troops fatally shoot Palestinian.” Any reader would automatically think that the evil Israeli army killed another civilian. So how does the article start and who is this unfortunate victim of Israeli brutality?
Israeli...
